Car Bluetooth Adapter - G2 Accessories

So my old miccus blubridge is finally going out. I connect my Bluetooth adapter to my car via a rca to 3.5mm cable so I need a device that doesn't have a hardwired cable in it. Also, given where it connects, it needs to have a battery. The two I've been looking at are the victsing Bluetooth 4.0 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00E5...c=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_details_o00_s00_i01) and HomeSpot NFC enabled Bluetooth (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009O...ound system&qid=1370612861&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1). Any thoughts on either in terms of battery life or performance? Any other suggestions?

Anyone? It doesn't have to be the ones I listed.

Try this one. I charges using the same micro usb as your phone. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008AGQMQC/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I just got this one and love it so far. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009NLTW60/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1390874209&sr=8-1
The g2 supposed to have apt-x support, and this one supports apt-x.

Fast Charge, Charging Pinout Questions

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere; I couldn't find anything.
I'm looking into getting some spare chargers for my Tilt. I read at Pocket PC Techs that the device has a distinct "fast charge" mode, that uses a special pinout. Is this true?
If so, does the charger that comes with the Tilt use this fast charge mode? It seems to be just a standard mini-USB charger (data sheet here).
The link to Pocket PC Techs is actually to an adapter that they sell that is suppose to give you a fast charge with any USB charger. I'm wondering under what circumstances I'd have to use this.
Anyone know what the fast charge pinout is, and which third-party chargers use it?
Thanks.
ISTR reading something about pins 4 & 5 being tied together on some chargers -- should be very easy to test this.
I have not tested this but I suspect the pin out is the same as the Hermes:
http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk/blogs/index.php/2006/09/10/htc_hermes_usb_connector_pin_config
The USB charging is done with different connections and at a different mA rating. The mains charger is 1000mA and is what I would call the normal charging system (but what the site you show, refers to as fast charge - but only by comparison to USB charging) This is just about standard for many sync/charge PDAs and not a special feature of the Kaiser.

I do notice a huge difference in speed comparing my old razor usb power adapter vs usb cable into my computer vs tilt power adapater so it prolly makes sense

Yep, the Razor adapter only delivers 500mA not 1000mA
Mike
Plus the razor charger does not have the pins 4-5 shorted, this is a HTC tweak that lets the phone know that it's on a charger vs std. USB power and it may in fact charge at a higher rate upon detecting this. I just know that my Hermes occasionally did strange things like turn off BT radio and other odd things when connecting/disconnecting from different chargers. Kaiser seems better at this.
For a couple of weeks now, I have been charging my Kaiser at work by using the adapter that came with my Audiovox SMT5600. It's been working fine. I cannot however determine if this charges any faster or slower than the Kaiser's adapter.
Slow Charging
So that would explain when I use GPS in the car with my old RAZR charger why the battery still drains. Darn, looks like I'll have to buy a new car charger.
USB Charging
are there any issues iwth battery drain or lif when charging with the USB cable connected to a computer?
Thanks,
g
Is there a specific USB charger.

I wouldn't think it would need to be tested. As per this page:
HTC has developed a range of accessories that are compatible across all HTC devices for consumer's ease of use. These include the BH M200 (Bluetooth headset), HS U110 (3.5 mm audio adapter and headset), and the HS S200 (HTC standard stereo wired headset) to enable effective communications on the move.

If the audio adapter and hard wired headset are compatible across all HTC devices (per HTC themselves), then that confirms that the pinout of the audio side is the same. And it's been mentioned earlier that the data side follows the mini-usb standard, which I can confirm: I'm using the usb cable from my camera to connect my Kaiser to my PC at home, while I use the supplied cable to connect it to my work PC.

I would like to use my old Himalaya MDA II Hands Free DSP Car Kit for my new Kaiser (as that I only have to buy a passive holder).
I tried to find a ExtUSB 11-lead Pre-wired Connector Plug ....but it is impossible..any suggestions?

