I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else...
I just saw this on Ebay. I haven't ordered it yet, but it appears to be a generic cable for the Nook HD+. If it's true, maybe we'll finally start getting these cables on the cheap soon.
It's Ebay item number 360832581782. (I would link it myself, but, as a new member, I am not allowed yet.)
In the UK these are now £5 at the official Nook site (along with the covers), has the US site not reduced theirs by now?

Sure, they dropped the price recently, but $15 is still way too much for a USB cable. Those cables are also notoriously flimsy. I'm just glad to see that someone (in China, probably) is finally making an alternative. Once the market is flooded, the price will go down dramatically. I don't want to give B&N any (more) of my money for their proprietary nonsense.
Any brave suck.... I mean volunteers want to try one of these out and get back to us?

I'll pick one up after I get paid on Friday and report back. I need an extra cable, anyway.
Looks like the same item is available on Amazon: Nook HD Charger + Cable Fits HD 7" 9"Models ONLY By Pure Power Adapters ® (I can't link either.) The B&N wbesite still has it for <$13 - cheaper than both the ebay and Amazon knockoff. Paying more for something I can't guarantee will work is not a good idea IMHO.

The issue for me (and many others, I'm sure) is that B&N do not ship outside the UK/US. I could definitely use some eBay trader who ships worldwide...
I'm intrigued for several reasons:
1) "6 YEAR WARRANTY" (?!?)
2) No mention of any electrical specs whatsoever.
3) *Clearly* a third-party creation, I wouldn't be at all surprised if this came out of a Foxcon facility.
I'd advise caution and suggest testing it with something you can afford to lose.
What interests me most is the 30-pin connector. I've been keeping an eye out for a source but it seems to still be too proprietary. Now it looks like there may be a source starting to leak a little.

I wouldn't say buy from this seller, but the cable itself may be fine. It looks to me like besides being unresponsive, and apparently refusing to refund monies, this seller seems to regularly ship the wrong product.
Of the negative reviews for the HD/HD+ (BNTV400/BNTV600) cable, in a one month span, one was a failure to deliver ( I have had issues with the post office loosing a package recently - couldn't even get reimbursed completely, a long painful, and boring story but not at all the sellers fault ) and the other was probably the wrong product.
In the same one month span, I think I counted more positive reviews for the same product. So, I believe that the cable itself is probably fine...
That said, what I want to do is a case mod, or some type of snap on adapter that will hold the connector firmly in place and supply a standard USB port(s)/HUB with passthrough ( I have an HDMI adapter that I want to open and see if I can use for this ) in the bargain.
I am in no hurry however, so I don't know when I will get around to trying to do it...
Hopefully someone can find a cheaper source for this cable, for those of us on super limited income ( my mom bought my nook and hdmi adapter and case... )

I don't know why but my streak won't take charge from either my solar usb charger or my car usb charger. Both have a usb outlet to charge pda's but even though I'm plugging Dell's own cable into them. I'm gutted, especially as I'm getting nowhere near a full day on a full charge. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving the streak.

I bought an iphmoan charger kit from ebay. I think it was linked from modaco, at 1.99 gbp. Was even a local seller...
Bit cheap and cheerful, but it charges fine using the Dell cable, just as fast as the stock wall plug. Haven't tested the car lighter charger yet. But for the price can't argue...

Just had a look at that thanks, it does look the same but i read on that site people saying icrap chargers dont work maybe its the cheap ones that do work
yeah it definitely works, both wallwart and cigarette lighter, very cheap feeling but hey it works
can't believe how some of these ebay sellers work, 1.99 delivered yet the included postage cost 1.79..

thats the one I got, auction ended, but he's relisted them now at the same price, obviously we still need a decent cable,
but it's cheaper to buy a spare usb cable from dell (with 10% discount found on mydellmini ) and one of these than a spare charger set from dell.
Having looked at a number of UK websites, only one said a USB cable came with the charger. I had been planning on buying an OEM 2 amp charger. Then I saw Clove were saying it came with a spare USB cable so the price of £24.99 didn't seem so bad any more. Got it on Friday and, yes, it did have a USB cable in the pack.
Tried it in my car runing Co-Pilot sat nav and my battery indicator showed that the charge was still going up so I am very pleasedwith it.
Only slightly disappointing thing is that the charger has only one output whereas some of the OEM ones have two, one 2 amp and one 1 amp. However, I tried it with my charger splitter and it still showed the charge was going up.
most cheap usb car charges have a screwable top; just take out the glass fuse and replace it with a 2amp/2000mA fuse which you can get at autozone, radio shack, home depot....pretty much anywhere
Really? if i just change the glass fuse i can use any usb car charge?
Is not dangerous for the electric impiant of the car?
No You can't. It is not the fuse that decides how much current the charger can give.
The fuse just protects the charger from blowing if something fails.
The regulator used in the charger sets the charging current.
true you can buy a regulator at radio shack. i've seen the 7805 for about a buck 50.
Ok, tnx guy!

