[Q] Headset Camera Shutter (Tasker?) - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was googling how to remap the headset button to activate the camera shutter, and couldn't find how to do it.
Is there a way that, if the camera app is running, pressing the button (only one button on my headset) would trigger a photo capture?
I have Tasker, but can't find out how to do it..
If camera app is NOT running, then I'd like it to perform whatever default function it does (think it starts playing music from the Walkman app).
Little help? Baby steps needed as I've never used Tasker before..
EDIT - FOUND A SOLUTION
On the Play Store is Vignette in both demo and full versions. This, after some setup, does what I wanted. The stock single button headset that came with my phone in the box acts like a shutter release button inside the app, and outside the app, does what the ROM wants (in my case, press once starts/stops music, press+hold activates Google Now).
I even lopped off the headphones with some scissors, so the headset is now a dedicated Google Now / Camera Shutter wire.

Note:
Most apps I've found don't offer camera shutter functionality. All can change it to do volume up/down, or pause/play or something music related.. but none that I could see offered camera functionality..

This option can be made at the moment with MW1 Handset and this app was recommended to me for your purpose https://play.google.com/store/apps/...extras.liveware.extension.remotecameracontrol

I'm not about to buy a $200 device to get this working :/

So your handset is not Sony? So if is not probably will be difficult to use it to make a camera functionality with it. Other apps for handset device which I know is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=se.petersson.watch but I don't know if will help you, probably Sony device only. Try it anyway.
BTW, the Handset MW1 do not cost $200 but $100 only and it's very good, I mean very good. If someone asking $200 for it, it's a scammer.

I must have misread the price because upon visiting the link in my history, it's $74.99, which still is not a price point for a camera remote..
I'm hoping to set up my Tasker app to do this, or find an app that will let me use the stock Sony camera app, and the headset that came with the device as a camera shutter.

It's Sony Handset so you probably should try, give a shot with some apps for Sony Handset even if they are not for that one which you have but maybe are compatible.

[Q] How to silence camera shutter sound?

Is there a way to remove the shutter sound the camera makes when taking photos or video regardless of the rom? Can I just use root explorer and find the audio files and delete them? If this is possible, where are the audio files and what are their names?
There was a modified camera.apk posted, but it didn't work with latest firmware so I didn't really used it.
Most of the camera sounds are files located at /system/media/audio/ui.
However, the shutter sound in embedded in the camera.apk itself. Maybe it can be done using and apk editor, but I'm no programmer, so I have no clue to get it working.
Please follow the steps to disable it!
1. Please make sure the Galaxy Note is rooted.
2. Use root explorer(or any other similar apps like it).
3. Start the Root Explorer and browse the file “/system/media/audio/ui”
4. Click on the “Mount Button” in Root Explorer.
5. Rename “Shutter_01.ogg” to “Shutter_01.ogg.off” or Shutter_01.ogg.backup
6. Say goodbye to the camera shutter sound
keep device in silent mode..

Which Firmware u using?? i think you need to update your device to new Firmware.
This may be a later answer but here:
The camera shutter sound's volume is controlled by the MEDIA VOLUME.
The reason why it still goes off when you set the phone to silent mode is that Silent Mode only sets Notification and Ringer volume to 0, not media volume.
You'll have to adjust media volume in the settings yourself, as it stays up even in silent mode. If you're unsure, media volume is the volume for games or apps.

LOL.
I know one: Japan! Can't silence the cameras on DSIs or 3DSs. =)) Never occurred to me that the people in this thread could be attempting that for `illegal` reasons.
Just so I can get out of any potential legal mess, I just discovered this while messing with my phone. I was actually looking for the sound.

That's so weird; none of the cameras I've owned have made any sound (they've been practically silent), but every phone I've owned has had a loud, artificial camera shutter sound. Do other countries require normally quiet cameras to add an artificial sound when taking pics?