I am experiencing a similar issue with an USB/car adapter and the USB cable that came with the Tilt.
Ran Google Maps yesterday with GPS on and when I got home my phone was almost empty. It was charging the whole time in the car though.
Does this mean I should look for another USB cable that is shorting those pins?
What about these adapters that plug into the phone and allow you to connect a USB cable for charging and a 3.5mm audio plug?

Any problems with me using my old Razr car charger on my Kaiser? Typically I charge mine every night with the standard charger but in case of emergency I'd like to use my Razr car charger
Thanks
In answer to the original question, yes, pins 4 & 5 are shorted on the OEM charger that ships with the Tilts, thus enabling it to fast-charge the phone at currents greater than 500ma.
Hopefully this helps,

[Q] HDMI Dock digital audio out

Just bought the dock thing and tried to put it to work with the HDMI out on a philips HD tv, and it happens that there is no audio at all. I know the analog speakers are disabled when the HDMI is working, the audio provided by the HDMI is really not working.
I have no clue of what is happenning. I am getting just the image fom the tab but no audio at all.
I hope someone knows what is going on and help me.
I'd really appreciate the help.
tks.
Hi. The problem seems to be application dependent. When I use RockPlayer and VitalPlayer digotal audio is there through a docking station. Other players including stock one output just analog audio. Regards. K
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk
Tks mate but when I used the rock player I am still getting no sound at all. Its not just the rock player but even the native one or any music player. The sound isn't passing through the hdmi cable.

I will conect the tab to the TV set in few minutes to double check my findings once more. Btw I use the latest firmware MCD. Regards K
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk
Actually, I can now confirm that I have digital audio output from the docking station with any of the mwdia players including the stock one. When initially started, all the players mute the audio when the tab is in the station. Pls volume up through hardware keys and you will have the audio output. Regards K
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk
The volume is up when plugin to the dock and yet I get no sound changed the volume up and down but no answer. Have two Philips televisions and different models here and on both I get the same issue, no digital sound. The analog sound is fine when plugin the av cables. Now I wonder if the hdmi cable isn't working or is the tv that doesn't like the dock.

Can you post the details of the cable including it's version number. It may be you have an incorrect cable.

I bought the dock to connect the tab to my projector and I found out that when the hdmi is in use all the audio will go to the hdmi cable.
Now my projector has very poor speakers and no audio out. I really hate that I can't use my Bluetooth speakers when using the dock.
There is some way to split the hdmi signal in video and analog audio?

Still have video and no sound
So, I still have the problem. I have the dock connected to power from the supplied (5v 2a) adapter. I then connect it to my tv. Video works great. I also speculated that maybe I had to use the 3.5mm jack for sound but that isn't working either.
I also have an adapter for rca-out and that's working fine, but I'd rather have the better quality available to me via HDMI.
I've got no solution yet. As I did, put here your the specs of your cable, maybe its something about that cable tho.

hdmi cable info
So, it's still not working for me. I don't have the box the other cable came in so today I went out and got a new one. I now have one of these:
http://www.digitalwarehouse.nl/hdmi-kabel-type-a-type-c-mini-2m.html
It is a type-A <-> type-C high speed HDMI Cable. I told the guy when I bought it that it had to be v 1.3 and he said it was though I don't see that on the box any where. I know for sure that my original cable was a v 1.3 because I remember reading that on the box when I bought it.... The only other info I see on the packaging is this:
Transfer rate: 10,2 Gbit/s
BandWidth 340 MHz
ARC audio return channel
My problem persists and to eliminate other potential causes, I've now tried it on another TV as well: no dice
It could very well be the cable. I have had some HDMI cables not output sound from DVD players. Here is the cable I bought and it outputs everything, sound, video the works.

Having my tab on my TV rocks
right cable
Well, I live in sweden. Ordering from Amazon is not ideal for me. Is there any other way I can get an indication that it might be the cable? I am loathe to keep buying cables assuming that it's the issue... I mean, is there something on the cable itself that I can look for? Certains pins or something?
/geir
I dont know that much about HDMI cables, does kinda seem pointless to keep buying cables.
Possibly google it? I would say try it on something else, however nothing else you own probably need A to C hdmi connection.
All I know is thats the cable I bought and it works perfect for me on my 4 year old projection LCD
Tested the cable with something else...
Ok, so my daughter has a camcorder which will take a mini hdmi cable. I just tested both cables with her camcorder and both of them give me video and sound...
If the cable is the issue it's definitely not because it isn't at all capable of handling audio
Any chance anyone has any other ideas? I just have this feeling there is something else going on... Like maybe I need to flash to a new version or something.
I have a european tab, in case that matters.

