[Q] HTC One Driver Problems - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Basically, I have posted this exact same problem here months ago, but with not a lot of help. I came here to get help and I intend of leaving with a bit of some. Basically, I rooted my HTC One, turned S-On, and finally installed Cyanogen Mod. Everything was working for the most part. I remember being able to attach my phone to my PC and being able to transfer files over to my phone. Recently that has been working out so well. I try to transfer files from my PC to my phone, such as music/videos/etc, but my phone doesn't show up. I can go to device manager and see my HTC One under other devices with the caution triangle, so basically my device is read to be connected to my PC but is lacking the drivers to use it. Like I said before, I have posted this problem on other forums before, and I have been sent the link to the drivers. I've installed HTC drivers, USB drivers, HTC One Sync, and so much more, but none of that has worked. All that happens is that my phone will connect to my PC, charge, be noticed by the PC but is completely unusable from PC to phone. On the phones side, it's 100% okay. No problems other than the simple nightly bugs, but I know it's the ROM version I am using. I reverted to the last known stable Cyanogen Mod, and the one previous to that. That hasn't fixed the problem as well. I'm running out of idea's and I'm just looking for some help. If you can help, rather then posting a link for drivers and thinking I'm retarded, please do so. I will appreciate it to the fullest. As for that, that is all I have to say. Please help, and all help is appreciated.

Ok,
I think the best thing we can to in this case is the classic troubleshooting.
Try different USB Cables, slots on your PC, DON'T connect it to a USB HUB (I think you already know that.. I just mentioned it to ensure that)
Make a backup and flash the stock Sense ROM
If you can get a connection to your PC .. Cyanogen causes this issue
That was to determine wheter it's your phone or your computer that causes this issue. Pretty basic.
Uninstall your drivers from the device manager interface
Uninstall everything that is related to your HTC One(HTCSync, maybe Kies or other programs like this, Every driver)
Now, make a registry clean to reinstall everything on a clean way
Use Wise Registry Cleaner
Proceed a computer reboot
Now, download the latest version of HTC Sync
Install it with every driver component.
Then uninstall HTC Sync WITHOUT the drivers
Plug in your phone and wait until other drivers are installed
If that's done, try if the connection works

Unroot possible with no USB Connection?

Is it possible to unroot your phone without your usb connection working anymore? I plug my phone into my computer which is running Windows XP Media Center edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3 and it says USB Device not recognized. I tried to manually update the driver in the device manager but it tells me that the specified location does not contain information about your hardware and I verified that they are the drivers for my hero. I even tried a new cable to eliminate that as a problem but I still have the same issues. To give it one last try I plugged it into my laptop Running Windows Vista and also came up with usb device not recognized. I would like to return my phone to Sprint so I can get the usb connection problem fixed but I need to unroot the phone first. PLEASE HELP! - Josh

you can "re-flash" the stock .img files from Better Terminal. I lucked out on my last phone that went completely dead for no reason I knew of. The techs couldn't revive my rooted phone, so I got a replacement.
Since then, I do a "watered down" root - @forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
Without having to wipe everything clean and start from scratch- Flashing the stock and removing root works for me through this:
I copied unrevoked and RA1.6.2 to my sdcard. Use step 7 & 8 (sh /sdcard/unrevoked and flash the RA recovery img). After reboot, I make a nand backup.
For me anyway- by doing none of the rest, it allows me to remove the apps I want to remove and allows me to reflash the stock 2.1 recovery image. I can then update to .6 if necessary to seal it up...flashing the recovery image can be done from the phone using Better Terminal as well.
The only reason I prefer it this way is, I don't want to use a custom ROM and I only want to pull some of the unecessary (for me) apps out. I'll back it up and if need be, I am 1 step closer to "unrooting" it.
I know, I know...but to each his own...I've taken a rooted phone in (no custom ROM) with a speaker issue- no hassles. I've taken a rooted phone in for dust under the screen, way back when- and had to argue the point that ROMS and rooting had nothing to do with a defect in manufacturing that caused the dust under the screen (was able to get a replacement just slightly after my 30 days was up).... So when this last one was completely dead - I thought for sure it was going to cost me.
Long Lost Thank You!
I tried that and it totally worked. I appreciate the detailed feedback. I just realized I never commented back! Now I have an EVO and I just put MIUI on it, can't wait to try it out. Thanks again!

