Gentlemen,
I am looking for a method to root my phone. I don't care about tripping the Knox counters. The CF-autoroot method doesn't list the 900A and the "root de la vega" method seems unreliable for 900A. Has anyone rooted recently (MJ5) and if so what method did you choose?
-Thanks

Kingo Root works fine on MJ5, just Google it. The hype about it's questionable activity is just that, hype. Many have used it with no issues and even if the do send your IEMI over seas there is nothing that can be done with it. Also such actions would land them in court now since their own user agreement states they send no data from your PC or phone.
I did the same as you I was real hesitate about rooting this phone. But I finally rooted using kingo, so freaking easy and have had zero issues

Root De La Vega is the way to go. Quick and painless… I'm on N900A but on MI9.
so you guys tripped the knox without issues?
my only concern is that i'm on AT&T's silly Next program and worried what they'll do when I trade it in at the end of 12 months.

You can try Kingo but for me it doesnt work because of Knox blocking it.
I followed all instructions and still get the error "prevention notification" "an app is force closed because of an unauthorized attempt to access system" comes up every time I try to (unsuccessfully) use kingo to root.
Kingo itself fails with "Root FAILED ScriptError"
at&t note 3 SM-N900A
My baseband is N900AUCUB MJ5
kernel 3.4.0-1625098
developer settings:
- usb debugging ON
- verify apps via usb OFF
security settings:
- unknown sources ON
- verify apps OFF
Any ideas appreciated.......... I personally DO NOT want to flip the knox trigger, and haven't yet (I did try activeroot too), but I cannot seem to root it no matter what I try. I want to root so I can freeze knox but it seems knox is preventing me from rooting it.
I definitely dont want to try flashing anything..

If you use Kingo trading is no issue. Just go into Super User and tap UNROOT and your device will be returned to stock.
As for the error you are getting with Prevention Notification, it is caused by Outlook Security which is installed stock on the AT&T phones. Disable it as it also gives warnings about stock apps which means it is useless. Once you disable it, set your screen timeout for ten minutes so you can see and answer yes/ok for the two questions that will come up on your phone. I used Kingo on MJ5 and had no problems doing it. A rootcheck confirmed I am rooted.

Hi,
TL;DR - kingo http://www.kingoapp.com/ is now safe and OK to use. Even works on new updated firmware At&t pushed out. Lot of people now trust this method and It is one of the only ways to root right now. This method is so much faster and works perfectly. Confirmed and working great on AT&T Note 3.

I DONT SUPPORT NOR DO I USE THIS ANYMORE.

If I'm not supposed to post stuff like this sorry. But here y'all go...>>
One click Root keep KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0x0 without losing data for android 4.3 jelly bean and other version of android OS.
This is the easiest method to root Samsung galaxy S4 and Samsung galaxy Note3
without voiding KNOX warranty, Just one click and you are done
PLEASE, don't ask if your device is supported or not, Just try it !
Steps :
1- Download and install Samsung Kies or Samsung Mobile driver
2- Download and install "VROOT"
3- On your device go to Settings/More/About device/
4- Tap 5 times on "build number" to enable "Developer option"

6- Connect your device to PC by USB cable and wait until "VRoot" display the model of your device
7- Click the green Button and wait few seconds
8- After it reboot, you can unplug USB cable
Enjoy ROOT
Notes :
- This method of root won't delete any data but backup your important data just in case of the process corrupt your data
- System status of your device will be changed to custom
- After Rooting you will not be able to update your device via OTA
- Use it at your own risk, I'm not responsible if something goes wrong
- "VROOT" support more than 3500 several android devices (Samsung, HTC, Sony, Motorola, ...)
- This won't reset KNOX if you already void KNOX warranty.
This works for At&t for sure. This is what I'm using and it's sick. Nice clean up options integrated. Love this. Just needs the English update which is coming soon.
Just so y'all know. This works on our At&t Note 3's. I just did this method and it took maybe 2 mins. Everything is fine and now I can do what I want.

yeah your right it does work however now there is chinese notifications everytime something tries to gain root and the first samsung screen is changed to display custom with a lock on it. I recommend that people still use DG's method. I dont know if I totally trust this. I may have to reload to get this off mine.

