Pls give me Full Screen Notifications!!! - Samsung Galaxy Gear

Went from pebble to gear now to sony smartwatch 2.
I have simple needs. Why when a email notification comes in, I get a pretty icon, sender, subject and poss 1 line of text and a lot of black space.
I don't want to then go to the notifications, and click on the email to see it. On the sony it uses the full screen to show all of the message, then goes away. If I want to see it again, I can go to the email app....
The gear is so much better, but I get 100's of emails a day and a 2 line notification sucks
Anyone ???

You only get to see whatever notification is available in the notification drop down on the phone
Some firmware and gear manager combinations don't give any email body with Exchange

If that's the case, is there a email client that will show email as they come in???? It's so nice to see the text of a msg while driving without having to fumble around....
I know it may come but k9 and touchdown have a extension for the sony that does it
In galaxy gear app under notifications there is a tick box for preview message, but it still gives you very little

Until Samsung release an sdk, no
You can install custom rom (null_) along with gapps and email client that can access internet via Bluetooth tethering

On the stock e-mail client on my N3 used with Exchange I get 14 lines of text, more when there aren't images in the original e-mail and the stupid "images are not supported" banner takes up the equivalent of two lines of text.

tether your gear with your phone, place a gmail widget on your homescreen. that way you will have instant access to your mails..

Will they release a sdk and more so we can all get alot more?

i don't count for it anymore. maybe when new gear is released..

So you are saying you get 14 lines of text on the Galaxy Gear???

I'm on null 15 (waiting for null 20 before I update) and I don't get much of any email text. I use maildroid and have it set to push notifications from maildroid to my gear, but I don't even get text, just the option to see the email on the watch. The one thing I would love for a developer (or Samsung) figure out is to get email to push via Bluetooth (not internet tether). I don't need to see pics, just the message text. Unless I'm missing something, as of now there is now way to push and pull emails to the gear from the phone. If there is, someone please chime in on how to do this. BTW, I have 5 separate email accounts (personal and 4 business accounts) all through gmail so I get lots of emails. So I would need a way for all my accounts to be pushed. Again, any insight on how to do this please post. Thanks.

I have done this already, but some of those apps notifications aren't pushed, for whatever reason. I'm hoping null 20 will include notiwidget and other tweaks that will allow better notification push, especially with email. I get my calls pushed just fine, with tablet talk my texts are completely pushed, it's just emails, and I get no text for those, only the option to "view on phone". Like I said, I'm sure some of this will be addressed in Null 20 and other tweaks for the Gear in the coming months.

I just felt the overall package and experience was better on Gear vs SM2. Just seems more refined. I like the gestures, finger swipes. You can do more with Gear as well, SM2 seemed to be all about getting notifications and not much else.
Now I have to admit, I got the Gear for around $200 with that T-Mobile promo a few months ago. So in my mind, I'm comparing two $200 devices side by side... and in that case, getting more bang for the buck with the Gear.
However, despite all thid, I agree - don't think there will be an SDK until Gear 2... which is rumored to be coming out this Spring. So I'm also thinking of selling my Gear and getting the Sony instead, lol. I should be able to at least get back what I paid for the Gear. Even though I like Gear better, having a smartwatch work across multiple, non-Samsung devices is more important to me. I don't always want to have to use my Note just so that I can use the Gear.

Not getting text notifications

I am receiving notifications via sms know phone but not to the gear. Anyone else experiencing this?
Do you have sms notifications enabled in gear manager?
I'm getting some - but maybe 25% of them only. Very odd that something so simple could have so many problems.
I am not getting any texts or emails. Quite frustrating.
Only the default messenger app seems to work, no 3rd party one. Also if the phone is unlocked at the time the notification comes in, it will not be sent to the gear.
Notifications need a serious overhaul to enable system wide notification support like the pull down menu in android....
Remember, it's pretty new territory for android so patience is a virtue. Early adopters will feel most of the pain ^^

If it's still the default settings you wont get email notifications. The Gmail app isn't selected by default and it can only tell you you have an email with the gmail app anyway. It won't show who it's from etc, only the stock Samsung email app can give you info on emails when they come in. If you aren't getting texts, you should open the gear manager app on the Note 3, select "Settings", then select "Notification" and make sure "Messages" is checked.