I was looking for something similar a while back. I'm in the UK and still haven't tracked one down
You can find a y otg cable HERE. If you need several USB port, you have to use an USB hub. And also you must flash a kernel with USB host mode charging patches.

Something like this perhaps? It had a usb a cable with a switched 5v lead (for host mode charging), that end plugs into a regular usb otg cable. The other side has female usb a (for devices), mini usb (for most small usb hubs), and male usb a (for connecting to a power source, in the 2nd pick there is a 2000 mAh usb battery)
I couldn't find anyone selling them so I started making them. I could make you one or post a wiring diagram and you can go to town on it.

I have the usb car rom and kernel by http://mehrvarz.github.io/nexus-7-usbrom/, this should work. yes I would like the same as yours please.
I have alot to do to my car anyways, I previously re modded my dash to fit a double din and modded out my boot to fit the base amp and power cap in the boot still having the spare in there and the base actually fitting inside the spare wheel and still sounding good, so will have to research the wiring needed for the nexus and the volume control and such...please be nice with the price, I do appreciate it though.
I am in the uk, where are you from?
I found the kernel you compiled, wondering if this will work with the rom I installed too.
It might, its all cm10.1 source. The current version does not support host mode, the updated one I'm posting this week does (just so you know). If it does work for you you could do some fun wardriving with your car mount, if your into that sort of thing!

You can message me the diag if you like, please forward it to fixer14 at hotmail.com.
Ok cool, its a pretty straight forward design. If you can solder you can make one.

Ok matey, hit me up with the details then please.
I have just been out to my car and have set my phone up via bluetooth, and also want my nexus to connect to the phone and have sound, calls, satnav running to the amp via phone, when I try to connect it seems that it will only allow 1 device at a time, so this is an issue for me, I want to be able to run my copilot live from the nexus, and also have ability to play music and receive and make calls. is there a bluetooth receiver that will allow me to do this without having to switch to a specific device each time...any ideas welcome, my nexus is not a 3g one.
My amp is a 4 channel Hertz, with powercap installed.
I'm installing my nexus 7 in my car as well but I'm concerned that it wont charge while running Nav, Pandora and other apps at the same time. It seems that the nexus 7 is picky when it come to cables and chargers. What do you guys suggest

Ive got my nexus 7 installed into my double din, I'm using a Parrot device to bluetooth sound to but also charging it from the usb slot from the Parrot box.
I'm going to change the bluetooth to a AUX cable to save on battery use and already tried optimising settings to save on battery.
I'm not very clued up on this type of stuff but I've got it so the screen comes on and status on when power is there, got screen dimming widgets so I can dim the screen right down when I want to save battery.
All in all it works very well but battery does eventually die after a week or two so I take it out for a full recharge.
A couple of ideas I'm thinking is
1) using usb extension cable, run it to the glove box and every couple of days attach a emergency battery charging unit.
2) using a little solar panel charging unit built into parcel shelf.

I am not concerned about power usage as an inverter will solve this permenantly. As long as you get the correct charger for use with the inverter.
Im going with this charger. From the looks of it, it seems to be a good choice.

I wonder why more developers don't include the fast charge option in their kernels. Ill let everyone know how it works
Okay, I have just made up a dock for the nexus for my car, it is in "Production State" at the mo, so I still have to tidy it up and spray it and finish it.
I have fitted a charging connector and audio connector into it,
Hardest part was getting the connectors to line up.
At least it is started now, I will be making up the OTG cable, when I get the wiring diagram for it, have all the bits ready.
Okay, here is the Video, I know the dock looks rough at the moment, but it has to be tidied up.

