Three lock yes or no? - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I'm gonna buy one of these and the three locked variant is cheaper. Does three not allow boot loader unlocking, as they did with their xperia T?

It is pot luck.... I am on three, I had a swap out due to dead screen pixels original had bootloader unlock allowed no, yet this current one has unlock bootloader allowed yes.
So you might be able but until you get device you won't know.
It is certainly sim locked
Hope this helps

Wow, so I take a gamble I think, afterall even if I get an unlocked one as I'm buying used it could have just been unlocked at the shop no difference at all between the two handsets? Except what counts?

you can try "cellunlocker.net" ,or take it to your local phone store, they can unlock it

Is the bootloader unlockable? Have you tried creating an FTF using _Flashtool? I wonder if it'll work on a c6602

unlocking became illegal in the US, right? The phone is officially announced but not out yet. I really want to use it on at&t, don't want to carry 2 phones when I go out.

Yes, I knew some sellers on eBay offer unlocking service. I am just afraid that unlocking my phone will break the law.

Did you buy the phone outright from a Sony store? If so, go ahead and get an unlock code for it. According to most places reporting on the ban that I've looked at, it's only subsidised handsets that are covered under this downright stupid piece of legislation

I got this phone for free like 3-4 weeks ago on a sony experience conference. It was given to us as a display to introduce this cool thing to t-mobile customers. having one of the latest smartphone without the service would be useless. I just want to enjoy this phone under at&t service. oh man!

I think at&t and t-mobile require a minimum period before they can give you an unlock code.

Just have someone with T-mobile call t-mobile and get an unlock code. They do not require a minimum period. It only takes about 2 weeks for them to process it. I have done it many times with phones. That said, I am almost certain that this phone only works on T-mobile's bands, but I could be wrong. But it is branded for T-mobile. If you wanted one for AT&T, you should try selling the one you have and ordering an international version.

The phone is actually out today. I will try to ask tmobile to get the unlock code probably next week. As I know there is a requirement to submit an unlocking request. The phone need to be used on a prepaid number, which I have, more than 40 days.
International version doesn't support US LTE at all unless there will be C6606 for international.

Will there ever be a bootloader unlocker for permenantly locked Xperia Z???

Coming from HTC Desire HD, I was thrilled when I laid my hands on the Sony Xperia Z. But when I played around and wanted to tinker, I was utterly disappointed that my Xperia bootlaoder has a permanently locked bootloader. To my knowledge and spending hours on the net trying to figure out that there are no free or paid ways to get it unlocked I feel really disappointed that this powerful beast cannot be unlocked to run custom roms.
Thinking of selling my Xperia Z but it is such and elegant device. I wonder whether any developers are working on a solution for this or weather theres any prospect of finding a solution.

What on earth are you on about, the Sony XZ is one of the ONLY phones you can get permanently UNLOCKED, you simply go to the Sony site and you sign away your warranty and bam in return you get a bootloader that is permanently unlocked that you "officially" cannot re lock.
I think OP means carrier branded phones that come with an unlockable bootloader. Even Sony can't unlock such devices.

Some phones (usually carrier subsidised handsets) have non unlockable bootloaders.
The OP is asking if anyone is working on a way to bypass that restriction.

It's simple to understand, if your Phone comes from a carrier then there's a 99% chance the bootloader can't be unlocked. I've SIM unlocked mine but the bootloader is a no go.

I don't have a z but I remember my xperia arc had same bootloader problem. To fix it you paid for a program (setool) or something...it was like a test point and you had to plug it into computer while holding tweezers to the SIM slot. Maybe someone can get that to work with the z?

The only problem with XZ is that its sealed to ensure its water resistant and theres no way you can get access to tinker with internals
My question to developer community is...Is it a no go forever or will someone at some point invest their precious time and energy on developing an unlock solution or should i get rid of this permanently locked XZ? Coming from HTC, I have little or less experience with Sony. Has it been an issue before eg Xperia series and some where down the line, developers at XDA found a solution? If so i want to wait. XZ is damn good phone and i really love it!!
There are some workaround for it to unlock at the Sony Ericsson Xperia x10 forum, and there were some discussion in the qna thread about this. Better u check it out.

[Q] Network locked?

Looking to get myself a Sony Xperia Z at the shops tomorrow.
I've found one thats locked to the 3 network (UK).
Just wanted to check that it should be simple anouph to unlock it to any network
Thanks
Ben
You will be able to buy an unlock code to network unlock it.
However, as it is a carrier branded handset, the bootloader will be permanently locked, which means you will be unable to flash CM/PAC/AOSP based roms. I don't know if that's important to you or not, but you should be aware of that.

Just a word of caution. I tried to have mine unlocked from 3 and they point blank refused. High street shops won't touch it either. I had to do some dodgy dealings to get mine unlocked.
But yes it will be bootloader locked whatever you do.

Dodgy dealings? There are many unlocking services online (on eBay especially) that will send an unlock code for a fee. Nothing dodgy about that.

Bootloader

Hello,I bought an Xperia Z online. The phone is sim unlocked but bootloader can't be unlocked.I believe the phone was bought originally from 3 UK as it's shown on boot.To whom do I need to talk so I can unlock it? Thanks
Sent from my C6603 using xda app-developers app
It's permanently locked. I've never heard of anybody that has got Sony to change a non-unlockable bootloader to an unlockable one. I'm not even sure the local service centres even have the facility to do so.
You can try contacting Sony directly, but be prepared to be disappointed.

Unlock bootloader not possible?

I wanted to unlock bootloader and therefore checked the root settings. It says that unlock is not allowed. Is that because I bought it over network provider or can I simply ignore it? Is everyone of you able to unlock it?

This has been covered a few times. This means that your carrier has blocked unlocking of the bootloader, so you will NEVER be able to unlock it. There is no way around this.

Unlocking Bootlader will not Unlock SIM Carrier. To unlock SIM Carrier you have to pay for it.

Actually I did not say any words of unlocking SIM. Talking about bootloader... there is a tool called SETool2. With that it is possible to unlock phones that aren't unlockable. The phone needs to be put into test point mode connecting some pins on the board.
Just wanted to know is anybody has experiences with that.
Ps. .. And in most cases when unlocking the phone the SIM lock vanishes too
