I used to have 3.7gb free available storage on my Motorola Atrix HD mb886 running cyanogenmod 11.0 snapshot but I installed the GTA San Andreas app which used 2.39gb and I had like 1.2gb left and app didnt worked it crashed so I went to the app cleared data and unistalled the app. The issue is that the app isn't installed anymore and obb were deleted but it still says that I only have 1.2gb left,I rebooted it to check if it will give me my storage back but nothing happened still 1.2gb left so I clear all user data via recovery but nothing still same issue. What could be the problem and how could it be free? Please help. Thanks in advanced.

Try going to Android folder at your sd (not external).
There you will see data and obb folders, just look for the game storage data and delete it.
I had a very similar problem and one day while messing around with "ES File Explorer" I found a button that said "SD Card Analyst" Naturally I was curious about what it analyzes, so I clicked it. (It analyzes the internal SD) The very first folder that popped up was the exact size of the missing space and had the same name as an app I had uninstalled. Sneaky lil app, I even cleared all data before I uninstalled, and that was one ROM previous. Sorry to make a short story long, but I hope this helps.

How did you format the internal storage?
Btw, I finally found the files that have been taking almost 3gb of my atrix internal space. They include 1gb of FIFA 14 game file and lots of my pictures which I thought were gone when I moved from holoblur to probam. They were hiding inside data\media folder all this while.

This Actually has happened to me many times before and this method has helped.
1)Open cmd and enter "diskpart"
2)After u are in diskpart type "list disk"Your card should be listed as 16384 mb.
I’ll assume that the sd card is disk 1(plz check this)Format the drive by typing the next instructions into the same window.Replace the number “1” with the number of your disk below.
select disk 1
clean
create partition primary
select partition 1
active format
fs=fat32
assign
exit
(this is actually used for making the drive bootable, format it again with windows later) hope it helps.

Hi,
I successfully prepared my SD-card and rebooted the device. I was told this would take a bit longer for all the apps being moved, but it didn't.
I haven't applied any scripts from OR, because CM7 should perform the ext2 procedure automatically when booting with a prepared SD-card inserted.
But now I lost (or can't find?) my Google apps, keyboards and probably some other stuff. Looks like all the apps stored in internal memory are gone, but where, as I don't know how to get to them if they're on ext2. I don't notice any differences regarding moved apps and an operating ext2, except from that they're missing now... There's also no SD folder in System, which I think should have been created.
I can see all the apps in the installed list, but they have native Android icons, just like some shortcuts on my homescreen. Also widgets from apps installed in (former?) internal memory don't load. It looks like Android just needs to be told where they are now (just like myself ;-)
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Gerard

You should see a folder on your sd card called sd-ext and there should be 3 folders in there. Open up sd-ext/dalvik-cache and your apps should be there.

Nope, there is no "sd-ext" folder on my SD card. There is also no "sd" folder in "system".
In OR I just ran "Scandisk ext2" from the Utility menu and wiped both Dalvik and normal caches. At least that brought back my apps, but I have no idea where they are located now: in internal memory or on ext2...

See my previous post, in Holland we say "2 souls, 1 thought"
So i wiped both caches and indeed got my apps back. I also ran that "Scandisk ext2" command, dunno what that did though.
So what I'm curious about is where I am now: back to how it was, or running ext2?

What is your internal memory? If you have Linux, check your ext partition. It should have app, app-private and dalvik-cache folders with your apps in the app folder.
You should also have those folders inside /sd-ext folder or /system/sd-ext folder, not in the sdcard.

Yup. That's it. I forgot that in the latest CM7, kabaldan moved the dalvik-cache back to the data partition. So yes, your apps2ext is working.
But, you should have a sd-ext in your root folder for sure.