There are generic 2A USB cigarette lighter / car chargers on eBay for a third of the price. Worth trying too
Would you mind posting a pic of the charger?
I just bought Samsungs Car Adapter kit (ECA-P10CBECSTD) from local store, 27.90€.
It comes with cigarette lighter 12/24V usb adapter, 2 Amps 5V output, and a proprietary Samsung Tab usb cable.
A little pricey, ok, but now I have a second usb cable and a car adapter with enough output amps without fuss.

Amazon UK are selling the Samsung car charger for £20.83. Pretty good deal with free delivery.
[edit]
Or there's this one also on Amazon for 99p (+£4.50 delivery!) which apparently can charge the Tab. You still need to add in the cost of the proprietary Samsung USB cable though to match the official car charger features, so not much of a bargain really...

That's all fine and dandy Paul but will an individual be bothered contacting officials just for the sake of a few pounds.
No, what I'm saying is why is it not listed..... and if anyone is considering purchasing one I would recommend they save themselves any issues by first contacting the seller to ascertain if the cable is indeed part of the deal.
If you check the item model number it's listed as a charger, nothing further.

OK well I've just ordered one so we'll soon see . The picture on Amazon looks almost identical to the one on Clove. Here's hoping they're the same otherwise I've bought the world's most expensive charger .
Guys, just so you know, you can get very cheap 2A chargers on ebay. The cable problem is still impossible to solve, but I'm sure Hong Kong people are working on it, so it might be best to wait a month and order a cheap replacement cable, rather then paying ridiculous amount of money for Samsung's original cable.
I ordered one of these a couple weeks ago:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...b43hTuXib7JjWUKJhg%3D&viewitem=#ht_1776wt_959
Came in today, and I swear the sync cable it came with is identical to the one my Tab came with, right down to the Samsung logo.
Car charger itself is a 5.0v/2000mA, looks well built, fused, and comes in a very nice retail package.
Considering the cable alone is $29 from my carrier, it's a hell of a deal. I basically bought a cable for $23 and got a car charger for free.
Hey croak that cellet charger doesnt work. it has the charging symbol crossed out... I guess you need to do usb2usb soldering mod to use any 5v2A charger. I saw the thread on here...

Paul,
Any luck with this item?
First off, I do not have any affiliation with any vendors - whatsoever!
Here's an awesome deal on a highly-rated, 10,000mah battery bank for $29.99/free shipping!
Read about it here
Then go here for info on how to get the deal.
If you want more reviews, go here for reviews on the previous model (essentially the same thing).
I've known about this for a couple of days now, but I just grabbed one, and wanted to share with my fellow forumites.
Hope this helps someone else looking for a battery bank!
I have actually been looking for something like this.. but the price I see is $59.99. Is there a special code I have to use to get the discount and free shipping?
EDIT: oops I didn't read all the way
Yes - you have to go look at the SlickDeals link in my OP.
My smaller power battery bank has been a life-saver so many times in the past six months of ownership. I look forward to getting this one.
Goo deal .. the promo code is only valid from 8pm -11pm EST till Dec 31. Buhch of people say that they run out of the alloted quantities pretty fast, so try to get it as early as you can.

However, the RavPower website states that the pb07 is indeed 10000mAh:
http://www.ravpower.com/ravpower-dy...ones-digital-cameras-tablets-and-e-books.html
Yeah - the Amazon write-up is inaccurate in a number of places - it seems that info from prior models is carried forward. This model uses four Samsung cells that provide 2600mah each.
I'd go with the mfg'ers website and what actual customers say about the battery pack's capacity.
Not that this will make a difference for anyone else but I emailed the seller and they told me this product is not UL certified. Big bummer for me because I'm in the Navy and they require every device that we plug in aboard a ship to be UL certified. This would have been super handy for a deployment as electrical outlets are scarce on the boat. My search continues..

