Experience on New ROM installation - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear XDA users,
I installed new ROM JB cm-10.2-20140101-UNOFFICIAL-cooper++.ZIP developed by Mardon. It was working cool. :good:
Before this i tried to install cm-11-20140102-UNOFFICIAL-cooper.zip experimental KITKAT ROM and it seems some bugs are there, and its not booting properly.
I am awaiting next release from Mardon to install Kitkat Rom on my device Galaxy ACE s5830.
Finally I am a new user and glad to say its my first comment on XDA forum.
Thank you,
Maddy

welcom to the legion

Hi Maddy,
To install cm-11 you must first install the latest CWM. It's called 6.0.4.6-cooper_fix.zip and you'll find a link in the forums. CM 11 will not install correctly from earlier versions of CWM.
Instructions:
Boot into Recovery
Install CWM 6.0.4.6 from zip in Recovery (current CWM)
Reboot Recovery
(in cwm enter mounts and storage menu)
Format /system
Format /cache
Install CM-11 from zip
Install Gapps 4.4.0 from zip
Reboot
Wait
There are newer nightly versions of cm-11 for cooper too they are great.

It is a good practice to format SD before installing a new ROM, I had a lot of problems with FC's when testings some custom ROMS, but finally I could save my phone from dying by formatting the SD and checking for errors.
Hope this can help anybody who is in trouble with ROM installing.

Yes ,you should flash it using CWM but it is better to upgrade ur CWM to 5.0.2.7 or 8.There nothing like that to upgrade form so and so.Just wait for Maclaw to release his beta 4 and flash it through CWM.
INSTRUCTIONS:-(I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR PHONE GETS BRICKED)
FIRST DOWNLOAD CyanogenMod 9.0.0-RC0-GT-S5570-GalaxyICS-KANG-beta4 ZIP AND GAPPS.

5)It takes hardly 4 to 5 mins. now wipe cashe and data.
6)Flash the gapps zip .
7)Now restart your phone.

DON'T FORGET TO PRESS THANKS BUTTON IF THIS HELPED YOU

1)make sure that ur on stock 2.3.6 or any other 2.3.4 with cwm installed.
If you alredy installed any beta or alpha of cm9.no need to flash back again to stock rom.
you dont actualy need to be on 2.3.6 it works with every gingerbread firmware above and 2.3.4
I have installed CM 7.2 RC5.6 and CWM 4.0.0.5
Must I install somthing other for CM9 and could I update from 7.2 to 9?
Is CM9 also in german?

[Q] What is the latest AND most stable CyanogenMOD ROM version for Galaxy Ace S5830?

I need official CyanogenMOD for my Galaxy Ace S5830. The latest that is the MOST STABLE for Ace, meaning if CyanogenMOD 10 is latest but has bugs, and CyanogenMOD 9 is stable, then I want 9.
And I do mean absolutely no bugs whatsoever. ALL apps must be working, such as fm radio, camera, wifi, bluetooth, etc
If you can, please answer these questions as well:
1. To install a custom ROM like CyanogenMOD, is flashing ClockworkMod Recovery a prerequisite?
2. Can I flash ClockworkMod Recovery by first installing "ROM Manager" from play.google.com ? In other words, does ROM Manager have the ClockworkMod Recovery?
3. Do phones need to be rooted to flash a custom recovery (like ClockworkMod Recovery) ?
4. If phone is running CyanogenMOD, can it still use Samsung Kies to restore contacts?
5. What is a nightly?
Thank you so much!!!

Cyanogenmod 7.2 nightly or rc3 are stable. Also cyanogenmod by frozenaceteam is very stable. Cyanogenmod 9 and 10 still have a lot of bugs.
1. Yes you need clockworkmod recovery to install custom roms.
2. Do not install or touch rom manager as it will hard brick your device. Rom manager does not support ace.
3. Yes rooting is essential.
4. Once cyanogenmod is installed, kies will no longer detect phone. Try googling android contact backup.
Click thanks if i helped!

What is a nightly? Is rc3 another custom ROM?
Also, in the ROM Manager page at play.google.com , it says:
"Samsung users: You must flash a Clockwork compatible kernel first (see XDA forums)"
Should I be concerned with this? Not that I wish to use ROM Manager; I'm just curious....
Thanks a lot!

Actually i wouldnt recommend the nightly version, as it still has some bugs and is for advanced users who uprade this every night. Rc3 stands for Real Canidate 3 and is close to becoming final. It has no bugs so i recommend it. These are all variants of cyanogenmod. I also found another rom called cyanogenmod 7.2 official. This is the final release and has no bugs. You can try rc3 or official and see which one is better in battery and performance.
Do not worry about it. You can root it. Then install clockworkmod recovery and flash the rom. There are many tutorials on xda. I recommend watching video tutorials too
Please hit thanks!

RC3 is release candidate. It IS the official build. These are stable builds.Nightly builds on the other hand are builds that are made by Jenkins(build bot) everyday.
I recommend using vo-1's CM build though..
Oh,and you can't use Kies with CM7,and...
NEVER USE ROM MANAGER,it will hard brick your device.

No offense...But most of what you said is wrong...
RC stands for release candidate
Cyanogen Mod 7.2 is a rom.
RC and nightlies aren't variants. These are names for the builds, there are nightlies,Release Candidates and stable builds..
RC3 IS the office build.Ace doesn't have the stable version yet.
CM is pre-rooted and comes with CWM recovery.
Root is also not required for flashing from recovery.

macsenjose18 , hello. No bugs whatsoever? Are you sure? Did you try everything? Wifi, messaging, fm radio, call audio, market, etc.?
If so, how is the speed? and battery performance?
Also, are you referring to the cm10 for ace that is NOT an official cyanogenmod? Because I know cyanogenmod team will not develop cm10 for ace because they know ice cream sandwich would degrade functionality of ace.

