[SOLVED] Boot loop with no Recovery or ROM - Help! - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, my first post so please be gentle.
I have managed to get my HTC One in a bit of a mess. A while ago I rooted it and installed CWMT and an Android revolution ROM. All worked well.
I then decided that I wanted to upgrade to a new ROM (4.4 Viper One) and also wanted to remove CWMT and install TWRP as I read that TWRP officially supports HTC one whereas CWMT doesn't. I also read (I think) that the latest TWRP was required for flashing the 4.4 rom I wanted.
I then very stupidly had a brain fail and tried to install the 4.4 Viper ROM via CWMT without being S-OFF. The Viper install started and data was wiped, then the install failed.
Now the phone just boots to the bootloader. If I select recovery I see a very brief CWMT screen then the phone reboots to bootloader. I am OK using the SDK and fastboot etc, so I flashed TWRP (I was told the flash was successful) and rebooted. It rebooted to bootloader, so i tried to enter recovery and got a brief TWRP splashscreen then and my phone rebooted. I do not think that my phone now has a ROM installed and I have no recovery I can boot to.
If I understand correctly the best way out of my situation is to flash the correct RUU for my phone, but I am having trouble locating the correct one. I have found some via HTC One Guru and think the correct one for me is:
File Size: 1.1 GiB - Downloads: 690
MD5: 81bda125ec09b57255024526b1952ca5
Comments: Stock Vodafone UK ROM 2.24.161.1 with graphical aroma installer. Includes the ability to flash the Stock Recovery and also Stock Radio.
OTA Updates, when available.
modelid: PN0710000
cidnum: VODAP001
cidnum: VODAP102
cidnum: VODAPE17
cidnum: VODAP405
cidnum: VODAP304
cidnum: VODAPD18
cidnum: VODAP120
cidnum: VODAP110
The model ID above matches mine ie HTC_001 and I am on VOD carrier. I cannot remember my CIDNUM as I am at work but can check later.
My question (s) to you very helpful people are:
Am I taking the correct approach for fixing my phone? I think I need to get the correct RUU zip for me, then flash it using fastboot USB. This should then take me back to a stock rom and recovery and I can then flash a newer recovery and install a new ROM (i now understand S-OFF and TWRP will be required for 4.4 roms)
I would really appreciate it if someone could let me know if my thought process is correct and I am trying to do things in the correct order. Also, if someone could confirm what the correct RUU is for me it would be appreciated. It will need to be flashed via Fastboot so I guess will need to be the .zip as opposed to the .exe?
If any other info is required from me to identify the correct RUU please let me know and i can post the data a little later whern I am home.
I feel I am quite close to understanding what I need to do and would like to learn how to do this for myself, I just would like someone to confirm I'm going the right way, and to point out any important points I may have missed.
Thankyou VERY much!!
Chris

Didnt read all of it, but stuck at "entering recovery", is fixed by a "fastboot erase cache"
as for TWRP, did you download from
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7
or
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7ul
and you didn't check MD5, right? download managers don't work on that site, and you probably got a bad download, so download again, verify MD5 (eg http://www.winmd5.com/ or any other tool), and if it verifies correctly, then
fastboot flash recovery <name of recovery>.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
and then you can enter recovery.
EDIT: and S-Off is only required for 4.4 GPE ROMs; Sense ROMs should be fine

Thanks for the reply!
Maybe my issue is easier solved than I thought. Maybe all I need to do is "fastboot erase cache" and flash recovery.
My TWRP came from the teamw.in site (can't post link) and you are right when you state that I didn't check the MD5 so thanks for that point, and also thanks re the point re S-OFF and certain ROMs..I didn't know that.
I'll try erase cache etc..when I get home and update.

still for 4.4 (GPE or Sense) you'll need TWRP 2.6.3.3 or .4, CWM is not (fully) compatible yet.
download one from above links (avoid download managers!!) and make sure MD5 matches, then flash recovery as stated above, and you should be good to go.

OK I'm good now
I successfully flashed a recovery and installed a ROM via ADB sideload. I initially flashed TWRP but it asked me for a password (?), so I re-flashed CWMT and went through the sideload process.
Thanks very much for the help and support..it is very much appreciated. This site is an awesome resource and I would have been lost without it.
Thanks again!

