Thinking I Am Going to Sell my Galaxy Nexus and Get This

I find my Galaxy Nexus too big, and I am very intrigued by this phone. It looks like I can get it new and unlocked for about $130-160 on Ebay and it has about the same, if not better specs than my Gnex.
Could anyone offer me any arguments for or against this move?

Don't factor unlocked into your buying decision, you can unlock it yourself once you have root.
The "cons":
- "Only" 16 gb of storage (yet I don't know anyone who puts 16 gb of anything on their phone)
- "Mid range" specs (I've tested the most graphically intense games out there and they run smoothly)
- Size
- Facebook Home (not worth mentioning, we're on XDA)
The real cons:
- The camera is relatively weak but it improves with this mod.
- No expandable storage
- No removable battery
- Little attention
The pros:
- High PPI
- Specs
- Good battery life
- LTE, NFC
- Size
- Solid construction
- Matte finish
I don't understand why so few people care about this phone but go gaga over the One Mini, they're practically twins specwise. I guess people just like shiny things I'm a Thinkpad kinda guy so the First looks better to me.
People are trying to port the One Mini's stock 4.2.2 rom, once that's successful we might see Cyanogen on the First. Until then I'd recommend sticking to stock, JMZ's sense rom has a few issues.

I actually consider size one of my primary motivations for going this route. I find most modern phones way too large, and I sure as hell do not want to go the Iphone route. This phone seems like a really awesome phone that just wasn't marketed properly.
I do not mind the mid range specs, and my Gnex already is stuck at 16gb with no expandable storage, and while the battery is removable, its still a pretty weak battery.
I hope to be able to get one off Ebay sometime in the next couple of weeks, wait for the right deal.

In the first set of cons I was referring to things that reviewers have complained about. I kid you not, they complained about screen size after using their Galaxy phones for so long. They complained about numbers in benchmarks that are nigh unnoticeable in actual use. Then they spend the rest of the review bashing FB home which can be turned off with 2 taps.

Well, I purchased a HTC First today off of Ebay. I should be getting it by the end of next week. Pretty excited.
This phone needs a micro sim, not a regular sim is that right?

I thought the HTC First was pretty great coming from the Galaxy Nexus. If you compare screen sizes, the ammount of display available on the Gnex is about equal to what's available on the First due to the on screen buttons on the GNex. I think the First is faster, has a prettier display, and has a really unique look along with LTE. That being said, my biggest complaint is that the phone is a forgotten phone already. There's no development support which is a huge bummer. I'd LOVE it if I could throw CM or AOKP on this device. It would be a dream come true.

I just got this phone and my mom took over my lg optimus g on sprint and put in a straight talk at&t LTE capable micro Sim card. I like the size and stock aosp. Coming from a rooted lg optimus g running pacman.

We have unofficial cm ports coming so we have some support. But HTC told me that its been discontinued.
Um, ya camera isn't as good as I would like, but hen I was picking between a used one x and this I picked the first cause 1.4ghz is a lot, my hands are small so 4.7 inches is too much and the used one x was 220$ while I got this for 155$ brand new.

Any Note 3 converts?

I currently have a Note 3 (Verizon) and I'm thinking about selling it and grabbing the Developer Edition Moto X ...
I don't find myself utilizing the Note Series features all that much anymore (SPen, Multi Window, etc) and use very little of the Samsung features offered. Call quality and data connectivity have been ify for me lately and I know Moto can't be beat in that department.
I'm concerned about the reduction in screen real estate for sure (ironic because the larger form factor was my concern when going to the Note 2 LOL). So, I thought I would see if any former Note 3 users made the switch and get their input ...

I switched from a Note 3. I bought the X for the hell of it and never picked the Note 3 back up. I just factory reset it and handed it to the wife. You won't miss that thing for a second. We're RVing for the winter and the spot we're in is really iffy on Verizon service. The note 3 is struggling to simply send a text and my X has 1-2 bars of 4g (enough to tether for some Netflix). DO IT!!

Pretty much the same scenario here. Had the Note 3 and gave it to the wife when I got a cyber Monday deal X. Don't get me wrong...a 32gb Note 3 with a 64gb sd and 5.7 inch screen was quite nice (only ever used a little over half available storage) I absolutely prefer the X. It's just perfectly usable.

