I was messing around with the ONE-click-lag-fix thingy on this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8353541#post8353541
someone posted a "fix"
""you can fix the jpk issue by doing this:
after the failure, reboot the phone.
then with root explorer delete the file linux.ex2 in folder /data/ext2 this will give you back the space
open terminal emulator on phone and type:
su
busybox mount -o remount,rw /system
press home button and reapply the lagfix.
wait...
profit!"
So I went into my phone in /data and found linux.ex2 (although it wasn't in /ext2 it was just in /data) and I deleted it
and used the terminal commands etc.
I reset my phone and it books into the logo then turns black and turns off
I don't have the 3 button recovery mode enabled... I have ADB and stuff though
WHAT do I do ?
Please oh please tell me I didn't brick my phone
Please tell me how to fix this and I will give you $50 or $100 paypal right away
If it is bricked, what do I do to go about getting it replaced ?
Try: adb reboot recovery
And try a factory reset
Otherwise, you can boot into download mode by: adb reboot download and flash via Odin.

Where do I get ADB again (im at work) is there a tutorial ?
btw if this works Ill need your paypal info
You can use mke2fs to re-create linux.ex2
Ex. mke2fs /data/linux.ex2
This could get you booted up again. Then you could uninstall/reinstall the lagfix.

ADB tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7239659&postcount=3
WAIT!!!!!!!: Before you do anything else!!! Look for /sdcard/linux.ex2 and see if it exists. This should be a backup that can be restored. Copy this back to data and you should be good to go. Might take a while to copy but it should work.

I'm fairly new -- this is the problem
What do you mean "look" for it ? I can't even open up my phone -- it goes black on the boot screen (i shouldn't have deleted linux.ex2)
So I would assume this would be done through ADB ? I'm downloading it now

I would need to know the commands to type to "restore" this file basically once I get ADB running
and if it works, please PM me your paypal info
I downloaded the android development SDK -- but when I ran it i got this: "Failed to fetch URL http://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/repository.xml, reason: dl-ssl.google.com"
Is this b/c I'm at work ? (firewall)
do I need to connect in order to use ADB ?
You said you have ADB so do this...hook up your phone and fire up a command window on you pc.
type in "adb shell"
this should get you into adb shell (duh).
next type "su"
Now enter the following one at a time on order. The last line will reboot your phone.

You don't need to run anything. Just download it and unzip the files to a directory on your computer like C:\android-sdk-windows
Then add the tools directory to you PATH setting
C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
Let me know if you don;t know how to do that and I will walk you through it.

Add C:\android-sdk-windows\tools to you computer's PATH...
- Open System Properties by right-clicking on My Computer
- Click on Advanced tab
- Click on Environment Variables
- Find PATH in System Varibles (bottom window) and open it for editing by either double-clicking or selecting it and clickin Edit button
- Scroll all the way to the end of the PATH string and enter a semi-colon ; at the end
- Paste the path to the sdk tools directory right after the semi-colon (C:\android-sdk-windows\tools)
- Click OK, OK, OK all the way out.
Now type "PATH" (without the quotes) in the command window and you should see the new path in the window. If not then close the window and open a new one. The tools dir should now be in the path and you are ready to use ADB.
You probably do not have have USB debugging enabled. Do you know if you eneabled that before or not? Also, did you make an nandroid backup before you started this?
And yes, it is because of Jesus Christ that I know this stuff.

