I bought a c6903 from Negri Electronics and used it on AT&T.
I started off at .257 and system updated to .290. fastfoward a couple weeks and I want to root
So I had to go back to .534, when I went to download a tft, they did not have my exact model, so I used the british version.
Installed fine and everything, but when the phone booted there was no signal.(IMEI turned to 00000000... crap) I figured i would root and just flash a rom from there. I rooted with vroot and got a very funky chinese superuser. When I try to backup my TA partition it says it couldnt get root, but root checker gets root, it shows a prompt. I tried installing superuser from the play store. Is there a way i can just get back to .290 for my model, or what should I do help is really needed so thank you.
I want to end up at cm11
to sum it up, I restored to .534 (british version, no signal, no imei) , rooted with vroot (annoying root computer wont recognize the root, I have debugging enabled), didnt unlock bootloader or anything like that yet.
Thanks for helping i just need my phone to have signal at least.

Use for rooting this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
Use V33 option 0. When you upgrade to 290 you will get your imei back.If you unlock your bootloader don't forget to make a TA backup for your DRM keys.

You have this issues because you do not read carefully, You can't downgrade directly to .534, first you have to do is to downgrade to .257 and then to .534. Follow the instruction and all will be fine and remember to Backup TA before Unlock Bootloader.
Backup TA need root frist?
as what I know if you need root frist flash 534 file and root the phone
then ota to 257 and flash 257 kernel .is that correct?

I don't know about that but to get root you have to be on .534, root with Vroot and then Backup TA and then Update, so what the kernel for, dual recovery? if you update to .290 you will wipe it anyway.
Okay I managed to back up my Ta, but now when I want to unlock the bootloader I need to submit my IMEI, but I have none. Should I take my IMEI from the box or is there another way around this? Btw there is a system update available right away to .257. What should I do? I just want to have service and be on cm11, so if I can just flash cm11 from this version (.534) somehow, that would be the best solution.

If you did a backup of your TA and DRM keys you can do whatever you want now, if you want get you IMEI back you have to update to .290 and then Unlock Bootlader and then follow the installation of the CM11.

Simply use flashtool to flash a .534 firmware and root using vroot or kingoroot. You dont need to unlock your bootloader to do any of this. Currently .257 firmware is not rootable but there are stock custom roms which are pre-rooted based on .257 firmware.
ps. is your bootloader unlocked or locked?
Locked bootloader.
everything working and rooted gain, learn some new flashtool things.
Thanks

Heyy guys I have a XperiaSP which have unlocked bootloader and unrooted phone (just unrooted it a while ago). I would REALLY like to update my phone because there's too many bug here on Xperia SP. However, when the phone was still rooted I tried to update and it failed. Now after unroot I was going to update but then the fact that I unlocked the bootloader I am really worried about wiping/bricking the phone through OTA update. Any help pls?
P.S - My phone is barely Unlocked. It is nearly as stock and no custom recovery nor root is installed.
Edit : By the way, is the Xperia SP really got Wi-Fi issues? My iPod got full signal on home's wifi and my SP got barely 1-2..

Ahh yeah gonna try that ASAP. but I just forgot to mention that my primary laptop is now on service center (Got a bit problem there) so I can't really update my SP through that.
I tried updating just now through OTA. After the reboot a popup message appeared :
"Could not install new software version. Try again."
Is that because of my unlocked bootloader? Cos I unrooted my phone completely through SuperSU.
If so how to relock the bootloader??
If you want to relock the bootloader just use FlashTool. In your case because you don't have any custom Firmware on your phone this should be quite easy.
But I always thought when updating with having root access you can update but lose root. Maybe it didn't work (the update) because of a complete diffenent reason. Did you try it a second time?

When I got my laptop back, I'm definitely going to relock the bootloader. But if I do something wrong, will it hard brick or something? (sorry for my parranoidness) and relocking is not much difference from unlocking right?
I tried installing the software update the second time. Unlocked BL, fully unrooted (No Super SU). Still fails gonna try at PCCompanion

If you didn't flash anything on your device you can relock your bootloader without any problems. If you had a custom recovery, kernel or ROM and you relock your bootloader while having this custom recovery, kernel or ROM this should brick your phone (I think this could even be a hard brick) but if everything is stock (like I already said) there shouldn't be any problems with relocking
TA partition contains the working bravia engine (2) which gets lost if you unlock bootloader. If you had made a backup of the TA partition you could restore this and get the bravia engine back

Yes, you'll be able to get the 4.3 update without the TA partition. But, as everyone else here said, make sure you're on a stock ROM, with a locked bootloader.
Locked bootloader ----> You can use PC Companion or Flashtool to update your phone
Unlocked bootloader ------> Flashtool only
Also, don't try to update your phone via OTA while having your bootlader unlocked, because it will brick your device.

