You dont like the eyepiercingly bright white icons in KitKat's system status area? You don't like them either in quicksetting and you hate the new pale orange that can be seen there? You want back some good old Android Holo Blue?
Here's the solution:
This Theme Chooser theme brings back some of our beloved Holo Blue to CM11 (should also work for the other major KitKat Custom ROMs as far as they implement Theme Chooser. The specific icons are already included in my theme!).
It's a minimalistic theme. It only themes the system status area and the quicksettings and doesn't disturb the pure AOSP look.
Back to holo blue are:
Signal, WiFi, Bluetooth (when connected), Clock and Battery icon in system status area. Here I use the brightest possible version #39CAFF for better contrast on the transparent status bar and because the icons get reduced in brightness by the system when displayed on a black status bar.
BringBackSomeHoloBlue.apk: Signal, WiFi, Bluetooth and Cast in Quicksettings. Here they turn to standard Holo Blue #33B5E5, when fully connected.
BringBackMoreHoloBlue.apk: Everything that was blue in Quicksettings on 4.3 Jellybean is blue again.
All bright white icons in these areas where reduced in brightness to the standard Jellybean level #CCCCCC.
All icons stay original KitKat. They only got carefully color and alpha channel tuned by me.
The new scheme in quicksettings with outlined dark grey icons when inactive and bright filled icons when active stays untouched.
"Plus" versions also revert the overscroll glow back to JB holo blue color and style.
Contains icon sets for MDPI, HDPI, XHDPI and XXHDPI devices.
Icons for RTL languages (Hebrew, Arabic etc.) are also included.
Knowns issues:
This doesn't install on devices running ART instead of Dalvik. ART doesn't accept modded APKs that are not buillt from source. Any help on this topic will be much appreciated.
Edit: I got a report that it keeps working when you install under Dalvik and then switch back to ART.
Battery and clock color only get changed in newer nighlies of cm11. There is a bug in CM11 regarding the circle battery. The grey (in fact it's translucent white) full ring is actually drawn over the indicator ring segment instead as an underlay. This makes the color of the ring look brighter and less saturated. I already opened an issue on CM11 bugtracker. Hope they fix it soon.
Installation: Download and install the APK. Go to Settings/Themes and activate it - voilà - you get back some Holo Blue.
Tools used for creating this theme:
- Virtuous Ten Studio (includes APKtool)
- ImageMagick (command line image manipulation)
- win-bash (GNU Bash Shell for Windows)
- Greenfish Icon Editor Pro
- WinMerge
- Notepad++
Update 13th Feb 14: Added the new CM11 Quicksettings Volume Control Icons.
Update 28th Feb 14: Added "Plus" versions that also revert the overscroll glow to holo blue JB style
You also don't like the grayish and red look of the deskclock? Check out this mod I made: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51067709 Originally posted in the Nexus 7 2013 forums, but should work on all Devices running Android 4.2 and up.
Changed the the touch highlight color of the dropdowns (notifications and quicksettings) from #AAAAAA to #CCCCCC too.
Update 28 Jan:
Added MDPI and HDPI iconsets to avoid blurring on lower resolution devices. All icons carefully handtuned and not resized from higher resolutions.
Hi,
Couldn´t install it on 25th Nightly on my Sony lt22i with using ART runtime
When using dalvik it is working and I can add the theme ................ could you add direct ART support??
All in all it´s awesome, that you made this App ........... I don´t like the light white KK icons .. terrible
Thank you, and hope you will continue your work on this app
Regards, Dennis
Edit:
It seems like working after I installed in dalvik and after finished installation I switched back to ART and it looks good
This is exactly what I wanted, thank you! I miss the holo blue status bar but could only find themes that overhauled everything to a shade of blue.
Is there any possibility of theming the pulldown bar on the notification drawer to holo blue like in jelly bean?
I like it like it is, coz in the pull down menu the orange is changed in blue.... Thats better than before and better than in jelly bean

ART doesn't accept APKs like this that are not compiled from source, but are made from a precompiled template with apktool.
I tried to sign it with a private key instead of the android test key, but doesn't work either.
Sorry about that. No solution at the moment.

I made a second version called "Bring back more Holo Blue" that reverts everything in the Quicksettings back to blue that was blue in 4.3 Jellybean.
Download on first post.
It doesn't work for me. I can't install it (Nexus 4, ROM Nexus 5 Experience based on CM11, android 4.4.2, dalvik).

Maybe again a problem with signing the APK. I signed the second one with a private key.
I will sign it with Android test keys an post it later today.

