Clasp issue...NOT HAPPY - Samsung Galaxy Gear

I havent worn this for 30 days yet...I assumed this clasp was stainless steel. However the plating on this monkey metal crap is comming off. Because of the way it sits on my wrist.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see any plating coming off in your pictures...

Actually I like a somewhat worn looking petina, but haven't seen anything like brass, just a few scratches.

You must use yours a lot at work or something man I used mine for work till I got laid off couple weeks ago the gear is a tough watch I have no problem that you do I do see it tho must suck. Don't look bad unless your really anal about small stuff
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk

Anal yes I guess. But its more of the principal I guess.
I wear it everyday yes. Which is only since Christmas day. I work in a office nothing labor intensive...I understand it will have scratches and so on. But this being non stainless means this will continue until the whole thing looks like crap. I mean this is the same sht you get in a 10.00 drugstore watch.

I wonder if there were different clasps made with different materials. I have a few deep scratches on my clasp, and nothing showing through but more SS (maybe not true SS, but it's not plated). I'm around salt water a lot (scuba diver), and this been chrome plated brass (or some other metal?), I would have seen some oxidation.

Yea I have 0 sign of anything just scratches happen ed when working but nothing serious

Forgive me for asking what may seem like a silly question, but did you remove the protective plastic from the clasp when you unboxed it? I only ask because I remember not even being able to tell if there was a protective covering on mine until I really tried to peel it off. I was just thinking that if you missed that, maybe it's just the plastic peeling off. Just a thought.

That clearly looks like corrosive reaction. Either your presperation or something that you regularly apply to your hands, like soaps, lotions or perfumes can amplify the natural corrosive nature of human sweat. I have seen pictures (Google it) where stainless steel diving watches had the whole back of the case eaten away by some peoples, natural, reactivity to metals, particularly when dissimilar metals are in contact with each other.

This is huge. Salt water and dissimilar metals can set up some crazy reactions. Do you wear a bracelet, cufflinks, home arrest bracelet?
Chemicals too. Good luck.

I know exactly how you feel. My gold Seiko started losing all of it's plating on the band and to replace it was $75.00. I have the rose gold gear and I'm waiting to see how long the plating lasts on it. The gear always has the correct time and date so I feel like I'm already ahead. Getting it for half price at Best Buy didn't hurt either.

Battery covers

Hey all,
Does someone know a website where I can buy battery covers for my Ace? And with this I mean customs, nothing special, just a plain blue or red one for example, I'm kind of fed up with the standard black one.

It's the day after, and I already put it on my phone yesterday. With the hair spray it simply feels protected, it made the surface somewhat smoother, and gave my phone a weird scent, but that will fade away. Really happy with it, never thought the result would look this good. I'll upload a pic later, everytime I want to upload one now uploading fails

Here it is, still amazed by what €2,- paint and some hair spray can do ^_^.
It's about three weeks later and the paint still is doing very well. Some paint is lost around the edges because I had to take the cover off a few times and by moving the USB plug cover. The hairspray seems to tend to get loose either, but most is still on. It overall still looks great, except for some details as stated above

you should buy some 1k paint lacquer isntead of hairspray, would last longer!
Hey,
After having a blue back cover I decided I wanted something else. First I cut an Android out of paper and sprayed this gold on the blue base coat, which didn't look that bad, but since it's hard to cut something such small out of paper it wasn't as good as I wanted it to be, so after a week I sprayed the complete back cover gold, which I think looks great!

Back Glass Cracked around speaker

I went out tonight to a movie. I put my phone in my pocket when I left the house, took it out once to put it on vibrate at the start of the movie then took it out of my pocket again when I got home. The phone was the only thing in that pocket, so it's not like it was up against my keys or anything.
The phone was intact when I put it on vibrate so while it was in my pocket at some point during the movie or the ride home is when it got cracked.
It seems that the part of the glass that's cut out for the loud speaker got pushed in enough that the glass around it gave way and shattered. I don't remember bumping it on anything or it being jostled in any way, just a typical movie and drive home...
I have insurance on it through Tmobile but I may try and call LG directly first to see if they will do anything considering I didn't drop it or really abuse it in any way that I can think of...
So let this be a warning to you if you have one, be careful about that part of the phone. Maybe be careful to put it facing screen-side-out in your pocket so the back speaker cut out can't be bumped...
The glass around the speaker grill is entirely shattered with cracks spider webbing from it to all 4 corners of the screen. The cracks going to the top are hard to see in the pictures, but their there.
Anyone have any comments or suggestions about contacting LG, or anything else about it?

