Hi All,
I've seen a few similar threads to this, but i can't find a clear cut answer so had to start a new one. The problem is whenever i try and flash a custom ROM, my SIM card is not able to be detected, no IMEI number or anything network related except Wireless.
It's not the SIM card, or the connection etc as i have tried a few different SIM cards and all with the same result. Whenever i revert back to stock ROM, the problem is resolved, so i think it's something to do with the custom ROM having some incorrect files for my phone region.
After digging through a few of the similar posts, i decided to take backups of the efs/modemefs directories from when my phone is working, then copied then into the system folder after i flashed the custom ROM (using Root Browser). However, this didn't make any difference.
Does anyone have any idea if there are some other files i need to copy, or if my method of copying is the issue ?
I'm back on stock ROM, so no problems with my phone, but it's really annoying i can't try new ones.
Many Thanks,
Dan

No, its the standard GT-I9070 -it's originally HK firmware and i've seen a few other threads knocking around on this so i'm not sure if it's specific to handsets in this region. It's very annoying though, the phone is not locked or anything, so i can't work out what the problem is
Did you set right permission after restoring the efs backup folder?

Yes, i did set the correct permissions, in the end i followed another guide that had a nice little ADB script that copied the whole partition, directory structure and permissions - rather than using rootbrowser. Anyway, that made no difference but i've just read the guide in the link you posted and it sounds promising, i will try it out in a couple of days when i get a chance ad report back - thanks very much for that - it does seem like HK phones have this problem all the time. Cheers

Yes, it was nothing to do with the EFS etc folders, it was all down to the tee folder as mentioned in the link you posted, something funny about handsets in this region. Anyway - thanks !

Is there any possible way for me to root my phone? I've tried "Root many android", somewhere in this forum but when my phone gets to restore RootMe, nothing happens and I cant proceed.. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance..
P.S.: Im on 4.1.2, updated yesterday.

Well, correct me if im wrong, but in order to flash a ROM without ROOTING I need to unlock Bootloader?
First Read the rules. You are not allowed to bump a thread in less than 24 hours.
Secondly Read the all in one thread. It is not hard to find, it's the first thread in this section

No, not on this firmware but it is possible to get that firmware with root via downgrading to .303 (ICS), rooting with Bin4rys method, installing recovery and flashing a rooted .489 ROM.

Why would you not root if you unlock your bootloader? Unlocking your bootloader is done to allow flashing of custom kernels, all of which are rooted. After unlocking your bootloader your warrenty is void, but you could root the phone and keep warrenty. And all custom roms are rooted so once you flash a custom ROM you have root....

2. Rooted only

4. For flashing instructions please check TiMiN8R's post ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2026918 ). This rom comes from reverse engineering of TiMiN8R's 489 rom.
5. Please download and install SuperSU from any app store by yourself.

Is CWM for locked bootloader available to this rom?
I ask so because CWM is not work in 490 stock root (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173298) ,
which is also a odex version.
Not sure if there is something to do between CWM and (de)odex.

Will this or will not work with the 489 kernel and is there any difference since the 489 build?
The OP should ask the moderators to move this to development.
It's pretty much an ftf, but if you convert it to a. Zip and root it then it's not general.

it works fine with the .489 kernel because the kernel hasn't changed. Other changes I can't say yet.

Upgrading would brick the phone or maybe I would just loose CWM and rooting?

You'll get the notification.
You need stock recovery to install it.
You'll need to not have deleted or modified anything it wants to patch for installation to succeed.

Hello XDA. Im new to Galaxy s as i got it from my brother, and now im a bit stuck. I have the latest gamerzrom installed which has devilkernel and i guess its own devil touch kernel 6.0 something. The rom is 4.2.2 and it has been installed through cm 10.1. My problem is, i cant install cm 11, it gives me error 7, and i guess its because i need clockworkmod and i want to know how?
So the goal is to install cm11 from gamerzrom, problem is i need CWM and ibdont know how to get it.

I suggest you to use TWRP, it's included in the Mackay Kernel, and it's more intuitive and responsive, give it a try!

Not necessary, if i remember right the Devil Kernel includes a custom recovery based on CWM, if through it you flash the Mackay Kernel it has the TWRP chosen by default but you can easily switch to CWM editing a file, as explained in its OP

Is it flashed via Odin? On my old device you could just flash kernels in a zip file though recovery?
Yes, is this
You can install through Odin , but it must have .TAR extension;
on the contrary, the way most easy is to reboot in recovery (holding home&power&volume up for nearly 10s), wiping cache, wiping Dalvik cache in Advanced, and then installing the .zip selecting it you have downloaded before
Inviato dal mio GT-I9505 utilizzando Tapatalk
---------- Post added at 10:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:51 PM ----------
Finally, if you want, you can wipe cache and Dalvik cache again to mantain the device 'clean'

Have you tried the cm Mackay based rom? It's updated by kasper_h nearly every week, it's a version slimmed and edited to improve speed and stability (and i also slimmed it removing things that i don't use such as live wallpapers, meteo, alarms and ringtones), the first time i try it i'm remained impressed by its smoothness

Especially with switching between home screen and app drawer and switching between notification bar. With dalvik don't have this. Also have had this problem with ART on CM11 by maclaw.
Gonna try ART again, just updated carbon to build 3