Are tou usi g any other bluetooth devices while the gear is connected?
Try removing those.
Also worthwhile removing the gear using the gear manager > paired gear > remove before last resorting to factory reset?
Maybe something buggered up during the initial setup.

Are you using a Note 3? Your sig says Note 2. If you aren't using a Note 3 that is probably the problem, If you are you might want to try resetting the Gear in settings and then re-pair it and see if notifications start after that.
For what it's worth I've had zero problems getting any notifications I've selected on the Gear.

Restarting or turning notifications in gear manager off then on temporarily makes them notifications work again
Also make sure Blocking Mode isn't currently active.
I'm now getting the notification issue above, but with a variance...
My Samsung Note 3 was sending all kinds of notifications to my Gear (Mk.1) with no problem at all.
However I was having other problems and decided to do a Factory Reset.
After the Factory Reset it no longer sends any notifications at all to the Gear.
I have other apps that communicate successfully two-way with the Gear but not a single notification from any app makes it through.
I have done all of the things suggested above to no avail.
The notifications are turned on, additional notifications for other apps are turned on, but still no notifications whatsoever arrive on the Gear. The Gear Manager app has permissions for Notifications
The Note 3 is rooted and running Android 4.3.
The Gear Mk.1 says: s/w V700XXUBNC1 Model SM-V700.
Any ideas?

I had a replacement phone and decided not to turn S Voice in the gear manager and had no SMS notifications. It took a few days to work it out.
I was getting other notifications but it was the SMS that wasn't coming through. I turned is Voice on in the phone but it still didn't work and realised it not turned it on when setting up the Gear Manager... I'd not checked the S Voice box on its first start up!
To go back I uninstalled the Gear Manager then reinstalled it and when the setup screen came back and I got my SMS notifications back by running S Voice on the Gear as well as the phone. It may not be the issue in this thread but just wanted to save anyone the hassle that gets this.

Email notifications, what info?

I have my Gear set up with my Note 3 and it seems to be working ok.
I am getting notifications through, but I cannot get into the email on the Gear to read it.
I understand that with GMail you only get basic info, but i was of the understanding that an email account set up in the stock email app, should deliver a notification and you should be able to get the text body of the email?
Has anyone else managed to get the text body?
If I try and select the email in the notifications I regularly get a error, "Sorry notifications has stopped"
Any help appreciated.

Reply to text messages

Ok folks,
I have my new Samsung Gear Live and its paired to my HTC One M7
Although I'm sure that I should be able to reply to SMS messages, the option is not available.
I can say "OK Google" "text fred bloggs" from the home screen and that works.
Do you think the limitation is something to do with HTC's SMS client?
Rik
I have the Live w/HTC One M8.
I'm inclined to believe that the reason my replies work is because I have (just started) SMS texting via Hangouts. I only switched from my normal texting client because I knew that the Wear watches would work out of the box w/Hangouts.
That said, Hangouts is a pretty lousy texting app, but I like that it's baked into Wear.

Ok so I don't have my Gear live yet (is on the truck out for delivery), however I asked a similar question and for what I understand you won;t be able to replay to the SMS until the App is updated with the new API to support that. I believe the only one that currently support that is Google own's "Hangouts".
On Google's promotional video for Android Wear, where the guy is on the bus, he gets a text message and says, "reply - be there in 2" and the message is sent.
That does not seem to work but you can make a swipe until you get a "reply" screen that enables you to speak a reply.
Thanks for the info chaps.
I don't even have the swipe across to reply option - all I get is the open on phone option
The reply by voice is one of the key things I was hoping for.
Naughty Google promo's grrrrrr.
Oh well - I suppose we are the beta testers
Same issue here with Gear Live and HTC One M7. I can "Open on phone" when I receive an SMS, but no reply options. Assuming this is a limitation of the HTC Messaging client not being "Wear-aware".... although FWIW I can reply to SMS natively on my M7 via Google Glass, which is essentially using the same set of APIs as far as I know.
So I switched (grudgingly) to Hangouts as my SMS client and all works fine. (Interestingly, the HTC SMS client as well as Google Voice continue to stay synched with Hangouts in the background, so I can still use the GV app or Web interface from other devices.)