It's not recognized when the phone is on? Seeing as you posted this topic using your phone I assume so lol. Have you tried restarting your computer?
You can download the correct drivers here.

Make sure you are using the oem usb cable. I had the same problem, changed cables and it worked
some cheap cables are for charging ... bt headsets and other stuff the data cables dont connect, its just for power.

You gotta make sure that your usb port is directly connected to your motherboard (usually back of your computer).

it must be a powered usb hub, on my buddies laptop only 1 out of 4 usb ports saw his phone.
if you can get into download mode you arent bricked.
try installing i9000 drivers, or try another computer.
I came up with this a while back. Could very well be the same issue.
Let me start by saying I'm flash happy, and everyone that knows me personally, tells me to just quit jacking with my phone. NOT A CHANCE! I'm on my 3rd Cappy and shouldn't have ever exchange it again. I only had to in the beginning, because I was a newbie and had not know enough, but to get me in trouble.
I presume that this should work on all Windows OS's. I personally am running Vista Enterprise x86.
My symptoms:
Plug in phone to the usb and it there was about a 15% chance off being able to mount to usb, and Windows recognizing as a mass storage device. I tried un-installing drivers and re-installing and it would work some of the time, until the point came when parts of the driver install would fail. Then to the point when it was just completely unrecognizable. I thought I had it fixed because it seemed intermittent. In the middle of flashing to stock, something interrupted communication between the pc and my phone. Restarted the phone and attempted the flash again. Got a little farther and froze again. I had to use another pc that I had never connected my phone to before and I was able to use my jig to trigger download mode, because no buttons combinations would allow it into download mode.
This got me thinking that it was specific to my pc and not my cable or my phone.
My resolution:
I went straight to the registry and went to find. I deleted every entry that came up for "i897" and "i9000" excluding what was listed in the system volume information, as I didn't have permissions to remove any keys. I didn't keep count, but I probably deleted 300-400 registry keys that pointed to my phone. It seems as if with each developers rom that I had flashed, there was an entry for a different device. Don't quote me on that, because it is just my personal consensus. I also un-installed the samsung drivers, the unknown device driver, kies software, and anything associated with samsung. I noticed that next to all of the i9000 instances, the hex key for me started with 1000ee. So I also searched for the first part of that key trying to ensure that all instances of the device. Lastly, I deleted the samsung folder from program files.
I installed the samsung drivers package commonly listed in all of the other threads for x86 operating systems. I plugged in my phone and watched as each and every driver installed successfully. Keep in mind different drivers are installed depending on if you have usb debugging on/off, and the options for if the preferences on you phone are set to media, storage, or kies. I have multiple usb ports, however testing has shown me that, for me and my setup, I can plug into the port that I used when installing the drivers the final time, I am able to connect consistently. Earlier today, I tried to plug into a different usb port and it was an unknown device. I am led to believe, this is because I didn't un-install the unknown device on this particular port.
If you intend to work in the registry, please remember to always back it up first. You can always restore.
Hopefully my findings can help you as they did me. Happy flashing and I would like to thank the community for the dedication to assisting each other and the developers, for making flashing, better than crack cocaine. Flashing rom's doesn't make you twitch near as much as a crackhead.
Well since you can't use your phone you should sell it to me

