does anybody know about the quality and how strong is the camera lens from the moto x can handle from scratch ? I'm just thinking about cover it with plastic or cut a few piece from smartphone screen protector and put it on the top of the moto x camera lens surface, well I've attached the moto x with softgel TPU case it has like 5-8mm space between the camera lens of moto x with the softgel TPU case but you know when the phone is already inside your pant's it can get scratch with something that you also put inside your pants , or am I just being to paranoid ? you know I've tried to search this kind of thread in this moto x section but can't find the right one.
hopefully with a pieace of mind from you that would help me or understand more better about how to protect the moto x camera lens .
If you put a screen protector over it your picture quality will be crap. Not sure what the protection level is, but I'd say as adequate and standard as most other phones - minus the HTC X (or whatever 1st gen One was called), and I'd even be as bold to say it looks like we have more protection on the lens than the Nexus 5.
You'll be fine with just your TPU case.

hmm got it, thx man
I'm thinking about buying the new Moto X and apparently Verizon will be running a promotion where they will be offering the a white/bamboo moto x for $99 on contract (not charging extra $25 for bamboo back). Can anyone share their experience with a bamboo back cover? It looks nice but i've never seen one in person and I was wondering how it holds up over time.
Thanks!
I've been studying pictures of the 2014 Moto X but I can't really tell. I loved the curve on the old Nexus S...the front face of the Nexus S was curved where the ear and mouth ends had a slight curve upwards. Is the Moto X curved like this? Or is the curve only on the back and the front glass face is flat/straight?

No, it's not. The glass is perfectly flat except for the edges where it curves into the body.
What I'm curious about though, is why you would even think it would be curved like that in the first place?
The original Google phone with the ultimate curve... Nexus S. Notice how the face is not flush with surface because of the curve. it was a awesome design

I know about the Nexus S, I used to have one. The Nexus S and the Galaxy Nexus are the only two phones that I can think of that have that curved front... why would you think Moto X would have that same design?

There have been a couple other curved phones from LG & Samsung, but they didn't see a wide release and I think were only available in Southeast Asia. Either way, every phone that has had any curve too it has ALWAYS been advertised that it was curved, and the Moto X was not mentioned as being curved, or even hinted that it wasn't flat.
It seems like there are mixed info on this,
but for those of you who already received new moto, if your back cover is soft touch (rubber/non-slip feel like Nexus5 or 1st Gen black MotoX)
what color is it?
I think black is confirmed to be soft touch, but I'm looking at other options.
My current black leather one is kinda slippery, and it's going back to Motorola because of some defects.
Please no "I heard / I think / I guess" posts. ONLY if you HELD it in your hands, thanks.
Not sure if this is any help, but the leather backs are soft-touch and non-slip. If you're just wanting the plastic backs, I'm not sure.

I have one with black leather back, and I wouldn't say it's a non-slip, feels more slippery than "real" soft touch non-slip.
Have you held black Nexus 5 or 1st gen black woven Moto X ? That's the type of non-slip back I'm talking about.
I got the royal blue and it's just regular plastic
I can confirm that the standard (non Moto) black back is soft touch and not slippery.

What do you mean by "non Moto"?

My bad. I meant "non MotoMaker". i.e. what Verizon stocks in the stores.

And, FWIW, the "stock" retail (non Moto Maker) black back is easy to grip. Not slippery at all.

Got it, thanks.
I wish there was also an option for "sand black" back like the black OnePlus has. That one is the best grip I've tried.
I've had a cover like that for my old moto x to cover ugly slippery white (VZW developer edition), but now I wanna keep it naked.
The old otter box impact was the grippiest case ever.
The Defender was the best I could find.
Here are some mods to perform including an easy holster to car kit conversion using any moto base.

Olive is not soft touch
I bought the Olive colored back assuming it would be soft touch because the 2013 moto x in olive was. But the 2014 is not soft touch. Too bad they don't have all the back in store like they did for moto x 2013. I really wish I knew which backs are soft touch.
Over on the Motorola boards, they have said ONLY black is soft touch. Unlike the 1st gen, no other colours are.
i have the leather version of moto x 2014... i never used cover so the back of the phone is kinda bumped/scratched/shocked etc....
i have been thinking in some leather fixers that they sell around internet... but i was wondering if there was a better way/
