Hi all,
I am trying to flash my G1 to one of the nice custom roms. I flashed the recovery and spl just fine.
Now I cannot flash anything. I've tried different roms (cyanogen and dude's) and even tried flashing the radio. No love. The error is that it cannot find my sdcard or update.zip.
Phone is pvt and is rooted.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Hank
What steps did you take to root? Is your card fat32?
Did you mount the sdcard on windows? If you did, rename the file to update not update.zip on WINDOWS! Also, can you even mount your sdcard? If not, then there's your problem.
I followed the rooting instructions from this site. i do have # in the local terminal.
i can mount the sd card and i did mount in windows to transfer fikes over. i should just name them update not update.zip?

That will probably help.. By default Windows hides the extension (the .zip part) so when you rename it to "update.zip" you actually make it update.zip.zip
Easy way to check is look at the original file.. if it says something like
Code:
update-cm-3.6.6-signed.zip
you need to rename to
Code:
update.zip
if it says
Code:
update-cm-3.6.6-signed
then just call it
Code:
update
Thanks. Getting a signature error now.
Will try a different version of the file once I am off Caltrain.
Yeah - if you have a modded recovery and get that error, it's most likely a bad download. Good luck.
That did it. It is always something so simple.
Thanks a ton. Hopefully this thread will help someone else as well.

I have tryed to flash many roms, 2.2.1 2.3.1 2.3.5 .2.3.6, (JVT, JVR, LPY, and new ones) always same issue: "E: failed to mount /data (invalid argument) and then bootlooping.
I`m sure my mmcblk0p2 is broken, question is how to force delete this partition or flash rom in to external SDcard!

Well you cant flash roms onto sdcard... But if your partition is broken, then sorry but im a noob
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Have you tired using a pit file?
flash a stock rom from samfirmware.com with ODIN.(eg. jw5)
to extract the password is "samfirmware.com"
tick repartition and use 512 pit file(included in rom from samfirmware).
check youtube for "flash with odin" if u dont know how.
edit:u are trying to flash from from samsungs 3 recovery.u need cwm(clockworkmod) to flash.
go to CF-ROOT(for i-9000) thread and follow instructions and read all in the OP(1-2-3 posts)
again u need ODIN to flash it.
hey
there is the best wasy to do that...just go to sammobile.com
there sign up first and then download the firmware (in firmware tab) and flash-programs...
the make sure to use oidn3_v1.0 only...
you can also download the flash-guide if you need it...
its simple..
Thanks to everyone for replays, but nothing helped me x_x
if i flash 2.2.1 or 2.3.6 i receiving this error:
https://www.box.com/s/4d4b108a0246f9f56c7c
If i flash 2.3.3 or 2.3.4:
https://www.box.com/s/f09fd945620c03daffa9
And then it keep showing me GT 9000 logo......
yes i used 512pit and using 1.82 odin
I know there is way to install in to external SDcard: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdMhYYdMB08
I had such error and successfully installed rom in to sdcard but i had issue with phone signal, so tried to re install rom and now its keep teling me cant mount data..

Yep, keep shows only gt-9000 logo..
I had a very similar problem earlier this year.
From what I could see the partitions on the phone's internal storage weren't able to be accessed. In adb I tried using parted and rm but the partitions there (/dev/block/mmc/blk0) didn't ever change. I also tried various .pit files and Android versions through Odin but nothing worked.
I took my phone in for repairs after flashing a really old version; as close as possible to what it came with, and they fixed it. The repair was due to 'mechanical fatigue' according to them. I assumed the internal storage was some how broken or corrupted and couldn't be written to.
Not sure, if you manage to solve this.
From you screenshots I can see you are using 3e recovery. I would suggest you to flash a kernel which support cwm recovery mode.
I have heard peoples getting this error while using it on 3e.
Captain_17
Yes Captain_17, i have exactly same problem, cant give it to repair since purchased it from abroad.

3e recovery because i`ve flashed 2.2 and 2.2.1 or any other official roms, i can flash CWM easy but as Captain_17 said i can see but cant touch
files or partitions.
If flash CWM then phone will boot to CWM only, and i cant flash any rom from CWM because i cant copy files to internal storage and external (sdcard) cwm doesn't see it.
Sorry man, wish I could be of more help. I tried every available option I could find online but nothing worked.
Seems to be a hardware problem and replacing the damaged part is the only solution.
Silly question, but you ticked re-partition? try flash 2.2.1 or 2.3.3 with 512 pit and repartition
Also, you could try to flash Darky ressurection via odin, not completely stock rom. I know that this is just tweaked stock, but you could try do that.
And, you could try to use Heimdall instead of odin - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196179
I have read somewhere that heimdall is more preferable than odin in some cases.

I once also a similar problem and flash2.1 Eclayr. But then I had to restore recowery to flash. as with you, I do not know if it helps.
Hey,
first of all sorry for my bad english. I really hope anyone understand the problem and can help me
I have tried the following steps to create the zip:
1. downloaded the actually FTF
2. renamed ROM.ftf to ROM.zip
3. extracted the system.sin
4. extract the system.sin to ext4 via Flashtool 0.9.12.1
Then occurred the first problem. I could not open the ext4 file with any tool from XDA.
So I searched for other options to create the zip and tried the following steps:
1. installed the FTF on the smartphone i prefer
2. installed the doomkernel with dual-recovery
3. started a twrp backup
4. copied the syststem.ext4.win to my harddrive
5. extrated the system.ext4.win and put it together with the META-files and the updater-script
Butevery time when i tried to flash this file, i received the error "error set_perm aborted ... 7"
I get the same message when I tried to flash the ROM from @krabappel2548
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2440408
Is there a problem with the recovery?
Can anyone help me?

