Question about underclocking DEV ED to save even more battery? - Moto X Q&A

Just rooted my DEV edition Verizon. Love it. Blacked Out most apps, just loving it. But of course I want to change things because I can.
Coming from my razr maxx 8xx ram and 1.2 I am loving the extra power and cores.... BUT.... My phone flies! How much better would battery life be if it was underclocked a bunch?
Also, is there kernel alternatives?
Thanks.
PS... Anyone questioning if they might get the moto X, get the dev edition. I feel like I am in phone heaven.

don't recommend doing it to much at all i know from just using the Enhanced Kernel a lot of people are having issues not being able to wake there phone up after hitting the power button to shut the screen off without having to restart there phone. so def be careful underclocking your device.

Droid RAZR MAXX

Just wanted to know what you guys think about the phone. I have my bionic but man the RAZR MAXX is pretty awesome to me for the battery life. Im thinking of getting that over the nexus. What do you guys think?

I do like it but its not enough of an upgrade. I'll wait until Motorola puts out something with a slightly larger HD screen, no buttons and ICS.

I would like to own the razr maxx. I think it has Li-Po battery right? Like the IPhones
Plus an over 3000 mAh battery.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I like it, but not enough to get it over the Galaxy Nexus. A locked bootloader is a locked bootloader and blur sucks. It also does not even have ICS, so don't hold your breath.
I just unloaded my nexus and am back to the bionic...with a rooted 901 it's not a bad phone. But that maxx would be killer for someone who doesn't like to worry about finding a charger. But as stated it really is more of a side step I think.
im sure it will get ics though. when it gets that ill compare it to the nexus
A better battery is always a plus, but I don't have many issues with my battery on the Bionic due to the fact that I charge it throughout the day (at my PC, in the car, before I sleep) and I use JuiceDefender.
I'm not sure how much better battery the MAXX has over the Bionic, but that definitely doesn't feel like much of an upgrade to me, either.
For 12 bucks I can buy a 3rd battery for my Bionic. Other then the lack of updates and rims for my bionic I love it. Oh yeah I can replace my battery the main reason I don't want an i phone from the get go. The bionic is still a beast.
the only good thing about the Maxx (aside from battery) is that itll make the original Droid Razr's price go down. I went to verizon and played with the galaxy nexus. While I love that its a Nexus device, the performance was identical to my rom'ed bionic so I might consider grabbing the Razr if the price is right
Not another one of these posts. Didn't we all go through this when the Razr was about to come out? Is this going to be a regular thing every time a new phone is announced?

Bionic Or Thunderbolt

Hey guys Verizon needs to replace my Thunderbolt and after so many replacements they offered me a bionic. Would it be a good choice over my Bolt? We have S-off and Unlocked bootloader.
Pros of bionic:
Dual core 1.0ghz
1gb ram
Lots of great devs
Cons:
Stock has blur
Locked bootloader
And it's moto so probably no stock ics for about a year
Sent from my MB870 using xda premium
another PRO for Bionic is killer long battery life since the .901 update, .902 is killer battery life also.
I uses to have the thunderbolt. The bionic is a much better phone.

Yeah this one's a no brainer. Get the bionic.
Regarding the above cons:
• Hexec workaround was recently posted allowing for custom kernels. This was really the last issue caused by the locked bootloader. In less than a month it will be old news
• There are CM9, AOKP, AOSP, and MIUI variants of ICS available now and improving daily. Who needs stock ICS?
My buddy has a tbolt and there's no comparison in the speed, responsiveness and battery life.

Well I told her I use the extended battery on my thunderbolt and told her that 4G phones have poor battery life. So she said ok free extended battery.
And now I'm getting $40 from a coworker for the thunderbolts extended battery and the verizon case I had.

I think the skilled developers are on Motorola though. Look at what these guys are doing with a locked bootloader. We got a handful of ice cream with a locked bootloader. How much more can they do if it was unlocked.

im part of a concession line and we get upgrades every year. best buy mobile has been treating me so well that i just ended up buying the bionic. i got a tbolt for free and it was a great phone but when bionic came out like 2 months later i bought the bionic. i got it for 230 at cowboom.com. thats were we send all our phones that we get returned or serviced. its EXTREMELY cheap. spread it. i love my bionic and i plan on selling it tho. im using my tbolt because i got the infected rom on it with beats. i like it but i kind of miss my bionic. either way rezound here i come!!
Why would you NOT trade your garbage 3G tBolt for a bionic? Even if you had the data issues with the bionic, it's 100x better.

Well so far I like it. Battery life is better then my bolt. I would get the bionic for sure. Also, just a hint tell them you saw online that to transfer data from your phone to the PC you need to Motorola USB cable just a heads up

Actually now that I've had it I would have taken a bolt again is so weird all this stuff you have to do to flash anything. And it seems lime the only roms out are ics which are ok but still too many things broken for me. And there are no stock like roms with alot of features like on sense. But I like the phone. I just had more options on the bolt being I'm a themer I want something solid I can theme. But the bolt was the best phone for everything. And my data connection and speed is the same on both phones.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
One thing though is the bionic screen and colors in it suck big time
And the rom selection on the bolt was crazy huge.

