I've done some research and I realise I just need to flash the .290 baseband to get the kernel off, but how would I go about flashing the stock rom/firmware and not lose root?
I'm using Purestock and doomlord Kernel. My reasons for taking these off is that my phone is blighted with random resets, battery drainage at an unbelievable rate, etc. I have the Xperia Z1 C6903
Thanks
Just flash the stock kernel, doomlord kernel drains your battery..

I had similar happen when I went to RR6.
What I did was to follow 2b) steps from OP of RR again, then reflash after going into "Mounts and system" and formatting \cache \system and \data
So do all steps plus the formats then reflash ROM and all is now ok
HTH
Thanks. I did that and that helped. I found the culprit to be the fact that i lose root when i flash the notecore-ex kernel. Compatibility issues maybe or maybe i m just doing it wrong. Any fix on this?

Once I got root back all seems to be ok - I can now flash any Rom/Kernel so I would say it is ok to continue flashing now that you have root back.
I have just updated to RR7 then Notecore Standard Kernel then EX kernel and all ok. Amazing benchmarks on Notecore EX - so far quite stable (been using it for 36 hours - will let it go for another day or so and if no more reboots will become my kernel of choice - battery life is very good and hardly any lag at all with RR7)
Good luck.
Hi.
I have got my so rooted and unlocked and have wanted to put a custom ROM on.
But every single one says just support for 2.254 firmware not my 2.245 firmware.
Will it still work or would it brick

It not safe to cross flash it will probably bootloop..i would suggest u to flash 2.254..and get it rooted and custom recovery installed.
Happy flashing

Is that possible as 2.245 is my only available software to update too

2.245
Dear Freind
Roms like pureness 1 and Honamiutreized are strictly firmware specific that is why, i think those developers specifically state do not flash this over other firmware variants that will cause problems and this is because those developers have heavily modded the latest firmware to add more tweaks to give advanced user experience hence that ROM may not be compatible on older firmwares.
But probably you can find Custom Roms (Like Cleaned and Tweaked Rom, JBXSP Rom, Project AOSP Rom) based on 2.245, just go to respective threads and check, you will find that the most of the ROMs' version 2 or 3 should be based on 2.245 firmware.
Try and enjoy customs roms.
No if you check this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311964 you can find many FTF for 2.254 which can be flashed using Flashtool and have latest firmware and flash latest ROMs based on 2.254 without any problem.

Hey buddy,
Don't cross flash .254 FW over .245 FW.
Just use flashtool to flash the .254 FW. It is easy, and there are many guides to do it. Once you know how to use flashtool, your phone also automatically becomes unbrickable as you know how to flash back the stock FW even if you somehow softbricked your phone.
Also, don't post questions in the development section. This is for ROMs and Kernels and stuff, there's no place for questions here. Go to the Q&A section instead next time.
Happy flashing (ROMs and kernels, not anything else )

I have flashed slimBean 4.3.1 and while i liked i wanted to go back to stock ROM.Will i face any problems while doing so, considering there is a custom kernel installed for 4.3.1 to work?If yes, what is the advised course of action?
Thanks in advance.
Your old kernel will be flashed if you restore a back up. You can use flash tools to simply flash a stock ROM and your phone should be like it was the first day you got it. As you have unlocked your boot loader you can just flash a kernel with root at any time.

Thats what i was expecting to hear tbh, just wanted to be sure. Thanks!
be careful with that i once flashed Existenz rom on 4.3.1 and it went into bootloop. if you want to go back to sony stock then it will be great to just flash the stock rom via Flashtool.
Or format system and data first

My phone is originally in pre-rooted 10.5.1.A.0.283.
Today I flashed C550X_10.5.1.A.0.292_KernelOnly.ftf from the following link directly using latest version of flashtool.
Now working great. Root is still here. I think it's a little smoother as I experienced little lag in 283.

I'm using this recovery. It has been too long I can't recall how I install it..

Btw I installed a power menu plugin in Xposed so I can use power menu to get into recovery. Pretty useful.

can you please upload .292 kernel here.
seems like the download link from the link that you gave above has some problems

Same here. Battery is better in 292 too.
i tried flashing 292 kernel using flashtool but its not getting flashed
I am still on old 283 kernel
any suggestions?
Edit: was able to do it after reinstalling drivers for ZR. Battery drain is very low
But I did not get LTE option
Can anyone re-upload (attach) the file again as the link was removed by a Mod, wanna try the .292 kernel on my ZR
i gotta be honest, using .292 kernel has more battery drain than using .283 kernel. been using it for a week now.
the only advantage on using .292 kernel over .283 is that .292 offers slightly minimal lag than .283 but worst battery than .283 kernel

There's nothing wrong with the .292 kernel. Actually when using .292, the default governer change to ondemand. If u have root acess, change it back to interactive, then ur battery life became normal again.

I tried flashing 292 using OTA but the phone just went to the custom recovery and didn't install anything.
Seems like OTA update does not work for rooted devices.

When you say this, I assume you are LB and want stock framework.
With that in mind, CM based ROM are out of the question (OMG, 80% of ROMs phased out!)
With stock-based ones, the best battery life actually comes from MIUI, but
1. It offers a non-stock user expeience
2. It is on 4.2.2
The only ROM that is both active (not outdated if you wonder) can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-zr/development/rom-ultimate-purexzr-ultra-v3-t2894718
Good luck:good:
We generally do not to "Best of" threads. As mentioned above you will need to try the roms and see what works best for you... Closed and moved to it's proper place in Q and A.
