hi
i bought a verizon htc one and am using it in the simple mobile prepaid network. its on android 4.2.2 with software number 1.10.605.10. since i dont have a verizon sim it wont update to the latest jellybean ota. my questions
1) how should i start off rooting and s off it
i was thinking rumrunner----> change the tampered to unlocked-----> flash recovery twrp-----> flash stock +su
2) in the end i want the stock android 4.4 with sense 5.5 rom, the unlocked version
so should i first flash verizon software 2.10.605.10 ------> update the firmware via fastboot-------> flash the stock 4.4 unlocked edition rom
3)if i flash the verizon 2.10.605.10 will i lose touch control when coming from 1.10.605.10? then how will i be able to get to fastboot to flash firmware? or should i flash the firmware first then the rom?
4) can i flash the android 4.4 sense 5.5 rom for unlocked htc one taken from http://htconeroot.com/htc-one-stock-roms/android-4-4-kitkat-sense-5-5-stock-rom-for-htc-one/ . will it work in my phone?. i am not using verizon sim.
5) if i need to return my phone for warranty and need to be back in stock 1.10.605.10. how should i go about it?
is it
change from unlocked to locked ----> flash the ruu as rom.zip ------> change to s-on.
if i follow that method where do i get the 1.10.605.10 rom is it from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=248531 ?/
also if i flash the 1.10.605.10 rom, how will i flash the firmware back, since the newest firmware wont work on the old rom?
please do give me a reply. i have been searching the forums for replies and its all confusing.
thanks a lot

I don't know about the verizon variant but here for the international variant you need to be bootloader unlocked and rooted to s-off with rumrunner. Maybe your version of rumrunner are using an exploit that can achieve s-off without unlocking bootloader, idk.
and for the others questions, unfortunately, I'll says just wait for someone else to jump in this thread because im not familiar with the verizon variant.

Hi all,
I'm wanting to flash my HTC one 32gb, UK Three network, with the international software so I can receive updates much quicker rather than waiting for my carrier to approve them as well.
First off will I need S-off for this to work because of the carrier lock? I've only ever had unlocked phones before, when I have rooted them. Also what are the best tools for the job? I am looking for that lastest stock international stock ROM that I can root. I'm fine with command line tools like; fastboot, adb ect. Been off the rooting scene in a while since I had a galaxy nexus, with its unlock boot loader option
Thanks.

This is your best option for rooting
You can't have s-off yet not done yet

So how can I unlock the boot loader so I can flash a custom recovery? I do not have the option of going to fastboot and unlocking it like on the nexus. Also mine is a carrier version so i assume I cannot unlock the bootloader from the HTC dev site.

Thanks guys I've done it! Unlocked it the via the HTC dev site and flashed the clockwork mod recovery, then flashed the latest stock ROM. So now I should not have to wait for my network carrier to deliver the updates. Did it on my macbook using fastboot and adb.
So for future reference for anyone else;
HTC one on carrier Three UK, flashed with latest stock ROM with no problems.
No need for S-off either.

That is where you might have troubles. Because the OTA updates will still look at your CID and if your CID doesn't match up (which it won't) because the update is for the CID in the UK region and your CID is for example the Australian region then the update won't install.

Hi, can i ask where you got the Stock ROM from? I rooted mine the other day, then decided i wanted to unroot it, and in trying to do so I ended up using the wrong RUU and now the Wifi and Camera dont work. I am an idiot.
So ive decided ill settle for a stock ROM for now until someone comes along with the UK Three RUU.
Thanks in advance
Hi guys. I shifted from my old Sony Xperia Sola to the beautiful HTC One and I'm loving it. The phone was gifted to me and is from from Singapore (or perhaps bought in one of those countries around there). The problem is that I'm just not getting the Android 4.2.2 update (OTA or software). Here's what I intend to do:
- Download International HTC One Andorid 4.2.2 Stock ROM
- Boot into HTC One stock recovery
- Flash Android 4.2.2 Stock on my HTC One
Questions:
1. Do I need to unlock my bootloader for this? From my experience with Sony, I shouldn't need to do so. For Sony phones there's FTF, for HTC phones there's (what? Is it RUU files?)?
2. Can I make this update on stock ROM?
3. Can I install CWM without unlocking bootloader and ROOT my phone as well?
Would really appreciate some help, just links to the respective threads and I'll take it from there.
Thanks!
You need unlocked boatloader for custom recovery , root , flashing , if I were you I'd fist s-off then do the following.

