You will need to go to the KFSOWI thread where there is a restore tool and restore to stock. 2013 and 2012 are different.

if you wanna, you can just do this:
Using Root Explorer, to move or delete this file /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip.
Thanks so much! Have you done this?

No. I don't think we need close the update access.
I'm giving this a try: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper&hl=en
Worked fine in the past with my HTC EVO. It says it will work with anything that runs ext4 (the kindle does).

Yes we do, to keep root. My kindle is set up perfectly for what i want it for and dont want amazon to be able to mess with my kindle. I was hoping it was as easy as adding .bak and the end of some file.

It's true, if they have a ota you will get an notification about it and then you choose to install it or not, if you don't install it there is only a notification nothing else

It may be that OTA RootKeeper will allow over the air updates, and still let you keep root.

It certainly may have changed, but this isn't how it worked with the original KF. When Amazon pushed OTAs they automatically updated the the os. There wasn't even a notification that they were sending the update. I remember watching my KF turn on all by itself and then reboot while wondering what the heck was going on.

I appreciate everyone's input. Mine updated out of the box automatically with no option. That said, can we stick with the original topic please. Anyway to avoid system updates?
Thanks
Any ideas to avoid updates?
Anyone know how to stop amazon updates? They will force one on us soon and i dont want it. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated

You can use this guide to set individual apps to tablet mode, very easy and painless to do as long as you have root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2205834

thanks for all the response. I am quite happy with stock ROM actually, espesically newest Google update 4.2.2 has been great battery life and fixed a lot of issues. so I am kind of not into mode to flash a different ROM so just get tablet UI mode. I know you can modify build.prop, but again it does not quite works from app to app.
i was kind of asking around and see if anyone has some other solution, preferably a safe method that does not mess up system files (and OTA update fails when there's new release Google pushes!).

never mind, figured out what was wrong - in the "Part four" step, I assumed that documentation has not been updated and was trying to flash with 'boot/11325-boot.img' instead of boot/11310-boot.img. After changing to boot/11310-boot.img it seems to work

Just bought a tf701t tablet. It came with 4.2 I was able to disable the white default syustrm theme and use standard android colors. Then the update for 4.3 came. Settings stayed. Then this morning the 4.4 update installed now I'm back on this white theme? And the option is gone to disable it?
Anyone know what I'm talking about here?
Thanks.

Nope!
I haven't seen anything like that in 4.4. I had to decompile the frameworkres.apk and systemui.apk and change the colours that way but if you are doing that you may as well load cromi-x. So no way to change them unless you can find an app for root that works with the asus framework which I doubt.

Quick question. I have the tf701t. Is cwm comparable and the ROM? So far I've just unlocked boot loader and rooted.

Sweet I'll have a look tonight. I'm familiar with all this flashing stuff. On my 3rd tablet nexus 7 and 10 and 4th phone android. Galaxy s3 s4 and moto g.
Surprised there isn't more Roms and kernels, such a bad ass device, or am I missing something ? Hahahahh. but after a quick read I see the targa 4 drivers are extremely difficult to code.
Thanks again.