I picked up one free for my wife with an early upgrade. She is satisfied with her gs3. So only time will tell. I use my lg g2 more than my note 3 anyway.

I have never personally owned a note 3, but my girlfriend has one so I've played around with it. I used to have an s3 and the only thing i missed was external battery and sd card. Other than that, I wouldn't trade my Moto x for anything. Features like active display and touchless control and Motos almost stock experience and fast updates sure does make it hard for me to like any other phone.

Good stuff!! Thanks for the feedback all!! I may go to a local Verizon store today and mess around with one ... I'm torn because I really like the N3 (aside from depleted signal as compared to N2) but the form factor of the N3 is not like the N2 either, not as comfortable in the hand as the N2 was. Hard to explain LOL
I may sit tight and see what the KitKat upgrade does for the N3 signal-wise, if anything. Or Sammy and Verizon may drag their feet on the update and piss me off prompting me to get the Moto X LOL

I just sold my note 2 and my Moto X dev. edition will be here friday.

I had a Note 2, then an HTC One, then went to my current Note 3. I went back because although I DESPISE Touchwiz, I couldn't overlook the multiwindow/pen window features. For the past few months, I've stopped using those features and tried other apps for that kind of multitasking. Between the apps Viral, NinjaSMS, and Floating Apps (caught it on sale for a dollar, a complete steal), I am completely comfortable not using the Touchwiz multiapp features. And frankly, I'm over 5+ inch phones.
Now I was considering dumping this for a Nexus 5, I completely wrote off the X as a mid-tier forgettable phone. But across the net, people just never stopped talking about it, and after reading about it, I think it will be perfect. I'm looking forward to the Touchless Controls, especially as I've been using Tasker and Autovoice a lot. I have OpenMic+, but it's, of course, no substitute. I was worried about it being too small but I played with it in a Best Buy. It's fine, and the 720p screen is fine. And since I don't need roms anymore with GravityBox, and I've always been a software over hardware guy, I think the X Developer Edition will be perfect.

Question I forgot to ask ... How's the camera on the X? Loved my N2 camera not so pleased with N3 camera. However, I owned Motorola phones before and the camera was always a friggin turd! (I'm looking at you Razr Maxx HD) ... so, has Moto improved their camera yet?

It's not the best, but I've heard that, since the update, it's no slouch. There's a "Pictures Taken With the X" thread on the next page with some great shots, especially on the last couple pages.

Man, I probably should have went to my local Verizon store and played with the X prior to posting this thread LOL
DAMN that's one tiny phone!! There is no way in the world I can go to a phone that small again after dealing with the Note 2 and now the Note 3!! I may be able to do the Droid Maxx, but even that might be tough ... these phablets have spoiled me I tell ya LOL

I'm looking at selling my Note 3 and moving to the Moto X right now myself so this was a nice thread to find. I like the screen, and the storage (64 gig card here + 32 gig internal) but the signal and gps quality of the Note 3 just cant match anything Moto puts out and the X has some features I think I will really use unlike the features found on the Note 3 that I use some of rarely.
Local market is pretty empty for a 32 gig model Moto X but as soon as I can find one I'm doing a swap + cash or just outright selling the Note 3 and buying the Moto X.

I agree about the many useless (to me anyway) Note 3 features and signal woes, but I just don't think I can go THAT small!

That's what she said? Alright, now that I got that out of my system, I know its smaller but I am looking fwd to one handing a device easily again. I'm 6'1" and have gigantic hands (2xl motorcycle gloves) and I have trouble one handing this device. Granted NFL mobile and movies look amazing on the Note 3 but the ability to use one hand to grab the phone, unlock it, click on the dialer, punch in the number and hit call is something I cant do with the Note 3. And the Moto X while smaller, well it isn't like its Droid Eris or iPhone screen sized lol.

LOL ... I'm right at 6' tall as well and I've always been told I have large hands (the ladies love large hands HAHA) and, while it's not easy, I can manage to do certain things one handed on the N3. But, when I went into the Verizon store to play with the X there was just no way I could type on that phone! After an typing for too long the hair on my thumb knuckles might catch on fire from all the friction LOL (I'm a hairy Italian LOL)
I liked the feel of the Droid Maxx, but sadly it's priced so high there's no way I could sell the Note 3 at a price that could offset the price of the Maxx ... Guess I have to live with the N3 and pray an update fixes things for me.