Samsung Smart Dock HDMI not working. ARGH!

Hi all,
I know there have been other postings regarding this, but none have helped me solve my situation:
I have a "stock ROM" AT&T Note 2, and have tried two different Smart Dock units from Fry's. I get NO usable HDMI signal from either when connecting to my ASUS V228H monitor; the HDMI cable/monitor have been checked as working by connecting my DVD recorder up and successfully playing video content. USB connections to a wired keyboard and mouse worked well on unit #1, for some reason not on unit #2. There was no improvement when I rebooted the phone into safe mode. Lastly, the phone is correctly recognized by a PC when connecting via USB (MTP mode).
I'm ready to scrap the whole Smart Dock idea and instead buy an MHL-to-HDMI adapter and bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo, which I think can be found with total price just around that of the Smart Dock... unfortunately, I guess there's no "splitter" that could let me hook a hard drive up as well, like I could with the Smart Dock.
Does anyone have any ideas? I of course would hate to have to hard reset the phone, but might do it if there's really a good chance of it helping.
Final question: is it possible that the microUSB connector at the base of the phone could get damaged in such a way that USB to PC connections work, but MHL video does not?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
did you plug the dock into an original Samsung charger?
did you reboot?
mhl takes a lot of power, so you need to have the charger plugged in to make it work.
and the usb port can get stuck in a certain mode if you've used it too much without rebooting, a simple reboot will reset it.
I am using the new micro-USB to USB cord connected to the wall charger (FYI, plugged into a power-strip, not directly into a wall outlet, would that actually lead to MHL getting too litle power?). The phone was recently rebooted. I have typed this response using a USB-connected mouse, so at least that's working. HDMI is STILL not working.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
I'm guessing that unless it's specifically stated for the gn2, like the samsung dock, the microusb connector is using 5 pins instead of 11. That's the issue you'll have with mhl adapters, too: find an 11 pin, or buy the 5-> 11 adapter.
If it says compatible with the note (not note2) or evo, that's a pretty solid guarantee it's using 5 pins.
-----
I would love to help you, but help yourself first: ask a better question
http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
in this case the amount of pins is irrelevant. (edit: unless you didn't get a note 2 smart dock)
have you tried a different screen/TV and cable?
there are multiple versions of HDMI, and your cable or screen may be sufficient for an old DVD player but not a newer device.
Interesting that nowhere on the Smart Dock's box does it say "compatible with Note 2". But looking up the part # on the Samsung.com accessories site yields the following description:
Smart Dock Multimedia Hub
EDD-S20JWE
Compatibility: Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S4
As for HDMI protocols changing over time leading to incompatibilities... WTF? They don't need to create specification version numbers like USB to clue the user in? I will test your theory with an MHL to HDMI dedicated connector purchased today. If you're right, even this device won't work with my monitor...
This is going to sound like the annoying tech support people on the phone but... are you sure everything is plugged in tight?
I only ask because when I first got my smart dock I was getting picture but no sound with my hdmi cable and I was about to try a different cable but decided to try replugging everything first and voila...it started working!
It didn't make sense to me because it must be plugged in if it's working even a little but apparently either the phone wasn't docked all the way or more likely I hadn't pressed the hdmi cable in enough.
Would be nice if it's that simple in your case. Good luck!
Sent From My Ginormous Note 2
Thank you for the suggestion. Yes, I had tested the Smart Dock's connections to make sure all were tight. No improvement.
I have given up on the Samsung Smart Dock for now. A "rig" that appears to be working is as follows:
1) Cirago MHL1000 MHL-to-HDMI adapter.
2) Mobile Phone->Voyage adapter (Micro 5 pin to 11 pin)
3) Comkia 3 foot HDMI cable.
4) ASUS VE228H monitor
5) HYPE Bluetooth Curve optical mouse
6) SMK-LINK Versapoint Bluetooth Slim Keyboard
You are definitely right about needing to check on the connection status of the various connectors. I periodically lose the HDMI video signal, which requires that I press the MHL adapter's plug tighter into the 5-to-11 pin connector. Yes, I also have the case off the Note II when attaching everything.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app (using the rig above).
Okay, I'm noticing that the HDMI signal gets lost every 5-10 minutes and blacks out the monitor for 5-10 secs. I also have been having the issue of definitely less than 1080p output (not sure if even 720p) except for video player and Angry Birds Star Wars which do look good.
Is this a problem of the Cirago MHL1000 plus 5-> 11 pin converter, which would be solved if I just spent some more bucks on a Samsung HDTV cable with 11 pins? Will the Samsung MHL 2.0 cable for the S4 provide better output for a Note 2 than the Samsung S3/Note 2 cable?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
Okay, I sucked it up and bought the Samsung MHL 2.0 HDTV cable for the S4 and backward compatible with the Note 2. I think I've gotten things as good as it's going to get. Video out is stable and actually at higher resolution than using a Cirago cable and a 11 to 5-pin converter.
I unfortunately have no USB input capability for hard drive access. Is there any adapter to insert in the "circuit" to let me attach a HD to the Note 2 if its MicroUSB is already occupied by the MHL to HDMI cable?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
hi
Hello, I have a problem when connecting a peripheral (mouse, keyboard, etc) the screen automatically flips and turns black, saying, which it is connected by hdmi too. that's not right.
otherwise it has explain, does not leave me connect the mouse and keyboard, because the s4 assumed that this also connected the hdmi.

