"Place Not Loaded Properly" message - Moto X Q&A

I just got the Tmobile moto x, shipped with 4.4, kept stock (no root), and keep getting this pop up message randomly. I have enabled and disabled ART and it still happens. While I had ART enabled, assist did not always pick up on my driving, even when connected to bluetooth. If I restarted my phone while driving, it almost instantly recognized it once booted. I'm thinking these events may be related. Any thoughts?

Don't think it has anything to do with ART. My phone has had issues with Assist recognizing driving since the 4.4 update.
I have spoken to a level 2 tech at Moto and the consensus is a software issue, and to wait until 4.4.2 rolls out before spinning our wheels any further looking for the cause.
Wiping the cache usually gets it working again, but only for a while.

Try what's described here...

[Q] [HELP] Screen Flashes, No Launcher, Network Unavailable -- Cause Discovered

I've never seen this issue before, and now I've run into it twice since updating to Kit Kat, rooting, and setting up my VZ Moto X.
Honestly, I don't have much info to share. I had just gotten done setting up my phone. Froze some VZ apps (this might be it, maybe) though nothing crazy..Navigator for one, then rebooted. No problems.
Did some more updating, installed Delayed Lock and GSAM Battery monitor (which is broken in 4.4 for now, I know) and rebooted again. One final time before I planned to do a full backup of all apps using Titanium.
It boots up fine, boot animations (both Moto globe and VZ logo) and then goes black. Now it's sitting on my desk, screen flashing every 15 seconds or so. The time is accurate and updating. Battery icon comes and goes, but it's not dead. Network shows no bars. It's basically just the status bar and the bottom nav icons. Adb isn't recognized, though it does show up under fastboot.
The worst part is that this happened to me last night. I was at the Pats game. Battery was running low and I was trying to record the last play of the game. Battery ran out and the phone shut down. I tried to start it back up and it died on me again. After getting home and charging it to full, it did what I described above.
I really hope it's not time to do a full reset via fastboot as that's what I had to do this morning. Any ideas? I tried clearing cache via fastboot too. No luck. Anyone ever see this before?
******EDIT******
I've discovered what causes this issue, for me at least. It is the combination of "improper" shutdown methods in use by some apps (Titanium Backup, Quick Reboot, SafeStrap, and others I'm sure) and the use of Delayed Lock. Basically, Delayed Lock takes control of certain system files in order to disable the pin/password/pattern lock. If the system shuts down correctly, it hands control back to system. If the phone doesn't hand over control (the phone cuts out without proper notification due to the battery dying or caused by the way an app handles rebooting), the phone hangs up on the next boot. I made a video and uploaded it here.
http://youtu.be/CRtmUAv3PLk
Also of note, rebooting using the Advanced Power Menu option within Gravitybox (the Xposed Framework module) works just fine. All of the options except for "Soft Reboot".

Bad system file, you may want to rsdlite and yes userdata needs to be erased. Moto is finicky, I've never had any other device soft brick on me, never. 3 times now with the moto 2 after flashing a ROM, 1 from restoring a nandroid

Added some more info to the OP about what turned out to be the cause.

[Q] Input Issues and Data Connection Drops

Hey there.
I have a stock Samsung Galaxy S4 Active on the AT&T network. Recently, I've been plagued by a number of troubles.
Bit of background:
For a while, I had the most bizarre issue: the screen thought I was touching it when I wasn't, near the bottom-middle of the screen, and would attempt to open/click on anything in that area. Often turning the screen on and off would help, for a little while. I was reaching my wits' end, because that would obviously be very frustrating to someone who uses their phone frequently throughout the day.
I thought maybe it had been new software I had installed, so I did a factory reset. Problem remained. I factory reset with NO backups. Problem remained. I updated to 4.4.2 via OTA. Problem remained...
And then mysteriously went away on its own.
I've been working in tech for a decade now, mainly in PC and server architecture, so I know better than to look a gift horse in the mouth - but I also know better than to think a problem that "mysteriously" goes away is gone for good. So the first part of my question: does anyone know what could have possibly been causing this?
I'm not super phone-savvy. I've rooted and flashed a few phones in the past couple years, but I'm by no means developer-level.
---------------------
Which brings me to my next problem... around the time that this issue went away, another one cropped up. Randomly, my phone will stop sending/receiving texts/calls, and the data connection will not function. This will continue until I turn on airplane mode and turn it off--at that point I receive all my missed texts, and it works again... sometimes for 5 minutes, sometimes for nearly 2 days. It's really frustrating. I've tried factory resets, I've tried restoring default APNs... but I'm at my wit's end with this. Can anyone help?
Thanks!
I should add that, with my last issue, it still shows a data connection in the notification bar - but there is none, or at least, no activity on it. It doesn't simply act as if it's in airplane mode and go "wah no data network" as soon as I try using it--it just simply hangs for ~30 seconds, then times out. Messages don't get received, webpages don't load, calls don't get placed, etc.

