I just have a quick question about the firmware on my SP (C5302, Bought through Cincinnati Bell and it is carrier locked). I keep seeing things on here about the latest firmware for root and roms etc, so I check mine and its still on 12.0.A.1.257. I have checked via ota and pc companion and it says I am up to date. I have heard the later firmware fixed the weak wifi signal and a few other things. Am I able to use the new firmware or am I stuck on the older one?
If i am able to use the latest firmware what would be the best way to switch to it?.
Thanks in advance

edit: My phone is the SM-G800F
So I bought an S5 mini from ebay and verified it was all legit, legit packaging, tested via apps that check everything etc. Everything was saying all legitimate. It was defaulted to German region DBT. I thought everything was fine since during install I had set the phone up as UK English until it came to rebooting after encryption when the keyboard was not standard QWERTY, it was specifically German and since my password is more about pressing of certain on screen keys rather than the info being typed I could not get at my data. Well I downloaded the latest H3G firmware so that it should be in UK English on my own network most likely (My sim's network is 3)
This is what Odin shows:

Now, the only difference this time, compared to flashing my S4 mini as I have done lots of times, is when I extracted the zip file for the firmware, 7zip complained about extra data after the payload... I updated to the latest 7zip and so I am not sure what's going on but Odin did not complain about any md5 hash breakage so that should have been fine. Also it came from a different site than I usually get. I got the firmware from two places and it seems the same, no hash breakage. I am downloading one now from sammobile which I think is where I got my S4 mini firmwares from.
Can you think of anything that would make this happen and what I could do to fix it? I tried Kies 3 but it just doesn't work, says something like no compatible devices and then when I try and do the emergency firmware recovery, the device does not show up in the list to even attempt anything.
I would appreciate some guidance on this.
Ok, I flashed the original German firmware and it is siccessful and wants me to set it up again as brand new BUT I need to flash the English firmware.
Is there any way I can flash my UK firmware (H3G) on this German S5 mini? Any extra options I need to select on Odin?
I tried to root my phone and failed. The phone is stuck on trying to boot up. I have tried to download the firmware files and recover but keep getting an error with it. I have no idea what to do from here and feel so stupid for doing this.
Exact model of the phone SM950F/DS. the phone is also unlocked to all networks

Can anyone help
..
The firmware you trying to flash is to old. I could bet, you are already on Oreo firmware. That firmware you try to flash is an old nougat firmware with old boatloader. And you can't downgrade the bootloader. That's the reason why the flash process failed.
Use the latest available Oreo firmware for your country.
Edit:
And don't select re-partition in Odin!

Are you using the latest Odin when trying to flash the filmware? (Needed for Oero)
The rooting function properly failed and has locked your device into Downloading Mode. You could try and take your device to a Samsung Service Center. They maybe able to help you.

Sorry everyone I tried to downgrade it not realising it needed to be on 8.0 Oreo, I have got it working now tho
I just got a used Sony Xperia Z3C from Japan (Docomo SO-02G). I tried to convert it into D5803 with UK customized firmware by following instruction from an old YouTube video but I failed and bricked the device. Luckily, someone else repeated the procedure again and successfully installed the same firmware in the handset. It’s running okay with exception to few bugs but there’s a problem.

I directly downloaded the file from an old tutorial and it was 5.1.1 Lollipop where Z3C can be upgraded to 6.0 Marshmallow. Now I’m afraid if I attempt an OTA upgrade, it’ll either end up installing SO-02G (Docomo Japan) latest OS or brick the device once again. Some people say that I should go for update and it will only upgrade it to Marshmallow for D5803 since it’s already running Lollipop for the same version. Others say I’ll have to find a latest firmware for D5803 and start the procedure all over again.
If I must install another firmware, which one should I choose? Is Global Generic version a better option? I’m from Pakistan where Z3C was never officially launched, so I can take advantage of not having country/region specific apps which are normally loaded in non-global models. Look at the size; 1.05GB vs. 1.59 GB.
And last but not least, how do I know the firmware file I create using Sony FlashTool is of the latest Android Marshmallow 6.0 for Z3C?
I’d prefer a stable stock OS as I am a normal phone user, not a developer, hacker or a gamer. I think after upgrading to Marshmallow, there won’t be any major system update.
I guess images gone missing because system doesn't allow new members to include urls :/

What firmware are you trying to downgrade from?
It would help if you could post more details to allow the community to figure out your problem and help you.
BTW, If your bootloader is higher than the firmware you're trying to downgrade to, then the process will fail. I'd start by double checking that.

First:
I flashed the latest Firmware available from SAMMOBILE.
this firmware
Now I want to downgrade to this firmware
Reason: some of my apps have incompatibility issues..
Thanks
What you are trying to do is not possible, as that would imply a downgrade of de bootloader.
Your firmware G998BXXU4BULF, cannot be replaced by G998BXXS3AUJ7.
Note the underlined/bold numbers above, which indicate bootloader version.
You cannot flash firmware with lower bootloader number, as already stated bij @enigmaamit.
Report your issues with apps to the app-makers, they should update their app to be compatible with Android 12.

Are you using a device which wasn't offered by your service provider? You may need to flash different firmware.
Did you flash your current FW, or did you receive it via OTA? What is your phone's CSC?
If you flashed it earlier, flash again. If not be patient....

I've never flashed anything, I'm using the phone as I bought it about a year ago. I travel a lot though, so I change sim cards quite frequently.
My CSC is G998BOXM3BUK8

Changing SIM-cards regularly could be the cause...
What is shown under software version under phone info - software details - software version provider? (Or similar menu names) See attached SS.
You could consider flashing latest FW. This threat provides all info...

Thanks a lot for checking mate!
Panama! I was not expecting that lol
I guess I'll wait for a few days before I flash a new firmware.