When you say you want to flash stock ROM, do you actually mean official 4.2.2 or are you talking about a custom Stock ROM like ARHD? ... If you want to flash a custom ROM you will need a custom recovery such as TWRP or CWM. If you want to flash an RUU then you will need to be S-Off to flash anything other than the one meant for the region the phone came from.
Your bootloader needs to be unlocked to flash custom recovery, also, if you decide to flash something like ARHD which is the best custom ROM IMO (and is almost completely stock but with a few improvements) then it already has root built into the ROM. Just unlock your bootloader, install custom recovery usng fastboot and then flash a ROM using CWM or TWRP, whichever you install.
Check these threads for any info .. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183023 ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618

My phone software (.407) belongs to the India region. And I want to flash the official Android 4.2.2 ROM for the Indian HTC One version.

Alternatively, I'm considering flashing ARHD. Doesn't matter if I'm using an Indian region variant right? (GSM)
So I need to:
- Unlock the bootloader
- Install Recovery
- Flash ROM
That's it correct? I lose all the information in my internal storage or it stays? (I mean in the 32GB internal storage)
Also, can I lock bootloader and go back to official ROM at any stage in the future?

Yep, unlock your bootloader which will wipe your internal storage so backup to your pc first if there's things you want to keep. Install a custom recovery using fastboot and then you can just flash any ROM, ARHD is a very good choice btw lol.
If you want to return to stock then check the second thread in my previous post, but yes, you can flash a stock ROM like in the thread I mentioned, install a stock recovery, re-lock your bootloader and then you should be good to go as far as OTA updates etc.
This is assuming you are S-On btw, S-Off requires different steps for what I mentioned and I am not familiar with that way at all as I'm S-On. What I mentioned above is exactly what I did when I reverted to stock to receive the recent 4.2.2 update in the UK
I don't know which files you need to restore to stock as the thread is for the European version of the One and I don't know how your version differs but someone will be able to advise you more on that . The process is the same though if you are S-On, I'm just not 100% sure what custom ROM or stock ROM you would need for your variant of the ONE so best let somebody more knowledgeable take over from here lol
Good luck.
Phew. S-On S-Off, Sony phones are a hell lot simpler! Thanks a ton!

HI,
I bought a m8 sprint harmon kardon phone in India which had official sense and relocked bootloader and all sim working. Then I read all guides and i unlocked my sprint m8 bootloader got twrp 2.7.xx for it and Installed Few Custom roms. I am on viper ROM 4.3 now. It is Misbehaving a lot. I wanted to go back to stock HTC. My question is after searching extensively i cant find proper guide or ROM to go back for my particular device. So many ROMS and RUU i am confused and scared i might brick it. Shud i flash from twrp or RUU? i Dont want to S OFF.
1) How to go back to stock harmon kardon with all sim working in india .I have S on and unlocked bootloader. shud i relock bootloader?
2)which stock Rom to flash for INDIA so all sims will work and i will not be stuck with only sprint sim working(biggest scare)
3)Will i get official OTA updates of htc in india if it is a sprint rom?
4)If not can i install an asian or indian Stock ROM? and will i loose Harmon kardon settings with that?
If i install this RUU Sprint_HTC_One_M8_HK_4.25.654.14_RUU from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729173
will it be OK?
If i run this RUU http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-harman-kardon-edition-sprint/news/ will i be gettin all sims working on it? or only USA sprint?
I am sorry for so many questions but i dont want to brick my phone.

1. Easiest way to go back to stock is RUU. (you will need to re-lock your bootloader for it to work)
2. If you are sim unlocked as far as I know it's permanent.
3. Yes you should.
4. If they are Sprint compatible then yes. You will most likely loose your HK setting.
Both RUU's you link to are the same, you need to be sim unlocked to get all sims working.
thanks mate

Just got a new m9 been away from htc and rooting for a long time. just upgraded from my trusty galaxy s3. Is there any thing i should be aware of before unlocking boot loader and rooting. the phone is bone stock on 5.0.2 Should i let it update before unlocking boot loader and rooting. To my understanding i should unlock boot loader install twrp and don't mount the system before making a back up. Then install supersu and root or use sunshine to get root and do both.

Welcome back to HTC
It really depends on what you plan to do with your M9.
If you plan on using custom roms then yes unlock and install TWRP. Root is not required to flash roms.
Sunshine does not root or unlock but removes secure write (S-Off) which allows you to install different firmware's etc.
With S-on you can only move forward with firmware's. Lots of people complain about the 25.00, But its well worth it.
If you are not concerned about the cost, then unlock, twrp, flash superSu, and install sunshine and S-off then your free to do anything.
backup if you like but there is a thread with stock backups etc...
hope this helps
My main concern was if i want to use the phone first with out unlocking and it receives the tmobile update that i can unlock and root later.

