[ROM] VanirAOSP [official] [nightlies] [4.4.2] GCC4.8 Linaro+ART optimizations - Galaxy S II I9100G Android Development

TeamVanir presents
VANIR
Yeah, it's got a HEMI.
Vanir was founded on the premise of performance tuning Android. We are based on AOSP, but include features (many of which have been rewritten to be more efficient) from other ROMs.
Our webkit, chromium, and skia are aosp/master merged with codeaurora, with linaro fixes on top.
BY LINARO, I MEAN GLOBAL "-O3 -fstrict-aliasing".... we didn't just switch toolchains. Here at Team Vanir, WE GO HARD.
Features
stock mode - ability revert to stock AOSP code with the exception of a few custom features we chose to keep active
enhanced performance.. longer uptime with less slowdown
custom written CRON and init.d.
UI and graphics improvements
custom navbar, navring, and hardware key features
improved notification handling (active display & halo are in review also)
usability improvements like power reboot menu and sound
animation control
Improved Vanir keyboard
CM's profiles & quicksettings
additional quicksetting tiles
immersive mode
statusbar mods
clock & battery mods
lockscreen blur and other mods
soon to come -> quick cam and flash notifications
busybox, embedded root, init.d, cron etc
yatta yatta yatta

There you have it, a beta VanirAOSP build...note that libril.so which is compiled from sources is still not working (outgoing calls get stalled), so using a prebuilt one...and therefore the ROM is fully functional...hoping to get this sorted out and have it official...and again, no ETAs, bug report with logs and no bug reports when on ART...

Exactly!!! :highfive:
And by the way I installed it and am pretty happy with this ROM.
I had one bug though:-
When I captured a pic, viewed it and hit the back button, the camera crashed!
Overall, really nice, much better than slimrom 4.4.2 v2.3......
Will keep reporting the goodies!!! Thanks!:good:

[rom] /// ATOM-422 \\\ [06-22] [linaro -O3 + GLOBAL -fstrict opts] the real deal.

PLEASE READ:
This AOSP is not limited to source changes from CM, Vanir, CNA, EOS, Carbon, AOKP etc. you get the best of all of them. All features included have been reworked to eliminate performance sinks and memory leaks and subtly improved as i see fit also. Finally, this rom is compiled using GLOBAL -O3 -fstrict-aliasing. I don't just turn it off where there's violations like every other "linaro" ROM source i've seen listed. This is the real deal. Latest linaro toolchain snapshot and proper use of the current 4.8 GCC features so it actually means something to say it's compiled with GCC 4.8.
Disclaimer: Because I'm using building using commits from every major repo in existence it may take a while to integrate some of the major features to my standards. I may release a stock AOKP feature as a beta until I have the chance to improve it but I'm not interested in band-aid fixing things or duck taping **** together just to get more crap under the features list and change log. Also, If you have questions or interest in building or joining vanirAOSP please message me on gtalk: [email protected] and feel free to add me on google+
here is a link to the parent thread where you can view previous change logs and perhaps find an answer to a question
general features:
vanirAOSP base: all features included, always the latest
customized-for-speed launcher2
optimized memory usage
current bug fixes and improvements from all major repos
additional features not present in vanir
attention to the details
minor UI theming/cleanup
custom embedded beats 5.1 drivers
multimedia enhancements
A-GPS enhancements
inverted theme included
ad removal
custom written init.d and cron setup
improved performance settings
browser tweaks
fast torch
customizable nav bar, quicksetting tiles, yatta yatta
full Linaro optimizations (now rebasing directly from their gerrit)
optimized networking
quiet hours, LED settings
statusbar mods
better multi-tab browsing
major bloat removal
--> PIE, APPBAR, HALO, custom UI changer, etc
full array of lockscreen tweaks
improved AOSP keyboard
email and exchange available in add-on packs
soooooo much more
Issues:
notes:
recommend trying the 0.25x transition speeds located in development options. this (& vanir-based roms) is the only ROM that has them.
screenshot is in custom apps --> apps & actions. i did this so it could be a desktop shortcut also
Instructions:
download rom & a gapps package compatible with AOSP roms
manually wipe (factory reset please)
flash ROM
flash Gapps

But I see in the OP that you might not have a Nexus 4 as you say that the ROM works fine on your toro and Nexus 7...why develop for the Nexus 4 then? Maybe I'm completely mistaken... If so, I apologize...

Okay nice Will test it soon And like always the question. Are the Vanir things in german too?
Anyone else red edges/bars around screen while process/phone freeze?
Great to see a new Rom, especially with such good features. Great work.
Just one question, what device tree are you using?
Can't find it on vanir github.