Hi prawesome. I still don't get the difference between nightlies and Release Candidates. Are they not "stable" versions?
Also, you say root isn't required to flash a custom recovery?
And you also say "CM is pre-rooted and comes with CWM recovery". But I thought you need to get cwm recovery first before you can flash CM? Why does CM come with CWM recovery when CWM recovery is already a prerequisite?
Anyway, can you just recommend the LATEST STABLE version of cyanogenMOD for Galaxy Ace S5830? and if it's not too much trouble, can you post the link?
Thanks a lot!

I know you asked Prawesome, but I can help you with some of your answers:
The following passage is taken from http://www.cyanogenmod.com/about
"Right now, CyanogenMod consists of two parallel and active major versions: CyanogenMod 7 is based on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), and CyanogenMod 9 is based on Android 4.0 (ICS); CM9-capable devices are being phased out of CM7, but since there’s a large amount of devices still on the market that aren’t capable of fully running Android 4.0, CyanogenMod 7 exists to support them. The variants of the firmware are split into 3 categories, Stable, Release Candidate and Nightlies. The Stable version, as suggested by the title, is the tried and tested variant of the firmware proven to be mostly bug free and suitable for daily use. The latest stable version is available for an assortment of the officially supported devices. A Release Candidate (RC) build may not be the final version, but a variant that has no fatal flaws or bugs, on the stabilization stages to become the final product that is the Stable variant. Lastly we have the Nightlies, which are as volatile as a firmware can get. These releases keep coming at an interval of a day or two and if you do end up trying one of these, do not be alarmed if the your device goes cuckoo on you. These ROMs are largely untested, and as advised by CyanogenMod, not meant for use for an average user. These releases, are meant to test untested waters that may or may not break your phone."
As for the latest official CyanogenMod Rom for our device, go to get.cm (by typing "get.cm" without quotation marks into your browser and look for cooper (not ace))
Cheers
Rich

Official stable download link: http://get.cm/get/2K8
I would say though, that a lot of people find that roms based on Vo-1's version much better, like Droidace, Apocalypse (second last release), and the work Cryss is doing to keep Vo-1's CM7 going for example. I do urge you to give these a try too.
At the end of the day there is no best rom and you must try quite a few to find the one that suits you best.
Happy flashing!

If you take the time to read this thread you will see that
1) nightly versions are unstable by nature and are not recommended for regular users
2) unofficial versions based on vo-1's cm7 are recommended
Try another ROM
@venkatcse539 Try Aplocalypse (its a barebone rom) or cyanmobile (it awesome) or democracy (its latest updated and stable)

I would suggest you to stay with gingerbread ROM. As far as I try, official CM7 + FireKernel is good on speed, performance, and battery life. If you want newer Android, you should give OldDroid's AOSP ICS a try.

Try Apocalypse ROM. It is based on gingerbread and super smooth, also the looks are great

CWM USB/CWM Problems

Hi,
I've got a pretty scary problem on my hands. I tried to install CyanogenMod on my Xperia T trough CWM this morning.
I flashed my device first, wiped it with CWM itself. Then I tried to install CM from a zip I put on my SD-card before. All seemed fine at first. It said
finding update package
opening update package...
Then it just goes back to the main menu of CWM.
When I restarted, I noticed I now have a softbrick, I can only use fastboot and CWM, I tried multiple versions of CM, but they all didn't work.
So I tried to mount USB storage to CWM and that doesn't work either. It just says sdcard 0 (and 1) shared - unmounted.
What can I do to get my phone working again? I really want CM, but if that's not an option, than thats fine....
My bootloader is unlocked, and I am using CWM 6.0.4.5;
I got some error messages out of the log, not sure if theyre helpful
I: Checking for extendedcommand...
I: Skipping execution of extendedcommand, file not found...
I: Can't partition non-vfat: /storage/sdcard0(ext4)

Flash stock 4.1.2
Root it and then try with this CWM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012738
Choose v7 or v8.
DON'T download v9 because it's buggy.
Then you can install CM again
Anyway I suggest to try Omnirom for our beloved T ... since CM has still the blue screen bug that developers haven't fixed yet

Thank you guys for trying to help me out, I really appreciatie it, will keep updating!

FreeXperia team is who develops and lets CM work properly on our T, so the answer is: YES, you will get the same bugs unfortunately

FXP zips are good, I'm just trying to explain that every FXP release is melted with the next CM nightly any time.
Omnirom is a different project and is very stable for Xperia T, since there are developers that are working for this rom nowdays..

FXP and CM generally have the same bugs, but last time I was on FXP's CM11, I can't think of any bug aside from the terrible battery life, which might not be the same for the T since most, if not all, developers have a T (I've got a TX).
On the other hand, I'd recommend you look for ROMs first on XDA instead of through Google or the ROM developer's website, since on XDA there are developers that actually read the comments in threads and in my experience, fix problems faster. For instance, @tilal6991 has this ROM, which I don't know if it is on the official OmniROM download page, but it has had some recent updates that fix the blue screen, MHL Hdmi, and in my case, the ROM I'm on also borrows files from his ROM, which fixes battery drain while on WiFi, something that has NOT been fixed on FXP (which makes me wonder about how they "develop").

Hey buddy...philz touch is old recovery may be that's why it show error...install latest twrp and then try again..it should work because twrp and cwm are recommended recoveries ...
And now both sims work in cm11 perfectly and it can be used as daily driver..
Sorry to say but this is not the Q/A section bro so as soon as you get your problem solved please delete your thread ...

I will delete the thread as soon as it finishes or I am thinking to take screen shots and shift conversation to q/a section so others might get help.