[Q] HTC Incredible S stuck in limbo :(

Well here's the story, someone gave me their phone to root (i'm the official rooter in my city ) and i accidently skipped over a major step, infact a few of them.
1: I unlocked the phone and flashed clockwork touch recovery
2: Did not backup the original non rooted rom
3: Did not S-off the phone
4: Flashed Android Revolution HD
Now No rom is working, IT gets stuck on the white HTC logo. At least tried 2-3 of them. Cyanogen and ARHD to start with. Tried a few RUU but those aren't going through too. Tried extracting rom.zip from the RUU and flashing manually but they dont work.
Attached is an image with the details of the Firmware on the phone and radio atm
I checked the HTC CID and it's 044 ... Any sort of help would be appreciated.
I feel bad for your city where did you get cwm touch recovery?
Have you flashed the boot.img in fastboot?
If flashing the boot doesn't work. Couldn't you just attempt to s-off through fast boot and flash the RUU etc?
Sent from my Incredible S using xda premium
I feel sorry for them too, now that i screwed up, for the first time though
Well my hboot version is 2.01 and it wasn't supported in revolutionary.io 's s-off method. Didnt think it would work any other way. I dont know how to downgrade it to 1.13.
I got my clockwork recovery from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680 this post. If only i can find the original rom/RUU which i can flash and just reset it to the original factory rom. :| i tried 3-4 of the RUU in the filefactory folder that's listed in the incredible s shipped rom section but none of them work.
Can i change the CID in teh android_info text file in the rom.zip of the RUU ? would that work ? apparently the zip is claimed to be corrupt when i try adding the same file back.

I'll ask again, have you flashed the boot.img in fastboot? The link you provided has no touch recovery in the OP or am I required to read all 29 pages?
If you're using cwm from the OP, you should update. Here's the newest version I know of http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
To your question about flashing an ruu with a modified android_info on an s-on device: no.
You can find what ruu you need by entering the command
Code:
fastboot getvar version-main
the number returned corresponds to the ruu that you should be looking for.
As you are an experienced rooter you probably already know to wipe cache and usually data when you flash a new Rom.
@vizzy how would you gain s-off in fastboot mode?

this is hte file i posted from the link i shared before. Which exact boot.img are you talking about ?? Also most of my rootings were done with either unrevoked or alpharev which required minimal tweaking . I'm no pro, just try to give it my best
Also the version that the fasboot command gave me was 3.11.707.1. (thanks for that tip, i'll remember it). Going to search for it
Also how can i S-off in hboot or fasboot atm ??

Because the phone is s-on, the way you need to flash a custom rom is as follows:
Install zip from sdcard in cwm, then extract the boot.img file from the zip file and flash it in fastboot I.e
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
these steps are included in the newbs guide sticky
THANKS !!!

[Q] S-On, reboot loop, HBOOT 1.55, need to restore

I've been having some problems recently. I've been wanting to update to Kitkat but I have replaced the stock recovery software with CWM, and thus it doesn't work.
To solve this problem I've figured out that I need to get my claws on an RUU, which I have. Hopefully I've grabbed the right one. It doesn't seem like the RADIO serial-thingy matches though. Device has
Code:
4A.21
whilst the RUU has
Code:
4A.23
.
I've tried using the RUU in fastboot but later figured out that I need to have S-OFF for that. That is currently not the case. I've tried using both Firewater and Rumrunner. According to the instructions I'm required to have the phone on in the usual way. As in, not in the bootloader. The problem is that my phone is stuck in some restart loop. When reaching the PIN-screen it will automatically restart/crash after a few seconds. I can however use the phone as usual during this time. Sometimes, it alerts me with an error.
It also seems like the battery completely empties itself sometimes. This is when trying to restore it, getting in and out from the bootloader and the like.
Here's some software info:
CID: HTC__Y13
MIDN0710000
Bootloader info:
Code:
M7_UL PBT SHIP S-ON RH
Code:
HBOOT-1.55.0000
Code:
RADIO-4A.21.3263.04
Code:
OpenDSP-v32.120.274.0909
Code:
OS-3.62.401.1
Great thanks in advance and pardon my useless formatting (and my lacking knowledge of this forum as there might be some rules I'm not following), I'm damn tired of this device.

If the RUU is an .exe file, then try placing it in the same folder as your ADB/FASTBOOT files. Plug-in your phone to your PC so that it is recognized on the PC then double click the RUU.exe file. Follow the on-screen instructions. You don't need S-OFF to run an RUU for your phone with the correct CID & MID providing the RUU is the same version or higher.

The RUU crashes when launching it, "InstallScript Setup Launcher has stopped working". I'm quite sure I have the required stuff to run it. Running it as admin didn't help.