Your still going to be custom status. This just faster and the Knox stuff is not tripped. Vroot or Kingo Root. As far as the Chinese stuff, I have root and this superuser is fine. I will change later to maybe supersu. I have froze all the bloat running my battery down and I'm loving root. It has begun
Ps. Have you ever used viper4android? It also has this look but works great if not one of the best.
Changing to supersu at the moment isn't allowed. I cannot install the binaries for it.

We should be able to change soon. Right now it doesn't matter to me. This works fine. More ways and work arounds will be out soon, look how fast this and Kingo added in the mix. (I didn't try Kingo) this one was so fast and does the job period.
Day two. Battery life is even better today. I let the phone die down to 4% using it yesterday all day. Then charged it all night till this morning when I got up. I have used it all morning and still have 98% battery left. I went ahead and installed Greenify *ROOT: Renew my Phone >> Get it here its great >>>> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify&hl=en

Anybody want to do this too?
I did it....Here is what I did.
Uninstalled Superuser (Vroot Superuser used) using Titanium Back Up
Rebooted phone
Used Kingo Root
It asked if I wanted to uninstall root > Hit YES
Then reboot phone and Kingo.
Run Kingo and let the Root Begin !!!
It works and I have SuperSU now.....ENGLISH....
Installed Xposed and Wanam and removed custom status with Official.
It also removed the Lock (Custom Icon) on boot screen.
Kingo is the way to go guys.

really weird why XDA is blocking VROOT and KINGO, just because VROOT is Chinese language ?
I read chinese and basically i see nothing wrong with those root software at all.
and most important is knox counter does not trip at all.

Does anyone know if I was to run Kingo again would it restore root and not brick my phone?

Where is the explaination of what is wrong with kingo/vroot that's getting links to them removed from all threads? I'm really confused, because everyone seems to be using kingo or vroot, and saying it's fine and they have no problems - but here we're being told (without any reference or link to more information or evidence) that these are malware.

It's because of the info Kingo retrieves from Rooting your device. IMEI Number, Serial Number and Etc.....They dont need our IMEI number to root and thats really why XDA was like "HOLD UP"....Plus its not open source. I was using Kingo root on my last phone (Rejected Phone) but not on my replacement YET. I really want to wait for a trusted XDA method now. Not saying that Kingo or Vroot are malware, (Kingo doesn't get your IMEI anymore I was told) Kingo updated and there is ver 2.0 coming soon. I went to their Facebook and felt they were honest and concerned about the issues XDA was having. Its up to y'all if you want to do this.

My phone do nothing the root fail and the phone go back to normal with no root !
I got a new AT&T Note 3 and applied the Root De La Vega. Everything was working great until I accidentally installed AT&T's OTA update from the "Software update" menu. Now my Note 3 has Baseband version BMJ5 and the root has been invalidated. I know that the Kingo tool can bring root back, but it won't worth the potential security risk.
So I guess I have to wait for the next root tool being released?
And anyone has a rough idea on when that could happen?

The security risk with Kingo is just Hype because nobody can explain how they get paid for the app. I used Kingo and it works fine and my personal information is still safe. As long as you don't have financial date STORED on your phone which would be careless in today's skimming world there is no real information they can get that Facebook or other social media does not already have...