Typing is so old school, you should try swiping around the keyboard. The Moto X screen is the perfect size for it, it is very fast and works great one handed.

I'm not a very good speller, so swiping never did work out well for me LOL
I do use voice to text a lot, but that's not convenient at the office
The touchless controls and interactive display of the Moto X is very intriguing! Plus I really like the new direction and approach Motorola has taken lately ... Unlike Samsung which continues with an Apple-like confining experience. (was reading how the KitKat update "broke" third party accessories! Lame!!)

I know it isn't exactly the same but I've come from a Galaxy Note 1 to Nexus 4 to Moto X. I told myself that I would mess around with the Nexus 4 and root it and have the X as a backup. Boy was I wrong.
Now I really did love the sheer gigantic size of the Note, mostly because it fit in my hands pretty much perfectly, but there is something about the curved back and dimple in the back of the Moto X that just forces me to hold onto it for as long as I can! In a way I do wish the phone was a bit bigger as it is a bit awkward to grasp at times, but at the same time I prefer a smaller phone for single handed use.
Battery life was a HUGE issue for me and I was presently surprised by a good 13-17 hours of use on a slow day (which is perfect!) LTE just made it so much better (4g on Nexus 4 yuck!).
The last and probably the most important reason why I'm not going back is the built in software. Now I really see the appeal of Multi-window on the Note, but from there the Moto X wins. Active notifications are amazing!! I do not think I could go back to and LED or turning on the screen. Touch less controls I find somewhat gimmicky at times (Google now is somewhat limited where I live in Canada) but is really cool when you can tell who is phoning when you are driving. The always listening function makes up for this however. The flicking of the wrist to start the camera is a strange motion that doesn't always work the first time but is extremely convenient.
Personally if I could afford the Note 3 I would probably give it a shot. However as I have a Nexus 7, if I really want a big screen at that moment I just fire up a portable hotspot and go from there. I don't think I would be giving this phone up unless Samsung makes a Note with their version of active notifications and Touch less control. Just my two cents though! Everyone have a good day!

Multi-Window, Pen Window and pop-up browser are Note 3 features I would truly miss, but honestly, I did without them before and probably could do without them again (but do I want too LOL) ... I really hope Motorola comes out with a larger device that offers the same features as the Moto X ... the size of the X is really the only thing holding me back right now. Even if it were slightly bigger, say the size of the Droid Maxx or Ultra I would not hesitate ...

I'm going to buy a spare moto X as I predict no phone will come come close to it in ergonomics and thin bezel size/aesthetics for a long time.
Moto X2 is almost guaranteed to have a 5 inch screen = automatic disqualification. I have bigger than average hands (can grip a basketball) but I use my phone so little that I really can;t justify carrying around a huge screen 14 hours a day for the 2 minutes it comes in handy for.
Basically all the phones released this year are sh1t aesthetically.
S5 = thick size bezels, looks like a boat
HTC M8 = MASSSSSSSSSSSSSSIVE bottom bezel, huge phone for that small (in comparison) screen
Oppo Find 7 = Too big (that's what she said)
Sony = bezels always too thick
LG G2 = buttons on the back = GTFO LG
Nexus 5 = bezels are thicker than it's twin brother than LG G2 which is unacceptable for me
iphone 6 = as per leaks the side AND top/bottom bezels are very thick
Basically after being addicted to phones since 2011 I have spent close to $4k on this stupid hobby.
Top 3 phones were:
1. Moto X
2. iphone 5
3. Nexus 4

I'm in the situation your in right now. My S4's SIM tray self destructed. Needing a phone immediately and sick of using a large phone, I opted to buy the Moto X for 50 bucks.
Best phone I've ever owned. Period.

Yes, I would still buy the X today.
Size, feel, screen, battery life, over all usability make the X my favorite device. And its great for single handed use.
My Samsungs don't feel right in my hand, and I have to shift them around too much for single handed use. Touchwiz is still too cartoony. There is a lot of bloat I don't use. The built in apps for SMS/MMS have issues when sending to non-samsung phones (S4), as does the calendar when sending invites(Note 2).
I like my BB Z10 more now that it runs Android APK's natively, and has a better camera than the X, but I like widgets and other things on the X better.
The only thing I'd change about the X is its camera in low light. It has gotten better with the software updates but its still not up to where it needs to be. That being said, for outdoors, the software improvements (rom and camera app) have made big improvements.
Oh, but if you want to Root the X, buy the developer edition, or one with an unlockable bootloader!!! It might cost you more, but you can be assured that you can root if you want.

