This doesn't seem much different than running stock and removing bloat.

Not sure what you're after? Removing bloat takes 5 minutes, and everybody has different tastes, so better the user play with gravity box and change what they like and don't like.
What is a custom Rom going to do other than that?

if you have a dev edition or unlocked device i would just flash eclipse rom 2.2. it in the development section. it is basically a stock rom with a few add ons that are essential, bloat removed, and all functionality of the moto x you love is still intact.

Update
What are people running these days who are looking for a stock based ROM with goodies. I know there have been updates since I last checked in

Flash them and find out!

Stock with Xposed. Bloat is such a non-issue.
Oh noes! These preinstalled apps are taking up a few MBs. Whatever will I do?

Haha. I actually couldnt agree more.

Another vote for stock+xposed. It's damn near perfect.

Kinda, yes.
Custom ROMs, Pretty much....I'm trying to figure the nitty gritty out but basically, If I understand correctly, this will give us the ability to load custom ROMs once all is cleaned up.
Root has already been achieved a bit ago. So you can root your phone now!!

Risks with rooting? Next to zero, unless you go messing around in system stuff you should not be fooling with. Do a Google search for Geohot's Activeroot. Once you do, you can install Flash Gordon and flash @thatbigmoose's BloatKiller .zip to remove much of the junk.

So Should I Get the Moto X?

I'm contemplating getting a Moto X on Verizon. I want root. Don't care about ROMs or anything just want to be able to do a couple things mainly. I've read some threads and what not and am a little confused about how easy it is to root the thing with the latest update. Is it possible or did they patch it up? I'd be getting the phone from Verizon so I'm guessing it'd be up to date. Thanks in advance.
If its been updated your S.O.L! If it hasn't its super easy.

Even without root this phone is amazing! This is coming from someone who used to flash a new rom daily. Now like you, I still prefer root for certain apps but this phone is so good it would be just as enjoyable without root. You might get lucky and get one that's been in the cabinet for a couple of weeks then you could root it. If not I'd still get it. I would bet we will have a way to root the newer software before long anyway.

There is an alternative root method, it is not going to get released before 4.4 though... If it get released now, then the exploit will undoubtedly get patch with 4.4... So the creator is waiting for the big update to release, then release his root method.

A while back he said he had another way to root but would hold it back until 4.3+ update. That's cool he's pushing it out sooner... Hopefully the exploit doesn't get patched in the next update though, I understand the reason for waiting on these things, it's like playing chess.

Is the latest update the one with the camera improvements?
4.4 is a completely different ballgame when it comes to root and security exploits. His method was patched, that's why he's releasing it. Won't matter when 4.4 comes...

I would be very careful of the Dev edition. With carriers you get good support and exchanges. With Moto, the support is horrible and no chance for an exchange.

there is an exploit for the comera ota update now. It is not that complicated if you toy with your phone and know how to use adb and run some simple commands. There is a video for it and another thread that gives you instructions for windows for those that really don't know how to run things in cmd prompt.

"Titanium Backup". You have a lot of reading to do in the general threads. Depending on your firmware version will determine your available root methods. There's Kingo Root,Evilpotatoman's method etc.Read through the threads and then read again to make sure you grasp the methods.

The most effective way to remove bloat would be to root it, install titanium backup, and either uninstall or freeze applications.

I know lots of readings are necessary.

Download wanam from the playstore and install.
Download xposed framework from here and install.
Open xposed framework and select framework, then Install/Update.
Now open wanam and select system menu. Scroll down to multi window apps and select which ones you want. Then reboot. If you experience issues like an app not opening, you have to deselect it. I am unable to use Shealth when I select it for multi window. It might occur with other apps I haven't come across yet.
Wanam is definitely the all-on-one wonder app. Love it!!
You can also try the Play Store. There are a few apps for Samsung rooted phones. Search for "Samsung multi window"

I very highly recommend Knoxdroid by Drake http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2577273&highlight=widget. I just flashed the Bobcat theme on top of it an its amazing. Battery is top notch above any stock rom or custom for that matter. Hope this helps!

Thanks. I'll give it a shot after I try to get use to flashing roms using Safestrap. I'm coming from a TMO S3, and it's an entirely different ballgame, especially having to use a PC to do it.