I don't think I enabled it -- as this happened spontaneously -- is there any way to fix this ? or am I seriously screwed ?
Not screwed, there is always a way.
Try this, pull your battery to power down your phone and then put the battery back in but DONT power it back up.
Now you have to do this all at the same time...hold down the up and down volume buttons and press down the power button. Hold all three buttons until you see the black Vibrant screen. KEEP HOLDING the up and down volume buttons until you see the yellow diags screen and then the green recovery screen.
Using the up/down volume keys to move, select "Reinstall Packages" and press the power button to select.
Tell me what you see...
Hey guys,
I had a nasty issue with Bi-Winning a couple weeks ago where I pushed custom framework and totally forgot about permissions. Apparently when you don't set the proper permissions it can really slow things down.
So I figured this could easily be avoided. So because of that and our CWM "Fix Permissions" option doesn't really do anything, I wrote this script to fix it!
Upon every boot, it will scan /system/app, /system/framework/, and /data/app and set the proper permissions for all the files in there.
Users
note if you're on Trigger 2.9.1+ or Bi-Winning V1+ you do NOT have to do this. It's built into your ROM already.
Flash the attached zip named "CWM_Flash_Permissions_Script.zip"
Ironically, it may not have the correct permissions after you flash it, so then do either of the following
1) Do these commands in ADB to set the correct permissions
Code:
adb shell
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/stl9 /system
busybox chmod 777 /system/etc/init.d/*
or
2) Open up Root Explorer (or something similar)
navigate to /system/etc/init.d/
in there find the new file S30edt_perms
long press, and set the permissions
make it look like this
Code:
Here's the init.d script, it's really simple, but also effective
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
# Permission script
# Written by Einherjar Dev Team
# www.edtdev.com
logFile=/data/edt/logs/S30edt_perms.log
if [ -f $logFile ]; then
rm $logFile
fi
touch $logFile
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/stl9 /system
echo "Setting permissions" >> $logFile
for file in /system/app/* /system/framework/* /data/app/*; do
echo " setting permissions (644) for $file" >> $logFile
chmod 644 $file
done
echo "chmodding init.d folder"
chmod 777 /system/etc/init.d
for file in /system/etc/init.d/*; do
echo " setting permissions (777) for $file" >> $logFile
chmod 777 $file
done
echo "Permissions set" >> $logFile

[slight OT] Just getting wifi working on an old ideapad y510 in slackware was an epic struggle... (wicd my arse)
[back on topic] I wish more devs would post script contents (though we can easily download and look in vi or notepad)... it helps the learning curve immensely
grateful for all the work EDT and rest of dev community does. We all are.
Question: What does the fix permissions CWM do then?

Hmm, ok you might need super user permissions do this and let me knkow if it works:
1) type in "adb shell"
2) type in su (don't press enter yet)
3) turn your screen on & unlock it
4) press enter on the su prompt, then his yes on the screen
then try that chmod command again.

Oh crap, thanks for pointing that out man. Easy fix
do this
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/stl9 /system
busybox chmod 777 /system/etc/init.d/*
should work like a charm
by the way, next time you flash a newer edt rom, they already have this fix built in. since you overwrote the file, you'll need to run the above commands to set the correct permissions as they get messed up sometimes when modifying them.
That did the trick, thanks.
The script in the .zip says
Code:
# Permission script
# Written by Roman (birgertime)
logFile=/data/edt/logs/S30edt_perms.log
if [ -f $logFile ]; then
rm $logFile
fi
touch $logFile

for file in /system/app/* /system/framework/* /data/app/*; do
echo "setting permissions for $file" >> $logFile
chmod 0644 $file
done
echo "Permissions set" >> $logFile
Which is different than the OP. I'm confused.

Hey Roman, thanks for yet another improvement for this phone!
Simple question: can I just download and push the S30edt_perms.zip to etc/int.d? And is this any good for CM7 based ROMs? I just checked and that file isn't in my init.d folder on Trigger Redux.
Thanks!
Sent from my rough sketch of a Vibrant on a brick.
First off I take no credit for any of these instructions!! I did not make them and they were found at another area of the forum, I just thought since I used them to deodex my OLYEM_U4_2.2.3 that they may be of use to someone.
P.S. For step 5 there was no guava.odex, so if nothing show's up don't worry about; and I also changed the mount codes for step 10, these were out of my experience and just made things quicker.
You must be rooted!
Get xUltimate here.
Process:
1. Unzip xUltimate v2.2, and launch "Main.exe"
2. If everything goes well xUlt should recognize the phone and make a connection. You now should see a list of options.
3. Run option 1. After option 1 is done, run option 2.
4. Now these well take a while. Run option 3.
5. IMPORTANT: After you have run option 3, you MUST navigate to the xUltimate folder and find "origi_frame" folder, and delete "guava.odex". It's a bad file, and interferes with deodexing process.
6. Now run option 4, and wait.
7. Exit xUltimate, and put the phone in USB mass storage.
8. Go back into the xUltimate folder and copy "done_frame", and "done_app", and move them to the root of the sdcard.
9. Put the phone in PC mode
10. Open a command prompt, and do the following:
Code:
adb shell
su
stop
mount -o rw,remount /system/ /system/
cp /sdcard/done_app/* /system/app/
cp /sdcard/done_frame/* /system/framework/
rm /system/app/*.odex
rm /system/framework/*.odex
mount -o ro,remount /system/ /system/
reboot

