I have a very good signal from my operator, but I can't get more than 4 bars, no matter how good the signal is. I am not sure if it has always been like this, but I noticed it since I got the KitKat signal icons (the non filled bars are much more visible). How good should a signal be to get 6 bars? My Sensation has full bars with the same signal strength. Can somebody guide me to tweak the values of db to show correctly signal strength?

Ok did some more testing. I had sku_id set to 42. I switched to 10 and now I have full bars, but I get those ugly GSM icons. Is there any solution?

Wohooooo! Finally solved it. I took the default.xml from the gsm version of the InsertCoin 4.3 ROM and compared the change swith the ElipticOne ROM. Changed a few lines and now I have the international icons and 6 bars finally. This also means that NOT ONLY sku_id affects the way signal is shown, there are some other lines in default.xml, which play a role
I'll post the modified KitKat default.xml in case anyone wants it. You'll have to change the extension to .xml first

@elvisypi, can you tell me what are the lines that you changed in the default.xml file, because i have sense 6 and your file is for sense 5.5, i tried comparing the the two files and did some changes but it resulted in a messed up phone (sense dosen't load, 0 bars, says "sprint" in operator area), luckily i did a full backup before making the changes.

Hi folks, just noticed that my girl friends HTC One says H+ but mine only says H.
We are both on Tmobile 3G but her CID is ORANG001 and mine is generic HTC001. Could this the reason why mine only shows H? and has difference options under Network?

Just measure the downloadspeed of both phones with Speedtest.net on Google Play.
Looks like the 2nd one doesn't have LTE service. A TMO trait since most of their 4G is HSPA+ and not LTE....
Can't be as both are 3G contracts.. is there anywhere to check whether one of the phones is 4G and the other isn't.. but then again 4G/LTE is listed on both..
I have ran the speedtest.. (see attached)
I have noticed that mine (that only reads H) had a longer ping time but better download and upload speeds. Whereas the one with ORANG001 CID has slower download and upload speeds but better ping time..

You are referring to TMo in the US, whereas the OP is in the UK, where TMo and Orange are brands within the same company, Everything Everywhere, currently the only operator with an LTE network in the UK.

This must be down to Orange interference.
The HTC_001 which I assume is the larger of the 2 images is the HTC unbranded generic rom whilst the ORANG001 is an Orange branded rom (basically the HTC build which Orange then screw up!)

Dude its nothing but the differnce in symbols coz of different Variant phones,
I use usa att htc one with 3g service but the symbol is shown as 4g and my friend has international htc one and uses the same service with same carrier and the symbol is show As H, but the performace and speed are same,
So it is nothin but just the difference in symbol interface according to the different variants of Htc one

Just for info 3G, H and 4G are not at all the same.
Go to settings > about > network > mobile network type
should read the same for both of your phone's with different symbols.
Symbols can be changed the actual network your connected to doesn't
I have att and 4g symbol is used for
Umts which is 3g hsdpa hsupa hspa & hspa+ the only way to tell which network the 4g is reffering to is to check settings

It's really bizarre.. I've been reading that the network want to restrict the download/upload etc which is achieved through thier own firmware (along with other restrictions etc)

I don't take any credit just posting,,,All credit goes to hotaru2k3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4572661) and Rimidal (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=1468774) for writing step by step and video
first off you need to be on stock sprint rom or base for this to work. also it will work on bad esn phones
1. You should be rooted
2. Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm
3. Run Terminal Emulator
4. Type "su" (excluding quotation marks) and grant it superuser permission
5. Type "am start com.redbend.vdmc/com.htc.omadm.test.TestMainActivity" (excluding quotation marks)
6. You will get menu on your HTC
7. In that menu, select "API", then scroll down 'till almost end and select "simlock"
8. Reboot the phone and hopefully it would accept GSM SIM
9. Enter *#*#4636#*#* in your dialer
10.In the phone information section(the first one) set preferred network type to something that is GSM specific: "WCDMA Preferred", for example. The phone will switch to GSM mode

It really depends on area. Read below:

which means that in areas where ATT uses 850mhz for HSPA(3g/4g) you will not get anything but edge/2g at best. And in areas where TMO uses AWS for 3g/4g... you will not get anything but edge/2g.
In areas where ATT has 3g/4g on 1900mhz you will be able to use it. And if TMO has 3g/4g on 1900mhz you will be able to use it.
ATT/TMO LTE will NOT work.

