Nooby needs help with reseting HTC one to stock - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Hi guys, stupid as I am, i tried to root my HTC one, and failed. Somehow I could not install the root and everything just got messed up. I posted it in the sprint HTC one section, although mine is bought in Norway.
Alright, my problem is that there has not been released a RUU for my version, I belive. And then I have no idea how to do it. I would highly appreciate any help I can get. I have no idea how often I'll be checking in on this forum, but you can contact me on skype if you're willing to help !
although I'll be following this thread, so any responses would be read.
Skype: Swatchi10
Thanks !

You better post this in the M7 thread. I don't know how much you messed up, maybe the ruu is not necessary, but as a last resource, taking for granted that your phone is a GSM model you can get s-off than change your CID and flash an unlocked or developer edition ruu.

Tell me your version you have and what method you used to root. You can hangout me at [email protected]

Well, Can you somehow help me ? I'm new to this. When i was going to root it, everything worked, I used the TWRP "root" or whatever, and when I was going to install the root, the touch function didn't work in the "settings" of TWRP.

Than I have an idea of what might have happened. Your TWRP version was outdated, and if you were on 4.3 or 4.4 your touch won't wotk in recovery. Now you just need to find the latest version and flash it

We can talk here. It's a pretty simple procedure. Copy this file to your ADB folder(the one you used to unlock your bootloader) http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/m7/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img
Make sure fastboot is unchecked in power options and turn phone completely off
Boot into bootloader than Fastboot
From fastboot.
Than open command prompt in this folder and type:
"fastboot erase cache"
From fastboot. Use command "fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img"

You can't update via OTA if you have a custom recovery and rom, you need to go back to stock if you want to do so
I agree with the first reply. Just return it. I completely bricked my first One and took it back to Best Buy. They didn't even turn it on. They just made sure there wasn't a rock in there instead of the phone. LOL

Gotcha. Can you just flash the stock ROM from here?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2224752
If not there, copy the RUU and run from inside TWRP?

OK so now I have an OTA update available for my HTC One. When I try to update it takes me to my custom Recovery TWRP. Will this help me to obtain stock status? Also what is the next step after booting into TWRP?? Sorry I am a noob to this but I can hold my own with good instructions. TIA!!

I don't believe the OTA update is going to help you at all. Here's what I would do. The factory RUU (ROM Update Utility) that HTC provides is an executable that you run from your Windows PC (XP preferred). You don't have to load it to the phone - your phone just has to be connected.
A couple questions before we begin:
1 - Which phone did you get? DEV 64 - AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile?
2 - Do you want to save anything on that phone?
If no to 2, just continue. But if you want to save anything you'll need to use either Titanium Backup or Go Backup & Restore Pro (my favorite). Back up to the cloud or copy your backed up items off your phone if you wish to keep them because you're about to wipe it clean.
You can find the RUU for the DEV unit here - http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads. You may need to register at htcdev.com to access this page. But here you'll find a list of downloads - some are CRC (kernel source code) and one is RUU (WWE stands for World Wide Edition). Download that to your PC.
Not sure if this is necessary, but I would boot to recovery and wipe data/factory reset my phone. This will erase anything that you have on it. I'd also wipe the cache and davlik.
Next once the RUU is downloaded and you're sure you've backed up EVERYTHING you want to keep, double click on the RUU. It should be cake from there. It'll restore your One back to factory standards and you should be able to send this puppy back.:highfive:

Also, if you bought the unlocked version from HTC like I did then you're fine with having it factory unlocked with an unlocked bootloader. You don't need to re-lock that.
By the way, here's a graphic of the file you'll want to download and run on your computer when you're ready to restore the phone.

Ok, I don't think so. Sorry. The RUU appears to be for the Dev edition only. That was the mistake I made and I completely hosed my previous phone. I see the one that you bought here: http://shopamerica.htc.com/cell-phones/productdetail.htm?prId=41589
Until HTC releases an RUU for that device we can't go that route.
The only other route would be to flash the stock ROM to your phone at the link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2224752
Follow the instructions. You'll end up adb flashing the stock boot.img and stock recovery back to your phone. Those files are discussed in the first post.
It's a little more work, but this is the kind of stuff that I love staying up late for. Good luck and sorry we couldn't do it with an RUU.
:fingers-crossed:
Let us know how you make out with this.