[Q] Restoring Captivate from AT&T World Phone Screen

Hey folks. I'm hoping to get through this in one piece, with one walkthrough.
I recently messed up in flashing a Rom to my Captivate. It cleared the phone of firmware and left me with the AT&T splash screen.
I bought a jig, and am now at the "Downloading..." screen and am trying to take this slowly to ensure a properly functioning phone (I've been without for two weeks now).
I've read through the sticky post [link]http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364[/link] and have most of the downloads. The Odin link is dead, and I don't have the proper version (I used a version I later found out was bad).
What I'm hoping for is to get someone to show me where the proper version of Odin is, and maybe give me a quick guide to doing this for a Rogers Galaxy S Captivate.
I hope I'm not coming off as lazy, but I tried this solo, and it went awry. Thanks for any help in advance.
This is the link for Odin. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
You want to Open Odin, then use the jig to put the phone in download mode, connect usb to your computer and wait until odin recognizes your phone. Click Start and sit back and wait. You should then be able to put whatever rom you want on the sd card and flash
Okay. I got the proper download, and used Odin. It reported success.
I haven't unplugged the phone from the computer yet, but it's also not showing as a drive on my computer. I'm at the stage where I'm supposed to root the phone after using Odin and before flashing.
Should I unplug the phone, or is that going to send me back to square one?

If you used that Odin 1 click you will have the AT&T version, it will work but you will have the AT&T boot up screen. After it is finished your phone should reboot by itself. If it didn't try pulling the battery and then turn it back on.
Driver Installation Issue at Fault?
Okay, so I'm starting to wonder what's going on with the communication between my phone and my computer. I have the drivers, but when I try to install them (64 bit, for a dual-core, right?), it claims to fail.
I think maybe that this is the reason I can't get the computer to recognize the drive. Also, when plugged in last time, it said it failed to install drivers again. Even when the phone was operational, I had issues with that.
So . . . I'm wondering if maybe I solve that and the issue becomes seamless. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated, as it seems I'm stuck until I get the phone to register. Even Odin won't see it now, although I've already passed that step. F-Bomb.
Did you get the drivers right from samsung web site if not thats why they wont install i had same thing when i got my cappy.
I got drivers from.samsung.com installed em worked perfect sence. i kept the download saved had to install em a few times over the last 9 or so months. Only because of all the dam software hardware i run. Good luck

Just because it's a dual core processor in the computer doesn't mean you have a 64 bit OS.
You might want to know what version of windows you have...just a thought.
Okay . . . I can't seem to resolve this driver problem, nor can I move forward in the previous issue of getting my phone back to a functional state.
I can't imagine what I'm doing wrong that everyone else managed to avoid. Could I maybe request some one-on-one time with an experienced Rogers user? Just to recall the exact steps they took in order to successfully UNSCREW their phone.
Again, I appreciate all the help. Every post is making progress. I'm just frustrated at my ineptness with solid state installations.
I'm still not able to install the drivers or get my computer to register the phone as a drive. I did a bit more reading, but I've found nothing but different driver links. Has anyone else had this installation failure?
I have had driver problems before...try plugging up phone; on computer control panel, device managment , go to were it has device (just click then till se something about samsung) then uninstall drivers, next unplug phone, reinstall drivers that are on design gears (developer) thread for odin one click, next plug up phone sbf it will say new hardware and install drivers then see if that works... Ps if need to just pm me and I will get back to you to try and help

