[Q] HTC One T-mobile Rom Selection - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

1. I recently have come to the realization that TMO is evil in giving us this awesome feature called Wifi Calling to hold us back from custom roms.
I'm spoiled.
From my understanding the TMO wifi calling feature is really just a framework that redirects the call to a TMO server, VOIP technology really. Can't a ROM Dev just add those lines of code into their ROM? Or is it more complicated then that? I heard that GS4 users have Wifi calling on 4.2.2 already. I'm going to dive in to my system to see if I can pull up the Wifi calling files after this.
2. Wifi calling aside, I'm trying unsuccessfully to move away from stock and get a custom rom loaded. Which ones would you guys recommend and why?
Thanks!

Tmobile Wifi Calling

I havent been able to get the wifi calling app to work on my captivate. It either sits at the attempting to connect or says error. Anyone know how to do this? I know its been done with the nexus and vibrant.
Thanks

I looked at DG's Cognition website at his recent change log....
"WiFi-Calling (This is will never work on AT&T)"
So... he didn't go into deep explanation, but I usually trust his judgment. Take it for what it's worth.
you need a modified kernel, a modified kernel module, and on a network that supports wi-fi calling. AT&T does not support this, they went to the "femtocell" market (AT&T microcell).
now if your phone is unlocked and running tmobile, that may be a different story, but you'd need to run a kernel that supported it (which none of the captivate ones do)
I need wificalling on Galaxy S Captivate... my captivate is unlock for Tmobile

[Q] Atrix HD Straight Talk AT&T Data - No Roaming

Hey Guys,
I had a problem with Data on Straight Talk. On native AT&T coverage everything works great, but when I am on roaming (Not on AT&T but a partner network) I get calls and text but no data. Other people on AT&T get Data and my same Sim in a Captivate (CM 10.1) gets me data. So something is up with the phone, blocking roaming for AT&T. Any ideas. I have tried every kind of various APN to no avail. Looked at some other stuff like Roaming_Table_PLMN_Blacklist (In com.motorola.android.provider.settings) and other stuff try to figure this out. Has anybody else had something like this happen. I also tried unlocking. I haven't done any of the ROMS, for fear of bricking. Maybe some international person has had a similar issue, I don't know. Can't seem to find anything with search.
4.1.1 Rooted + Maxx Battery
Straight Talk AT&T Sim
Thanks in advance.
I use my AHD on ST also, but never roam. I know they don't want you roaming at all, and they disconnect peoples service over it. If you're getting talk/text while roaming I would be happy with that.
In reality,i dont think you can roam on ST,at least i never could when i was with them a couple weeks ago, this happens to me on tmobile prepaid ,i can connect to att towers and make calls and text but cant get data, weird stuff

Not the Question
I know I can access data with ST SIM with my other phone, (Captivate CM 10.1) but not this phone (Atrix HD). Why? That is my question. Something on vanilla Mot AT&T devices is blocking me from getting Roaming Data. Straight talk DOES provide the service with many other users verifying we are on the AT&T postpaid network (Including all roaming partners for voice text & data). If I didn't have another phone that worked maybe I wouldn't care too.
Would ROMs help maybe, because that is about the only thing I haven't tried. If they are close to AOSP then maybe that is the solution. I'm just scared of bricking so I must have a detailed and verified procedure. I don't have SS3 installed yet. I may try this and report back, becuase I think Captivate Stock has the same problem.
I guess AT&T put something in that conflicts with the MVNO and nobody knows how to get around it. I'm hoping somebody does though, that's why I asked, because I don't know, and am out of ideas.
I'll report back once I try this, I guess AT&T put something in that conflicts with the MVNO and nobody knows how to get around it. I'm hoping somebody does though, that's why I asked, because I don't know, and am out of ideas.
I'll report back once I try this, I will figure it out (I hope). There has to be a solution.
ThanksI will figure it out (I hope). There has to be a solution.
Thanks

N900A, T-Mobile ROM, and WiFi Calling/SMS...

Hello,
I just retired my venerable Samsung T699 Relay 4G (RIP QWERTY Keyboard) and, just picked up an unlocked, "refurbished" AT&T Note 3 for pretty cheap (it was sold as an "International" model, so I didn't know it was an AT&T version until I got it). I've had T-Mobile service for the last couple of years, and the big draw, for me, is WiFi calling/SMS; I've installed SafeStrap and been trying some T-Mobile ROMs, but can't seem to get WiFi calling to work. Obviously I've got a T-Mobile SIM card, and I've tried changing/adding APNs, and installing different builds of KitKat (some of which won't even boot - NB4 and NF9 seem to work best), but I still can't get it to work properly. I've been racking my brain and searching the Interspace for the last two weeks with no luck... what am I missing? Is it even possible?
Thanks in advance!
Hello,
As a fellow N900A user on Tmobile, I have been trying to get wifi calling as well.
I tried using a tmobile stock rom with wifi calling baked in (tweaked), but that did not work. I was told that I need to add an emergency 911 address, but even doing this did not do it.
I would think that wifi calling is doable, but something tells me that tmobile might be doing something similar to Verizon. Rumor was that Verizon had a list of IMEIs, and if your IMEI was not on their list, you couldn't bring the phone over to Verizon, even if it were CDMA capable (once again, this is rumor as I cannot confirm this is true).
The closest I have been to getting wifi calling through tmobile was having the settings show on the stock tmobile rom, but that was about it. Maybe someone in the forums has an answer/got it working, but I have yet to see one. I'll keep you posted if I somehow get it to work, but something tells me this won't happen for a while.