Update:
The developers notes this on the OP. Figured what the hell and went ahead and tried it out. But when i press 3 i get "java" is not recognized and an internal or external command operable or batch file. So in english this means? I need Java SDK installed?
Update2:

No problem. Glad it worked.
Got the Java error. I already had it installed so I uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. Can you guys be more specific as to which you downloaded? I have win 7 64 bit so I did the bottom option here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk-6u26-download-400750.html
Did anyone choose differently? I'll try 32 bit as I wait for a response.

I ran into that as well... I treated it as if I ran out of space, so I reran the copy command: cp /sdcard/done_frame/* /system/framework/ . With the odex files gone it ran without issue.
But it looks like you copied and pasted the entire block. I did it line by line and only rebooted at the end (after my second attempt to copy those files).

Then you are not in as root. When you type "su" do you check the phone screen to see if it is asking for you to grant permissions?
i checked the screen when typing su but it doesn't ask me to give permission. I am in usb debugging and the usb connection is set as none.
hello, basically my question is that, how to apply the fix to a stock froyo rom...i think that it must be done trougth open recovery but i wanted to be sure. thankss
it can be done through the console of open recovery, or through a terminal editor if you have root.
edit: simpler way for stock roms
copy the dsifix.ko to your sdcard
mount the /system partition as read/write
run these commands:
Code:
cp /sdcard/dsifix.ko /system/lib/modules/dsifix.ko
chmod 644 /system/lib/modules/dsifix.ko
echo "insmod /system/lib/modules/dsifix.ko" >> /system/etc/rootfs/init.mapphone_umts.rc
correct me if im wrong, but the second directory, system/rootfs/, isnt that only for cyano based roms?? because in stock roms it doesnt exist. thanks for the reply.
ah you're right, sorry
hmm you could try using the 'install mods autostarts - not needed in many roms' script thats in androidiani openrecovery, and then running these commands:
Code:
cp /sdcard/dsifix.ko /system/lib/modules/dsifix.ko
chmod 644 /system/lib/modules/dsifix.ko
cd /system/etc/init.d
touch 1dsifix
echo "insmod /system/lib/modules/dsifix.ko" > 1dsifix
chmod 750 1dsifix
I'm not entirely sure this will work, but try it and see.
Hi,
to sum it up:
To use additional kernel modules (e.g. dsifix.ko) you need to tweak the startup scripts (e.g. init.mapphone_umts.rc)
To use tweaked startup scritps like modified init.mapphone_umts.rc you'll need a ROM that makes use of 2nd init process.
Stock ROMs do not use 2nd init, because it's a hacked feature and stock ROMs are usually not hacked
On stock ROM there's also no /system/etc/init.d nor /system/etc/rootfs directory, because they are no used there.
Hope this helps
P.S.: Don't know about this androidiani stuff ...
EDIT: Search button is so nice... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003338
Regards,
scholbert
great i will try this evening, thanks for the repliess.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
the androidiani mod enables 2nd-init, which means it checks for scripts in the init.d folder
that link is only for the display update fix, which causes tearing, not for the kernel module fix thats popped up recently. However, we can modify coldsphinx's instructions to suit our purposes.
as usual, you'll need to move the dsifix to /system/lib/modules
Code:
cp /sdcard/dsifix.ko /system/lib/modules/dsifix.ko
chmod 644 /system/lib/modules/dsifix.ko
then rename the mot_boot_mode file to mot_boot_mode.bin
Code:
mv /system/bin/mot_boot_mode /system/bin/mot_boot_mode.bin
then create the file /system/bin/mot_boot_mode
and add this to the file:
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
export PATH=/system/bin:$PATH
mot_boot_mode.bin
insmod /system/lib/modules/dsifix.ko
and then finally set the permissions
Code:
chmod 755 /system/bin/mot_boot_mode
it will work.
GReat! thanks!
1.use kitchen extract rom from N7000ZSLO2_N7000OZSLO2_N7000XXLSO_HOME.tar.md5, then deodex rom.
2.copy android.policy.jar to sdcard.(android.policy.jar is unmodified.)
3.use dexopt-wrapper reodex ,get android.policy.odex.
4.copy android.policy.odex to /system/framework/android.policy.odex and set 644 permissions
5.reboot device and stay at samsung logo frame
now,How to deal with this problem? help, thx.