will you provide us with some pics of it next to the nexus 7 by chance (size comparison)?
wavrunrx,
Dude, I would love to, but unlike everyone on this forum right now, I don't yet own an N7. It's at the top of my xMas list and by most accounts I've "been good". So here's hope'in.
The height/width is about the size of a pack of cigs, and it's about 3/4" thick. Rounded edges, hefty, a beautiful piano-black finish, really nice design and comes with a charger, two usb/mini usb cables, and a black velvet storage bag.
If it were white and had an Apple logo on it, it would be $175, easy.
Still don't have an N7 (c'mon Santa! c'mon Santa!, I've been "nice" the whole f**ck'in year!!)...
... but I can report back that this battery pack is awesome. It takes a while to charge-up, but that's expected given it's capacity. I repeatedly put my Galaxy Nexus on it yesterday and it charges super fast and doesn't even break a sweat. Plus I could be charging another phone (or tablet) on the other charging port. Given what I've seen yesterday, this could be my sole energy source for my GNex for the better part of a week without ever being tethered to a wall.
Bookmark: Thanks for Sharing. May look into getting one before the deal expires.

Very nice price indeed, thanks for the quick info. Just curious, how long does it take your unit to charge up?
I got one of these during this deal and I love it. The powerbank was nicely packaged and came with some extra tips for other cellphone models. Even came with an ac plug too which impressed me the most. I love getting products with added accessories that I didn't think would come with. As for the unit, it's compact and stylish and nicely designed. Very portable and lighter and smaller than I anticipated for a 10,000mah charging unit. It's literally small enough to hold in my pocket, but not both my phone and this together. If you carry a pack with you, this would be perfect.
I don't dare to crack open my unit but I read on an Amazon review that the four batteries used is Samsung 18650 power cells which can charge up to 500 or more times. There is also a lit up gauge that lights up to how much power is left in the powerbank. I used this on a short trip last weekend and maybe used this twice and it worked wonderfully. I can see myself using this during future camping trips, outdoor outings and even during emergencies. I love it and I can't stress this enough on having something like this since my phone tends to run out of battery fast during trips since I use my phone a lot during these times. Highly recommend everyone have something like this around.
i just got my unit in the mail today.

right off the bat i can answer these:
"How long did it take to get yours in the mail?"
i live about 2 miles from where it shipped from, and if it wasnt for xmas eve/xmas day, i would have gotten my unit 2 days sooner. shipping would have been overnight, if not for xmas.
"Can you use the nexus at the same time while it's charging?"
unfortunately no. :crying:
when you are charging the unit itself, it shuts down the 2 remaining usb charge ports, until you unplug it from the wall.
**edit
now that i re-read what you asked; yes, you can use your phone/tablet while it is charging from the RAVPower.
the RAVPower just cannot be plugged into the wall at the same time.

whew! At first I was about to cancel my purchase because I thought you couldn't use the nexus while charging from the RAV. That would have been unacceptable. Just a FYI for all you Nook HD/HD+ users. I have had a nightmare trying to find an additional USB charger/AC adapter for my Nook HD+. This seems pretty good, albeit not the real Barnes & Noble cables....but the price isn't as astronomical as other sellers. And it's from Hong Kong, so be prepared for a wait. Feedback seems decent, too.

Exactly what I came here to look for!
Did you order some? Keep us posted!
Yes, I did order when I found this eBay listing recently I'll report back when I get one. Think it was Buy It Now for £4.29 not long ago, the price went up slightly.
Excellent tip - thanks for posting
Mine arrived today, in the UK, after a two week wait.
Initially I was not impressed.
I tried it on 2 HD and 1 HD+ and the charge light stayed on green on all of them. No charging.
Then I plugged it into a Windows PC and nothing happened.
Not good!
But then I got to thinking. The charger I was using was an Anker 40w 5-port fast charger. So I dug out one of the original Nook chargers.
The cable sprang to life. Using the original charger it would charge all the Nooks that I could lay my hands on.
Next I plugged it into an Anker charger again, and it continued to charge correctly.
Next I plugged it into the PC again, and now I can see the Nook content properly.
So, I'm slightly confused as to why it needed to connect to a genuine Nook charger first. But since then it is behaving perfectly.
One slight downside to this one over the original, it is only about a yard long, which seems quite short after using the original cables which are at least one foot longer.
Otherwise this is a good replacement for the original, and I was starting to despair ever seeing a source of these again when B&N pulled the plug on their supply chain last month.
Many thanks for recommending it here!!! I'm going to order a couple more spare cables right now.
Update: I plugged this into a USB3.0 port on the PC, and after a few seconds it is actively charging a Nook HD. Something my old, genuine B&N, cables simply would not do. This looks like a winner.
Still Waiting For My Cable.....