Hi,
AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has received its first root from DesignGears and Chainfire, but it will come with a cost as you will be forced to wipe all data in the process. Also, after applying the ‘Root de la Vega’ method you will also need to stay on the same firmware, any stock OTA Updates applied will remove root and you might not be able to apply root ever again for your Note 3

Kingo Root is like one click and you are done. It's that easy.
Once you root your phone using Kingoroot...You can install Safestrap recovery. Which will allow to flash custom rom located in here. But you can't flash kernels using Safetrap since our Bootloader is locked.
Google "TWRP recovery FAQ" (Safestrap is based off TWRP) or something along those lines and it will give you an idea of what you can do with custom recovery.
P.S. You got lot to learn young grasshopper. Start Googling. Trust me, I didn't knew jack about Android until I got my N3, about 2 months back.
Hey guys
I have been trying to root my AT&T note 3 mj5 with kingo but have had no luck. Every time I connect my phone, it says it's an s2 instead of a note 3. I have tried with kies 3 installed and uninstalled, I have deleted every samsung driver from my PC and reinstalled the note 3 drivers. I have installed and uninstalled the drivers from kingos website and from Kies. I am having no luck at all. I have restarted my phone and PC probably 25 times in the process. Every time I try, I also get the pop up on my phone saying something is trying to access my device. It's the little shield icon...not sure if it's Knox or not.
Can anyone help me out?
Edit: after looking here more, I realized I still had lookout running...so that's part of it. So now I have to figure out why it still says s2 in kingo.
If kingo don't work go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48243768 and download rldv.zip
Extract rldv.zip to the root of your internal sdcard Reboot, then once SuperSu installs, Reboot again.
For those who do not have access to a computer I achieved root on Kit Kat without a PC by following these steps :
All needed items will be linked below.
Root device using kingroot (will not trip Knox) if you are only wanting root for basic root apps (greenify etc.) then this is all you need to do. Have fun! (Just remember anything that changes the /system partition significantly such as xposed will trip Knox.)
To install superSU instead of kingroot/kinguser (will trip Knox)
Install flashify from the play store
Use flashify to install twrp (this step trips Knox)
Download SuperSU zip
Remove kingroot and the included kinguser app (follow instructions from kingroot thread)
Reboot into recovery and install SuperSU zip
OR :
After installing twrp just download a ROM (and if needed gapps) of your choice and flash.

You've just negated the whole point of using kingroot, not tripping Knox.
You could have simply rooted using twrp or cfauto root without kingroot at all. I know it saves connecting to a PC, but that is trivial.
Kinguser supersu app is fully English and has no problems as a supersu replacement. I used it for months.

I agree but then you stated about flashing supersu and twrp which would trip Knox and sort of made the first part of your informative post pointless, that's all.
Also flashing roms will also trip Knox, so again negates the point of rooting with kingroot.

I see your point - will modify the op to reflect different goals of rooting - my use of kingroot was to obtain root knowing I was going to trip Knox to install a custom rom as I do not have a PC to run Odin.
Kingroot does not work on lollipop. Don't want to trip Knox. Is there any other way to root? Not flashing any rom BTW.

I had never heard of that tool. Did it work well on KK ? Looks like there are newer versions that could work with Lollipop. My only concern is that it is all in Chinese and I don't know how reliable it is
I saw in another thread that someone had success using KIng Root on the AT&T variant. I have tried several times and on several different days, but as of yet King Root will not work for me on the SM-T807V. This is the Verizon variant. Some folks have speculated that King Root might work on Lollipop if you have the Exynos chip and not the Snapdragon. Unfortunately, or fortunately, for me, I have the Verizon with the different chip. I believe I also read that Sprint variants also have Snapdragons.

I'm not sure whether the failure for it to work is the exploit itself or user error.
It has worked both on my exynos tab s t805 and my snapdragon m8.
Both running kitkat.
Earlier versions have worked on other devices I own.
I can't see what would be different exploit wise with the Verizon device.
It took me a few goes for the exploit to work and most importantly the device will reboot at least once and then continue the exploit, so must not be touched after the reboot.
My advice here is to set the screen timeout to at least 10 mins, so it can be monitored after it reboots.
Also it needs to be kingroot v4. Another point is that if the app root fails then it's worth trying the desktop version as, from past experience, this has worked when the app hasn't.
Yes but in my opinion the app is interesting because it makes it possible to keep the Knox counter at 0×0. Using the desktop version installs another recovery and triggers Knox. But it looks like the team is working hard to make it functional for devices on lollipop. I hope we will see progress for the tab s
I have tried both the desktop and the mobile version and both met with the same results -no root. The common thought now seems to be, from my readings, is that Verizon has a locked bootloader which might be more of the issue versus the difference in the chip. Oh well, I will just have to be patient with Tab S and just enjoy my rooted S6 Edge.

