[Q] Charging mode in battery saving apps - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Some battery saving apps have a special charging mode which should improve the battery life and health. Do those apps actually change something about the way the battery is being charged or is it just a placebo effect?

Well, personally I don't use or trust any battery saving apps except for greenify. As they are all useless to me, so I wouldn't recommend you to install any battery saving apps. ( it's just my opinion )

Well I was already using Greenify, so I won't need anything else. Thanks for the help!

As far as I know charging a battery slower (using a lower current) and not fully charging it should preserve it's longevity.

[Q] Does the lagfix enable affect the battery life?

Does the lagfix enable really (or significally) affect the battery life?
Not that I have ever noticed. At least not significantly so as there are always other factors (kernel, ROM, apps, general usage pattern etc.) that will affect battery life more.

Heavy battery drain

Hello fellow note owners
My note has been draining a heavy amount of battery lately. 2 days ago I did a battery calibration, drain it to 0 then fully charge it to 100 while phone is off. Today i turned it on and I was surprised the first 5 mins I used the phone, 5% of battery gone!
I am currently using Rocket Rom v22 on Abyss kernel 4.2
Abyssplug governor
I am using SPB Shell launcher
My screen brightness is all the way to dimmest
Wifi,gps,BT are all turned off
Data and background data is on
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Download Better Battery Stats and find out what is causing your *wakelock*
whatever you are using... am using the same except spb laucnher. Mine consumes average of 3% per hour with GPS,3G, background sync on. And not using any battery monitors.. Try reseting..coz some app may cause this drain..
Thanks for the replies

I have this app but I dont really know how to use it... and also I am not concerned about my phone draining battery when im not using it. Its when I am CURRENTLY using it and draining massive amount of battery for simple task (I.e browsing over my phone's apps, Internet, checking email using K9 mail, Facebook) I literally just unplugged the phone from charger and used for 5 mins and battery immediately dropped to 95%...

This is what I wanted to happend 3% PER HOUR!!! Mine is 5 mins = 5% gone!
What do you mean reseting? Reset what?
However any app grinding when you aren't using the phone will also be grinding cpu when you are.. In better battery stats select wakelocks and see what apps are constantly waking up.
You really want to get your phone using minimal cpu when it's off so you can really judge how much the running apps are using.

Check out Badass Battery Monitor. It's easier to understand.
I was having the same battery drain issue. I install better battery stat app and found that google+ was using most of the battery and stay awake the whole time. I uninstall google+ and no more drain.
I am not sure if these are normal..
Can someone guide me on how to do some tweaking/killing bloatwares to improve battery life?

What is on top of the list when you hit "App Usage" in Badass Battery?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-4
Spb shell 3d.
Also on on badass battery, the phone radio is on the same time as the battery time. Is that normal?

You got your answer right there.
SPB Shell 3D is eating up the juice. Its a beautiful launcher but its serious battery drain if you play with it little bit.

Does my device needs battery calibration?

My device battery is draining very fast so i wanted to calibrate the battery. I downloaded battery monitor and i get 4300++ when its on 100%. So do i still need battery calibration. Im planning on trying zeppelinrox battery calibration.

Battery calibration is a myth.
Will do nothing other then wipe battery stats and make a new one.
It can be done by charging the phone till 100% and disconnect it from charger

Instal good battery monitor like gsam etc. You will be able to see what is draining your battery. Also do not use full brightness all the time.
P.S. What is fast for you? Can your battery stand a day?
Sent from my GT-I8190N using xda app-developers app
Its like when i leave my phone for about 2 hr. The battery drops from 70-50% on wifi. And i used to be able the last the whole day with 3g on and my phone is only 2 weeks old.

You're not alone bro. Same here!

well i agree with the battery saver is a myth statement... I see you have used battery very bad way and now battery has depleted its life span. So still battery is on good side... Just try to do one charge cycle and close all unwanted apps and processes/features so it will conserve battery that way you can keep your battery safe or if you are really unsatisfied try this http://www.mugenpoweronline.com/zas...tid=5&sortby=sortid&orderby=desc&type=carrier
Good luck!
Hit thanks if i helped :good:
yes, battery calibration is a myth, so you must try install a fresh rom (try light by somin, its very battery friendly), use your brightness always low, and your wifi always off when you dont need it. you will see that your battery (if its not broken) will last for at least 2 days (depending on your phone usage)
and the best "calibration" is to drain your device to 0% (it will shutdown) and then charge it to 100% without using during charging. Do this 2 or 3 times and your battery will be very well.
this http://www.mugenpoweronline.com/zaspx/product_details.aspx?file=pr&productno=1640&PageNo=4&ccatno=5&csubcatid=5&sortby=sortid&orderby=desc&type=carrier is bullsh**
If you're rooted you should also download DU Battery Saver PRO and tick the option "low cpu frwquency while screen off'. Just that little option changed my phone's whole life style It really does work so give it a try, you won't be dissapointed.
and yes battery calibration is a myth and doesn absolutely nothing which may help your battery life (i know from 1000s of personal experiances with the calibration thing )

Overheating might be due to overclocking your device or you might use your device your while charging. If not the above case there is a app which keeps your awake device awake and keeps using your cpu time! So, install a app called betterbattery stats which gives complete info about your phone's state, apps which your CPU ( which will heat your phone) Better Battery Stats this apps needs root permissions to work at it's full potential. You could remove those apps (stock apps) using titanium backup or remove user app manually!

Thx for the answer.
I dont have it overclocked, its all stock v20A and rooted and I still get the overheat unplugged even with normal use. Its not a big issue but it makes me ask why it get warm with basic usage like Facebook, Whatsapp, and web browsing.
I only ask for suggestions of which apps do you recommend to remove.
I might underclock the cpu too.

The phone does heat up. I dont know the reason why it heats up so much in stock V20A. It did not feel that warm in ICS.
I dont know about any stock apps that do cause overheating but LG MLT, Google Transport Service and a few other services are huge battery hogs. You would get extra battery life by deleting them or "Freezing" them. Before I switched to CM to try it out, I felt that the battery life improved and was on par the stock CM.I have now.

lots of stock roms are available deodexed. Read this thread by member @R_a_z_v_a_n which explains it very well, then use search to find the deodexed ones. Search remember is your friend
I haven't seen any notable difference in battery life on any 4.3 or 4.4 rom. Surfing the web over wifi and brightness set manually to medium i lost about 12-13% charge in 30 minutes.
Higher battery drain can be a placebo effect too. You installed a new rom and expect at least as good battery life as on stock, let's say. Then on your new rom you keep eye on the battery, waking your phone more often and checking the battery status and stats, thus draining the battery little more overall. I won't tell that's the case right now, it's just one possible reason people see their batteries dying sooner. Now i'm currently on fresh CM 10.1 (build 1117) and will find out if there is any difference in battery life compared to CM 11.

Right! I solved my battery problem hiding the battery icon on the statusbar lol
on cm11 05\03 with pegasusq + sioplus, one day with medium usage (3g activated when needed and some vg)
Well CM 10.1 doesn't give me more battery life than kitkat. With my usage pattern and settings it's draining about 26% per hour.
Hey, I flash harshjelly and after one Day of utilisation, my Juice is 26 % now... My client service don't want to help me...