It has to do something with preventing stalking and secretly taking photos.
All I have to do is turn the Volume down to nothing before I launch the camera app... I haven't done anything to mod it either, it's pretty much stock.
no camera artificial shutter sounds for me if the phone is on silent, and i am on an unrooted phone on 2.3.6. and no need for me to turn the media volume down. am i the only one?
Kind of reminds me back during "the space race"....NASA was all proud of itself
after spending (probably) millions of dollars to develop an ink pen that would write in zero gravity. Reporters asked a (then) Soviet (don't remember if it was an engineer or who) what they thought of this brilliant achievement by the Americans to develop an INK pen that works in zero gravity. The Soviet just shrugged and said...so, we just use pencil.
Same here...a somewhat simple idea of silencing the camera sound doesn't need to have a hack for the software, just turn down the speaker before launching the camera....BRILLIANT!
Confirmed. No camera sound with media volume 0. I'm using rooted stock ROM 2.3.6 KL3.
Thanks muchly for the tip!!!

[Q] Sony SBH20 vs Sony MW1

My gf is in Germany right now and shee's planning on buying me some headphones.
I wanted the Sone MW1, but I saw that a "new" model came out, the SBH20 and wanted to ask which one you think is better?
Also, where can she get them? She is currently in Mainz and she's planning on buying the from amazon.de
PS: It will be great if you could make some suggestions on bluetooth headsets.
Thanks in advance.
I'd say go for SBH20. It's newer, supports latest AD2P and most importantly has NFC support so you don't have to pair your device with it - just tap your phone. I'm not sure SBH20 is out yet though...

just bought sdh20 just now. true multipoint. the previous bluetooth i had all only support music in multipoint. this one support phone in multipoint. the problem is, i can't really select music source. apparently the music source will be randomize between device.
There's an SBH50 on the way soon.

That's a disheartening step backwards. I am looking to upgrade my dead MW600 which makes selecting music source easy. Just press and hold play and then the icons for FM and all 3 paired music devices comes up, just slide the volume selector to pick one. But I don't think what I am talking about is multipoint in the way you mean. Just selector for one A2DP and one HFP at a time.

to select music source, use your device (phone) not the bluetooth. just select media on one and deselect media on the other.
one plus point is the volume button, unlike the stupid volume slider on MW600, this button really works when you need it, and won't act like it being press if it's touching your shirt.
of course beside the stupid volume slide on MW600, MW600 won hands down. but i rather have less feature than non working/hard to use volume control when i really need to adjust the volume, or a volume control that has mind on its own when touching anything.

True the volume slider is a bit of a nightmare even after I mastered it. I just wish Sony would hurry the hell up with their headset releases. I've been waiting for the SBH50 to drop for months and now I just discovered the SBH52. I was fine waiting but now my MW600 won't turn on I need a replacement soon and it feels as if Sony is never releasing the SBH50 or 52.

Is it though? I'm looking and I sure as hell can't seem to find it for sale anywhere.I found mention of it in the UK Sony web store sold in limited amounts, but I haven't seen hide nor hair stateside.
EDIT: Okay I did mind to find it but not from any legit looking stores. Two random stores I have never heard of. But they both have decent reseller ratings so maybe I will try them. I haven't used a generic ecommerce site in years. There is a 3rd part seller on Amazon but they are charging 90$. Is it normal for Sony to not have any top tier distribution channels?
Hmm found a UK site that says the 52 will be out in september. I wonder if the UK version will be any different, maybe I'll just import it.

[Q] Beats Audio

I'm planning on getting the HTC One, and a major problem I found with my last device was that Beats earphones with ControlTalk didn't seem to work properly, more specifically the mic and the volume toggle buttons served no function whatsoever.
So my question is, does control talk work on the HTC One? And is there any additional feature that comes with the HTC One that works exclusively with Beats devices, such as the device recognizing that a Beats device has been plugged in? (Obviously im asking because it comes with beats audio).
Thanks in advance

and that would mean only the center button works, not the up and down volume buttons right? If i remember correctly, that's the deal with every android phone right? They're just not made to use 3 button controls.

Yea the mics ok and the button for pausing music, not sure about answering calls with it though, i find myself shouting when i use headphones for talking, and i get a bit conscious about it. I know how stupid people look when shouting to themselves on trains etc, i don't want to be that person
i doubt there is anything specific for beats device
those 3 buttons only work if its designed to work on android device, otherwise only the center button would work.
If the mic and the inline control is designed for iPhone/iPhone compatible, then the volume control would not work on any android device due to the difference in wiring in the control.
There is also a problem with HTC devices that are jelly bean or above, google now will take over the long press function no matter what app you use, and double click would call the last person you dialed no matter what unless you install "headset button control" from market. The developer of that app included a fix for HTC device to work around the double click issue, but unfortunately that app doesn't work very well with the stock music app on the HTC One. Most of the command you make using the control will be ignored due to a change in the stock music app, and the developer said its a known issue with the HTC One stock music app, and currently there is no way to fix it. He recommend those have this problem to switch to other music player.