In a heartbeat. I have always loved Motorola phones. If it wasn't for LTE I would have never got my S3. I genuinely feel like my droid x and x2 were better phones than my Galaxy S3, other than the LTE and camera.
I'd by an x right now cause there's nothing better out right now. Once the MotoX replacement comes out that might change. I'm hoping for a removable battery so I can get an extended battery.

I just bought one on eBay rather than a Nexus 5 - because no other manufacturer has really done the Active Notifications, Always-On Voice Command and the human-friendly design together just yet.
Here's to hoping Nexus 6 has all of those, though Active Notifications are unlikely on non-AMOLED phones.

Just got my X yesterday, so I guess I'm still in the "honeymoon" phase...but I'll be honest with you...I love this phone.
I have been around XDA for a while now and have owned 6 consecutive Android phones (goes without saying, I will have a sex change before I ever get an iPhone). I used to theme for several Moto phones back in the day (BIONIC/RAZR/DX). Motorola phones, in my opinion, are the best built phones out there. Mix that with Google and it's just a whole lot of awesome. From the day I rooted my original DROID I knew that I would never own another phone that I didn't root. 5 or so years later I have found myself with a phone that may never see the beautiful world of root and/or unlocked bootloaders. While that sucks, it says something about this phone. The fact that I am not regretting my decision to buy it should tell you how awesome it is. Everything about it is just sexy (besides the camera, which is nothing to write home about). As already mentioned, it is ergonomically stellar. By far the best in-hand feeling phone I've ever owned. Love the vibrant display and the nearly-vanilla android stock ROM.
To put it simply: I hate that it is locked down. But this is an incredibly solid and fun device and I could not be happier that I went with it. :good::good:

I actually did just receive my Moto X today. Coming from a rooted Galaxy S3 running CarbonROM and KT Kernel.
With my GS3's governor set to Interactive and the go_hispeed_load set to 50, the GS3 has smoother scrolling. But the unrooted, stock Moto X has faster app opening speed, which was pleasantly surprising.
Like many other users have said, all newer phones are simply just too big. All VZW phones are also locked, so it makes software considerations important. Moto X is as close to stock Android as you can get on-contract with Verizon and that is a huge plus IMO.
The touchless controls work surprisingly well, sometimes it doesn't fire, but it works consistently enough to be useful.
Negative:
Can't find a way to completely silence the phone. Even if I turn all volumes down to 0, if I accidentally trigger the Google Now hotword, it will beep. Bad during a test or interview.
The screen is a bit too warm. Even though the PPI is a tad higher than the GS3 and is a non-PenTile screen, white text on dark background on the Moto X looks weird. It's hard to describe but it almost seems liek as if the edges of the letters are bleeding.
My GS3 earbuds wire controls don't work.
Non-removable battery or microSD.
Camera.

I take it from what a few of you are saying is that no Moto X I buy now from the Moto Creator site or Verizon is going to be rootable if it's not a developer version, correct? If this is the case, how much extra am I going to have to spend? I need root for my root call blocker and greenify.
Also, I have been considering getting one of the wood back ones. I think they look super slick from the pictures I've see. Never seen one in person though. Any positives or negatives someone could share about the wood backs?

Yes. It's by far the best phone ever made.
The only phone you should consider waiting for is the Moto X+1 or LG G3

Yes if you can find a good deal on a used one. No because its been out for 9 months already which is like 5 years in phone time. If my X broke now I would get a beater phone for summer until iPhone6 or X+1 came out.

You ask a question like this in a Moto X forum, what answer do you expect?
I have a Moto X, and if the X2 is 5 inches, I will keep using my X. Best phone I ever had.

Hmmm, Well if I get a brighter screen on my next DE X (warranty) then yes.

I have used the S4 and unless you put CyanogenMod to it, Touchwiz is just horrible and overall it's much slower than the Moto X. It's just a night and day difference in experience. You'll find much more useful features with the Moto X. The camera is not as good, but it's the only thing you'll miss. The Moto X is still a great device, there isn't any other device out now that make me want to switch to it probably until the Moto X+1 come out.