Hi,
I wanted to root my phone but I was running Android 4.3 JB with firmware 14.2.A.136 - which, through a certain amount of research, found that is not possible to be rooted unless and until it is downgraded to the previous version.
Accordingly, I took the help of C4E Tech's video on youtube for downgrading my software from 4.3. I followed all the steps shown in the video using flashtool application. The firmware to which i downgraded was C6902_14.1.G.1.534_Generic IN.ftf as I live in India and mine is the 3g version.
However, on completion of this process, I found that my phone booted all right, but it did not detect my Sim card, and instead threw a status on the lock screen saying Invalid sim.
Request you to please help me ASAP as I am stuck with no way out and have tried all ways using flashtool application to fix this issue but in vain. Thanks in advance.
Also, when the flashing process was going on, a warning message was shown in the log, which said, this file is ignored simlock.ta, I dont know whether this has anything to do with what's happened. Please help

This is 100% normal. When you go from 4.3 back to 534, your IMEI shows up as all zeros. Just root 534, install recovery and follow [Nut]'s inductions for flashing his pre-rooted 136 ROM. After you do this your IMEI will be back and your SIM will work fine

Here you go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2628185. A note: in the thread it says you must be on 290 rooted to do this. It isn't really true, you can do this if you are on 534 rooted. Just follow the same instructions. (To get from 534 to 290 rooted you do the same thing as you do from 290 to 136 basically, so you can skip the extra step and just go from 534 directly to 136).
Just wait until you're on the 136 rooted ROM and have your IMEI back and then unlock the bootloader. Just make sure you do a TA backup first!

No, no, and no. All you need is root to install recovery. If you even did any research on the link I sent you would see that the recovery recommended says in huge letters at the top that it is for both locked and unlocked bootloaders.
With a locked bootloader you can flash any ROM with a stock kernel, which the one I linked has.

Hi All
So firstly I should say I only have myself to blame. I'm quite a techy guy so I just assumed i'd be able to root my phone without any issues and pick it up as I go. What i've quickly found out is i'm in way over my head and i'm an absolute noob!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated from those guys out there that actually know what they are doing. I have read many forums but i'm still lost.
My story is as follows:
- I have a Z1 that was locked on stock firmware 4.4
- I read that it would be a good idea to unlock the bootloader so i did this
- I wanted to root my phone but from what I read I could see I would have to downgrade the firmware to 4.2. So this is what i did.
- By doing this I lost my IMEI number, got very worried i'd ruined my phone. I tried many things to restore it, there were a variety of different solutions online, none of them worked. I eventually flashed a 4.3 firmware i found on this forum which restored my IMEI.
- I then read through a few posts of people who had similar issues and advice was given to downgrade again (if i wanted to root) but this time exclude the baseband etc. I did this, but lost my IMEI again! the advice didn't work
- So I then went and updgraded again! to 4.3 to restore my IMEI and network access
- There doesn't seem to be a way to root on 4.3 so my phone isn't rooted, that's ok. But when i try to use my banking apps they don't work! they say my phone is rooted even though it isn't! I have checked with root checker
- Like an idiot, i didn't back up the phone when i first started doing all of this, i didn't really know what i was doing so I am now in a situation where i have the worst of both worlds. They are, i can either 1. downgrade the firmware to 4.2, root my phone but not have a valid IMEI and network access or 2. stay on 4.3, have a valid IMEI and not be rooted but certain apps think i'm rooted so i can't use them.
So all in all i've just messed things up and i'm in way over my head. I would really appreciate some advice
Thanks
Yes you are right.
Also, there is no issue with losing IMEI when downgrading, it happens to everyone, but it comes back when you upgrade.
Also, if you unlock the bootloader there is no need to downgrade, that is a locked bootloader method of rooting
You should root before unlocking the bootloader in order to backup the TA partition, but you are too late now...
Solution
1) Use flashtool to relock the bootloader
2) Use pccompanion to update to latest firmware
3) Unlock the bootloader again with flashtool
4) Flash a custom kernel for stock based ROMs
5) Install SuperSU from the play store.
DONE!

I don't think so, the unlocked bootloader method is very generic and there are hundreds (if not thousands) of guides and probably as many videos.

i'm just looking at the tutorial to relock by bootloader. It says "before u relock bootloader u have to be on pure stock kernel (flash only the kernel.sin using flashtool), else the device WILL NOT BOOT after relock"

Is your bootloader unlocked? Is your phone C6902? Why in the world would you want to flash antiquated 4.2.2, especially if your bootloader is unlocked. The unlocking guide specifically states you have to be at least on 4.3 in order not to lose camera. If your phone is C6902 and you flashed C6903, you have a wrong baseband.
No. You can't use another phone's TA backup, unless you want to brick your phone.

I am not familiar with SOL23, but if your bootloader is locked, there is no permanent damage. You just need to re-flash the original firmware for SOL23. Try to repair it with Sony flashtool...
You have to restore your phone to original, then, if you want to unlock bootloader, do a TA backup, so that you can restore DRM function in case you would want to relock. If you unlock without backing up, you will lose your DRM key forever...