[Q] Problem with Moto Voice

Hello guys, I've acquired my New Moto X last monday and I've been using since then. It a fantastic phone and everything else but I have a problem with the moto voice. I use it like, 5 times a day, works perfect, but after a time, and I have a theory that it's conflicting with other apps installed in the phone, it became too slow. Like, i say my activation phrase, it beeps but nothing shows up, only 10 seconds later a very slow and laggy version of the interface. It also happens when I open it directly from the Moto app. After this, I've done a factory reset on the phone, and the Moto Voice came back to life... BUT, after 3 days it started again... Then I done it again... And guess what in 24 hours the same error. The worst part is that I dont' know if they are going to solve this error, I have already reported it but I don't know... And if I send it back to the store to get a new one I'll probably saty almost a month without a phone... Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions
Did you try clearing cache?
Also, are you on the latest version 6.1.10.1?
Yes to both!
I found the OK google feature responds faster and better. Just as long as you don't want to command other apps.
I'm having the exact same issue. It's very slow. Same issues after factory reset. Also - when it does work, works with Google Now, but none of the MOTOX apps like 'find my phone' etc.
any resolution?
Same thing here
I have had the same issue. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times with no luck. The few times I've managed to get through the entire voice set up it ends up un-checking my launch phrase with in a few uses and moto voice stops working. I keep providing feedback when the voice app fails and hopefully they will figureboit why this is happening. Happy to hear its most likely not my device and an issue with the app.
I have the same problem and i may have located the problem. Try turning off bluetooth completely and see if the problem still exists?

[Q] Moto X turning off suddenly

Hi all, I need help.
It happened a couple of days ago that overnight, with aero mode on, my not rooted xt1053 didn't wake me up since it just turned off sometimes before the alarm. Even if it had never happened before (just one week before it reached the amazing uptime of 650 hours without any reboot), I decided for a factory reset, since it's very important to me that it works as an alarm too. Yesterday, after the factory reset, it turned off while using whatsapp, all on a sudden. Tonight, it happened again, and I missed the alarm again.
Everytime I turn it on, I have the notification that Google Maps stopped working, or alternatively Google Keep. Battery is always at the same level it was before, I mean, it's still charged with at least 50% battery when this happens. Now I tried to uninstall Google Keep to see if there was something wrong with the last update, but it seems strange to me that it may be the cause.
Does anyone has any idea of what to do?
Any help would be really appreciated.
I have the SAME exact problem. Don't know why...

I tried uninstalling most of the apps, but it still happen. I've tried with brazilian soak test, but it still happens.
What should I do to understand the problem? I was thinking about going back to the original rom and try to use it in safe mode...do you think it could help?
With the brazilian lollipop soak test, I do not have any Maps or Keep stopped working once turned back on. Moreover, last times it did happen during the day, while in my hand or on the desk. Twice a day, more or less.
Please, help!
Mine has the same issue. Maps will randomly force close, or just crash back to the home screen. Usually though, Google Maps locks the phone for 30 seconds and then it reboots.
Happens twice a day. It got so bad that I've given up on my Moto X and bought an LG G3. Now I'm sitting on a boot loader unlocked Moto X xt1060 that literally will not last half a day without randomly rebooting.
It does this on any firmware, custom or stock.

I've bought a Z3 Compact too in the meantime, but I still would like to fix the Moto X since is a beautiful phone otherwise. It's a shame this thing of rebooting or randomly turning off, since I need a reliable phone... It was just two weeks ago that I reached 30 days without turning off and with any rebooting. I can't believe there's nothing I can do to fix it, it doesn't seem an hardware issue...
I'm not so sure my issue isn't a hardware problem. I've never dropped it, but its gotten wet a couple times by accident. (Rain, spilling things on my lap, etc...) I'm notoriously horrible with phones though.
Its always worked afterwords, though. And the reboot problem just recently showed up randomly.
I also had an issue making or receiving a call. I could use data, send MMS and SMS, but it would not make or receive a phone call.

Help xt1058 is constantly force closes app after app and other weird stuff

I've been banging my head against the wall with this issue for months and finally have decided to reach out and see if I can get some additional insight.
My wife had upgraded from her 2013 motox about a year and a half ago and it has been just sitting in a drawer until a few months ago. I pulled it out a while back thinking of using it as a music player for the kids, well I booted it up and it will literally force close random apps constantly, to where the moment I click away another pops up, lots of Gapps crashes but everything from alarm clock to youtube, system apps and downloaded apps, if I am fast (and lucky) enough I can navigate through the phone like a snail in molasses... Well, this is just the beginning, in addition to the FC issue, any changes I make to anything on the phone will not stay changed... I have uninstalled just about every downloaded app and disabled just about every system app and they all come back or become enabled again. Even managed to delete a few gigs of photos off it while connected to my pc and... after a reboot, they are back.:crying:
I don't recall using rockmymoto or anything on her phone (Its on 4.4.4), I am still using my moto x and I did all that on mine but never hers... Yet I am unable to reboot to recovery, just fastboot also her phone doesn't load the adb drivers and only shows as a MTP usb device while my MotoX shows as XT1058 and the ABD interface.
I have tried flashing stock firmware via RSD Lite and manually thru Fastboot, I've done 4.4.4 and 5.1.x and each time I have no issue flashing the entirety of the packages but when it reboots its still has all her data and all the force closes... Also tried the in phone factory reset (in regular mode and safe mode) and I can click the "Erase everything" button but it doesn't proceed.
It's driving me freaking insane! When she stopped using it, it was fine, no issues whatsoever and I am incredibly confused at how it got this way while just sitting in a cupboard drawer. I have had over a dozen Android phones, all rooted and flashed, I consider myself a pretty competent user, i've baked my own roms and compiled cm(7) from source and even unbricked a few devices here and there for friends and family but this is literally got me stumped.
Really hoping someone out there sees this, has had a similar issue and maybe has some good new for me.
Thanks in advance
Raff