So I don't need those /system/sd-ext folders? If not and it's all okay, great!
I have a few other questions though. Will everything I install from the Market from now on be installed at ext2, even if it's apps2sd enabled? Since apps already installed on my SD-card through apps2sd have not been moved to ext2, should I leave it this way or are there any benefits moving them too? If so, how? Is it better to install apps2sd enabled apps on SD or to ext2? Is there a way to control or handle this?
I realise this is a lot to ask, but I haven't been able to find the answers yet. Links are welcome too!
Thanks again,
Gerard

Any app you install now goes into the ext folder automatically. When you delete it, it removes itself from the ext partition.
Though the app is stored on the ext partition, some internal space will be used. But you can install a lot more apps.
Regarding apps already moved using apps2sd, just move them back to the internal storage and reboot your phone. They will move to the ext folder on reboot.
Sent from my MILESTONE using Tapatalk
This really works great. I've moved all my apps to ext2 and everything runs smoothly.
Indeed my internal memory is dropping however, because of the apps data, which is stored in the "/data/data" folder, so I've read.
I've also read this data could be moved to SD also, but I'm not considering that yet. But what to do when internal memory is running out? What's the limit for stable, smooth operarion? I have about 50 MB free now.
Thanks again,
Gerard
i am having very similar problems. using apps2ext for the first time. (latest miui by lalit)
from my understanding apps get stored on the ext partition on the sdcard.
i moved some apps - that supported it - and everything was fine (i thought)
then i wiped my fat32 (i moved all of the files to my pc) -- BUT now my phone isnt able to find the apps (on the ext partition?!) anymore...
what am i missing here?
EDIT---
i just discovered the ".android_secure" folder and moved it back to my sdcard. my apps reappeared.
so there are 3 locations i can store my apps?
1) internal
2) SD: ext
3) SD: fat
how do i tell my phone to store everything on ext? i am able to move apps from within phone-application-settings to sd-card (gets stored on fat) or move them with titanium backup (also just internal and sdcard)
when i check titanium backup it lists 3 storage locations 1) internal 2) sdcard 3) sdcard (a2sd)
miui sd-card setting (A2SD+) on the other hand says "this device does not support A2SD+)
sorry for all this confusing stuff up there. i am trying to understand this

app2ext (second ext2/3/4 partition on the SD card) is different to the native Froyo app2sd (a virtual filesystem base o files stored in .android_secure folder).
The app2ext requres a script to be executed as the Android satrts (e.g. placed into init.d) and its makes all the stuff 'invisible' for the system, it simply moves all the apps from internal storage into the ext partition and links the partition to the filesystem. Once you have it you do not need to manually move every single apps to sd.
I've created an ext2 partition and CM7 move my apps to it. But when I continue moving my apps from sd to internal (or "not SD"), my internal storage go down.
I restarted the phone but it's 18MB free yet.
Must I move some apps to SD again?
Another question: what about davilk cache? When I did this on stock rom, the script I've used move davilk-cache to ext2 too.
Thanks
Dalvik cache is not moved to ext partition in cm7.

Maybe I've writen bad my previous post.
When I move apps from SD to internal (because I want them on ext2 partition) my internal storage increase (the free space go down). So, this app2ext doesn't give me any advantage over app2sd from android.
There is a solution or workaround for this?

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to change roms and for some reason the recovery says that the sdcard cannot be mounted.
I have tried using darkyrom ressurection and it works, but after i try flashing slimbean it flashes the kernel and then stops recognizing the sdcard.
I don't know if this is a physical problem (sdcard broken or something), or a software problem.
If anyone knows how this can be fixed I would be very gratefull.
If you can mount it on your computer, see what format it is in. Fat or Fat32 ?

Copy everything off of it. Then do a full format (non quick). Could take 30min. Then flash to stock 2.3.x with Odin using 512 pit. Then flash a kernel through Odin, and flash the Rom you want from there.