Computer doesn't detect P990 through USB

Ok guys I'm a noob around here. I've had my P990 for about 7 months and I'm ready to throw it against the wall:crying: I've been searching for info on this type of fault and I read that it happens pretty often. I really didn't have the need to plug my phone to my computer, so I never did, until about two days ago I decided I was bored with my stock phone and decided to install the latest version of android, so I downloaded the LG IV suite. Installed it, I'm following the directions, connect my phone and bam, NOTHING I kept getting an error on the LG suite, can't find phone, check connection and try again. At this time I also notices that my phone was charging through the USB cable. So my basic troubleshooting techniques kicked in, and performed the basic steps:
-Made sure Mass storage only box is checked
-Switched USB cable
-Re-installed the driver
-Downloaded the latest driver from LG website
-Downloaded drivers recommended by XDA
-Tried two other computers with two different OS
So none of this worked:crying:
After monkeying around for a couple of hours with my phone, I read somewhere on this forum to take out the battery, connect to USB cable to your computer, hold down the power and volume down buttons at the same time, this would put my phone in some mode, I don't know what that mode is, but decided to do it. My phone powers up, then I see the green android little man with a white box and an arrow coming out of the box. Ok, finish doing it's thing and then it reboots. I go into my phone and find that everything has been erased and the phone was back to it's original state when I received it over the mail.
Since my phone is back to stock, I decided to go the root road. Downloaded SuperOneClick, installed it connect my phone via USB and I'm back to step one. I get nothing!!! So then I decide to go the root flash road. So I downloaded the z4root adk file and put in the flash, pop the flash in my phone and nothing. Can't see my flash card on my phone (never used an SD card on my phone and decided to buy one for this instance). Kept reading on-line and found that I need a file manager application, so I installed Linda Manager on phone, opened the z4root adk file and installed on my phone. So now I'm getting very excited and I'm giggling like a school girl because I'm starting to see light at the end of the tunnel. So I run the z4root application and go with permanent selection, the application start the root, then BAMMMMMMM. The application just stops and my phone takes me to my home page. I decide to restart the z4root application and I can't get the app to run. I re-booted my phone, restarted the app, and keep getting stuck. The app stops and I can't never successfully get a root. I'm out of ideas, I've going at it with my phone for two day and reading on the net.
The two thing I want to accomplish is to be able to use my phone via the USB cable and to root my phone. Can you guys point me in the right direction. At this point I'm willing to try anything on my phone since everything got erased.
by the way here's is what stock I'm running on my phone:
Android version: 2.2.2
Baseband version: 1035.21_20110725
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Built number: FRG83G
LGE version: LGP990-V10d
My computer is running Windows Vista, I also tried a Window 7 and a Windows XP computer and still nothing for the USB.
I would appreciate any help guys, throw me a bone over here:laugh:
Same thing happened to my friend. No USB detection (the phone was charging through usb but nothing showed up on the pc). He tried everything then he called me (I have o2x too) , i tried everything you did too. His pc detected my o2x , but when he connected his (on the same cable) ... nothing .
Finally he remembered the phone had warranty and took it to tech suppport. First they reflashed it , but when he tried it home ... nothing . He took it to support again , they kept it for about 10 days and told him they had to change the motherboard.
Phone works now.
He was on stock froyo too , Vodafone Romania version.

Sorry for the bump, but I got some update.
when dialing the above mentioned 1809#*990# in the Port menu, switching from default AP USB to AP/CP UART gave me life signs.
After switching to AP UART I linked the Unknown device driver to lgusbdiag.inf located in C:/ProgramFiles(x86)/LG United Mobile Driver.
Suddenly it started installing it and is now recognized as: LGE Platform Android USB Device.
Once disconnected I lose USB again, I'm able to recreate the first steps though even in default AP USB mode by now.
The only thing I need USB for is for flashing a custom recovery but the only thing I don't have is ADB somehow : / Clockwork telling me: device not found.
Any help on this one?

