[Q] GT-P1000 7" brightness not adjusting. - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
Samsung Tablet 7" GT-P1000 was dropped and it would not power except the 4 four control buttons on bottom.
Changed display and digitizer (touchpad) and working o.k.
However brightness settings adjustment is not working both auto adjustment *and* manual adjustment. After booting, a slight variance is seen during manual adjustment but it still saves on bright. Second try no variance is seen during or after manual adjustment. Thus brightness remains fixed (battery is drained especially when reading and it is very uncomfortable to use).
Flashed from Froyo to Gingerbread firmware 2.3.6 to no avail.
Any suggestions please?
thanks and regards

Auto Brightness problems?

Auto brightness seems to behave very unpredictably--when I wake my phone and unlock/use it, it will remain at dimmest setting (too dim), and will seemingly randomly move to a more appropriate brightness (not with intense activity, it's really random), and will again randomly revert to dim setting (not with stoppage of activity).
Is auto brightness messed up with android or the note, and how can I fix it? Just set a manual brightness level?
Running cassie x lite rom and latest franco kernel btw.
No advice about this anyone?
Automatic brightness issue
Hello Friends, I have a similar problem as the OP, octavian90.
For my Galaxy Note, following the sequence below,
Applications > Settings > Display > Brightness
By default the slider for Automatic brightness is towards the middle/centre.
I have unchecked Automatic brightness and calibrated the slider to the extreme left.
I have come across the following strange observations -
1] When I unplug my device after charging, the slider resets to the default level.
2] After I recalibrate it to the extreme left once again and make a phone (voice) call, the slider resets to the default level over again.
Is this normal behaviour or does my device actually have a problem? I am very confused and worried. The device is not even a month old.
Eagerly awaiting your expertise. Thank you octavian90 for initiating this topic.
Friends, awaiting your much needed replies to my queries above.
Have you disabled the screen saver or what its called that adjust the brightness automaticly.? Works like a auto brightness but it can adjust some things brighter and some dimmer eaven on same light....
I just checked my settings and the have the slider all the way to the right because last time I manually adjusted brightness for reading in full daylight. It is currently on automatic brightness (I prefer that setting and don't find it changes too often or too laggy)
I just then manually adjusted slider to about 20% from left while on USB charge then turned automatic back on again. I then removed charger and it still shows automatic and slider about 20% from left.
Could be a ROM/Kernel issue? I am using Rocket ROM with Franco Kernel.
I don't think the position of the slider matters when backlight is set to auto. Or does it?

No it doesn't matter when on autobrightness. But it should remember the last manual setting chosen so not sure what is causing that glitch.
Hm never really paid attention to the behaviour of the slider. I will take a look and report back how mine works.

What I found out: On my device the position of the slider before activating auto mode is completely irrelevant because as soon as I activate the auto mode the slider is reset to its middle position.

Interesting - just turned autobrightness of and you are right - slider went to the middle. Must be by design then. Problem solved

Sorry SoonHD2, I did not understand what you meant. I am confused with the screensaver part you stated.
A humble request for an explanation, if required. Thank you.

This happens with my Galaxy Note as well. Thus, it seems like it is meant to be this way.
I will keep an eye on this and report if and when the Auto brightness slider acts differently.

Nook HD Brightness Control

Wondering if anybody else has encountered any problems with the Nook HD brightness control.
My almost new unit now will not allow me to set the brightness above about 55%. Moving the slider control over 55% results in a dim screen - and to go back to a 'bright' screen requires me to move the slider back to 0% and then increase back up again. The 55% setting looks pretty bright which makes me wonder if the hw has somehow lost the backlight calibration.
The above occurs both under stock B&N and CM10 - so I don't think it's a CM problem - likely my HW.

I wasn't having the same issue but I was having a brightness problem on my HD today and this thread helped:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38756161#post38756161
I flipped the bit from a 1 to a 0 and now my brightness is able to be controlled again. What was strange is that the "1" apparently represents the "auto" mode and when I went to settings, the box was not checked and not able to be toggled. So I'm guessing that something got funky and the bit flipped. The 0 certainly has fixed it though. I had to download the app for $3 to fix it but totally worth Leapinlar's efforts.