I know my question isn`t exactly about mounting the sd card, but since it involves memory, I believe this thread could be useful.
I updated my Galaxy S to Nightly`s CM10 4.1.2 and since then have been having major issues with storage.
I have a 32gb sd card which to me appears totally unused, because I try to take pictures on the camera, and it simply won`t allow me `cause it says I do not have any space available, but this is what my phone shows me:
Internal Storage
Total Space 1.48GB
Apps 361MB
Available 1.15GB
USB Storage
Total Space 5.78GB
Apps 182MB
Pictures Video 2.14GB
Downloads 432MB
Available 2.41MB
SD Card
Total Space 29.87GB
Available 28.62GB
I`ve only been having these problems after updating to CM10, before I had a stock android 2.3!
To be very honest I do not know what the USB storage stands for, but I think my phone could cleverly use the 32GB I left free for my stuff!
Any help please on how to have available space on my phone again so I can continue taking pictures and download normally?
Many thanks

i9000 has 8 GB internal SD which is divided into Internal Storage and USB storage. SD Card is your external SD.
Seems that the most space of your USB storage is used to store Pictures and Videos.
There is no option to change camera target storage in CM10, but could you just move your pics to SD card?
I hope that the option of choosing camera storage will be there in the future - I think they had it on CM9.
Did you update with wipe, wipe dalvik and wipe cache?
Thanks a lot for the explanation!

Gladly the SD card is readable and I just plugged the phone to the computer and copied the dcim folder to the SD card, the only problem is that I cannot see this "album" on the image gallery. Any hints?
Problem solved, just changed the folder name and it became visible. Just didn`t like it because I had to do it manually, is there a way to make my pictures and apps to be honest, go directly to the sd card other than the internal storage? I bought and class 10 sd card so that it would have fast access and I wouldn`t have to worry about backing up stuff from the internal to the external all the time.

There's no option in cm10 to choose picture target save location. Maybe It'll be available in later releases.
hello, I have also a problem with the external SD card - it can be somewhat connected with this.
A while ago I didn't have a CD rom or an USB to install windows on my PC and I thought I could use the SD card while it's in the phone as an USB device to install windows from it. During the format process, it gave an error and now it says it's broken when trying to acces from the phone. I don't have a SD converter, to put it directly in the PC, but I tried to format it from the phone and from Windows (while in the phone), but nothing works.
Can I do something or it's broken forever?
Is the Read-only switch on your SD off?

hi guys,
i've a little big problem with my atrix HD: i've just installed the cyanogen 11 snapshot M10, after having done all the wipes, format system, data etc, after the reboot everything was fine, and i started reinstalling all the app i need, and there is the problem, apparently i don't have enough free space to download and install app... maybe there's something i don't know about the place where the apps are downloaded or something like that.. i've checked the play store cache, wiped it too but nothin changed... here a screenshot about the apps page, thanks in advance

What app is it failing on? What size was it? Were you on a previous version of CM11? Just trying to get some background before diagnosing. I do see that you are down to 500 MB, so if its a big download you very well may be running out of space. The phone has about 5 gigs of free space when on CM11 M10.

for starters, did you make sure that you are seeing the right internal memory for that? remember, there's that sdcard1 and legacy folder that does take up room. advise you look through those, grab up what you need, put it under one folder and delete the other. also, if its saying that on installing apps, go data/app-lib, delete files corresponding to app, and reinstall app.

do you think that's something related to the internal SD card? do the apks are downloaded in the internal sdcard?

Can you post a screenshot from the storage page with the internal sd?
do you mean, taken with the file manager?

data partition access requires the use of a file manager that gives you root access (like root browser)
The internal storage that I was referring to is something that is usually seen when ppl use philz touch recovery (media1 vs media0 in philz). this does create a situation where you have your storage from a previous version of android and a storage from a newer version of android. for example, if using CM (I'm on CM10.2, but should be able to be seen on any version), you have the CM version of file manager included. open that and go to storage. in there you'll see emulated, sdcard1, and usbdisk. emulated refers to that older internal storage while sdcard1 refers to the newer

in the first photo, you can see the content of storage directory in my phone:
1-Emulated = it contains the directories "0" and "Legacy";
2-Sdcard0 = it's for the "Internal sdcard";
3-Sdcard1 = it stands for the "External sdcard";
4-Usb Disk = maybe is the partition mounted when i plug an usb drive in ?
I've a clockwork recovery installed.
So just to undestand, when i format the system, it creates copied directories in the internal storage?
However, this is a a new screenshot from the app section, as you can see, i can't install chrome in its stable release, but i can download and install the beta version....WTF?