Active notifications are just a show stopper. Being able to pull your phone out of pocket abs it shows the time without even having to wake it. Also if its sitting on the desk , just nudge it and the time appears. It's brilliant

The answer is yes, just ordered mine yesterday. Cant wait to get it. Moving from a HTC One.
After reading through all these comments I'm even more excited to get it. I was able to get a student discount on it and I chatted with them so they sent me a free skip.

Why did you decide to stay with the N4 after the N5 was released?

I actually bought the N5 before getting the N4. The fact is, I'm gonna get all of the Nexus devices (all new in box) just because I can. And I plan on using most of them.
But anyway, for those that aren't as Nexus obsessed as me, why did you stay with the N4? I know one answer I'm going to hear: "because it still does what I need". (fair enough)

I stayed with the N4 because I think it's more handy. It's a little smaller than the nexus 5 and since I have smaller hands I prefer the nexus 4. Also, the nexus 5's earpiece is weird (atleast for me)

I stayed because I didnt find mych difference and also Im in a condition that buying a new device will probably waste my time ! And also planing to move to google silver or iphone 6

Hey, I totally understand why someone would stay with the N4. To be honest, I have relatively small phone needs. My Moto G actually did everything I needed and more. (I gave it to my mom) While we're at it, I bet the Galaxy Nexus would be more than enough for most people. But some people just like having the best. Not that I need it, I just like having it.
No doubt the Nexus 4 is still a strong player in the market. It will have no problem running 5.0
I just wish there was a CandyKat rom for the N4.

I know, a lot of people whom I've told about the earpiece think of it as a weird reason. I, however, just didn't like the design of the phone. But hey, that's just me. I love the moto g and x. They're both very handy phones and pretty solid performers too!

my reason :
- I got my N4 cheap (got $100 discount when I bought it).
- screen density is more than enough for my poor eyes. (tell you the truth I really can tell differences between 415ppi vs 318ppi).
- CPU sector, for me myself my nexus 4 is already fast enough. I mean this is a phone not a laptop/pc, I don't need huge clock speed or ram to play games.

I haven't owned a Moto X, but I know all about it. I bought the Moto G and was very happy with it. My tech-ego got in the way and told me I need a Nexus 5. I don't regret it one bit.

Why did you decide to stay with the N4 after the N5 was released?
I guess because not everyone is as independently wealthy as you. Geez, I just bought the thing only a year and a half ago. Assuming that someone keeps making OS updates for this phone on this forum to keep up with security updates, I will keep it for around the same time-frame as I refresh my main desktop computer, about 5 to 7 years. Heck, my older second desktop computer is 11 years old and runs various versions of Linux as well as XP just fine (Although I disabled XP because it was finally discontinued.) I understand it is the constantly changing hardware that forces Google to very quickly stop supporting OS upgrades on older devices (really just an excuse to sell more devices), but it is really ridiculous that my Nexus 4 will shortly become obsolete by Google's standards, unlike Microsoft who supports their operating systems for a very reasonable amount of time.

I stayed with my Nexus 4 because Nexus 5 didn't offer a significant difference in performance. I was able to compare that side by side, and the performance of my Nexus 4 was just fast as Nexus 5. So i saw no point in change.
As i'm a non gamer guy, i think Nexus 5 will perform better games than Nexus 4, but i really don't play much.
Personally speaking, changing phone every year (some people always want to stay on fashion), seems to me like throwing money away, i think it's better change of 2 in 2 years, then you'll notice more technology improvement.
Another situation, was when i saw the Nexus 5...i was totally disappointed with his design..i mean look at the Nexus 4...it has an amazing design, glass on the back, all seems to be in harmony.
In Nexus 5 it's just a phone...don't know...lack of personality, i guess....lol
Now, i'll be waiting for Nexus 6...let's see if it worth...

Most of the replies posted in the thread apply to me as well. Some additional thoughts that kept me away from the n5:
It feels better in my hands and the size was perfect. The main things I liked were the corners of the nexus 4 were more curved than the 5, and that the tapered edges of the n4 screen felt natural.
I also preferred the n4's "discrete" camera compared to the gigantic wart that's on the back of the n5.