I don't see that as an option, but I did tried GSM only (didn't work), WCDMA only (didn't work), GSM Auto (PRL)(Didn't work), GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto (Didn't work)
If I choose any CDMA related ones, I get sprint signal, and I can call people, even though I have the AT&T sim card in.

TMobile sims seem to work better for some reason.
Make sure you have GSM Data checked in the network settings. Then you should be able to scan for networks.. see ATT listed.. click on ATT and it will try to register.

Hello everyone,
For the longest time I was not able to get LTE connection on my Note 4 international variant (N910F). I called T-Mobile about it, since I knew the phone had the capabilities to connect, and T-Mobile told me that I should have bought their phone if I wanted LTE, and that they could not help me.
Giving up all hope on LTE connection, I started installing roms to see what cool features where out there. I installed several different roms, and still I had no LTE (not that I was thinking of getting it). Then I installed CM12 and LTE appears! I check the speeds and indeed I was connected to LTE on T-Mobile line. Everything was great until I found out CM12 has three great bugs that I cannot live with: 1) No apps to SD possibility and 2) Access to the camera, from any app, crashes. I have to reopen the app a second time for the camera to function (Messenger has no access at all) and 3) Various app crashes.
So I returned to stock rom, but I miss the features of a custom rom (especially ViPER) and LTE. I tried other roms but I can't find any with LTE working.
Do you know what part of CM12 enables LTE? And if I can flash it into another more stable custom rom?
Thanks
With stock formware on N910F, the LTE icon is displayed as 4G. Try checking your connection again by going to Settings>About Device> Status... then under Mobile Network type.. you can see if you are actually connected to LTE.. There is also an app called Network Signal Info on play store. Good luck

Yup....
On international phones, LTE signal is represented by 4G icon. So if you see 4G on your phone, it's actually LTE. You were already getting LTE in the first place. You did not have to flash roms and void warranty.

marshmallows tmo apn is wrong, and is missing some info. the aon protocol should be set for ipv4/ipv6.
I had a similar issue where I had the slowest Internet in the world. Speed test show. 3 download and. 01 upload. I had to factory data reset in order for the speeds to return.

Signal via dBm is roughly the same for me on 6.0
Although today for a few minutes when I dropped out of an LTE area, signal bars said 3G. Not the H or H+ that I would normally see. My APNs are set properly, but did have to edit them to be so.
Maybe because this isn't a T-Mobile specific build is why it showed 3G. Because when I force 3G mode only , it shows H.
And my WiFi connect time is a bit slower as well. Instead of 2-3 seconds, it's definitely well over 10seconds to connect.

See that "Access Point Name" wasn't showing up in my settings, "CDMA Type" was what it had instead. After I upgraded to the latest LightROM, i now have that in my settings and signal is better. My guess is that marshmallow is having trouble deciding if you're on Tmobile

i'm using the 960F/DS, with an ATT CSC and i get HD Voice with both ATT and T-Mobile calls (i see the HD symbol on the Google Dialer/Phone). i've been very happy with my T-Mobile LTE cellular internet speeds in my low-signal coverage neighborhood. will test again and post results from current biz trip where T-Mobile has excellent coverage on internet speeds.

i didn't use the flash method; couldn't find a flashable file with an ATT CSC for the Note9. so...i extracted and copied-pasted the ATT CSC folder/files from ATT's most recent full ROM and manually edited the necessary dat files in the omc and /efs/imei folders on my phone. that being said, neither ATT nor T-Mobile WiFi calling and video calling work, but that's not an issue for me. i use the Google Dialer and Duo for video calls.

Clever.
I have both working but I need speed more than voice lte since I barely talk on the phone
And use what'sapp
T-Mo cellular internet speeds in DC... Remember this is with an AT&T CSC configuration on my dual SIM note 9, with TMobile SIM selected for calls, text and data.

thanks for the link; i figured out the codes shortly after posting my message.
Rather than turning off band that provider might actually use in some situations, try turning off band that you possibly won't use, like band 39, or whatever.
See if that fixes preference to band 4, while still maintaining band 12 for odd situation.
I'm only saying this, because in Canada for provider freedom, band 66 is the fastest, and international phones actually prefer to connect to band 4 which is the slowest for this particular provider. Since we don't have access to modem settings since oreo, I found that disabling any of the unused bands (30,46,39 whatever), brings back proper behaviour like Canadian model counterparts, choosing band 66 majority of times, while still maintaining band 4 for building penetration.
Just try, give a few minutes, check on *#0011#, see if you're still defaulting to 12, or something else with more throughput, might work, might not.