Rom sounds nice. Just flashed it. Seems very smooth (smoothest ive ever seen on this phone)
Bug report:
- First time i installed the rom, i couldnt do anything. It just freezed and rebooted after 1-2 minutes.
- Now it works, but the hardware buttons have heavy problems. (sometimes they work, sometimes they say just: nah, i dont like you)
- Browser crashes
- sometimes when i click in the settings menu the "battery" button i get a red rectangle for a second or so
I'm really asking myself why HALO 2.0 isn't implemented in other ROMs as well, because this is the only ROM which isn't slowed down by halo in general (my experience)
And it is indeed blazing fast
Good job @laufersteppenwolf

note: i can't do much about bugs, as it's a pure port. to actually "fight" bugs, i would have to make it official (to be "allowed" to change sources). But as long as it's inside the device tree, i will look at it for sure
also, this is a pretty early build. the devs are still heavily working on it. so it's most likely a general bug, and will be solved soon
Without any doubt one of the fastest ROM i ever tried !

What you talking about?
If you want to have GSM on your device - just use GSM-fix from OP.
I don`t try any "sd card swap" on this ROM.
If it works with AOSP 4.4. it also will work on Vanir / Commotio
Hey mam I have to say first Great job with this rom, I switched from OSE to this as my DD permanently(until I upgrade or something passes it). On my Razor M. I flashed your rom(1-14) with the 1-13 gapps. I'm also using Arrrghhh AOSP nov-19 kernel. O with the supersu flashable zip. Along with xposed(greenify, and android tuner) not too many tweaks on the tuner either. My gov settings are lulzactive, max 1.35, min 192, sched is SIO. So far this is what I got battery wise.
Also I'm using nova with "192 black edition" icon theme.
Now I'm going to get a full charge and tweak this thing to the gillz and see how much more battery I can get. THANK you for the great work. Keep it up

Have you tried this dalvik too? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2546120
I mean did you find art is faster than Qualcomm optimized dalvik too?
Nope. I've never tried different Dalviks
Just read the OP. Very interesting.
I'm on CM11 now but I'll see if the Dalvik patch makes a difference.

Well that patch is specific to Nexus 4, I'm not sure it will work to our Razr M. But -in general- the "qualcomm optimized dalvik" *should* work to our phones and from what I hear it's faster than ART (plus xposed support )...
Right away I see the difference with those patches applied.. We'll use the word "Butta"..not many specifics there, try it for yourself and see it

What is AOKP ?
AOKP stands for Android Open Kang Project. It is a custom ROM distribution for several high-end Android devices. The name is a play on the word kang and AOSP (Android Open Source Project). The name was sort of a joke, but it just stuck, just like our infatuation with unicorns.
We fork the source code of Android that Google puts out in the open with every major version release, and we then add the magical unicorn bytes (read: we add some of the coolest features that are both useful and make your ROM awesome).
With AOKP, you can generally do a lot more with your device than what you could do with the original firmware that came installed on it.
Why AOKP ?
We were waiting for when you’d ask this.
There are a variety of reasons why a hilly billy Android user, on a bright sunny day, would suddenly start using AOKP and loving it.
For one, AOKP is lightweight. Most OEMs provide a heavy UI layer over Android and have loads of bloatware (i.e. apps that not everyone use every day, but you cannot remove because they’re “baked in” by default). Since AOKP is built upon vanilla Android source, it has neither of the above.
Also AOKP has features that you will not find on your stock firmware. You can have a multitude of toggles to quickly flip a lot of your phone’s settings right at your fingertips, or you can launch apps quickly from any screen using our Ribbons.
You can change almost each and every aspect of the OS, from its looks to the way it functions, with total freedom. And did we tell you, AOKP helps you make tacos?
NOTE:
Actually AOKP is only starting with an AOSP with some extra features.
Usual features are coming soon...

Guys anyone having battery drain problem?? or its just me?? And have anybody installed Xposed framework?? after installing xposed, process.XXXXXX.media stops
I couldn't enter the launcher settings on homescreen and navigation bar wasn't working/showing either. Otherwise its a pretty good rom, simple, light and still enough customizing options. Just one question tho..is performance settings unavailable and can't be tweaked or is the option coming in later releases?

ThinkingBridge project consists of people (around the world now) that want to learn how to do things related to the Android Open Source Project. It's not just a fork that has a few features added in and some themes changed, or a project that just wants to see how many devices can be ported. We've all learned something in the process of porting devices, and creating features, and continue to do so. With contributions from other forks like CyanogenMod and CodeAurora we are able to learn from them and continue even with older devices.
Also, all of the sources can be publicly viewed through Github.

Known issues:
Panorama mode in built-in camera apps
There are no button settings so you can't set button brightness manually. Simple script to put into init.d to disable it:
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/button-backlight/leds/button-backlight/brightness
echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/button-backlight/leds/button-backlight/max_brightness
Maybe other things

Really? That would be a nice side-effect since this still uses grouper blobs and it shouldn't work.
Regarding torch: It needs the same hack that was needed in Omni, will add it back in next build.