My bad, I hit a 1 instead of a 0 on the sdcard part. but yes, from what you described in your most recent post and the pic attatched, that is what I am referring to. That Emulated folder is what you need to go through, and move any files you want to keep over to sdcard0 (easier to work with), then delete everything inside Emulated. That should free up space.
Which CWM do you have?
I'm looking into the Chrome app right now to see what's going on with it. even though I'm on CM10.2, I've got both installed correctly. What is it saying when you try to download it?
clockwork version: v6.0.4.8
error displayed: -24, i've googled it and i found it's about memory leak problem

I recently had that error with adobe reader. I fixed mine by doing what I said earlier in the data partition, as well as going through the main folders within the data partition (data/app, data/app-lib, data/dalvik-cache, data/data) and deleting anything corresponding to the app.
For some unknown reasons, even after deleting all folders from my internal memory of my Moto G (1st Gen), i see only 6.21 GB free space out of 12.9 GB (or 16 GB).
Is it because of rom back up i took few days back ? Please help me to free the memory back.

Rom backup is about 1-2 GB depending upon your data.. Try deleting that! If you are using TWRP recovery then the backup should pe present in TWRP folder in internal storage!

I used CWM recovery, can't find any folder named cwm on my internal memory.
Check your backup in Data/Media/clockworckmod
If it is not there then go into your recovery.. There you can change the location of your backup! You can then find where your previous backups are stored.

Checked it, the folder "clickworkmod" is not present. I tried to make a backup again and this time it was created and took up further 2GB space. I could not see my old backup.
I past i had also installed TWRP, so i tried flashing TWRP recovery and checked for any existing backup if existed, but it found no twrp backup.
To conclude, there seems to be no rom backup on my memory, still i am clueless of why am i getting almost about 3 GB of space occupied by some unknown thing
I also tried doing a factory reset, but still the memory showed only about 9 GB free (Instead of expected around 12 GB) considering my MOTO G is 16GB model.

Go to Settings>Apps>All and sort by size. Check your apps. Sometimes Chrome is using a crazy amount of space. Especially if you downloaded something from basketbuild. Press Clear Data.
Checked apps as well. Nothing consuming much memory.

I still am clueless where exactly is my approximately 3 to 4 GB getting occupied?

Hi, I just tried with ES explorer, it shows just 449 MB used (Directory analyze) and does not show any thing major consuming data. Still i get readings as Total: 12.92 GB; Used 6.90GB; Avail: 6.02 GB.
Have also done extensive search using Root explorer.
It's surprising that nothing shows where the extra GB's are gone

And how to do that ? I already performed a factory reset, and still nothing got better.
I have TWRP installed, anything i can wipe safely from there ?
1) Dalvik cache
2) data
3) Internal storage
4) cache
5) system
I am not very sure what can i wipe without risking Bricking my device.
Can anyone please suggest what among these 5 are safe to wipe ?
Also i don't want to lose TWRP and root after wiping something, so please suggest accordingly.

You can wipe everything without bricking your device.. But you just want some extra space then you should only wipe internal storage, cache and dalvik cache!
Make sure you copy all your important stuff from your internal storage to your pc or sdcard before wiping it.

Okay, I will try wiping my internal storage from TWRP.
I was concerned, since i saw various posts were people messed up their roms by wiping internal storade, and had to do abd side load.
(Please confirm once more that i should proceed with wiping internal memory from twrp).

Yess you can wipe your internal storage without any problem! When you unlock your bootloader, your internal storage is automatically wiped and it does not create any problems, so you can safely wipe it!

Solution found!. I simply did "fastboot erase userdata" and i got back my full storage capacity.