How the hell did that happen in a pocket? Hmm
I don't think that the backside of the phone is made from gorilla glass, only the screen. But you still should contact LG, because no way it should blow up like that.

I was babying this phone as much as possible, it was the only thing in that pocket and I made sure not to use it when over cement or anything in case it did fall.
But this happened while it was INSIDE my pocket, I even had to empty some of the glass shards out of my pocket when I noticed what had happened...

Haha, no skinny jeans, and it was in my front left pocket.
There was no stress at all that I can think of. When I took it out of my pocket at home to text someone the back felt rough and I thought something was on it, but when i turned it around to look I saw it all cracked. I was 100% surprised to see that considering how I had babied it all night and I didn't even use it the entire night.
There was no case because none are sold yet. When I bought it the store said they would be getting the cases (bumpers I guess) in stock next week, I was going to call them Monday to see if they had any yet, and I still will but I don't expect them to get any until mid week.

Front pocket, and no sitting on my side, just in a movie theater seat then my car seat.
I wish I could just "not buy" it too, but it happened....
Like I said in my first post, it looks like a typical crack you would get from tempered glass when the stress point is hit, and it looks like around that speaker cut out is a stress point. The thing is, it wasn't hit, bumped, dropped, or anything else like that.
If you were the insurance company or LG I would understand not trusting me, but why do I have to gain by not telling the truth here?
Chances are you can just exchange it under warranty, not insurance.

Nasty scratches, just on day two!

So, I was one of the lucky 2-3 weekers who've just gotten their phones. I opened it last night, and spent a ton of time setting it up and whatnot. Today, after having it in my pocket for about two hours, I met with a horrible sight.
Seems I had some pretty nasty lint in my pocket. That, coupled with skinny jeans, did not make for a happy Nexus 4. I'm going to call into Google/LG soon and see what they have to say about it. Fingers crossed!

God, with each day I look for alternatives to this. Such a shame about the many problems it's having at the moment.
Also, making a new thread for this was a bit unnecessary it could have gone into any of the other 500 "I didn't do anything but my screen is scratched/cracked" threads.

LG/Google isn't going to do anything. It's your fault for having it scratched and damaged, nothing that came from them. That's what they would say.
As far as putting your phone in your pocket, it should be clean and at least have a case to elevate it so the screen never touches the pocket. (in my opinion) I have the screen facing towards the outer part of the pocket.
How the fack did that happen???

Dude I wear skinny jeans and the only time I have scratched my phone was when 1. I feel of a cliff, long story, and only suffered a scratch less than a cm long in my SII, and 2. When my Gnex skid out of my pocket when I was driving and feel onto a bunch of sand and rocks that was below my seat and only had a very small scratch and everyone knows how fragile the Gnex screen is

Cant see any scratches. Had mine for 2 weeks. No case and I put it in my pocket too and so far just 1 very faint scratch on the back and a tiny nick on the bezel. You wont see them unless you are looking for it. I don't plan to buy a case. The phone is just too beautiful to cover up plus I am tired of selling my pristine case protected phones to next man for a quarter of the original price. From now on, If you are buying a used phone from me, the phone will have been properly used

That there is karma for even wearing skinny jeans.
Harden up.
A few screen protectors fill those in. I know xoskins does.