Yeah, considering I have zero service with any provider where I live (but 4G LTE 100 yards down the street), WiFi services were the single reason I went with T-Mobile. Considering the Unlocking Bill, one wouldn't think a carrier could block IMEIs from being used on another carrier... but I have a hard time reading the fine print, so there is that.
I've tried several of the stock T-Mobile ROMs, and while WiFi calling was there, it simply wouldn't enable; it would try to enable, but never would. Have you contacted T-Mobile and asked if there are any potential fixes? I'm considering doing that, but am worried that they'll say "Oh, that's your IMEI, looks like you can't use it on our network SORRYABOUTYOURLUCK!"
I have contacted tmobile about this before.
Their response was that they did not know why it did not work. They helped me set up the emergency 911 address, but they said when it comes to other hardware they couldn't give me a reason why it wouldn't work.
I remember dwetherill (sp?) mention that some n900a users were able to get wifi calling on their phones. I don't know if the modem can/will affect wifi calling, but at this point it's the easier thing to test.
I'm on the NJ5 modem - I might try testing out NC2.
Have you tried carl's TMB version of the norma stable rom? Check it out if you haven't. Wifi calling is supposed to connect automatically. I haven't seen it work yet, but I'll keep you posted if somehow I get it to work.

I'm on NC2, and haven't gotten anything to work as of yet... I've been looking for modem threads, but I guess I need to look a little harder. I'll search that ROM out and give it a shot, and let you know if it works with NC2. Thanks for the heads-up! :good:
So I tried NC2 modem, and it is not allowing for wifi calling.
I went to tmobile yesterday to get another line added. Rumor on the tmobile side is that AT&T is working to get wifi calling setup for the n900a's by around April. Take it as a rumor at this point, seeing how it came from tmobile, but the rep made a good point - AT&T tends to follow what tmobile is doing, so who knows.
Here's to hoping they're right.
BTW, I went to the note 4 tmobile forums, and I grabbed a deodexed stock rom. I noticed that there were a few files related to wifi calling (had WFC in the name). I tried playing around with it last night, and I managed to get the settings. It will even go so far as to turn the phone GSM radio off when you select wifi only. It's doing what Tweaked was doing for me (which was keeping the wifi calling option grayed out (enabling). I think I'm still missing a few files to get it to work, but I'll keep playing around with it later and let you know if I have any success.

I wonder how that would work regarding using a T-Mobile SIM in the AT&T phone, and if it could support cross-carrier features like that.
You're a braver soul than I, that's for sure. If I knew anything about what I was looking at/for, I'd be more than willing to help get this nut cracked... otherwise, I look forward to your findings!

[Q] t-mobile wifi calling on an n6 purchased straight from google?

i apologize if this question has been asked and answered already -- i've found several threads in which people have asked whether t-mobile's wifi calling will work on custom roms, but my question is different.
does anybody know, conclusively, whether i can purchase a nexus 6 straight from google, activated it on my t-mobile account, and use t-mobile's wifi calling feature? i understand that a factory image containing this feature is available (https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#shamulyz28e) but it says "5.1.1 (For T-Mobile ONLY) (LYZ28E)".
is this actually correct, or is there a way to flash this image to a vanilla nexus 6?
thanks.

yes. except when you buy it it'll be at android 5.0.1. after you boot up, eventually you'll get an update to 5.1, then 5.1.1. this will enable WiFi calling on tmobile. or, you could manually install the factory img for 5.1.1. your choice.

You could also flash Android M dev preview, it supports WiFi Calling.

AT&T doesn't support WiFi Calling on XZ1 Compact..Any ideas on a possible workaround?

AT&T doesn't support WiFi Calling on XZ1 Compact..Any ideas on a possible workaround?
hey folks.
So, basically, I live in the middle of nowhere, and AT&T is the only viable cell service provider for the area--but, even so, at home I get almost no cell signal at all. AT&T, as i'm sure many of you are aware, are exceedingly strict and selective about wifi calling supported devices...and the XZ1C is not one of em. bottom line--at home, my cell phone is useless.
I have been doing research, digging through forum threads on XDA and other sites, and testing out custom ROMs (Havoc and Lineage, thus far) all in the hopes of finding SOME workaround for this "unsupported device" issue. I would be very grateful for any thoughts, ideas, or what have you from the XDA community on this matter.
My line of thinking/experimentation thus far:
1. I really thought i was on to something when i flashed Havoc v3.9--following said installation i checked Google's "Find My Device" and saw that my XZ1C is, in google's eyes, a "Google Pixel 4". That said, the device's IMEI is still that of an XZ1C.
Is there some way to change one's IMEI to an AT&T wifi calling compatible IMEI number?
Alternatively, what would happen if i were to give AT&T an IMEI that is not my device's?
More largely, is a custom ROM even capable of assisting one in a cell-provider-hoodwinking process such as this? is Rooting the device a better course of action?
2. different line of thinking: i saw an XDA forum thread concerning the Samsung Galaxy S8, as well as a reddit post re: the GalaxyFold that both make the claim that flashing AT&T Userdata onto their unlocked devices allowed for wifi calling functionality.
Is this idea applicable in my XZ1C situation? Or were the aforementioned people only able to attain wifi calling thru flashing userdata because they simply had unlocked editions of devices also sold by AT&T?
I apologize for the wall of text but i thank you all in advance. I hope something can be figured out so that i can keep using my favorite smartphone. worst case i guess i'll have to use a different device for the foreseeable future.