It looks like a PC issue. Check out this post Installscript setup launcher has stopped working! In the reply they list two methods it looks like you did the first one. Sometimes, I just have to reboot the computer to get everything set correctly.

Unfortunately, none of these methods helps. The device is supposed to be in Fastboot USB mode when the RUU is launched, yes?

what is the ruu version you are trying to use (complete file name)?
easiest way: download this guru reset file, its exactly the same version you have on your phone now.
http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_3-62-401-1-zip/
put TWRP 2.6.3.3 (recommended) recovery on your phone
copy the zip to your SDcard
Enter recovery and flash like you would do with a custom rom
in the Aroma installer, select wipe data, install stock recovery, install stock radio when prompted.
This file will put you back to fully stock.

Hi, I'm a newbie and I was supposed to post a thread regarding a problem I'm facing similar to this. So if it's alright, I'll post it here also and ask for your advice. I recently unlocked my HTC One w/ 4.4.2 amd Sense 6.0 a few days ago and was also able to flash CWM custom recovery and root it. I then tried flashing the latest Android Revolution HD, when I rebooted the phone after intallation, it just stays on the first spash screen. I forgot that I needed to S-off my device. So now, I can only access the bootloader and recovery. The status of my device currently is *Tampered*, Unlocked and S-On with 1.57 Hboot. Also, I can't copy files from my PC to the device. I don't know what to do. I've been reading around but I think I need some concrete advice. Thank you in advance.

Best to start your own thread, but on a quick fix, your problem is CWM, you need to use TWRP recovery to flash that rom, also recommend 2.6.3.3
Tampered and unlocked is normal, nothing to worry about, and you don't need s-off to flash custom rom's, just an unlocked bootloader

Bugger, I have it renamed to RUU.exe and it's md5 doesn't match any file from the site I remember I downloaded it from. I am, however, currently downloading

CID and MID matches, but I didn't buy it in the UK. It was bought in Europe.

Did you name that file yourself, that's the wrong file, that one is O2 "206", hence 4.20.206.16 you need 401, 3.62.401.1 which is WWE, the same number under your os information in your first post and the same as the guru reset I linked.

Download the 2.6.3.3 version of TWRP, rename the file to recovery, place the .img file in the folder on your PC where ADB is located and then flash in fastboot with fastboot flash recovery recovery.img. After that command completes, run fastboot erase cache. Then you can copy the ARHD 81 .zip to your phone and flash away.

You should RUU and get everything working the way it should again.
Then flash a rom from the Sprint section.

NOTE: Read the threads, the instructions I'm giving you are just for you to gauge the difficulty of this task, to see if you can do it. Don't follow my instructions! Read the threads!
Read this first.
Then get this firmware.zip and put it in your adb/fastboot folder
source
reboot into fastboot mode with:
adb reboot bootloader
unless you don't have ADB, which you probably don't because you dun goofed when you flashed an Int'l ROM. In which case just press and hold power + vol down and pray.
once you're in fastboot mode, check to see if your device is recognized (may have to do this as root user in linux):
fastboot devices
This should list your device. If nothing comes up, check back here.
Now we're gonna lock your bootloader because RUU fails on unlocked bootloaders (security reasons). Skip this if you're S-Off (you shouldn't be, that's for advanced users).
fastboot oem lock
Now you're gonna go into RUU mode, which lets you modify all partitions of the phone (because you won't be in one):
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Now, we're going to flash the stock image to all the partitions of your device. This is the step that will undo your mistake!
fastboot flash zip firmware_version.zip
NOTE: Change the name of firmware_version.zip to whatever you download from above. If you get an error saying "flush again immdeiately," flash again immediately; just put in the exact same command.
Done. Just finalize with this:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
And then unplug and redo your entire root/ROM process from there.
Hopefully this mini guide will give you an idea of whether you'll need further help. @BD619 is a great fellow to ask.
thank you. you are a life saver. my phone is alive
iv unlocked the bootloader. what do i have to do now install custom rom?