Yes you can still unlock and root and S-off on the current OS 5.1 - 2.11.531.19, but I would do it before MM comes out for this device.
will do viperone had issues on initial firmware so i flashed the latest ruu, sunshine is next. thanks for the advice.
Hi everyone,
I need some help if you may please. I bought an HTC One M9 phone and for a while it's been telling me to update to the newest android version. However, this was impossible because even when I downloaded de update from TMobile, when restarting, TWRP would kick in and wouldn't let me go through the whole setup. So, I got to some tutorials and I found some guidance but it's all so confusing and I've gotten to a point where I have no idea what to do next.
Phone is from:
-TMobile
What I did:
-Got rid of TWRP
-Got it back to unroot
Phone status as of now:
It works fine, but it's still not updated.
When going into the HTC Download mode screen, i get the following info:
-UNLOCKED
-htc_himaul PVT S-ON
-OS-1.32.531.24
-Warning: Security checking failed NOT_FIND_SMARTIO
FILE /mnt/media_rw/ext_sd/0PJAIMG.zip
File NOT FOUND
ADB is not reading my device when in download mode, I was trying to install stock recovery by following a tutorian in android soul: how to install stock recovery on htc one m9 (sorry but the forum won't let me post the link.
What do I need to do? There are so many tutorials out ther with so many different instructions that I'm totally confused now as to what to install or not to install . I'd like to install the Developer version but if I have to deal with the Tmobile one, that's ok.
Thanks in advance

You say you got rid of twrp and tried to flash the stock recovery but adb is not working, so what recovery is currently on the phone?
I think the simplest solution would be to run the latest RUU from your sd card since you have adb issues (most likely a driver).
This will bring you to current stock 2.11.531.19. This will wipe the device and you must use a 4-32GB sd card.
Place it on the root of the sd card and boot into download mode, vol up to update and let it run.
you can get the RUU here

Wait. I just picked up an M9 myself, and my current plan is to wait until the official T-Mobile Marshmallow OTA is released before I unlock bootloader and S-OFF. My logic being that I could create then create a backup point in TWRP if I can't find a custom ROM that suitably handles T-Mobile specific features (WiFi calling, etc.) and just restore to the stock T-Mobile image.
Are you saying that updating OTA to Marshmallow could limit my ability to use Sunshine for S-OFF?
I suppose I could just S-OFF now and then RUU back to Stock T-Mobile Marshmallow once released?
edit: I'm already on Lollipop 5.1 on my M9. Am I already ****-out-of-luck for Sunshine?

Sunshine will work on the current version. We never know what will come when a new OTA's come out.
An OTA wont relock the bootloader or return it to S-ON. That is why I would recommend to do the S-off before an OTA.

Makes sense.
But won't unlocking the bootloader, flashing TWRP, then going S-OFF with Sunshine make it so that the newest OTA won't be accepted as an actual over-the-air update due to the altered filesystem? I know that I can still RUU, but will RUU not revert my S-OFF back to S-ON and re-lock the bootloader? Or are those things unaffected by RUU, even as an executable RUU?

The RUU will not relock bootloader or rewrite S-On. To accept OTA, you need to have stock unmodified device.
You could run the RUU again or just unroot and flash stock recovery. The OTA will not wipe the device but the RUU will.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for this! Im having trouble with my computer and have been looking for a ruu zip all day lol. Will give this a shot on my TMOUS S-Off M9 tomorrow so I can jump to my next device.
I'm a veteran with Android. I know adb and fastboot. But I came from a moto RAZR maxx HD. I'm on kk 4.4.2 I havent yet unlocked or s-offed BUT I have all the files on my device. Do I download the latest ota after I unlock and s-off and flash it? Then twrp and Roms or are their more steps? And I want to use the CDMA radio to what do I need to do. I never use stock Roms always custom.
I'm not really understanding the question too well, but here's what I can tell you:
I think you should be able to install OTAs after you Unlock/S-OFF, but not after you install a custom recovery or custom ROM
You should be able to use cellular on most ROMS, but make sure it supports Sprint/Verizon or whatever you use
Sorry if this doesn't help :silly:
Thanks that helps some. This may be a stupid question but do I have to be on the 5.0.2 bootloader to flash the latest roms

If you phone is still locked and untouched then leave it like that. Update it before doing any modification. Unlocking the bootloader will wipe /data including /data/preload which is a folder containing some stock HTC apps. These apps are updated during an OTA and if they are missing, the ota installation will fail. You don't need s-off to flash custom roms, only an unlocked bootloader.
And I want to use the CDMA radio to what do I need to do.

What is your phone variant? Can you post a "fastboot getvar all"? If its a GSM (M7_U or M7_UL) then you can't use CDMA.
Your phone must be running a 7.xx.xxx.xx firmware to flash custom roms based on Lollipop/HTC Sense. CM based roms should run fine even if your firmware is up to date.
I had to move on to a Verizon note 3, but thank you for the help guys. Best of luck to you guys