I stayed because I won't jump to another phone until I see significant improvement in technology as nowadays it's just spec bumps. I think the 4th is more than enough to last for another 2 years. I'll probably change next year with the coming of L and 64bit phones and only if it really matters. Oh, and I'm not rich enough to change phone every year ?

My reason? Saving up my money for my masters degree studies.

I got the N4 on contract which isn't up until March next year.
Being a student I couldn't afford to buy it outright, and obviously couldn't afford to buy the N5 when it came out.
I will, however, be buying the Nexus 6 the moment it's released. I should have my student loan through by then.
Priorities, right?

I think the Nexus 4 is a gorgeous looking phone (I'm a sucker for the glitter back) and I like how the edges curve as well, it is a unique design. It's also one of the most comfortable device to grip. Lastly, the size of the screen and phone are very similar to the Moto X, which is the ideal size for me. I believe LG went with cheaper production cost with the N5. I originally sold my N4, but when Android L preview image was announced, I was dying to try it out, so I bought another N4. I'm not planning to sell it again (I hope), there is a charm about this device that I like.

I to am a nexus lover. I did buy a n5, I do use it as my daily phone for the most part. but I do occasionally use my n4 as my phone as well. actually, I use my n4 and n5 every day. my n4 I use daily as a WiFi device at work. and it is still a great device! but those that say that the n4 is on par with the n5 when it comes to speed, are just kidding themselves. sure, in the ui, its just as fast as my n5. heck, my gnex is as fast in the ui as my n5. but I'm not talking ui, as any phone(even my nexus s) can have a fast ui if you set it up right. I'm talking opening apps/process, and computing. the n5 blows my n4 away when it comes to apps opening, and the speed of actually computing. anyways, that doesn't take away from my n4, as I do love it as part of my family

I stayed because it wasn't that BIG of an upgrade from the N4 to be honest. Definitely getting the N6 whenever its announce/released.

I got the my Nexus 4 when Google put them on sale last year before the 5's release. I'm in the process of convincing the wife that I need (aka want) a Nexus 5.

Sell my S5 and get a Moto X 2nd gen

Hey guys i know people are going to have very different opinions but what do you guys think i should do? I really like the look of moto x and like the fact that i can customize the look in moto maker. S5 doesnt really have any huge features that i use. The only thing i would miss is the camera as i take pics of my 10 month old son.
moto x has the cool notification thing and stuff. And the fact i have the £100 off promo code. I would be looking at tue 32gb model and can get around £260 for my S5.
So is it worth buying the moto x and selling the s5?

I can tell you as a moto x owner, its a great piece of hardware IF, if don't mind the camera producing barely adequate photos and below adequate battery life. If you don't mind these two then its perfect for you but I do suggest you get the turbo charger, probably the best little battery solution if you don't mind carrying a charger

Cant the camera be sorted out using a different camera app? I heard the camera app on the moto x is a bit pants. The camera and battery are the only 2 things holding me back right now. If i can get a full day at work out of the phone then i would be happy with the battery

The two phones are very similar, but completely different. Almost exactly same size, AMOLED screen, same processor. Samsung is touchwiz SAMSUNG environment (I have a SAMSUNG tablet) with every feature possible stuffed in someplace, but with the chance of lag. Motorola is Android, with some neat interaction features that you can load or disable. Moto X camera and screen are fine, but the Samsung screen and camera are a little better, Samsung has a microSD slot. Samsung has odd plastic materials that you throw in a case to cover. Motorola has ultra-premium build with custom materials that you don't want to cover. Do you want a super-loaded estate that can carry anything you need, but is not so much fun to drive or look at, or an ultra-light stripped-down sports car with premium finish? They will both get you to work.

From my reading about the Moto X 2014 camera; it pretty good. Only in low light situations is were it has trouble. Other then that; the pictures are " pretty close" to that of the iPhone 6 in quality.
I think you will like the new Moto X 2014. I just purchase a 32GB Yellow 5C and like it very much. But I going to get a new Moto X 2014 because I like the look too! Plus, I never had an Android phone before! With the $150 off; it makes buying the Moto X that much easier to do! After all; you only live once!(that I know of). LOL!

