can anyone know a way that actually works to expand x8 memory? mounts2sd, cronmodscripts, a2sd xdata ? i've tried loads of roms with all of these ways but i always end up in bootloops or FC's. Link2sd is actually not so useful since it keeps much things in internal so you quickly get insufficient storage messages. So i need someone that has tried something that works
I didn't create ext partition on my SD ever but my friend did this (1gb ext for SD) and now he's got 1.2 gbs of internal which is showing up in apps storage :-| :-/ (look for online guides)
I personally prefer android's native app to SD, the only problem with this is some apps don't move to SD(failed to move message) but you can force them to move to external by an app like system tuner or system cleanup (root required):thumbup:
Hope that I could help you

Mounts2sd. Just be sure you have a fast sdcard.

I had a whole bunch of questions but I answered a few myself.
One thing I'm still wondering about though is how to get apps/games like Caligo Chaser who download additional content to the /sd folder which is the INTERNAL SD to store that data in /sd/external_sd the EXTERNAL SD.
I wanted to do it by symlinking but then I found out both the internal and the external are fat32 formatted.. so that doesnt work.
I searched google and this forum but I couldnt find any good information on this.
This should affect many apps which download/store stuff on the "SD".
Can you set the "default" data storage directory or something? Or would you have to change the mounts so that the external is /sd and the internal gets a new name?
When I move apps to the SD via application settings they are really put on the external_sd.. so that works.. but why can't the additional (usually bigger too) data be moved to the external too?
Please please this bugs me so hard, someone try to answer this one please.
bump because i changed the whole thing
I believe its a android design. Not everyone has a sd nor should they need to. I guess Google relized that 2gigs is not enough for apps and data so in froyo you can move apps to sd card if it supports it. You can't move data as it could lead to problems when you remove sd card. As far as i know the galaxy s is only phones with more then the stock standard 2gigs of internal ram.

I've formatted my sd card with Rom manager, 512MB on the ext partition, and 32MB on the swap.
Then I installed LiquidSense 2.2.1, which has A2SD built-in...so far as I can tell.
So I've installed a bunch of apps I had before (I was running LiquidSense 2.1 and was running out of room...down to ~20MB internal). And I have over 100MB free, but when I install a few apps, my internal memory still drops a little. I started with ~124MB free. Does a small part of the app still take up space on internal?
So is there a way to check where the apps are actually residing? Also, I pushed a few apps...Mail.apk and the htc bookmark widget...to /system/apps, so are they on internal or on sd? Can I move them to sd if they are internal?
Thanks for the help. I hope this isn't a repeat question, I searched for a way to verify app installation location and didn't come up with anything.
Apps will still take up some amount of space in the internal. Like the kindle app goes from 6 megs to about 4.

With Apps2SD, the application is moved from the /data/app directory to the /sd-ext partition, but the userdata is still stored internally in the /data/data directory.
Edit: Also the dalvik cache is still stored internally.

Thanks for the responses. That makes sense that some data is stored internally. I don't suppose there's a way to browse the ext partition of the sdcard? Using Astro, I don't see a way to see a different partition, but maybe I'm just missing it. Also, the internal /data folder is empty. That didn't seem right.
I'm currently using GingerCruzt 7.4
I saw Ext3.ko and Ext4.ko under /system/lib/modules/ i was wondering:
If i partition my 16GB SDcard to FAT32 and Ext3/4, would my internal memory increased like App2sd on Eclair does?
Or it's just gonna be wasted space?
Then i just repartitioned my sdcard(my sdcard was parttioned 12GB(data),1GB(Ext2),500mb(swap)) to 1GB(ext3) and the rest is FAT32 and nothing's happened, my internal memory remained 255 mb, is there any wrong steps i took?
bump bump bump
Moving apps to SD (whatever partition) frees up internal memory space as apps are installed there by default. By freeing up internal storage, your phone gets somehow faster
does it means it's doesn't show up as internal memory, but does the same thing as Eclair App2sd?
You can see the app in 'app managemet' on SD tab. The app will work the same except for widgets won't show up.

With GC or most of custom roms, you have only to create an ext2/3/4, then system recognizes your ext partition and installs your new apps directly there.
Then you just have to normally install apps on phone, and they'll go "silently" in the ext partition of the sd .
You can check if it works by going in the /sd-ext by a file explorer and see if there are folders inside (they should be 4). If everything is correct, you should find your apps installed in /sd-ext/app.
Please note that of course your total internal memory space won't grow up.
Apps will be simply installed in the sd-ext, leaving your internal space free
i dont know if is a bug or what , but my app2sd work's without ext partition in my sd card, my apps go to .android_secure folder in my sd card, is that normal ?
Hi I have Squadzones CyanogenMod 7.2.0 RC5 and I tried to partition my SD card for using one of the apps to make internal storage bigger.
So I have a 2Gb SD card and want to use 512Mb for Increasing internal storage, Dalvik cache, System apps and all other apps (But I want system to think they are internal, know what I mean?) and then 1.5Gb for External Storage so I can use it for Music, downloads, pictures, videos etc... Basically the space my PC can see.
So what settings should I choose in CWM and which app is the best for increasing internal storage????
Thanks in advance
first partition sd card on pc using a partition manager like Easeus partition manage, minitool etc. Format the partktion by either FAT or ext3 file system. Now,download a free software from android market called 'link2sd'.
Advantage of using this is that you can select which apps to move to sd or which to not.You can also link any apps to sd-ext partition.
If I helped helped you press thanks.
If I use this how much space will I have left to store music and such or will this use let the whole 2 Gb be used and then use some of that for storing cache and such

If you have a 2gb card you can make a partition (for eg.512mb ext3 partition)by using the above mentioned ways. You can only link any application to that partition only. However you can force move any app to sd card by using link2sd.In that case some software may gets functionless if they are not meant to move to sd(here you can apply 'link'function of link2sd.)
Advantage of link2sd over darktreamer app2sd or s2e is that you can select which part of the app (app, data or delvic cache) should be linked to sd.Moreover it is the most easiest method.
I did everything in tutorial to increasing internal memory in my Galaxy Ace (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2412319).
Everything worked properly but after linking app to the 2nd partition it doesn't reduce size of the app in internal memory at all. I kind of don't understand how the whole moving/linking works or where I made mistake, so sorry if it's so obvious.
(Sorry for my bad English, still learning.)
same here
1.
The apps use data/data, data/app, data/lib all of which are on phone memory (system), internal memory is the storage space built in to the phone for your music, game dlc, vids etc. Link2SD allows you to move app and lib and replace them with a 0kb symbolic link and moving the actual files from system to external sd thus saving space.
To move the data/data requires Link2SD plus and this is where the majority of the app is.
Foldermount allows you to move data from internal sd (not phone memory like Link2SD) to external sd. I haven't tested if it'll link system folders.
I hope that clarifies a few things.