The first hit, that's what you need to read, learn and try,
Its a bit more complicated that what you have tried so far
Thanks for the quick response and the info.
But how would I proceed without tools? And the second question is, why can not I install the ROM from krabappel?

You need to install the tools. Either install a dual boot linux machine or a virtual Linux machine. Read post 3 of that thread
And the second question is, why can not I install the ROM from krabappel?

Because of this
Code:
== Information ==
Only for Unlocked bootloaders!!
You don't have an unlocked bootloader is my guess
At this time, the bootloader was unlocked. Now I have made a TA recovery and everything is stock
But I will try it later one more time with the kitchen when i'm at home.
Thank you for your help. I will give you a feedback.
all hd
It does not work. I have installed a Linux client. Then I unzipped the system.sin via flashtool. After that I received a system.ext4, which I can not open in the KITCHEN.
Please help me.

rename it to system.img.
Its in the instructions for the kitchen thread
Good Night,
First of all, I hope this will be of use to someone
I own a Z3 Compact which I rooted yesterday. I followed the steps detailed in here, and today I was getting ready to start using XPosed but I am unable to install it, since I am getting a nice :
SD Card: /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/files
Copying Xposed-Disabler-Recovery.zip...
Mounting /system writable...
mount: permission denied (are you root?)
Could not mount /system writable
Trying to continue anyway...
cp: can't create '/system/bin/
app_process.orig': Read-only file system
Failed to create a backup of /system/bine/app_process

I followed every step, even flashed the part specified at the FAQ that asks me to flash RICDefeat.zip
FAQ
- Some root apps don't work, because /system can't be remounted rw, what's up with that?
Sony has a special in kernel protection that disallow remounting /system read-write, even for root. Flash this in recovery (copy it to the sdcard and reboot in recovery with volume UP pressed, then install it): https://github.com/dosomder/SonyRICD.../RICDefeat.zip

So since I could not get through, even after following every step, opted for a different Installation Mode, to see if I could avoid that by flashing stuff instead
Installation Mode
Classical (write to /system directly)
Recovery (flash zip automatically)
Recovery (write zip to SD card, flash manually)
Click to collapse
I've tried all three methods
- The first one throws that error
- The second reboots the phone without flashing a thing,
- The third one ... well, it says the following
SD card: /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/files
Copying Xposed-Disabler-Recovery.zip...
Copying Xposed-Installer-Recovery.zip...
Copying XposedBridge.jar...
Please flash Xposed-Installer-Recovery.zip from the SD card to complete the operation.

So then you just have to reboot in recovery, dig to that same folder and find in there the zip to flash.
Anyway, just posting this in case anyone has that same problem, because it has driven me crazy not being able to fix that /system non writable problem with Sony. geez....
Cheers
Thank you so much. It works for my Z3C Docomo (already flashed with US ROM - D5803_23.0.1.A.5.77_US.ftf).
Thanks!
I had another Z3c that broke and the installation was as smoth as possible, but i had unlocked bootloader and rooted by the old method (that needed BU).
I got a new phone from assistence and did the root without UB.. and got the same problem .. thanks for the "tutorial"
Alright so this fixes some issue you had with the actual flashing of xposed in TWRP? I'm assuming it doesn't fix the bootloop problem that happens if you don't wipe the cache between every restart?
I'm not sure I follow your original thread,or what you actually did to resolve whatever issue it is that you were having...

I'm currently being driven crazy by Sony's ridiculous R/W restriction, so I'd like to be able to lift it. If I understand correctly, your thread is partially about that. I'm having trouble flashing RICDefeat from recovery.
I don't understand the difference between flashing a zip automatically and flashing it manually. The only method I know is copying to SD/internal memory, booting into recovery and install/flash zip from there. Which recovery did you use?
Thanks.
The latest XPosed Installer is missing last option, but I found the file downloaded at /sdcard/Android/data/de.robv.../cache/downloads/framework
Hi all,
I used the SRK Tool recently to TWRP and Root.
All was going well until I used hisuite to restore my phone.
It failed in restoring one app and it created a cache file in data/data, tried deleting the file in ES File Explorer, SD Maid to no avail.
So I went to format the partitions in TWRP.
The phone won't start (im guessing there is no OS so I am looking for the stock rom as the hisuite recovery doesnt work as well.)
TRWP Factory Reset is still showing the same following error
Updating partition details...
Error opening: '/data/data/renamedeleteapp/app_xwalkcore/Default/Cache/5de9a45e57c756c2_0' (No such file or directory)
...done

Anyone able to shed some light on how I can fix this corrupted partition and reload an OS so my phone works again?
Thanks!!!
the huawei erecovery system doesnt seem to be working either.
Nor does the hisuite recovery. Asking me to bring it to the service center
Managed to flash the new world ROM but the partition error still persisting. Anyone?
I would say probably your best bet is to use the stock rom here ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/stock-rom-dload-file-p9-eva-l09-b136-t3382818 to restore completely to stock and then start again from scratch
