Hi,
I have recently bought a MotoX Sprint XT1056 not developer ed. I have unlocked the phone using this guide from on youtube watch?v=sw675ipX-ds
It is unlocked now and I can detect the network operators available but cant register to any. There is a red triangle with a white + on the celular signal icon. The sim I am using was tested on an iPhone 5 and works, using an micro sim adaptor it works on my S4. The sim is cut, however using a proper nano sim it still says sim error.
I would really like to use the MotoX I think it is a really solid phone and feels good at hand, what could the issue be??
You have unlocked bootloader of your phone, that does nothing with sim lock. Sprint devices are locked so you should contact them before you can use them in other networks
I have looked around the forum and other sites. Is sprint moto x a gsm phone or cdma? Because I can detect gsm networks. But cellunlocker says my phone is not gsm. Anyone can confirm it?

Sprint and Verizon use CDMA on their networks for Voice and 3G data, however they include GSM bands for "global roaming capabilities" and also support LTE.
Sprint ships their phones with the GSM side sim locked. Verizon's X is shipped Sim UNLOCKED. (this is separate from locked/unlocked bootloader).
There are a few threads I've seen about people trying to use Sprint Moto X with the SIM of a GSM carrier and running into difficulties due to the SIM Lock. I haven't seen any "this is how I sim unlocked my Sprint Moto X and got it working on a GSM carrier" type posts. I've seen a few suggestions of "call sprint to try and unlock." This might work, but it might not. Some carriers have rules around sim unlocking... (must be current customer, billing must be current, have to be customer for xxx days, etc).
How to get the unlock window to pop out? Inserting a foreign sim doesnt seem to make it work.

Can D3 and activate on pageplus?? and where can i get the phone with no contract?
i think verizon offers $459 and amazon offers $549~ but how can i buy the phone with $459 price?
and can i return it if i cant get activated on pageplus
You need a verizon account to purchase the phone, or find a friend that does. The d3 should work on pageplus as its not a new 4glte device that requires a sim to activate, uses an old school *228 activation

what does that mean??
If I buy the phone from Amazon wireless will it be unlocked, that is, can it work anywhere in the world on any GSM provider's SIM?
A proper answer would be much appreciated.
I seriously wanna buy this phone and I am willing to pay the $550 price at Amazon wireless, if and only if, the phone is unlocked.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the D3 isn't a GSM phone. I'm pretty sure its only a global cdma

The Droid 3 is a GSM and CDMA handset, it is mentioned in the verizon manual for this handset that a sim card can be inserted, currently it is suspected however that this is sim locked.
http://cache.vzw.com/multimedia/mim/mot_droid3/droid3.pdf
Go to the Global Phone section in this PDF and it is mentioned
It is a global phone that supports GSM networks. Arguing over it won't help us much. What will help is an answer to which version of the phone is unlocked for all GSM networks.
Its is a GSM global phone, includes a Verizon SIM that is locked. Verizon customers in good standing can get the phone unlocked with a call to Verizon Global support.

Hmmm....yes, but the question here is whether the phones with no contract are also SIM locked or not.
hi guys, can anyone answer my question
So, here's the response I got from the Amazonwireless guys:
{I'm very sorry but the replacement phones (phone only no service) on Amazonwireless are locked to the carriers. You would need to find an unlocked phone.
There are basically two types of unlocked phones. CDMA Unlocked and GSM Unlocked.
An Unlocked CDMA phone will basically work with carriers like Verizon, Alltel, and Sprint. Unlocked GSM phones work with carriers such as AT&T and T-Mobile.
Unlocked cell phones are designed to work with any carrier that uses SIM cards. Some advanced features may not work depending on the carrier you are using. I would recommend contacting the carrier you are going to be using to ask if the phone you are interested in will work with their network, and if there are any features that you would not be able to use.
If you would like to shop for an unlocked cell phone please visit Amazon.com using the link below

I hope this information helps. We look forward to seeing you again soon.}
Thomaslau it means that this phone still needs to be activated using *228 which pageplus accepts. 4gLTE phones do not use *228, they use a sim card to activate

so it will works???
What my understanding is with CDMA is that it's ALWAYS unlocked. The problem lies with carriers not allowing foreign ECID/IMEI's on their network database which allows the phones to work.
Should work flawless

ok, now i got my droid 3, but i struck at the activation menu, the one with the android robot. what should i do to activate my phone on pageplus?? do i need to activate my phone on verizon then pageplus?
I thought with pageplus you call them, give them the esn from the back of the phone, starts with a000000, then dial *228 when they tell you to

thx, i will try it
Moto X from the first sale arrived today... 32GB T-Mobile (not developer version). Right now we are on Verizon so don't have an alternate SIM card to pop-in and test and it's not currently connected to any mobile plan. #06# doesn't work at all. In the "About Phone" in settings I can see the 15 digit IMEI. A quick check on aio wireless showed it would work only with the 3G even though they do offer 4G LTE. A chat with their support staff indicated it was locked SIM to T-Mobile. Going to www.cellunlocker.net and putting in the info brought up that it was locked to T-Mobile.
Bummer... did we just get unlucky, or are others finding it locked as well?
I bought a T-Mobile one. Got it on Tuesday and popped my AT&T sim card in and voilá. It works. No sim unlock required.