Help??
A very good friend of us noobs toying with our O2x's are Paul O'Brien.
I could not get any other flashing tool to root my O2X other than his. Here is link to his guide:
modaco.com/topic/335474-25-mar-nvflash-stock-rom-release-v10b-dated-1300166062-15032011/#entry1645587
He also has the tool to completely restore your O2X back to factory standards, and in the O2X forum here you will find all the different stock roms, you need to get your phone back to these factory standards and restore your warranty.
After you flashed your phone and get ready to try all the marvellous ROMs, waiting on the other side, I can only recommend to purchase the PRO version of Clock Work Mod, it really brings out the fun in rooting your phone.
Seeing your description of your troubles, I think you have softwareproblems, more than hardware problems, so a complete flash and maybe restore, will likely solve many if not all of your problems.
Best regards
Mike
And dont forget to show your support to the developers, they do a marvellous job for us!!!
Thanks mike,
I followed the link you provided and did a lot of reading. So decided to try that method. No luck with that, my computer doesn't detect APX mode while holding down both volume keys. I tried it like 10 times every time holding the keys at different intervals. I even tried it on my wife's laptop running windows 7, didn't work either.
I did find a lot of good info on the link you posted.
Thanks, just waiting on my new O2x to come in the mail.
Possible solution
Some days ago, I also had a problem connecting my LG Optimus 2X to my PC (Windows 7).
I solved my problem using this instructions I found in the G2X forum, by conspirator_boff user (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15899923&postcount=10)
Similar issue. This worked for me on Win 7.
Uninstall the LG Drivers and reinstall the G2x 2.2 package from LG.COM /us/support/mc-support/mobile-phone-support.jsp (I can't post links)
Plug the phone in and go to Device Manager. There should be a USB Composite Device that is not properly installed. Right click it and select Update Driver Software.
Select 'Browse my computer', then 'Let me pick'. Choose have disk, and browse to where the LG Drivers are installed. Likely C:\Program Files\LG Electronics\LG United Mobile Driver\ and select lgbus9x.inf.
Then pick LGE Android Platform Composite USB Device from the list of drivers. Should be the top option. Hit next.
I let it sit for a minute while the drivers installed. Some things registered in device manager right away, the LGE USB Modem for one. But, the drives didn't. Unplugged the phone, plugged it back in, and the drives popped up under Portable Devices.

I think it's an issue from the newest LG Drivers because when I first tried to connect it a year ago I had no problems.
Hope it helps.

Remember Paul also has tools for bringing your phone back to factory standards, so you keep your warranty.:good:
Enough said, good luck and remember our O2X is probably one of the easiest phones to try out different ROMs at and I have never enjoyed this little gadget as much as after I flashed it!!:

Fixed
Sorry guys for the late update.
I received my new P990 about two weeks ago. As soon I pluged the phone into my computer it started installing the drivers and I was able to use my phone via the USB cable. Another thing I noticed, on this new phone when I pluged the USB cable, I noticed it went in nice and firm, on my old phone the cable seemed to be a little loose. Anyway it was definately a hardware issue with my phone. I'm pretty happy with 2x.

[Q] HTC One thinks its a galaxy note 3 on multiple ROMS

well, as the title says. Its been like this for a few months now, so I decided reinstall the ROM. I've tried different ROMs and every time it shows up as SM-N900s (Galaxy Note 3) in windows. However, on the phone under settings, it says HTC One. On the newest insertcoin ROM it came up in windows as HTC ONE on first boot, but after that, it went back to being the SM-N900s. As well, I always make sure to do a full wipe before I install a new ROM. I checked the build.prop and it list the model ID as HTC ONE so I have no clue what could be going on here. maybe someone here has a suggestion? I'm thinking maybe this is a possible cause of my mediaserver problem that I just couldn't fix, since it happened in every rom I've tried. phone is rooted, unlocked, and S-OFF.

Its most likely a driver issue on your computer, nothing to do with the phone imo. Uninstall these Samsung drivers and install HTC drivers.
didn't work. removed all traces of samsung drivers and software from the drive and the registry, but still comes up as SM-N900s. I Don't get it. There must be some root cause that's creating all the strange (though minor) issues on my phone.
@bbmaster123 install the latest HTC sync manager after uninstalling every older driver version.. do a full reset if that's possible. Do you end up having this problem with every custom Rom that you flash?
It's not a widely reported issue which leads me to thinking that it's more about your computer than your phone.
Still says sm-n900s after installing sync manager. While I haven't tried many custom roms, it still said smn900s in all the rims I've tried, regardless of kitkat or lollipop. I'll try using my brothers laptop tomorrow when he comes to visit and let you know how it goes

See question 2 here about how to force the HTC driver, this is a driver problem, the 2nd link below is another guy who recently had the same problem.