no i think it needs to support android wear specifically. hangouts and evolve both do as of right now, i'd imagine most of the big apps will follow suit sooner rather than later since they stated that it was minimal amount of code that needed to be added in

The stock text message app on the Samsung Galalxy S5
I'm using Hangouts on an N5, but anytime that I try to send a message, it defaults to SMS (through Hangouts) instead of a chat message, which is what I want. Even if I'm replying to a chat that someone just sent me, it tries to send it as an SMS. Quite annoying.

that won't work until samsung updates their apps to include wear support.
as of right now the only apps i know of are evolve sms and hangouts
when i initially received my watch, I added most of the apps to my G2. I'm using contacts+ for SMS which has wear compatibility. works fine for verbal replies from the watch.

Expanded Notifications

Hi all. Was just wondering with notifications, is there anyway to view each notification in full? For example, if I get one text from one person, I can read the entire thing, but if I get 2 or more texts from the same person, they are all grouped together and you end up only seeing the first few words of the text. This is even more noticeable for whatsapp. Is there any way to solve this issue? Thanks.

It all depends on the app supporting wear
Latest couple of whatsapp versions support wear and show each individually (can even reply via voice)
I would like to see more that a title of an exchange email but I think it has something to do with exchange.
It is the same if you have a Pebble, Gear or Android Wear, with Gmail you can read the email, with exchange you can not

It all has to do with how the notification gets delivered by the app itself, nothing to do with the watch

Thoughts on Message+ vs Samsung Messaging vs anything else?

I remember trying Message+ awhile ago and not liking it. Was thinking of giving it another try with this phone. Thoughts?
I use chomp. Lots of nice features.
I practically live on Message+ because I can receive and reply from my s8, iPhone 7+, iPad pro, and SurfaceBook. I've used Textra, Chomp, Messenger, tried all of them, but have always gone back to Message+.
I never tried messages+ but it has kind of a low rating and bad reviews on the Playstore. I use Textra, it's my favorite now but there are many to choose from.
Sent from my SM-G950U using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I liked Message+ for the most part with previous phones, but it got to be a battery hog for no apparent reason, slowed down my phone, etc. I've stayed away from it since. I'm not minding the Samsung Messaging app so far. I'm usually a Textra user, because it's so light. But I like the stock app for now.

Incoming messages should send alerts to all of your connected devices. I get notified at my primary phone, my remote devices, and my Huawei watch. If I acknowledge the notification on one device, it syncs across other devices. It's been that way for me for a while.
I use MySMS in conjunction with Rambox. It's awesome as it allows you to reply to text messages at work without using your phone.
Used to be huge fan of GoSMS Pro but too many stinking ads......I use paid version of Textra and love it.
I recently switched to Pulse and it is definitely my favorite SMS app so far. Native black theming and lots of different settings and options. It has the ability to use any device to text, but it's a monthly payment. Has the ability to do lifetime for 10$ though. I might do that here soon.
I like Message+ because of all the customization you can do. It is more than the stock Samsung or android messager. Also, Verizon keeps your texts so that if you reset your phone or switch phones you can download all your messages back.:good:

One feature I'd like to have is send delay. Auto-correction can play havoc sometimes. It'd be useful if I have 3, 5 seconds to edit my text.
anyone else having problems sending MMS through Message+
Message + for me too. I normally use Textra myself but am liking the features of Message +.
Message + is getting annoying. I am trying to like it. I hate how it highlights certain words which make them difficult to edit. I realize it is to show emoticons but still.
Message + on galaxy s8... Has anyone experienced old messages being delivered to new recipients? I have noticed that I have about 3 copies of every message in a conversation. It also appears as if pictures were being sent to random groups of people. Which I'm sure some of you can imagine could be potentially embarrassing.

I like Textra a lot. Heck, I like them all, Chomp, Handcent, GoSMS, even Messenger. However, as I carry 4 phones and 3 tablets, plus desktops/laptops, I have to use one that can sync across multiple devices.