Glad to hear you're pleased with it!
Since my post, the ebay seller had put it up to £6.55 (from £4.29, then £4.99, when I ordered), but they seem to have all sold out. Mine still hasn't appeared yet!! (I'm in the UK too).
Well, I've waited over a month, nothing has arrived, waiting on the seller emailing back as they don't seem to have any more. Disappointed but found this for £5.06 delivered (one left!!) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121501061004?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

^^That should say with £1.99 shipping on top. The ebay prices on each listing seem to change all the time!!
Still waiting on mine! Not impressed with the original seller from post#1 at all. The seller shopinsaving kept stalling, telling me to wait and wait (I bought this nearly 2 months ago now!!). Then asked if I would please close down the ebay Case I'd opened, then they'd post out a replacement (bit dodgy, surely?). I told them, as per ebay rules, I'd close the Case when I received a replacement.
Just as well I wasn't in any hurry!

I am having this very same problem with all three aftermarket cables I purchased but they do not even work with the original NOOK charger or allow me to connect to a PC.
What causes this, voltage drop across an inferior cable?

Voltage drop is negligible unless the cable is really, really long or the wires inside it too thin.
My guess would be that the connector is wrong and doesn't really fit.
Sorry for the delay replying. I have now got three of these cables and they have some, let's say, quirks.
First off the charging issue appears on my three to be caused by a failure to make good contact at one end of the connector.
I have discovered that these connectors come apart fairly easily. Even a slight creak whilst attempting to connect up with the socket can shift the connector back a fraction of a mill in the housing. This is enough to allow data connections but not power connections. So far 2 of my three have done this.
There appears to be a point where the connector gets forced backwards and comes to rest looking perfectly healthy, with full data links and no charging capability at all.
I suggest that you wiggle the connector so that it comes apart. Then you an take a look for yourself.
If you have a gentle touch and some needle-nose pliers (to get it out again later) you can try connecting the bare connector into the socket. It takes quite a lot of force to seat it properly.
I'm pretty sure that all my troubles are down to not seating the thing correctly.
btw. It seats more easily on my two Nook HD than on the two Nook HD+. Maybe due to the shape of the casing being different.
I am going to carefully stick my two split housings back together using Araldite. That'll stop them ever coming apart again.
If yours have started to creak at all during your attempts I suggest that you pull the connector out a bit and try again.
S'pose it's a while since I logged in here - I had Cyanogenmod on my phone but the Nook HD+ got so laggy it was unusable.
Ended up with a Linx 10 bought from the Staples sale before Xmas 2014 and much happier with it! I thought I'd hate a tablet with Windows, but apart from the crap App Store the full Windows capability is brilliant
What are some good external batteries that support quick charge 2.0?
Sent from my XT1254 using XDA Free mobile app
The Power Pack Micro is a good one - supports quick charge and functions as a key / phone finder with the Motorola connect app. Here's the link - http://www.verizonwireless.com/accessories/motorola-power-pack-micro/
Also, I saw a couple other quick charge Motorola Power Packs with larger capacity at my local VZW corp store.

well, here's this one:
http://www.amazon.com/UNU-Enerpak-2...-2&keywords=external+battery+quick+charge+2.0
that has 2800 mah, and is half the price as the other one posted.
Here's:

a little better
Most external battery packs are fairly similar internally.
The most important thing to consider is that it has a high output current.
Many only output 1A, which may reduce you power drain, but one charge under heavy use.
Ensure you get one with the 2.1 Amp output, you will be happier.
Consider the length of cable you will use to connect it.
I prefer a super short micro USB cable and to hold the powerpack behind, but this changes with the curved back of the turbo.
If you will use a cord and have the power pack in your pocket, consider length.
I would avoid a power bank with a built in micro USB cord as it is likely to wear out if move around like hing, camping, etc.
Otherwise, get the most capacity in MaH you can afford and are willing to carry.
Cheaper chinese ones are available but may not reach their stated capacity or efficiency.
I was able to obtain a small quantity of Quick Charge 2.0 battery banks directly from the distributor. I am keeping a couple and selling the rest to recover my costs.

Hmm those seem to be quite expensive at $50 a piece.... I hope you're able to make your money back, but why would you not just buy ONE reasonably priced one on amazon?

They don't sell any with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 anywhere yet. Incipio has one in the works but even theirs is priced at $89. I was able to make most of my money back.

Oh, Well, in that case, good for you. I'm glad. Always feels nice to make a profit!

Didn't really make much profit but I ended up with two batteries for myself at a reasonable price after all was said and done.