Thanks, I never would have found that!
My phone already comes up as My HTC in device manager when running normally. in any other mode it comes up as android composite usb. It does try and fail to install some driver during boot though, however it only lasts for about 3 seconds, so I have no time to install anything. as well, fastboot boot recovery.img never worked for me anyway, so instead I always just flashed my recoveries. So I can't get my computer to trigger that driver installer besides rebooting the phone, unless you know a way. But yeah, you may be right about it being my pc and not my phone (for this problem anyway).

Ignore that HTC MTP driver thing that pops up on you computer whilst your phone is booting, we all get that.
fastboot boot recovery command no longer works unless you are on HBOOT 1.44 I think was the last time it worked, only way to do it now is to flash recovery files.

I don't think my phone even shipped with hboot 1.44. Or maybe it did. what the hell do I know. I guess then I'll have to wait until I can access my brother's pc later today to test it out
Well, turns out you were right all along. its my computer's fault. I guess I'll just have to mess around with the drivers. Thanks for the help! Too bad though, I was hoping that was the root cause of all the other annoying issues on my phone... oh well I guess I can live with unlocking my phone to change songs!

Get yourself into device manager and add/remove programs, and remove everything to do with your HTC, the trouble is, windows is a pain for still remembering and self installing the driver again upon reboot, so before you restart your computer, unplug your phone, restart your computer, and look up or get a driver cache cleaner for you PC, run that then restart again, now try reinstall the drivers, drivers firtst ie HTC Sync Manager and then plug your phone in.
I finally fixed it just by uninstalling HTC driver installer and plugging my phone back in. windows right away installed:
USB Composite device
HTC One
My HTC
usb mass storage device
HTC Sync manager serial interface
HTC Android Phone USB Device
I probably am going to fresh install windows anyway, been meaning to for a while, but at least I got this one solved. thanks for the help seanie!
I guess I should make new individual threads for my other phone problems, eh? I got the mediaserver battery drain issue, ACR doesn't record anymore for some reason, and the music controls on my lock screen stopped functioning.

I guess your on Lollipop, The media server issue can be sorted by going into settings - developer options - use NuPlayer (experimental), uncheck it and restart, not sure about the other issues, but it may be worth reflashing your rom and starting fresh.
As for re-installing Windows, prepare for Windows 10 or download the beta of it, when it goes RTM you can use your windows 7 or 8 key to activate it, and it totally rocks, ive been using it as my main driver now for 3 months.
I'm running kitkat (I like it better) and that option isn't under developer options. The only options I've changed under there are enabling usb debugging(but of course) and force gpu rendering. also using dalvik instead of ART, since in kitkat it was buggy, from what I've heard. I do want to also start a fresh install of the same rom, but I just haven't found the time. I did try reinstalling the rom and restoring my data with Titanium Backup, but it just ended up restoring the problem too. For now, I've just been using system tuner to kill mediaserver right after boot, and the problem goes away until next boot.
I have windows 10 build 10130 on another drive and have been testing it since the first TP, and I agree, its pretty sweet, but I'm not 100% sure yet that I'm gonna switch over to it as my main OS on my main PC. I will be definitely updating my windows 8.1 recording computer to Windows 10 as soon as it goes RTM.

Not heard of the media server bug on KitKat soz.
Still don't like the Windows 10 start menu live tiles, but Start10 fixes that.
I've been using classic start, but I always have to keep switching back to the stock start to launch modern apps, which I only barely use, just stuff like calculator and settings

bit off topic really, but see the picts below:
cool, then I'll have to give it a try. Much more like the win7 start menu than win10's stock menu.
