saving apps to sdcard - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, so far I am a little disappointed in CyanogenMod for 10.1 for the nook HD. The main reason I rooted the nook was so I could save apps to my SD card (8gb internal doesn't cut it). Also I have been having problems with the tablet now getting stuck in a lock screen cycle. Does anyone know how to move apps to the SD card, or why I get stuck in the lock screen cycle?

Apps2sd is not supported in CM10.1 on the HD/HD+. But you can go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and flash my SDswap zip for official CM10.1 and it will make it so you can have your media files on external SD by default. That will give you more room.
And the lock screen issue is probably the magnet in your case. There is a bug in CM10.1 where you must open the cover twice before the unlock will work.

Man that's disappointing. I have two users are can't fit all my apps in. Why does Cm10 not support apps2sd? I feel like that should be a standard thing.

No, CM10 or CM11 don't either. To get more room for apps, move some of your media files to external SD. That is why I suggested the swap. Media files and apps share the same limited space on emmc. And for the 8GB HD that can be tight.
And the reason apps2sd is not supported is the default sdcard (internal) is emulated and is actually a part of /data on internal. That is why it shares the same free space as apps. So it would not free any space to put apps on the emulated SD.

Problem is I don't really have any media. Its pretty much all apps. Doesn't look like the are any nook HD roms out there at all, let alone support app2sd

You have 5GB of apps installed? That's how much space you should have with no media files. You could have some big game apps that store their game data on the internal SD. Those count as media files and can be moved to external SD with the swap.

Looks like I have to be rooted to install your file. Is that true? I haven't rooted anything since, I think it was a Samsung Hero.

Well, then yes, you have to be running CM to install that file. But I have a version for stock that does not require you to be rooted. Go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature.

tabletUI gone
Since 4.2.2 doesn't have a separate tabletui mode anymore, does anyone know how to move the status bar from top to bottom? having it on top is a waste of desktop space and I would like to move it if possible.

It still causes a boot-image loop when I try to boot off the SD with the zip installed. I can't try the internal emmc at the moment due to my nook being used and I can't risk breaking any apps.

I did it internally on an EMMC burn and it works very well.
I've attached some screenshots of the tablet bar in case anyone was curious. Got my Nook yesterday BTW and I must say CM10.1 is dang fine.

All of a sudden today, 4 different app won't work. When I try to uninstall then reinstall it say there's not enough room and that I need to make space, I know that's not the problem cause I have more than enough room, and it doesn't matter how much more room I make. I've cleared dalvik cache and fixed permissions but no change. Is there anything I can do? Or do I need to make a new card. I run mine off an SD install by the way.

Did you clear the dalvik, etc using my Alternate CWM for SD? If you used the internal CWM, you cleared dalvik for what you have on internal memory.

What size SD are you using. And what is the brand and class. I know in CM10 if it did not like how your SD was responding, it would mount some of the SD as read only. If that happened to /data, that would make apps not work right and not install properly.
Go to /data with your root file manager and see if you can create a file there.

[Q] USB drive and HD+ rooted

Apologies if this is a stupid question. I have a rooted HD+ with stock. If buy one of these (USB gender changer) can I then mount external USB drives? This is not a deal breaker or crucial just a matter of curiosity.

Thanks I suspected as much.
If you don't want to change your Nook you could setup VeryGreen's development SDcard which does not change the Nook but also gives you access to the cool features. I am doing that running stock rooted and booting to the SD when I need a feature that isn't available on the Nook software.

CM 11.0 for Atrix hd (do we still have Root? )

Guys I'm currently running CM 10.2 and I'm dying to try CM 11. However, I've got a few questions.. Am I able to have the phone rooted if I install the latest update? Will I be able to restore the applications stored on my SD card (apk files). Will my phone play the music stored on my SD card? Please let me know. I have read the whole thread but I'm not sure yet. Thanks in advance

Sure
CM11 currently have problems with video playback (for example, youtube).
Video playback is fixed on [4.4]AOSP KitKat.
Great! So that means I just need to flash the SU file along with the gapps and roms in the installation?

[Q] Run stock from SD

I've searched in the forum and couldn't find the answer to this question.

You do it very much like you did when you put CM on internal, but use the files from that thread.
Use your CM to download the special stock ovation zip from his thread to your internal sdcard. Then download the special ovation image from his thread and burn it to the SD you are going to use. Boot to the new SD and CWM will come up and use that to flash the zip you downloaded to your internal sdcard. You may have to look in the 0 folder there for the zip. You should be able to follow his thread from there.

Anyway to root without a 4gb SD card?

I just have a 2gb card at the moment and cant find my bigger ones.

Yes, go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and follow the instructions in item 1a. You can make a CWM card from any size SD including that 2 GB card you have. Then use that to root.

Oh, you did not mean you wanted to root, you meant installing CM. They are not the same thing. Did you use the correct version of gapps for CM12? They must match.
Edit: And don't post so many questions asking the same thing on so many different threads. It gets confusing.
