[Q] security assistant S3 mini - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody,
first of all sorry for my bad level in english. I will try to be clear.
I would like to know if it s possible to add to the s3mini i8190 the security assistant that we found on the s4 or s4mini originally.
Why ? because my company is working in Caracas(Venezuela) and it s very dangerous. and we have only s3mini.
So the interest for me and my company is having this function actives, like this in case of attack, pushing at same time vol up and down, the mobile send automatically short alert message at a frecuency predeterminated to a list of contact determinated too with alert message and GPS position.
Many thanks in advance for your help to solve this case.

So, nobody to help me with my problem or that could be telling more about ?
Is it technically possible to have a similar program on the SIII mini like on S4 o S4mini ?
That i want to know is it a hardware problem or the infactiblity to detect the doble push on volume down and up.
Or it s only a software problem in this case may be is it possible to modifiy the S4 asistance security software.
thanks in advance for your answer.

It might be possible. The problem, I think, is that the feature is part of Touchwiz (Samsung's custom User Interface) and that is propietary software. The option would be that someone who has both phones could extract the code from S4 and then try to port it back. There are a lot of possible problems to consider and it would take time. So it would be tecnically possible in my opinion, the thing is finding someone with the time, knowledge and resources to do that

Hello,
I am a professor in computer science and I am currently holding Android lessons.
My students and I, we are working on several Android-Phones and we verified the same code including getNeighboringCellInfo() on HTC-Magic (2.2), Nexus-One (2.2.2), Motorola-Milestone(2.1), Samsung Galaxy S (2.1 / 2.2).
And guess what: Samsung Galaxy S NEVER returns any neighboring cells. Neither on Android 2.1 nor on Android 2.2.
This circumstance is very nasty, as even Google-Maps expects this information and hence always shows a wrong result when positioning relies on the cell-ids.
So if you need the knowledge of the neighboring cells (which indeed augments the positioning) do not use a Samsung.
Sorry for the bad news.

Well this probably doesn't help with the lousy GPS performance. Have you informed Samsung about the issue?
No. I don't know how to reach Samsung to raise the issues. Maybe XDA forum here can help on it?
Is it something like that ?
yes...
How did you get that ?
Are you on a Galaxy S ?

Try that:
-type *#*#197328640#*#* in dialer
You will enter in service mode, then:
-debug screen
-neighbour cell
Tested on ma Galaxy S with Froyo 2.2
Soo it can be done...
-Do u know any application which can give these informations (without passing execution to the system) ?
-Can u identify the system process which gave these informations when u enter the "magic" code ?
thanks. yes, we can get it via "debug screen".
Do you know how we can get it through android api? can we dev some app to get the neighbor cell info by ourselves? thanks
Do you know how we find the neighbor cell info from Code on Galaxy S? If we root the mobile phone, any configuration we can change?
thanks
I'm having the same issue: on 3 different samsung devices: Galaxy TAB, Galaxy S and Galaxy Mini...
Shame on Samsung!
With Nexus S as well, there's no debug menu for NS.
Samsung galaxy S2
My S2 displays cell info using the service mode key sequence *#197328640#. However, the level of detail is disappointing. No time advance for GSM and no cell Ids for neighbouring cells. This is due to the coding or implementation of the low level api (or transceiver driver) in the Samsung I believe, so that telephony classes do not include methods for getting more detail, so programmers can do nothing.
I have written cell tracking software for Symbian phones, and their CTelephony class is also quite limited, with no neighbouring cell id's or TA either. In fact, no frequency channels are available either. However, the famous Nokia FTD has access to these (via access to lower level API or driver) , but ironically not to the neighbour cell IDs either.
The only phone that displays neighbour cell IDs that I can find is the Blackberry, (v4. and higher). In fact ironically it has a better FTD than Nokia, since it also includes a BTS test facility that is menu driven for forcing a phone onto a specific channel or cell. The Nokia FTD does incorporate a BTS test but it is not as well implemented in my view.

How come all other services are working in samsung Dive..except mentioned..Obviously Data is Active
vs Seekdroid?
How is this service compared to seekdroid? Does one have an advantage over the other beside the fact that samsung dive is only used for samsung phones?

Its particularly good with stock roms.
Custom roms sometimes breaks it due to removel of certain components needed for it to work.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
I dont know about seekdroid, but wat better thing i found with Dive is, it controls device on 'net base' not Text base'. If thief dont install SIM card , n try to connect with wifi, still there wil be a control over it. In case of text base control, it sending msg regularly to track, which make some sense to thief, something is happening.
I am using one SW cerberus (before i got Note) having these functions, but extra it takes picture remotely, so at time of taking picture if device being used by thief(i mean is face facing to camera), you may get picture of thief too. you may call back from your lost device, without knowledge of this n can here surrounding.. n more
But anyway still i hav not confirm, samsung dive working even after factory reset or not? I think it may not
Wanted to check out this service on my Note, but I'm not able to install/set it up...
After creating a Samsung account, verifying it and logging back in, I get to a page with a big "Register your mobile phone now!" button - but clicking it results in absolutely nothing...
Anybody know (and care to share) how to get started with “Dive”?

Thanks! While I knew about the service, I hadn't seen the service/settings on the phone. Figured Samsung would put up a guide/information once I signed up...
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction dr.ketan!... []

Same here; 2.3.5 KK1, T-Mobile UK branded, registered with Samsung using a non-Google email address rather than my primary Android Google email address.
I note that my device is missing /system/app/IMEITracker*, AppLock*, SamsungAppsUNAService*, SimServicePermission* and wssyncmlds* that were in 2.3.3.
Just I replied here

am on stock ROM 2.3.6

UPDATE: when I updated from Gingerbread 2.3.5 to ICS 4.0.3, I got some updates to the onboard DIVE apps and it all sprang into life. Looks like this is a bug in (T-Mobile UK's?) 2.3.5 ROM.

GPS problem

Hi!
I own Samsung S3 mini phone since 2 weeks. I used to use GPS alot for outdoor sports, such as biking or hiking with my old Samsung Galaxy Ace phone. I'm running a problem with the GPS as the signal lost every minute, so I can't record my own ride or anything.
I've been checking this site but i didn't see anything regarding to this issue. I know that a lot of people is getting this problem with S3 terminal, and they have developed some fixes that can solve the problem, but not for S3 mini. Do anyone know something about it? I read somewhere that this problem could be caused by the RADIO or MODEM file, but i can't see any other file to try it out.
I'm runing a rooted deodexed ROM (AMB3)
Hope someone can help with this issue. I tried with GPS STATUS but is not fixing the problem.
Cheers
sorry guys... I just flashed 4.1.1 firmware and now works cool. Isn't anyone with this troubles in 4.1.2?

There are ways but it's too complicated unless a person next to you has the time and the same model. Just get the screen fixed, saves wear and tear