Installing updates on stock rom with unlocked bootloader and root

So, not 12 hours after getting my HTC one a few months ago, I unlocked the bootloader and rooted. I used this method: http://dottech.org/103429/how-to-ro...ader-and-install-clockworkmod-recovery-guide/
I knew I wouldn't get OTA updates, but figured I could flash updates via stock recovery. Apparently I can't. I get an error every time, so essentially I have no options to update. I have also noticed that there are a few little bugs that are quite annoying. So, my question is: Has anyone managed to either unroot and relock the bootloader in order to install updates? Or is there a method I can use to update my One with the latest HTC provided update? I made no changes to the phone aside from unlocking the bootloader and rooting. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this phone, but as we all know, having the latest update is a huge part of why we make changes to our phone. And with the 4.2.2 update arriving soon, I would really like to have an option of keeping my One always up to date.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yes, after tampering the phone and even flashing the stock recovery gives a red triangle suring flashing ota updates.... I spent 2 days on it...
Get s off.... Flash the appropriate RUU for your phone, and let the OTA install itself by checking software updates in setting- about....
This will definitely work....

Thanks Mathrania, but if you don't mind I have a few questions. 1. Is there any way to get s-off without using an adb shell? If so, can you point me to a link that has the instructions? 2. Where do I find the RUU for m7ul? No idea where to get that. I assume once i find it I can flash it using recovery? Your help appreciated man.

Yes there is, a saw somewhere... But i need to find it.... The title of the thread is s off without pc or something like that.... But i am outside rightnow.. Once i reach my place, i can point that out.... And why not abd????

Boot into bootloader, connect usb cable, slect fastboot..... Now on ur PC, open the folder containing your fastboot files ( hope u have knowledge about that... You can find the fastboot files in the hasoon all in one toolkit as well.... In that folder, Shift + right click... Select open command window here...

well my friend, i tried to find your original RUU, but what I am getting is the link to just an OTA...not the RUU which is required to revert you to stock...anyways..
Did you relock the bootloader??? Relock and try to flash the OTA ...it should work... you can do this while being s-off...no issues...
ALright, so I guess I need to relock the bootloader. I assume this will also mean unrooting? Not entirely sure what the easiest way to relock the bootloader is. Any suggestions?
Now, out of curiosity, is there a root method that I can use after updating that will allow me to continue getting updates without having to go through this every time?

While you are s-off, you can relock you bootloader via a simple command....and to be frank i dont remember it, but you can see that command in S-off Revone Thread...its very simple.....you will have to do that via terminal emulator as you are not an ADB guy ...also unrooting the phone, you can see some vidoe guides out there in the stickies...
but i am not sure, may be relocking itself will take away your root access... just try posting this question in the s-off thread to get an expert answer....
Alright! S-off, bootloader relocked. Gonna try the update. Wish me luck. And thanks so much for your help Math. I'll let everyone know how it went for future reference.

Dammit. Still no luck. I'm getting the same error I used to get even before all this when i try to install an OTA. At first it won't verify the signature, but when i push it via CMW anyway, it starts and hangs on "running bug_fix_1" and that's it. No go. So all, this for nothing. Any chance anyone's come across this issue and has a solution? I'd love to get the update. There are a few bugs that really piss me off.

Edit: just took a peek at it, and it looks like it's mostly patching files in system, rather than flashing an all new system image. But the new version looks like it's "1.08.502.4".
i got a update notice 2 days ago but i already have twrp recovery and couldnt update with that recovery.
My wife's is not unlocked yet hopefully this isn't Att blocking the unlock process. Because the thing is just going to do it probably before I get a chance tonight. But I wouldn't put it past them. according to s-off crew, moonshine is most likely blocked with this OTA. There is a possible workaround and I will be doing the procedure this weekend and posting up a tutorial if it works.
If I am unlocked, rooted and have s-off can i safely take the update? It automatically started downloading on my phone and the only thing I can do to stop it is turn off all data.
A prompt response is highly appreciated, thank you.

Question on the s-off front. My wife had to take the update before I could stop it but she doesn't want s-off anyway. My question is if it is needed for anything I would want to do... Such as running a 4.2.2 Sense 5 port from the htc mini... I have the htc one and I know that there was no real good reason for s-off(i did it anyway of course...) but I also know each phone is a little different. So thus my question... Sorry if this is too noobish...

no. fastboot flash boot boot.img solves all problems. but s-off is non-destructive on the data so if you want to give it a try and report back it would be appreciated. It would save me time this weekend.
But I understand its the wife's. My wife won't let me touch her phones after the first 4 hours....lol

i installed the update and S-Off stayed, however if i try to unlock my bootloader the phone will go into a boot loop.
I unlocked the bootloader, installed cmw in fastboot usb mode, flashed the superuser then relocked the bootloader and everything worked fine. I installed the awesome beats package too without having to unlock the boot loader.

Yes this is a bug with s-off. Not just the aftermarket s-off. This is even happening with factory s-off devices. Not really sure what is causing it. Sometime I will sit down and try to get a dmesg and logcat of it to determine what is going on.