I guess skinny jeans are tougher then keys, a box cutter, coins and a wrench!
I've had the factory screen protectors on, and noticed I have small scratches on the naked portion of the back where the camera is
I left my factory screen protectors on it until I could put zagg extreme protectors on it. I can beat on it with a hammer and no damage. It's good stuff but if you keep your phone naked guess what .....scratches and broken glass. Then everyone complains about it come on guys protect your investment if not get used to looking at scratched scuffed glass. Google shouldn't have to replace phones out of stupidity

Polishing screen...minor scratch

Not sure how much confidence I have in Gorilla Glass but screen is just over a month old and I see two minor scratches. I babied the hell out of this phone, so I'm not even sure where they came from.
I figured I'd try to "buff" one of the scratches out which worked on my previous phone....not so much here. I used Meguires car polish and lightly rubbed at the scratch. It seemed to lessen the intensity of the scratch but now there is this...haze...where I used the product. If I wipe it away, the phone looks fine. After some use, it almost attracts the dirt/grime and you can see where I polished the screen which leads to me to believe there is some sort of coating I polished off.
Any way to fix this? Should I return it and get a new one?
You definitely polished a coating. There's an oleophobic coating that minimizes oil left behind from our fingers, and it actually also helps in preventing scratches. I'm a little confused from your title. Did the scratch occur while polishing, or did you want to say it's scratched and you want to polish it?

Sorry, it was scratched and I wanted to polish it out. The thing is, there is no evidence of anything until it starts collecting dirt. Otherwise, even under direct light, you can't see any difference.
I'll probably take back...my camera has been giving me issues as well. I'm past the 14 day grace period so I'm not sure what my next steps are.

Like the previous poster said it's oleophobic coating that was removed when you applied the polish. You could reapply it on your screen by using any liquid glass product.
Maybe you can try this? http://liquidglassshield.com/
It's not a real oleophobic coating but it should be practically the same.

Well I polish my screen too, screen protector and I get the same effect. Polishes do that, and they do that on your car as well. They're meant to protect metal so applying it to glass will give you a haze and, not attract dirt but the oil allows it to stick and it will show off more.
How do I know this? I used polish on my windshield. Same tthing. Try to wash it off lightly with soap. The other comments may be right but I think it's mainly the polish that did that

Possibly, but the bare glass underneath will still hold oil like crazy since the olephobic layer is gone there. I use the Oakley hydrophobic lens cleaner solution on my screens that don't have a coating and it works quite well. It definitely makes it easier to wipe oils off and fills in very minor scratches. Of course it's not as good as the gorilla glass coating, and the biggest problem is you have to reapply it once every couple weeks if you are using the screen frequently. Maybe the coating recommend earlier in the thread is better?
I guess alternatively you could just go the extra step and wax the screen... Vehicle wax is pretty good at repelling things but the polish does nothing like that by itself. Not common but neither is the situation

Hmm, true haha, don't use armor all wax, it sucks! Nufinish maybe?
Hey hey, why not get a screen protector? I've gotten one from eBay that's flawless 3 weeks after getting the phone. At least that way, you won't have to worry about the screen anymore; you have a new layer.
Plus the scratches will keep coming. At least when you have some on a screen protector, peel the film off and get s nee one - gone forever. What do you think?

Also, about gorilla glass being easy to scratch, its really still like any other glass. Stuff like sand will still scratch it.
My last phone had GG and I found out that my earring (quartz mineral stone) left little scratches on it, nothing else scratched it though. And it lived in my pocket daily for about a year with no case or screen protector. So GG isnt all that bad, it just wont protect against EVERYTHING.

Haha I'll probably buy one, on sale for me here. Yea I can understand, but the key is to keeping it clean all the time. I have an idea actually, first thing would be to have a lint cloth with u always but if you can get your hands on "stoner invisible glass rain repellent" from a store. I heard about it somewhere in Xda and it is AMAZING. use it for ur car too of course haha but put just a dot or 2 on your screen protector, buff it and you'll never see oil and fingerprints again. If u do, it will be after a couple of days perhaps. It's amazing. Buy it for your car but use it for your phone too

Yeah I actually use that stuff and it is awesome! Never used it on anything but my vehicle though... It's mostly acetone but it does leave behind a repellant coating. The acetone will react with some plastics of screen protectors, but you may be on to something here! Honestly there isn't a better glass cleaner out there  maybe even using the Oakey stuff on a screen protector?
This thread has taken a funny turn lol