What Rom are you using?
But more important: Why do you want to do this?
If you using a deodexed rom, you don't need an odexed jar

in framework folder, all is odex.so if i want to modify a jar, must need an odex file.i want to update file as little as possible.

Is there a reason you're copying the .odex signature to /data/local/tmp/odex/android.policy.odex instead of /system/framework/android.policy.odex ? With your script, /system/framework/android.policy.odex remains unsigned.

sorry,In this thread,I write wrong.
The actual operation is "busybox dd if=/system/framework/android.policy.odex.bak of= /system/framework/android.policy.odex bs=1 count=20 skip=52 seek=52 conv=notrunc".but the result is same.
if=/system/framework/android.policy.odex.bak is input file.
of = /system/framework/android.policy.odex is output file.
copy .odex signature from /system/framework/android.policy.odex.bak to /system/framework/android.policy.odex.

So what you're doing is :
1. optimize /system/framework/android.policy.jar to create /system/framework/android.policy.odex
2. copy the signature from /system/framework/android.policy.odex.bak to /data/local/tmp/odex/android.policy.odex
3. copy /data/local/tmp/odex/android.policy.odex to /system/framework/android.policy.odex
Am I right ? If I am, you're deleting the .odex file created from android.policy.jar, and replacing it with another one.

Is the attached script the entire script ?
If it is, why are you only copying the .odex files from /data/local/tmp/odex/ to /system/framework/, and not android.policy.jar and framework.jar ?

You don't set the permissions for the files any longer. Is there a reason for that ? Permissions should be 644 I guess.

Hum, I personally don't find any error in your script then... Maybe this is due to an error in the new files (framework-res.apk, framework.jar or android.policy.jar). I guess you modified them, and maybe you did some mistakes :/

thx.
I tried to update files one by one.after update framework-res.apk is ok.android.policy.jar is fail.so I dont modfiy android.policy.ja.then optimized it. updating android.policy.odex refer to attached script(not including framework part).but device is NG.
I dont find a NG reason.

today ,I found a problem.dexopt-wrapper android.policy.jar and get android.policy.odex.Compare origial android.policy.odex,we fond dex's magic is different.origial android.policy.odex is "dex035", new origial android.policy.odex is "dex036".if i manually modify different,device is still stay.I guss if i manually modify different,odex's checknum is wrong.what do lead to new odex's magic change?is API Level ?

In dexFile.h :
Code:
/* current version, encoded in 4 bytes of ASCII */
#define DEX_MAGIC_VERS "036\0"
/*
* older but still-recognized version (corresponding to Android API
* levels 13 and earlier
*/
#define DEX_MAGIC_VERS_API_13 "035\0"
So yes, your dexopt-wrapper uses an API level >= 14 (ICS and JB), whereas your original ROM file must be older.

offical rom version is 4.1.2.so API level should is 16.but extract odex from device is 035.