The bootloader is irrelevant as the exploit doesn't involve the bootloader. Not only that it works on the bootloader locked att model.
Keep root after update ??
hello just wondering if after king root gains root would I be able to update from Samsung update in settings ? And if It does let us update from setting will it remove or patch over the root exploit..! Thanks...

As far as Knox is not tripped, I believe you should but you will lose root in the process.

Kingroot does not work on lollipop. Don't want to trip Knox. Is there any other way to root? Not flashing any rom BTW.

I have not read any posts from anyone that has been able to root a VERIZON (caps used for emphasis ) Tab S (SM-T807V) with King Root or Kingo.

Op updated with more info regarding different steps if you just want root or want to go further and install xposed or custom Roms.
Sorry for taking so long to update - real life got in the way.
Has anyone found a method to replace kingroot with supersu without tripping Knox? I have tried the same steps that worked on my s6 on here and that didn't work. Worked only right after completing the process but when I reboot I lost root.
Other than Titanium Backup, I don't have any apps that regularly require root. On the other hand, I find an increasing number of apps that refuse to run on a rooted phone.
I'm running SM-910T stock 5.1.1, with systemless root now.
I would be happy to run unrooted for 99% of the time if I could easily get to root to perform a backup, and on occasion for certain file maintenance tasks.
Is there any way to get temporary root (directly without Odin or flashing from recovery), perform rooted tasks, and then reboot back to an unrooted state?
I've searched here and it appears most mentions of temporary root are device specific work-arounds for phones with locked bootloaders. Is there a general approach that would apply to the Note4?

If you are on 5.1.1 KingRoot app or( kingoroot pc version)will root temporary but once your reboot you will lose root.you have to reroot again on every reboot.
But i am not sure this will keep your device status official.

When KingRoot and kingoroot came out a few years ago, I recall reading that they were possibly security or privacy risks themselves. Have they been around long enough to clear their reputation, and now the community is confident they do not have hidden malware or undesirable functionality?
Also, I'm not concerned about "official" status, such as warranty bit and Knox - I am primarily wanting to support apps that refuse to run if they detect root.

Yes I am confused. First how many of these are there? KingRoot, KingoRoot, kingoroot pc version. Are all three different? Which are APKs, and which are PC software?
It looks like https://kingroot.net/ is both APK and Windows, and goes by the name KingRoot.
Also https://www.kingoapp.com/ calls itself KingoRoot, and also offers APK and Windows software.
Most important, which are reputable/trustworthy?

Once upon a time there was kingoroot, it got a bad reputation for malware... Then came kingroot which I haven't heard anything bad about... I have personally used it its a little annoying because the UI is in Chinese but pretty easy to figure out the buttons... I'm not sure about the the site kingo app but kingroots site is
https://kingroot.net which is what you're looking for... Download to a pc, plug in, run. Disclaimer: i never used it on this phone i can just tell you there's no malware on it... I do not in any way guarantee you the safety of your device with any root method... Rooting is always at your own risk no matter how you do it.

I think this is where the confusion started Kingroots pc app is called KingRoot-Pc NOT kingoroot PC they are 2 different Apps..
Kingroot here https://kingroot.net/ both APK and PC version called KingRoot
And Kingoroot is here https://www.kingoapp.com/ once again offering both an android and PC version
While often confused they are NOT the same or even the same team despite what some forums claim you can look at both websites about section
https://www.kingoapp.com/about.htm
https://kingroot.net/about/
They are in fact 2 septate teams with similar names. Now Kingoroot once had a bad reputation for malware, I think that they have since then got better but I haven't used them in quite some time...Kingroot on the other hand has always been safe at least from malware.