Update 13th Feb 14: Added the new CM11 Quicksettings Volume Control Icons.
Download on OP.
Hey ! Thank you for this amazing theme ! But I have a few questions
-Why is there an alert message saying my phone resolution isn't compatible with this theme ? (with Nexus 5)
-Are you planning to do a "Bring back full holo blue" ? In jelly bean, the light when we "overscrolled" (I don't know how to say it) was blue, but now, with Kitkat,, it's white... I know there are many other things, but I can't remember what...
-And, the "3G, H+, etc..." icon next to the signal bars was white in JB, and you make it blue
That's all,

just some feed back.. eveythings is working great
Would be great if you could include lockscren similar to this
and Advanced Launcher.
It would be perfect with those ^^
I modified only colors and some little things, because i want leave it fast like original, but if many people want it in next days i can try to add advanced launcher and different lockscreen (i don't know if i'm able to do this)
Thank you for the rom. I hope you keep it up in the future. The black is great, and the fact that it is not *really* a theme is even better.
I have been looking for something like this for a very long time.
I like it the way it is.. thanks,
TrOjAn
You could always add advanced launcher and lockscreen as seperate updates......
Otherwise, I really like this one! Thanks!
This is great! i like everything except for the H icon, any way i can change that back to the 3G icon?
I'd also suggest keeping this theme lean & simple. aLauncher and different lockscreens should be available as optional modules.
As it is, this theme really rocks right now.

Looks good, using daily.
Liking this as much as the community hero mix theme that hasnt been updated, love the simple black app tray icon.
Should skin the music/picture frame widget. Awesome none the less.
dude, i'm really diggin' this! Thanks for puttin' this out! It really keeps the speed of the cyan roms, but also gives the green style/highlights I really like! Much appreciation to you!
Hey Nice job man.
I really like the speed of Cyanogens mod and you haven't changed that. Colors are sweet.
I also love the speed of this. Just a few things, would love to have 3g back instead of that weird H. Also if you could skin the music player and maybe change the alarm clock icon in the status bar, not that big of a deal though. Thanks.
perfect.
Thank you! this is exactly what iv'e been looking for. A 'hero'ish look without any of the extras the slow the rom down. I just hope you can keep up with the updates.
Looks like what started as something small that you created to tide you over til the community hero mix update has turned into a liked theme by the XDA members . Now you have to keep progressing with it .
Updated 1st post
the google apps werent modified right? cause those are a pain to restore lol. i love your idea! i always thought android was way to bright on the homescreen aspect(and then too dark on the menus lol) i will flash soon
and btw, will this mess with google maps?
and right now i have only a black notification bar mod, do i need to flash the original cm, then this, or can i just flash this?
andddd this wont mess with the eclair/blur animation right?
thanks!
This CWM flashable zip file will change the color theming and animations of Fusion (KH3). I took out the purple in the standard Fusion theme, made some changes, and here you have Fusonic.
Version changes listed in the 2nd post.
This theme was made with Fusion V files. Others in the thread have installed it on Fusion VI with no problem.
I have not tested on any other ROMs so I have no idea what the results will be. Any KH3 ROM (6 toggle pulldown) should work.
By downloading you release me from any and all liability for any shock and awe you may or may not receive before during, or after the flash. plus anything else.

Very nice. I much prefer the blue to the purple. A couple of places you missed though... In the browser, go to Google and click on the Settings link at the bottom. All of the radio buttons on that page are still purple. I believe this is linked to the theme. Also, in Launcher (not TW), the phone icon is still purple.
Overall, great job!

Yep - I left the radio buttons purple - liked it better than green and it resembles the icon for the data toggle in the pulldown. I don't use the regular Launcher, so I didn't do any edits to it.
Glad you like it!

Replaced the stock Launcher you use - it is from Fusion IV and has a SGSII look.
Hmmmm.. Do you know if there's a way to set it up with 7 home screens instead of 5, and is there a way to get rid of the messaging icon on the dock and put the browser there. If not, I think I preferred the one that was in there before.
A suggestion: on the notification pulldown, the text in the "Ongoing" section is black on dark grey background. For example, when a download is going, it's really hard to read. Even worse, I run Lookout on my phone and on that section of the pulldown Lookout shows status. The text for the status is the same grey as the background.

Since I use TW 4 Launcher - I really don't want to spend much time theming the stock one. If you want to use the stock Launcher from Fusion V - just pull Launcher2.apk out of the Fusion V stock revert file and drop it in /system/app on your phone with Root Explorer or something similar.
Also - Take a look at GO Launcher on the Market - I like it better than stock.
Thanks
Thanks, I was about to give up on Fusion V and load another ROM due to the constant inability to read items on the screen. It was very frustrating default theme and your Fusonic makes it a usable phone again.

Hello guys, this is my first attempt to do cm9 theme via theme chooser. As I use Motorola Defy and I kinda like some elements of it's ui graphics I named the theme MotoInspired. It's not a motoblur theme but rather my personal taste. It's blue oriented. Temporary it is for hdpi only. Tested on Moto Defy and Samsung Galaxy S2. Note that I do not have the latest cm9 release and it's possible that there is something that I do not see or something that you do not see. Bugs are possible, my mistakes are also possible. Here is how it looks:
Used icons from Moto Razr, Moto Defy, custom ones, also for the other ui elements that I changed. For the ones that I took few elements for my theme i gave credits (sorry for forgetting your names) and for soudy1994 which theme I used as a base for start and learning things.
This has been said but I'll say again: if you got a theme error when applying hit the Apply anyway. Or if you got a message telling you that the theme is not compiled properly or something like that switch to system theme (if you are using custom one) reboot then switch, or reboot twice.
If you have any bugs/requests/weird things post it and I will see what can I do.
Version 2.0 is for JB only, cause it has themed contacts and mms that don't work on ICS. If anyone wants ICS update I'll need testers. Also I'll need testers with XHDPI phones, cause I don't have one.

