Replacing system MMS app - Moto X Q&A

Is there any way to replace the messaging app with the cm10 app?

I have root access but not an unlocked boot loader

Back up stock messaging app, copy CM10 messaging app to /system, rename and change permissions, copy and replace stock messaging app?

Have you looked at 8sms? It's a version of the CM10 sms app that's installable from the play store. Using that would save you the trouble of having to replace files...

What ROM are you using?

Try Titanium Backup. Your phone needs to be rooted for this to work.
Also, there are quite a few uninstaller apps on the App Market.

Had the same problem.
Your phone must be rooted and you can find that app in your /system/app directory and delete the .apk and the .odex file with the same filename.
Reboot
For me was this the solution.

Stock Music Player?

Hey guys,
After modding the hell out of my fascinate, I kinda miss the stock music player app, with its ability to be controlled on the lockscreen and via notification bar. Could anyone provide the zip or apk file for this app?
Thanks.

bumpity bump bump
Maybe download a rom or something, and extract just that apk. It is probably in SC.

Down load the deodexed ED01 rom that Adrynalyne posted in dev.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044406
Then extract the music player from the system/apps folder.
Then move it to the system/app folder on your phone using adb or root explorer.
Thanks!

I pushed the stock music apk to system apps with root explorer and it works after reboot, but had to move the other music apk out of system apps to sdcard first.

Using google music apk with cm7

How do you get the new google music apk to replace the stock app when using cm7? If on stock or even ns collab rom when you download the new music apk it replaces your old music app/widget and the new app becomes the system music app. On cm7 this doesn't happen and you cannot uninstall the stock system music apk. Any fixes?

Use Root Explorer to delete the old music.apk located in the System-->App folder.
Thank you sir! Worked perfectly. Even the widget changes after a reboot.

If you do not undestand, you read then. System apps are in root: system/app. Most probably your system is not deodexed, so with apk file comes one .odex file. You need to remove both before you change it with new version.

If it is on play store, just install it. No need to push in system.
It's because i dont like the default Samsung Apps and i'd like to replace them, to not waste space and whenever i do a factory reset, i'd want the apps to stay there.

Install apps, look for them in data/app. And cut it to system/app. You need root.

As I remember no. But app names are not like in system. It is something like com.something.app. And I am not sure if it will work if you just put it in system/app. Try and see if it works like that.

Thanks i'll do it. I'll come back if something goes wrong.

4.2 Messaging.APK

Anyone have this? I want to use the stock rom, but have a 4.2 messaging app with the emojis and whatnot. I cant find a 4.2 Messaging app anywhere though, in roms or anything.
It might break mms though...look for mms.apk in cooked ROMs...backup and delete messaging.apk, then replace it with mms.apk.
Should I rename MMS?

I have found the app I wanted from Packman ROM. I replaced it and it crashes. By default its named Messaging.apk. would replacing it and wiping caches work possibly?