[SOLVED] Help - Soft Brick :)

Hello Devs,
I am assuming that I soft bricked my ATT HTC M7 today. I actually did the following
1. Unlocked Bootloader though HTCDev - Successful
2. Installed SuperUser - Successful (Failed as the partition has been completely wiped off)
3. S -off - Biggest mistake - Didn't do.
4. Recovery - Successful (twrp, Philz and CWM) worked fine, currently have Philz.
5. Tried RUU, but the version doesn't match with the version of existing image in the device. Gives an error)
6. Assuming, the data in the device is only the recovery and the boot loader. Also, all the recoveries have been accidentally wiped off.
7. Tried Side-Load, (confused - if I used wrong kernel, so the ROM installs, but never past the HTC logo screen).
Please suggest any of your valuable advices or atleast a link or thread to exact RUU of 5.12.502.2 (ATT, Stock)... I don't know what I'm doing...Please help ad your help will be greatly appreciated.:

you are likely using a wrong recovery version for the ROM you are flashing, most ROMs prefer TWRP 2.6.3.3, 2.8.0.0 or 2.8.0.1 (eg ARHD82 will not flash with twrp 2.8.0.2)
flash correct recovery (depending on the ROM), and install it
check the Frequently Asked Question sticky page 3
for more information
post back here, if you have further questions
There is no ruu for 5.12.502.2 but if you want to go back to stock, there is reset rom made by clsA that match your version here: http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_5-12-502-2_clsa-zip/
flash like a rom, following instructions from nkk71 above.

i realize you may be having a hard time, so my sincerest apologies for giving you an even more hard time
provided the hardware is not messed up, everything will be fine, you just need:
proper ROM (ie md5 checks out)
correct recovery for whatever rom you want to install
a little patience (first clean flah for a HTC Sense based ROM can take "almost" 20 mins)

what are you trying to flash(which rom)I've been using it right along and it flashes every rom I've tried so far, no problems, don't know why it's not working for you.
before you flash the twrp type fastboot erase cache. then flash the recovery.
when you say it won't boot you mean the recovery or the rom

I don't know then maybe someone else can help you out, sorry.
Now after attempting to flash the TWRP recovery image to the device (seding OK, flashing OK, erasing cache OK) I am not able to enter recovery. The system does attempt to enter and I receive the pink message at the top of the screen "Entering Recovery..." but then the system reboots and enters the stock OS. I was not able to actually root the device yet so what do I do?

your bootloader needs to be unlocked, via htcdev.com, then flash recovery then flash supersu(superuser) to get root

OK!
You have a pretty good brain trust of people trying to help you out. You may wish to be a little nicer to them before no one wants to help you.
Your issue is something I've not seen before, so I can't help much. The only thing that stands out to me is that you run a WL ROM not a WLS ROM. It makes me wonder if the phone is truly a Sprint phone. Again, I'm grasping at straws since it's such a strange issue.
Sorry if i answere in this op, but i've same issue, only with first version of RUU the "Sprint_HTC_One_m7wls_1.29.651.10_RUU", device accept Old TWRP 2.5.0.0, no other TWRP "wls" accept my device, have tryed all version from original site for TWRP but nothingh..
if i Update to the Original Sense Sprint RUU like "Sprint_HTC_One_m7wls_3_04_651_2_RUU", device Not accept any TWRP only "PhilZ Recovery" are full working so i want ask Why this issue?
@coal686 thank to you i've cecked now the last RUU version posted in one op of @BD619 and i've seen that last 2 RUU in this op are for WL not for WLS, and now i've understand becouse any TWRP from these RUU was working:good:
@BD619, we tonight have to talk about this op, now there's here confirm why i've issues with my device, was flashing WL rom instead of WLS rom, clear i had problem please update the op becouse is very good op of Rescue for who have flashed Gsm Rom in they Sprint device but out datate

Please ceck you Rom installed and you can see that also you have WL rom and not WLS rom, this is the problem becouse not working the TWRP for Sprint wls
Guys, what do you mean "WL" rom?
I have a sprint phone
I have flashed "Sprint_HTC_One_m7wls_5.03.651.3_RUU" many times to recover phon.
Now I Got S-off using sunshine.apk and updated firmware to the last available for sprint M7 (5.05.651.2) Just firmware was modded, not stock.
Now I have the next in bootloader
M7_WLS PVT SHIP S-OFF RH
CID-SPCS_001
HBOOT-1.57.0000
RADIO-1.01.20.0904_2
OpenDSP-v32.120.274.0909
OS-5.05.651.2
eMMC-boot 2048MB
May 15 2014, 16:31:22.0
and still have same problem
openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-m7wls will flash OK BUT will not boot recovery, just shows "Entering Recovery...."
I cannot find older versions to try, the oldest I have found 2.6.3.0 does not boot
stock sprint recovery boots OK
philz_touch_6.25.0-m7spr boots OK (but it seems to me it does not support new ROMs)
philz_touch_6.26.6-m7spr and newer does not boot too