Looks fine IMO, I recently found out tickboxes are completely white when there are dark backgrounds because of the white theme accent combined with the white tick. So that's why Sony doesn't make white theme accents.
Nav Bar icon

Here you go > SystemUI.apk, make sure you backup your original SystemUI as this does not only includes nexus nav bar icons, it also includes KitKat flip settings icons if you are using Xperia Flip Settings

For flip settings, you need that SystemUI.apk, and the blue accents have to remain in apps like settings because I don't think white will make it look nice so no plans for it. Sorry =)
Can you make apk only for nav. bar? Thanx.

read this, then to modify theme accent, you need to open /asset/com.sonyericsson.uxp.zip, decompile and go into the decompiled folder open /res/values/colors. Good luck, compare the colors with the stock purple accent by doing the same steps and check the color value, you can use photoshop to double check them. (It's not gonna be easy because if you use my theme as a base, you need to change some color of the switches and ticks.)

If you haven't already, I've got a patched services.jar in my thread, feel free to use. Also regarding conflicts, if you go into the smali folder of the base apk (with the wallpaper and icon) and get through to smali files, you can change the package name there by editing out craftsmanship, and putting what you want, changing the folder names to match. And in android manifest, you can change version number, so when you go to installed apps, it'll show what version is installed.
Example, in my theme folders go se/metallijim/brushed/blue, and that is what is in the smali files. Edit with notepad+
That'll definitely insure no conflicts.

Awesome thanks for the tip, yeah I recompiled the services.jar already, and downloaded yours to compare, for some reason, mine is smaller lol but still works fine since that my original clean services.jar is already smaller than your modded one. And thanks for the versioning!, I didn't know how to do it because when I tried changing it, they said that craftmanship has defined it =/

Good news!
In Android Manifest.xml in the main theme, before recompiling, just change android:versionName=1.0 to whatever version you want, then in settings, when installed it'll show the Version number! :victory:
If you want anymore help, just ask and I'll be glad to.

Screenshot of solid background attached. The main progress bar is just white instead of orange.
Thanks, its better than the stock theme in cm11
Dear @Tsjoklat
I suspect that the CyanogenMod team has kept in boot.img only the scripts for running the boot animation but removed the scripts for playing the boot sound..... Can you just confirm me if this is correct? And if yes, is it possible for the developers to merge the scripts for the boot sound?
BTW: to this topic.... great! I really love dark theme (run in my phones often Slim ROMs therefore) and I would instantly flash this theme on my Tab2, but I have now Android-Andi's unofficial Omni

Inside the ramdisk of the boot.img is a file called init.rc. Inside init.rc is where the bootanimation is triggered.
Code:
service bootanim /system/bin/bootanimation
class main
user graphics
group graphics
disabled
oneshot
Although, I dont see a bootup sound portion in init.rc.

This theme script will also work on Omni. I just checked.
Thank you very much!
I have shortened up my initial post to un-spam your thread.
Cool about mering it to Omni!
Oh.... but.... I see now in the OP that it works only for p31xx, will it not work then for p51xx?

I've never had a chance to test it on a p5100. It wont mess anything up to try.
I'm also posting another version of this dark theme with a blue progress bar to match the color of the mini progress bar in the quick notification panel. The two dark holo themes are identical except one has a default white progress bar and the other has a default blue progress bar.
OK, cool, I will try tomorrow.
I can't mess up too much, I flash anyway about each 2nd day new build on my Tab as I help the development as tester.
And even more often flashing the phones, LOL

I have added a "kitkat orange" version (#fff49155) that changes the color of the progress bar from yellow to the same orange color used in the status bar for the signal meters. Also the background is changed from a gradient to solid dark gray. The background color of the keypress is unchanged.
Edit: changed to dark holo amber theme.

I've added a new theme file called "dark holo amber" with over 125 modified framework resource files. See OP for new screenshots.
Ive updated the Dark Holo Blue theme. All of the resource files have been recolored to better match the original holo blue color (#33b5e5).
fixed flickering on high brightness, also seems to fix inconsistent automatic brightness. best theme without an effect on peformance :good:

Yes. The Tab 2 is mdpi, but it uses hdpi in the framework by default.

Yes, it should work. All of these cm11 based roms should have basically the same framework resources. If it doesn't work or you want to revert back, just install your ROM again and it will be back to the original state. The only file that gets changes by this script is /system/framework/framework-res.apk.