I just want the mic to work, regardless if i use it for calls. Cause in my opinion it just feels as though the earphones aren't being used to their full capability, they come with a mic...so there shouldn't be a reason for compromise. Beats aren't cheap, and id rather not have limited functionality cause because my phone doesn't support them.
All in all, when im listening to music and a call comes, its really annoying having to pause the music, take out the earphones, THEN answer the call. And if for some reason you forget to pause the music before taking out the earphones, the speakers will start blasting the music after the calls over, which is much more embarrassing.

One button is still better than no buttons on my current phone, and the fact that the mic will work, is the most important part for me. So as long as the mic works, and even just one button works, its worthwhile. I just feel as though im getting a combo, with the One and beats earphones, i just get a genuine feel that im using earphones that are made for this device, instead of the ill compatibility with my current phone.
As for the problem with HTC devices, i dont see that to be much of an issue, as Sense isn't that appealing to me and i REALLY like personalizing my phone (i.e. different launchers, music players, and even custom roms when the time comes) so i probably will download my own music player within a few days of getting the phone.
I know this might go a bit off topic, but essentially i need to choose between the One and the S4, and the tipping point for me is the beats audio on the One. Also, i think hardware's more important for me as i like customizing my phone anyways.
Theres just one question i have left, that needs a slight explanation. So i live in Canada, and im currently with Bell, but most of my contract is left so i cant get a new phone. My friend, whose done is contract and is happy with his current phone, is willing to upgrade to a new phone and give the new device to me, while he keeps his old phone. Like i said i need to decide between the S4 or One...or any other device but i believe those are the top 2. And the problem is, hes currently on Rogers, and the phones going to be locked, and im more than confident that these providers are not willing to unlock the phone for me. So the question is, which device do you think there will be an unlock for first, letting me use it with my provider? Im not into paid unlocking as i believe it is not currently illegal and sketchy, so which device do you think will get it first, free of cost?

When a call comes through, the music pauses automatically. I'm sure someone can map the buttons on the beats headphones to answer calls etc, if they don't work already.

[Q]Picking back mic instead front one

hey guys, i was wondering if there is a possibility to hack my phone, so my Moto X use the back mic instead the front one?
The reason im asking if someone can help me its because my front mic its totally dead, and thats not the worst part, i went with a dude he say he can fix it, but instead he just stock two of the screws, now, i dont know what to do, and i realize that the back microphone works well, so i was wondering if there is some kind of hack, so the Moto X detects the back mic as the front one, hope you can help me, and sorry for my bad english.
- You sure the front mic is really dead? I didn't understand what you said you tried, but sometimes if people can't hear you the mic might just be clogged and you could try cleaning it, with a swab or compressed air or something.
- You can always fall back on using a headset with a mic, Bluetooth or wired. You could also try speakerphone.
- As for your original question, you might be in luck. Looks like there's a recording app in the play store that claims to be able to pick between front and back mics. The description says:
★ Selectable microphone (front or back/rear)
I haven't tried it myself but you could give it a try. It is a voice recording app, so unless you're really lucky choosing the back mic in the app probably won't carry over to regular calling, but you never know till you try. Try putting the app in the background without closing it, and if that works you can check what happens when you close it.
If that doesn't work don't lose hope. You can try contacting the developer and explaining your situation. He/she/they might be able to help you out.

Yep in fact I already try the front mic and the only thing I get from it, is noise, about the app works great but it's not permanent it's just for sound recording, what I want, it's a way to make the phone believe back mic it's front one, so I can use touchless commands again.

- Well maybe it's not totally dead, just sick. What is it that you tried? Because if you google around you'll find people have had success cleaning defective mics with toothbrushes, pins, etc. just do it carefully.