I ended up scratching mine too. I thought having a flip case would protect my phone but, I constantly clean my phone screen. I'd say about 10-15 times a day. And just once, there must have been a bit of git or sand on my cloth and it left its mark I have a screen protector on it now. Covers it up nicely.. but knowing it's still there annoys the hell out of me lol

Hahaha yes it has! Ebay is your friend, lots of great protectors. Just don't buy zagg, terrible.
Yea you could try it, why not? Not sure how it works, never used it, but as with anything you will apply on a screen, because with a touchscreen you're poking and rubbing, it will wear off in a few days. 2 more mins of your time for 2-3 days of clear screening, works well o think

^^^ This! This is my worst nightmare... I baby the hell out of my phones and, like you, I clean my screen all day long. I just don't stand smudges and finger prints on it so I use my eye-glasses cloth. And every time I use it I closely inspect it so as not to have some sort of debree on it that could damage the screen... I know, its crazy... All this cleaning and inspecting takes up tens of minutes of my day
Pardon if I'm talking about another product but as far as I know RainX is a brand of wiper blades lol! You clean your screen with a wiper blade?

Lol yes.. but they make a spray treatment that I spray onto a rag and wipe it down with. Leaves a nice slick coating that resists finger prints and I hope scratches a little

You can put a screen protector on your watch face? Interesting...

I did.
I cut one and adjusted to the size.

I did as a precaution. Skinomi off amazon for $2. Cant even tell its there, but gives me a little peace of mind. After getting a scratch on my Motoactv without realizing it, id rather play it safe.

Got Mine
I just ordered mine from Amazon. I wear my watch on the inside of my wrist, but have gotten 1 minor scratch, so for $6.00, a little peace of mind. I used to get them for all my phones, but since I keep it in my shirt pocket, it doesn't get as much abuse as my watches do.

Aren't those wet applications? There's a thread that talks about fog buildup in the lens due to moisture: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477441

I just ordered one of these that include body protection http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Skinomi-...t=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&hash=item1e812e366a
, I dont know how durable the watch is yet.
I've been using a screen protector for my gear since the day I got it. Cut out of a large piece that I had for my iPad. What I noticed is that the ones I have seem to have issues with the fact the watch face is slightly curved.
It still works, but might come off after a while. I used a wet application type one as well (best skins ever) and it worked really nicely. You just gotta be careful when the charger cradle is connected to it as there seems to be some pressure exerted and causing the film to bubble upwards sometimes, and eventually causing it to become really ugly.
My thoughts are the best screen protector for the watch would be those sticky type that has some adhesive on it, something like those I used back in my Palm Pilot days.

Thanks for the information. Can you keep us updated after you have fitted the kit and let us know how it goes?
Many thanks.

Can i ask, did the wet application cause any issues with your watch? I saw the full protection version that Skinomi is selling. I think it looks ok, but I also know the watch has issues with moisture.

Just fitted my screen saver. Bought from Amazon. Kwmobile. Very good quality, in fact superb but the watch face is curved so is the crystal so the screen saver sticks up at both ends.
Absolute waste of money. I went and bought three of them as I know from years of experience with these things how much they vary in quality and ease of application. I am now stuck with three screen savers that are no good to man nor beast!
Back to the drawing board on this one.
In terms of mobile phones though if Kwmobile make screen protectors for mobiles I would use them, they just dropped a brick with Gear.
Ho-hum.

No worries can do : ) Has anyone else noticed very very fine scratches on your screen? only visible in the right light and angle, I work in an office and the only thing that has come in contact with my screen is my sleeve, no buttons just material from my business shirt. So i have cut out a screen protector. I noticed the scratches after day 1 of use :S

During the time I used the wet application film on the watch, I did not notice any issue with condensation or problems. The only problem I found was the fact that the charging cradle seem to have really tight tolerances. So the film gets bubbled up every time I charge the phone. Eventually that ruined the film and I reverted back to my home made Spigen. Done properly most people won't know there's something covering the watch. I've got the Spigen covering the front face and wet application film covering all the metal parts
You can see the hair like scratches, is anyone else experiencing the same?