[Q] Can't change screen luminosity (new screen)

Hi,
I change my sgs i9000 screen after breaking it.
Everything works fine but I can't change any screen parameter: luminosity (locked to a high value), color tunning (colors, gamma)... The screen can display several luminosity values (locked screen vs normal screen for example) but android settings (both in manual or automatic mode) doesn't affect it.
This high locked luminosity consumes a lot of battery :-/
After trying several roms and kernels (remics jb 2.0 & 3.1, c-rom mix v11) with all wipes and verifying luminosity sensor behavior I think the screen is responsible for this problem. I also tried to change luminosity with a dedicated app but no result.
Have you ever heard about such defective sceen or screen settings problem ? Any idea to reduce luminosity ?
Thank you in advance.
Regards.

MeMo Pad ME572c fluctuating brightness

Just picked up an ME572c and I'm very impressed for the price. However I have noticed the screen brightness levels keep fluctuating as if the light sensor is constantly detecting different light levels.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi,
i notice this too, but that can be related to the power saving mode. Plz turn it off and check the settings in detail. Maybe that helps.
Further inside the developer options there is another option to configure the auto brightness.
You can change the behaviour from dynamic to immediately or slow mode and active an onscreen lux, gain and brightness value display.
Btw i am not satisfied with the auto control, as for my taste the brightness is still too low in a less lighted room. Sensor is reporting 0 lux already with a brightness of 14 which would be ok for a really dark room & night but not at daytime.
What is your experience?
I tried playing with power saving mode and the auto brightness controls in developer options. While I could reduce the fluctuations, I could eliminate them completely. Unfortunately I found it too distracting and returned the device earlier today. It's a shame as everything else was quite impressive for the money.
I also found the fluctuations annoying, my solution was to turn the auto-brightness off. Honestly I dislike auto-brightness on any device, it was also one of the first things I turned off on my laptop.
I am using Lux app now and raised minimum brightness at 0 lux. Thats ok for me now.

Just bumping this to confirm this works and so that others can see. I used Developer options as well (before I found this post) and noticed the instant setting works best.
One more setting to also double check... Make sure that in developer options under auto brightness that you disable allow change gain...
Even with everything disabled it appears as if something still is changing the display. I particularly see it with something like a reddit browser when I'm viewing pictures. You click the pic, it loads and displays and then 1-2 seconds later the display adjusts based upon what is being displayed. Depending upon the picture it can be pretty annoying. I may have to root and start poking around to find out what is causing this.
with the lollipop update this issue is fixed for me.
Is lollipop really solve the problem?

Hello!
Im on lollipop, but the problem you had, still occur at me.
Did you noticed this problem, since you on lollipop?
I have the same problem. When i read, or browsing, the brightness changes in 2-3 steps.

Contrast settings and manual brightness issues

The first issue regarding contrast settings is that on 10.2.28 at least, if I set the phone to "standard contrast", sometimes upon waking it, it forgets that setting and looks exactly as if set on "automatic contrast", even though standard is still checked. Just confirmed this as my screen looked rather blue, changed to "automatic" and it remained identical, then I changed it back to standard and it finally got the desired white balance. The point of "standard contrast" is that it should be CONSTANT, not ever changing... I've got the phone 4 days ago (enjoying it overall) and I've got to ask if this has been an ongoing issue or is it new in 10.2.28?
The second issue is that with auto brightness OFF, the phone still bumps to max manual brightness when the sun shines directly on the sensor. It's not as annoying as the first issue but I'd rather it would not do that. This is how the mi 9 behaved since release or just a new bug?
Ultimately, can you guys point me to the most effective way of reporting bugs to xiaomi?
I'm on the same rom version... I don't have any issues with contrast changing like you said but I'm on increased contrast at all times... There's no way of disabling the screen boosting brightness in sun light regardless of auto brightness settings... It's sunlight 2.0 mode and actually boosts the brightness higher then the max on the brightness slider.