- Yeah guess there's a built in option that devs can use in their apps to change audio source (link below). But it looks like it only works within that app. And unfortunately there doesn't seem to be an easy way to trigger the change for entire system.
- That said, it might be possible with root access. The method that comes to mind is using Xposed. I'd suggest putting in a request over at the Xposed section (link below). Looks like someone else had the same idea on reddit (link below).

[Q] Headphone 3 button controls not working

Hey,
I have been using my B&W P5's with 3 button control and mic with my Nexus 4 quite happily until i upgraded to the Z3c, however, now the volume controls don't work and the middle button only raises the volume, does anyone know if its possible to fix this, or even to reconfigure the middle button to skip instead of just raise the volume?
I don't hold out much hope in getting the volume controls to work. I've tried a couple of apps (Headset Button Controller) that claim to do this but no luck so far.
I have a similar issue. I've been using a Samsung headset similar to the one that comes with the Galaxy S4, with a three button configuration. The volume buttons actually work, but the play/pause button only raises the volume like with yours.
I have never managed to get volume control working with any android phone I've ever had. Really sad and quite stupid if you ask me. Some headphones that have apps obviously allow it, but using those third party apps has never worked for me.
Sent from my D5833 using Tapatalk
Will listen in here, since I to have a three button headset that doesn't work. And the one I have from LG G2 turns up the volume with the middle button as well. And one tried the Sony headset on the Play Store?
Sent from my D5803 using XDA Free mobile app
All my headphones with 3-button controls that are made for Android work as expected so far with the Z3C - with the HTC RC E240 giving the best quality to price ratio.
You can use the Sony Smart Key app to re-map the middle button. If all three buttons actually register presses in apps like JAYS Headset Control or Headset Button Controller, you should be able to re-map the volume keys too with those apps.
Of course no 'Made for iPhone' branded ones will typically work, as the volume controls feature patented Apple tech and custom wiring. Presses of the volume buttons will just not register at all, and can't therefore be re-mapped.
Any Bluetooth headset controls should work fine with everything.
I have the exact same headphones as you. I'm super disappointed the controls don't work. I tested and the microphone works but controls are the same as yours.

Sound is excellent, too!

These look quite interesting, do you need to use any other software or do they just "work" with the Sony Walkman player?
Also how do the buttons map to the functions? Does the middle button do all of the Pause / Skip Title, receive / end call functions whilst the buttons that look to have track skips icons actually do volume instead?

It's exactly like that
This headset works out of the box, doesn't need any 3rd party app.

Thanks XQC, just bought a set
For anyone in the UK, I can confirm that the HTC RC E242's sold by Amazon UK themselves (they show as enhanced in the extra detail towards the bottom of the page) have track skip buttons that actually control the phone's volume.
Just wanted to say thx received my HTC e242 headset today and it works great. It's dazzling how these manufacturers don't use the same standard for such things...
Xiaomi Piston 2 controls working fine with walkman/poweramp :good:

I actually prefer the HTC RC E240 ones, since they don't have the HTC logo on them. Sound quality & isolation is indeed very impressive for the price. These are the ones I keep returning to for daily use ...

Hi, just wondering if the E240 works fine out of the box as well. Or there was some tweaks for the updated E242 to let them work?

No tweaks, they've always just worked OOB.
Alternative
Might not be the perfect solution but it's an alternative . Since I was really missing the three button control I decided to try it this way.
There are small bluetooth controls that Sony's brought out that do the job and depending on wich one you might get it has even more functionalities.
I got the SBH20 ( just google it ) for 20€ in Germany and am now able to use whatever headphones I want - Best solution for me seeing as I was very pleased with the Sennheiser headphones I had and didn't really want to change.
Thought I'd share it - maybe it'd suit you to
Hi guys I'm using the "Nocs NS500 ALUMINUM (ANDROID)", the website of Nocs says: "Sony Xperia Z1/Z2/Z3 - No support for 3-button remotes with 4 poles." It's possible to change vol. and sometimes if i fast push the middle button it skips to the next title. At my old HTC One X the right and left buttons changed the title and the middle one pause/play.
Im using PowerAmp and tried Sony Smartkey but it didn't worked. Is there any solution that the remote will work like on HTC or do u know other tools to try out?
Edit: Or is there a way to turn of the remote?
i am using sony mh1 with ec250 adapter it works fine