One cable for in car audio and charge - possible?

The talk around the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack from some phones has got me thinking... is it possible to have a cable in my car that I plug into the OnePlus3 USB C port, that then provides power AND audio out? I don't need DASH charging (but reasonably fast charging would be good), and I have a 3.5mm jack in my car, so is this possible, and if so, what would I need to connect from USB C to power and audio our (3.5mm)?
Why? My car has Bluetooth audio, but it's a pain. When I start the car it's not instant on. Sometimes it decides not to connect. Sometimes audio drops out. I also have another phone for work, but my car only allows a single bluetooth connection, so when I'm travelling for work, I'd like my work phone connected to Bluetooth for calls and my OnePlus3 connected via 3.5mm for audio. BUT I don't want another cable to connect. I want this simple and quick!
Any thoughts?!
is the BT in your car an embedded head unit?
you could get an FM-BT transmitter device like these:
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_...transmitter&sprefix=bluetooth+fm+tran,aps,332
which you could use instead of, or in addition to, your current BT solution
---------- Post added at 10:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:38 AM ----------
as a side note, what you're asking for is definitely POSSIBLE, but likely a bit expensive and may not be SUPPORTED by your sound system.
Yes, my car has Bluetooth in the factory fitted head unit. Its just that Bluetooth tends to be a pain. Takes 30seconds to connect after I start the car, etc. And as my car also has 3.5mm input I was just thinking there may be a more elegant solution using USB C.

like i said, there is (since USB-C can carry audio, even video and ethernet etc), but i'm pretty sure your car's head unit won't support it.

Yeah, I get that, and like I said, my car has a 3.5mm input. So I need USB C -> Power and Audio via 3.5mm output. Something like the adaptor that comes with the Moto Z: http://www.androidcentral.com/moto-zs-usb-c-headphone-jack-adapter
But, I'd like to split the USB C off to provide power input as well as audio out. So I was thinking something like a USB C hub. But not sure if that would still provide the USB C Audio out as well as enough power to charge the phone.

But, I'd like to split the USB C off to provide power input as well as audio out. So I was thinking something like a USB C hub. But not sure if that would still provide the USB C Audio out as well as enough power to charge the phone.

you could try that adapter + a USB-C hub
I've used my Nexus 6P with USB-C hub to use mice/keyboard/flashdrive while charging my phone via USB-C, i assume OP3 is no different since it has USB-OTG as well (won't charge faster than 1.5A via the hub though)
What you need is a USB C DAC. Here. use an OTG cable from your phone to a hub. Plug the DAC into the hub. Audio will route out USB to DAC and then you can plug a 3.5mm cable into the DAC for high quality audio. The otg will charge the phone at the same time.
