[Q] Upgrade HBOOT 1.54 to newer - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
I have a rooted HTC one (S-On and HBOOT 1.54) and I'd like to use fastboot on my windows 8.1 64bit, but as far as I know HBOOT 1.55 or higher is compatible with win 8.1. Is there any way to upgrade my HBOOT to a version that I can S-Off it later by using rumrunner.
"rumrunner" states that it works with HBOOT 1.5x ! (for sure) Are HBOOT 1.55 and 1.56 supported by rumrunner or not.
My phone currently running on ARHD 41.0 KitKat and no idea about firmware version since i cannot get it worked with command fastboot getvar all
on win 8.1.
I really appreciate for your quick responses.
Thanks.

Thanks, just before you post, i considered downloading Ubuntu 13.10 and dual boot it with my windows 8.1 so that i can use the fastboot commands + have fun with it( Ubuntu is the best). Again thanks.
BTW, is rumrunner supported 1.55 and 1.56? and is it worth to upgrade hboot ? i mean does it make any difference to have 1.55 or 1.54 (apart from that fastboot compatibility)

1- recommend you use Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and use the 32bit version, not 64!!
2- rumrunner seems to be working fine with most versions of hboot & firmware, the only exception that still seems pending is 3.63.111.x seems a few are having problems with it (I could be wrong though), and hopefully the devs will have that sorted out soon enough.

[Q] Can't get S-OFF even if my life depended on it

Like the title says, I can't get S-OFF after spending hours trying to get S-OFF. I have an unlocked and rooted the phone using SuperSU v1.80. Here are some relevant numbers: HBOOT 1.55.0000, ROM 3.24.531.3, Android Version 4.3, and the phone was bought and uses T-Mobile. I have followed tutorials on revone, moonshine, and rumrunner universal edition and have had no success. If there is anyone who can help me find out what I am doing wrong, I would greatly appreciate it.
EDIT 1: I also did the 1.55 specific rumrunner method.
Try rumrunner methode for hboot 1.55. That might work

Woops, forgot to say I did that too.
do you have drivers installed? what does the rumrunner says?
Yea, check that you have the drivers installed, and that also HTC Sync is uninstalled. Next you should have ADB debugging enabled as well.
And now try to run rumrunner as administrator.

Windows 8.1 and Hboot 1.55

Just got my new laptop running windows 8.1. Now my ONE is not recognized when in fastboot, no fastboot drivers. Did a lot of research and found that everything works on the new hboot 1.55 which I don't run! Does anyone have the fastboot drivers available and can share? Or does anyone know of flashable for just the hboot upgrade?
I ran into the same issue on my home desktop computer with 8.1 after messing around with it I ended up grabbing out my old hard drive and booting back into Windows 7 however I would try flashing the Rumrunner H boot which should be compatible with Windows 8.1 as others have told me but I haven't tested it yet but that is my plan when I have to do my next round of flashing. Your going to have to use a Windows 7 (or xp) computer in order to do that but once you do then you can use your 8.1 computer from then on out
I wonder if I could get just the fastboot drivers if it would work without having to change my hboot. Does anyone have the fastboot drivers only available?
Go read the FAQ, @BD619 has the info you likely need in that thread (stickied).

You will have to upgrade the hboot for it to work on 8.1 regardless of what drivers you get at least that is my understanding. I'm on an older hboot because I did a custom hboot with my name on top. The main reason I did a custom hboot was to get rid of the ugly red development text during boot which rumrunner will do. The bootloader customizer plugin hasn't been updated to the new hboot yet so I would just flash rumrunner hboot. It just says rumrunner at the top and most important red development text is gone.
I'm trying to avoid changing my hboot because I have modded just the way I like it and I've never had a problem with it. But I guess is lose one, gain one!
If we're soff, can we just fastboot flash this firmware
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46123838 (the full firmware) to obtain the hboot we need to use in windows 8.1? I've rooted my One since the beginning and soff'd with revone and have always flashed the newest firmware minus the hboot...

All u need is the rumrunner hboot and Ur good. U do not need to flash any firmware. I've always done the same as u, upgrade firmware without hboot but this time I had to flash just a new hboot. And everything is all good now with windows 8.1!

Nice add to the FAQ, I had 8.1 before it was released so I ran into this issue right away but as it rolls out even more it's going to come up more often. With s-off changing upgrading/downgrading hboots isn't a big deal at all. With s-on you gotta be careful but this is the 1st time I can recall ever that upgrading your hboot has a benefit.

[Q] hboot 1.44 to hboot 1.55

i am currently on hboot 1.44 s-off. i was thinking about upgrading to hboot 1.55.
i have a couple of questions.
1. is it worth upgrading to 1.55? is there any advantages to upgrading to 1.55?
2. is there a way to successfully upgrade to 1.55 without loosing my s-off? i am not looking to reroot the phone.
1. Only advantage I know of at the moment is if you run Windows 8.1 meaning your phone and PC will be able to communicate while in fastboot. Windows 8.1 and hboot 1.44 your phone is not recognized while in fastboot.
2. You will not loose S-OFF by updating your hboot. You can flash the Full Unmodified Firmware or flash the Rumrunner hboot
thanks for the information.

I can confirm that, I have ran the RUU dozens of times, and never lost S-OFF, I assume they designed it that way because if an HTC engineer is working on the software, it would be easier to flash without having to turn S-OFF everytime it is flashed.

Hboot 1.44 & windows 8.1 = no Bootloader

Like a newbie I was flashing a few RUUs and managed to downgrade to Hboot 1.44 and now bootloader doesn't work with windows 8.1.
Is it possible to use bootloader with windows 8.1 and Hboot 1.44. My device is unlocked and S-off or is there a way to upgrade Hboot without a pc.
Thanks

I did that and for some reason it didn't update my hboot I'm still at 1.44. I'm running 4.19.401.8 but with no fastboot I can't install a TWRP I can't root pretty much anything that requires fastboot.

HBoot question

Does the hboot version matter all that much? I have 1.44 right now.
Should I update? If yes, why? What does it affect?

IMO, it doesn't really matter.. although I've heard that you need the more recent HBOOTs for 4.4.4 etc. If 1.44 is working fine for you, there isn't any reason to upgrade.

Thanks, that was my hunch.
I was recently running slimrom 4.4.4 without any issues (that I could notice) on 1.44.

Personally I would not update the HBOOT from 1.44. It makes it very easy to get S-OFF if you need it when you have 1.44 by using revone.
I'm not one that likes to update my hboot.... that being said.
1. If you use Windows 8.1 you will not be able to use fastboot with hboot 1.44.
2. Also I have noticed lately some of the latest RUU's (M7 and M8) require you to have the matching hboot or they will not work, some things to consider.