[Q] bootloop/no service Sprint HTC One

Before I did anything I updated to the newest firmware. Then using twrp I created back ups and transfured them to my computer. I flash the Android Rev 4.3 not knowing it was GSM only. The phone never would go past the boot loader. So i restored from my twrp back up. All of my stuff came back but I had no service and after about a min the phone would reboot it self. So i did the factory wipe and have been trying to get a rom to flash since then. I was finally able to get one to load today but i still have the same no service/reboot issue, however now i can't access the menu. When i swipe up it just says HTC till it reboots it self.
I have resorted to using ADB to load roms I have even used super wipe with no changes. I'm out of ideas here.
You need to run an ruu

Yes I know. There is no ruu available for the latest firmware.

Download any RUU and upgrade the firmware manually. There are flashable zips in the general forum I believe.

Do that or install an old RUU and do the OTA upgrade.

Please forgive me as my flashing back to stock experience goes back to my Motorola Photon days. If I soft-bricked my device I would SBF (Motorola's RUU) back. Any version would work. Once I had the device reloaded I would then re-unlock and try again with my favorite choice of ROM.
Honestly at this point what do you have to lose? I would try any and all RUU's to try and un-brick your phone.

A lot.
if you are s-on, flash the 4.3 full firmware http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23159073880933344
if you are s-off, flash the modified firmware http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23159073880933456
Sorry for not replying sooner. I ess able to flash the radio and now have signal. Every thing seems to be good now.

S-OFF gives you access to all partitions on your phone.
One benefit would be you wouldn't have to go thru so much trouble as you have in the past few days. Just run an RUU and done
Oh ok. I think I saw a thread about s off. But Sprint is not supported yet.

Sprint can easily do s_off. I'll see if I can dig up the thread.

All you need is to flash a radio bro. If your phone comes on with no service it's missing a radio at boot. Just go to recovery, hit advanced, hit adb sideload with phone connected open command window with platform tools and type adb sideload (radio name) and hit enter. No parenthesis.

[Q] Possible Brick?

Not sure if i totally hooped, hope not. Any help would be appreciated.
HTC One, Rogers, Flashed Google play edition 4.3 and tried to update 4.4 VIA on the phone, ( I know, not smart)
Don't have a recovery option
Can still use fastboot on the computer and my phone, clueless for commands and would need to be explained to like a toddler
Tampered
Unlocked
M7_UL PVT SHIP S-ON RH
HBOOT-1.44 0000
Fastboot does still work thought this would be helpful..
If any one of you have a possible fix, that would be awesome.
System is wiped, all the cache cleared and whatnot.
Also, here is the getvar.. Considering i see something that says ALL FAILED, doesn't sound so good lmao http://gyazo.com/ca63015a59bb4323e423dca458987553
I read this a few times and not sure what your problem is.
What do you mean by "don't have a recovery option"?
Can you flash recovery using fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img?

Well, i forgot i did my root about 2 months ago, and totally forgot to make a recovery. Thus i have no recovery to just revert back to, which would of solved this problem in the first place
Another update, tried to flash CWM for it, and had this happen. Not sure why, any fixes? http://gyazo.com/dec69f77e68e3001930de84186532a01
Try twrp 2.6.3.0 for a change

Couldn't find file name. Write the correct one and try again

Fixed that, now i get this
.android_secure.img not found. skipping restore of /sdcard/ .android_secure.
Restoring cache...
Restore complete
Not sure where to go from now? Literally lost as i thought that would of fixed my problem... Maybe i need a different recovery?

Tried this, WAY better than CWM. As far as recovery goes, what should i use? I don't have anything to recover to. Is there something that i could use to revert back to stock? Or even install Kit Kat? BIG THANKS AHEAD OF TIME EVERYONE
Another update, i looked through my phone storage and found the ROM that i used to for google play, but it says 'This operation may install incompatible software and render your device unusable' Should i go through with this??? I am not doing anything until i get a response to this
Boot to twrp and then run a command prompt and write
Adb push nameoftherom.zip /data/media/0/
The Rom.zip will be placed then in the root of your sdcard and you 'll be able to flash it. Better transfer a Google edition 4.3 rom if you have already Google edition firmware. Otherwise flash ARHD31 and see if you can get s-off and make things even better

Okay, it was not originally a Google edition, i flashed it to it, and lost the stock firmware. Should i just do what i said in my previous post? I would like the 4.4 anyways
So what happens when you reboot?
Also you should stick with 4.3. 4.4 is giving lots of issues. Won't suggest it unless you are soff
You are S-ON so NO you can't flash 4.4. for now. If you follow my steps you can get your phone back to a working state and then head for s-off which will let you install 4.4 without any issues

Screen basically freezes after the HTC Logo, a blue screen. Will not go any further then that.

Forgot about S-ON. Steps being what you posted earlier?
Once again:
a. Boot into twrp recovery
b.run a command prompt within your fastboot folder
c. Type adb push filename.zip /data/media/0/
d. After its done use twrp to flash that Rom you just transferred and make full wipe.
Phone will boot to that rom and then you decide if you go for s-off or just stay like that