If it worked at all instead of requesting you enter a code then it isn't locked.
Did you ever determine if the device did work on Aio?
I purchased the Moto X Developer Edition (GSM) after confirming with Motorola that is was unlocked and could be used internationally with local SIMs (not AT&T or T-Mobile. I am now abroad and the phone shows "No Service - Selected Network Unavailable". I confirmed that the network uses supported bands.
How can I unlock this phone for international use? It was purchased directly from Motorola and after spending over 6 hours (mostly on hold) trying to get resolution, they suggested I post here.
All help is welcome.
Thanks
It is unlocked but you probably need to enter the correct APN for your provider.

The APNs are correct but it doesn't work. I can't even make outgoing 2G calls. No network recognition. The SIM works in an iPhone 5.

So how do I SIM unlock this phone if it isn't attached to a specific network (can be either AT&T or T-Mobile)?
Developer editions are unlocked. Can you confirm your software version?
Did try selecting 2g under network mode?

Motorola did tell me it was unlocked before my order but in fact it is not and now motorola tech support says it can't help me. 2g doesn't work either.
Where are u trying to use it? Make sure Network Mode is Auto, do you see providers under Network Operators ?
If it was locked it would ask for you to enter the unlock code, so it's not locked. Perhaps the international radios are not functional properly.
I am looking at a Sprint Moto X that is used and has a clean ESN. They don't include a SIM card. I was wondering how hard is that to actually get from Sprint and is there a cost? If it's too much then it's not worth it may be better for me to buy new.
Thanks.
First, this should be in Q&A. Could a mod please move it?
Second, Sprint Moto Xs are SIM-locked, so they will not work with Verizon, Tmobile, etc. They can be unlocked for International SIMs only by calling Sprint and asking (I believe this requires that the phone be activated on Sprint for at least 30 days, and the account be in good standing).

First this belongs in Q and A section. Second, Sprint doesnt even use Sim cards, I have Sprint Moto X and the only reason there is a sim card in there is for the phone to stop telling you "NO SIM" its basically a place holder. and the only way they will give you one if activate or buy a phone from them
Sorry for posting in the wrong place. I thought Sprint does use the SIM for LTE purposes. I know their voice/3g is CDMA which does not use a sim.

Nope, Sprint does not use SIMs at all since they are CDMA. I don't know the specifics, their spectrum can only be used with Sprint phones or approved roaming carrier devices.
In the case of the Moto X, the SIM card is used only for International GSM networks. Most Sprint phones don't even have SIM card slots..

Thinking of getting the Moto X pure edition. For Verizon. Is this an unlock version like dev version of the phone? and theres a selection for unlock sim choice. Does that mean I can take it to any carrier? Thanks for any reply in advance.
1. It is carrier unlocked, but not boot loader unlocked. You can request a code from moto for that.
2. When I ordered my pure edition, the only option I saw was a T-Mobile Sim, though I've heard others say they got a different Sims installed.
3. I don't know how many carriers the PE works on, but it's more than just T-Mobile. And as for Verizon, I don't know, sorry.

I would ask someone who has Verizon to let you use their SIM card to see what service you get. Band 4 is VZW's "XLTE" band, which the PE supports. You won't get band 13, since the PE lacks that hardware. You might be able to pick band 4 though.
Unlikely that Verizon would activate a Pure on their network, so while you might get some LTE data you'll never have voice calling.

why does it have to be on Verizon?
I'm using my Pure Edition (XT1095) with Straight Talk (AT&T compatible SIM) with no issues and it gets about 15-20 MBs down with LTE within a 60-70 mile radius for me. I get good coverage and not have to deal with BS contracts.

This.
Verizon's network isn't like GSM networks where you can just pop your SIM in practically any phone and be done with it. They have to physically activate the phone on their network, and they won't if it's not their device. Your options are to either get a Verizon branded Moto X, or use the Pure on AT&T, TMo, or one of the many GSM MVNOs.
