I would like to transfer my X over to my son and it's already rooted and setup except that I want to erase my contacts and let him synch his, can anyone offer advice. I don't have enough time to RSD/re root, etc, just wanna delete a few apps and contacts and hand it to him. Thanks in advance.
Factory reset and let him sign in with his account. Your contacts are tied to your gmail account and the only way to remove the account is to factory reset

Generally I change my passwords annually, but I'm wondering how this would affect the sync on my phone. Does this automatically "update" on your phone; i.e. do I even need to change anything on my phone to keep the sync going (along with the paid apps).
I'm probably over-worried about it, but i would like to change my PW but would hate to have to wipe my phone to do it.
Has anyone changed their Gmail password since setting up an Android phone?
If you change your Gmail account password your phone will eventually popup with a sync error message. You'll then be prompted to enter your new password at this point to sync. So, a wipe is not required.

I have exactly the same issue. Amazingly, It looks like google didn't implemented a easy feature to this scenario.
For several forums I searched in, I only could find that if I wait an unspecific number of days, eventually!, it will pop up a window to insert a password! Completely unacceptable. I'm very frustrated with this.

How about just remove and re-add gmail in "accounts & sync".

You can't remove your primary google account.
But, if you change your password, within an hour it should popup asking for your new one. It's relatively easy; I've done it a half-dozen times.
If it's rooted then I think wipe cache or davlik resets account.

If you try to log back into the Android market, it asks you for the new password, and resets this across your phone.
I'm on HTC desire.
I had the same issue with the endless Captcha. There is a solution though.
Go to www .google .com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha on a PC or a web-browser and unlock the Captcha for your account. You will then be able to login again with username and password on your device.
Hope this helps

If you actually purchase an app from thre Android Market, is it yours forever, even if you change your phone to another Android phone or reformat the current phone back to factory default?
I presume it's registered to your googlemail account as you have to use the google checkout for the purchase?
Yes, you just have to download it again, but when you log in the market for the first time with your google account, it recognizes the apps you purchased and places them in the download tab as "purchased". Then you just install them again without paying the fee
even if we doing factory resert w/o back up?

Yes. After you reset one of the first things your phone will do is ask you for your Gmail account details. As long as you use the same account you bought them with.
Trust me!!!! I have done it

What happens if you upgrade your googlemail account to a gmail account?
I'm not sure it will still work if you log in with 2 different users. It needs to be the same user you logged in when you first purchased the app..

Is it actually an upgrade? Do you not get the same functionality with either addresses? If so then changing is not needed.

Ok, I know I've seen this discussed on here before but honestly I dont know what keywords to put in to find the thread. Basically, I setup a new gmail and need to know how to register phone with it. I added under accounts and sync and have it syncing. Doesnt the market need it as well? I just feel like adding and syncing was too easy. Also what is a good way to move over contacts to new gmail? I thought syncing from phone would work, but have not seen them show up yet, been about 6 hours.
you need to do a factory reset to change gmail accounts like that.
Ya thats what I was afraid of.

Not positive about this but what if he flashed gapps over again? I have in the past had to flash gapps with nightlys and had to reset up my Google account. I did use the same gmail I have always used but shouldn't it be possible to do the same thing and when it ask for your gmail address just put in the new one?
Then if that works and you get it up and running you should be able to open your OLD gmail account via a PC and send a vcard with all your contacts to your new gmail account. Once you try to open the vcard it should ask you what you want to do. Then pick open with gmail or something like that.
Again I may be wrong and you will need to factory reset but it wouldn't hurt to try it the way I just said before. If this does work you will probably have to add all your apps via the market unless you install them first via titanium backup.

I just factory reset, but was looking at the idea of clearing all data on all google apps. Also on a side note, the setup kept force closing on my phone, wtf. Got it up and running though.

so ???? will that save all my saved apps , whats the process to change my primary gmail to another gmail account ? ,
awnser was verry vauge .
you will have to root and back up all your apps with titanium backup, any app that requires an email address check(meaning it wont work without the email that purchased it) wont work but i dont think there are that many that do that..
then you will have to do a factory reset, set up your new email reroot and then restore apps....
What if you added a second Google account onto your phone with your new address and then just stopped synching the email, calendar, etc from the old one?
Sent from my Cappy
Any purchased apps are tied to your gmail account.
I don't know how to move that to a new account, or if it is even possible.
This is probably a question that needs to go to a broader audience than just captivate users, if not straight to Google's support forum.
ok thanks for the help all , i will try posting in a general section ! , apreciate it.
Hi
I have just purchased a Moto G 2, so far it is working well .
When I wanted to add a contact phone number I was asked to attach the number to an email account... Aaaggghh! Why cant I just add a contact to the phone without sharing it with google?
Is it possible to add a contact (phone number, name, etc etc) without associating it with anything other than the the phone? That is, simply load a contact to the sim and/or the address book without connecting it to an email account (or anything else).
Bob.
Ooops, I think this should be in the Moto G (2014) Help and Troubleshooting forum, I am not sure how to move it there.
Yup possible.
Just go to settings - apps-all apps and search for Google contacts sync and clear it data and disable it.
Try adding a contact then, but please remember you wouldn't be able to sync contacts with Google again. ,