Yeah my problem is ive had 2 phones since the LG G3 was released. I had the G3 and got rid of it due to it shutting itself off (which happened to my gf's G3 too) and then got the S5 a couple months later. And my only real issues with the S5 are its plastic build, touchwiz (using nova though) and all the pre installed junk. Love nexus devices and really wanted the nexus 6 but that bad boys just far to big for my small hands lol.

We all have different needs and requirements from phones, but I will personally state the Moto X2 is the finest phone I've owned so far. I've never owned a contract carrer phone, but have owned the Moto X 2013, Nexus 5, Galaxy S III, and now the Nexus 6 but this phone beats all. Battery life has not been an issue for me - with moderate screen on time I'm getting 24hrs until a recharge is necessary.
Now's the time to make the switch if you can take advantage of the $140 discount being offered today until 5PM CST...

Thanks for the help everyone any more info on the battery and camera of the moto x would be welcome. If i k ew how to upload pics of my S5 battery usage i would ask for an idea of how long you think the moto x battery would last in comparison lol.
Oh and i think us guys in the uk may have less options in the moto maker compared to you guys across the pond. Dont quote me on that though. Just very hard to tell what the colours look like without a real world screen shot.

Got the models mixed up! Apple and Samsung! Yes, think you might like the Moto X 2014 better then the Samsung Galaxy S5 since Samsung customizes their launcher and the look of the back cover is sort of cheesy vinyl but that all up to you to make the call to switch! $150 off is the equalizer if however, you choice to do the switch! What a decision to make!

I've had the GS4 and this MotoX. I can tell you without a doubt, after using it,I would jump on the S5. The sd card, the display, the battery, and camera, its all superior. The sd card alone is worth the lag that touchwiz gives. That said, this is the fastest phone I've ever touched.

Take a look at the thread under general of photos of peoples phones. It will give you a good idea of what the combinations look like. 2 or 3 leather, 4 wood, and 10 or 12 colours with white of black front and 8 or 10 trim hi-lights.

So do you guys think selling my s5 to get a moto X is worth it? Or am i just spending an extra £100 for nothing? Lol so undicided at the moment its driving me nuts lol

Same processor, same RAM, same screen... though I find the S5 better. Worse battery life by far, worse camera, no SD card, no water proofing, no USB 3.0, no awful fingerprint reader. Then again, you gain a better build and some exterior features, along with the active screen and other software stuff. Don't know about you, but I don't spend much time looking at the back of my phone.
If you put your phone in a case, then there's no doubt you should stay with the S5 and invest when a real upgrade comes along. The Droid Turbo 64gb maybe, this I'd say no.

Anyone else got any opinions on selling my galaxy S5 to get a Moto X? Im really torn at the moment and really want the moto x for its beauty and vanilla android experiance but am still a little worried about battery life and the screen issues ive read about.

All I can say is that you'll love the Moto X. If you have the money, go for it. I had a Moto X for a week and returned it. Now, I'm already missing it a lot. I didn't return it because I didn't like it; I returned it because it is a pain in the ass for me to get the 32gb version and it was costly to import. So, now with the 100 euros discount, I'm definitely gonna order one through Moto Maker and get it delivered here through a mail forwaring service. I was going to get the Nexus 5 32gb instead because of the reasons I pointed earlier, but now it's a no brainer.
The software features and build quality of it are impressive.
At this point, I had never considered buying a Samsung phone. If you like yours, nothing against it, but from my experience in store, the build quality and Touch Wiz is like a repellent.

Yeah im with you on the samsung hate lol, i only got the S5 because the LG G3 was just a nightmare device for me. Dont get me wrong the G3 is a nice phone its just a shame that it was riddled with overheating issues and random shut offs etc.
I think i am going to get the moto x now, i just need to decide on what back to get out of the cool colours and the neutral colours lol

I had the standard soft touch plastic back. It is really great, if you like it. Though, this time I'm going for the leather, since the customization factor is a big one on the Moto X.

Personally, if offered the 2 phones, I would take the Moto X. If offered the 2 phones, but I had to pay an extra $100 for the Moto X, I would take the S5. In your case, I would sit tight for a while. You have any interest in a Nexus 6? That is a different beast.

Understood.
If you do get the X, the options for wood or leather do make it special. Nobody else has that. Natural leather appears to be ageing poorly, but the dyed versions are holding up well.