The phone is awesome. It is definitely smooth as butter IMO. I had the Note 2 previously and it wasn't near as smooth as the X. To me, it is right on par with the smoothness of an iphone. I highly recommend it to everyone who asks about it.

I've owned every big phone (GS4,HTC One, N4, etc) and I can easily say this is the best phone I have owned. Super smooth with every task and exceptional battery life. I have not had one frame drop in anything ui or gaming based so far. I would highly recommend it to anybody and I have most of my family upgrading to it.
I thought it was supposed to take a while to load facebook and games, this phone has no lag at all.
I've had the Galaxy S3, Note 2, and HTC One before the Moto X. For me, the Moto X has the best call quality and volume.
O have an Xperia S but I want to buy a MotoX it really worth to buy it? Or only for the camera should I stay with the Xperia S?

I'll stick with Samsung until they give me reason to leave but for a person that like the nexus this should be a great phone for them.

I will admit having to find the work arounds for the features I was used to from HTC (IE Facebook Contact Pictures) was a bit of a hassle.

Keep my X or go N5?

I'm tempted by the unlocked BL and wireless charging. But I'm not sire how I will feel about loosing touch less and active notifications.
Anyone have both? And have advice?
I'm not losing touchless controls over anything no mo'.
Why would I give up setting alarm in the bed without getting up.
I've got both, and I haven't used my Moto X since I got the N5. Touchless Controls are nice, but with my job, I really can't use them much

Wireless Charging sucks. Its slow. I love how fast the Moto X charges. But seriously, the only bonus is that the Nexus is on 4.4.1 now instead of 4.4 to improve camera which is something Moto X has been dealing.

Really curious on how your moto x gets better battery life. I've got a stock Moto x and it barely makes it through the day. My N5 battery easily lasts me into the wee hours
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I had both, and I sold my Nexus 5 to keep the Moto X. For me, one I couldn't deal with not having active notifications and the flip to camera gesture because I'm a big car guy and snap pics on the road a lot. Also, Verizon is by far the best coverage here. Also I found the Nexus 5 to be too big and awkward in my hand, and its the same software, and I don't find any reason to go CM anymore. Also I find the Nexus screen to look a little faded/washed vs the Moto X. I agree with the other guy that I also get better battery life from my Moto X. For me, the Nexus 5 is only better if you want CM, and prefer the bigger screen.
I currently have an S4. I have the Cyber Monday code but I'm torn between the Moto X and Nexus 5. One one hand, the Moto X brings innovation with customization and active notifications. However, i'm concerned about the smaller screen and even less of a usuable area with the on screen buttons. I love my S4's 5 inch 1080p screen.
What has me leaning towards Nexus 5 is the fact that i'm in the last few months of my Sprint contract. Where I live, the service is pretty damn good but i've been wanting to go back to T-Mobile to be on a GSM carrier and can use unlocked devices when I want. I could use the Nexus 5 on Sprint and just carry it over to T-Mo when my contract is up.
I don't have large hands and the ergonomics of the Moto X is another pro.
For me, it comes down to innovaton, customization, and an all-around solid phone vs Stock Android, fast updates, 1080p display and the ability to take it to my next carrier when i'm done with sprint. Hard to choose. My coupon expires on the 11th.

True. 4.4 killed my battery life. Moto needs to update their WiFi drivers.

Motorola is a much better manufacturer than LG. My nexus 5 had terrible battery life, a terrible speaker with terrible placement, and the design's just not that great. Sold it for my Moto X.
I use my phones regularly and most of the time use Bluetooth streaming while I'm driving in the field. For some reason the nexus 5 drains fast while I'm streaming Bluetooth.

I had the n5 and it had terrible battery life and build quality. Couldnt deal with the battery life, speaker and vibration(couldnt feel it in my pocket or hear it on my desk). However, I do miss the unlocked bootloader, larger screen and wireless charging but realized i need to be more worried about functionality when dropping $350.
I have the att x and purchased the tmobile version to unlock the bootloader. I can deal with the smaller screen and hopefully the qi receiver i purchased works.. so for me, its the moto x all the way.
How important is battery life to you? That was the major deciding factor for me.

General Question

So my Note 3 is 2 months old and I have decided it's just too damn big for normal use. Thinking about the Moto x. How is the camera on Kit Kat? And how is battery life? And how does the 720p screen really look? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Screen is fine. Camera compared to the s4 is not good.

My opinion.... I've played with them all, and the Moto x is the most refined phone I've used. Yes, the camera isn't the best out there, but I'm of the opinion that it is a phone, not a camera. Its fine for capturing moments spur of the moment.... But if I know I'm going somewhere and want lots of nice pics..... I use my camera.
Opinions will vary. Greatly. Lol
Sent from my Moto X cell phone telephone.....
Battery life is good, unrooted with location services, voice controls all etc turned on I get 1 day+ with 3-4 hours of screen time. I also typically do an hour or two of music or bluetooth too.
Compared to Note3 the camera is not as good in many situations but its good enough to be happy with the pics I take of my kids and whatnot. I have a better digital camera but prefer the phone for convenience. The double wrist flick to launch the camera is genius and I use it often.
