Unencrypt HTC One? - Sprint HTC One (M7)

My school is implementing new security measures, and they're requiring that all university-owned devices are encrypted (they're using an app called AirWatch). My phone isn't required to be encrypted, but it seemed like a good idea . . . After encrypting, my phone is so slow that it's almost unusable (~30 seconds to open an email, for instance). I uninstalled the app, but I can't figure out how to decrypt.
My phone is rooted and I have Titanium Backup, so I am completely fine with wiping everything from my phone and reinstalling it all. I attempted to do a wipe data/factory reset from ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.3.3, but it failed ("Error mounting /data!" and "Error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!"). I reinstalled the CWM and tried to flash the recovery again but my phone can't seem to find the .zip file - maybe because it's encrypted?
Again, I am okay with losing all data on my phone, I just need to get rid of this encryption!!
I have S-OFF, CWM 6.0.3.3.
Thanks for any advice you can give me!

It sounds like running the RUU may fix your issue
**edit** http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2576995 Just download and run from your PC. it WILL wipe everything.

Thanks. I think I did this once before, but do you know if there's a way to do it on a Mac?
I tried it on an old PC and got the error message "Program too big to fit in memory" when I tried to relock the bootloader. Is my computer too late, or am I doing something wrong?

I am not familiar working in MAC, sorry. In theory you could dual boot windows on your Mac though. On a windows PC you need to install HTC sync first, none of this "PDA net" driver bull **** the tool kits try and tell you works. Then you need the android SDK so you can properly flash the stock recovery and relock your bootloader. Then just run the RUU.
As far as your "program too big" error this makes me wonder the hardware specs on your PC.

Did you encrypt using the stock encryption in the settings of the phone or by using an app?

I used an app called AirWatch that walked me through some process, but I'm not sure exactly how it was encrypted.

Have you tried to format the data partition instead of doing a wipe?

It appears that the encryption can be removed via AirWatch desktop application.
As for how? I have no idea friend.
If it is yours, you could break it, and have it replaced.

From what I was reading, you'll have more control and should be able to login online and decrypt

I contacted someone from my university and they said to use AirWatch's desktop management page. I tried to factory reset from there and nothing happened. Well, I think my phone is moving faster but it's still encrypted (and I still can't actually factory reset it). Very perplexing!

It said the factory reset message had been sent to my phone, and about 15 minutes later my phone restarted - still encrypted. Pretty anticlimactic. Now it no longer appears on the management page.

Yet the phone still shows as encrypted?

There are applications on windows (and MacOS) that will straight up wipe everything on any device. I know CCleaner will. Matter of finding the right program. It also depends on the encryption. But one question, if the app encrypted it, why can't it decrypt it? They didn't give you a key?

[Q] I factory Reset and need some help

I previously rooted successfully based on the thread by TEKHD.
I had to factory reset afterwards and, since I have done that, the playstore fails to really work and download apps. It may download 1 and then stop and they are all just sitting in the queue....I have tried clearing cache/data on the playstore app and even removing my google account and then adding again. Anyone know what may be going on?
Also - does rooting disable system updates? I went to check if there were any updates and it said since I had a modified system it was a nogo - which I assume is fine.
Thanks!

I think all you need to do is to go into twrp recovery and to a factory reset.
After doing that the play store and everything else should work just find.
After the phone reboots and goes to the home screen reboot it one more
time and then see if the play store works properly for you.

yes, in the phone itself, be sure to copy any private stuff from internal
sdcard to external sdcard or to your computer.
The internal factory reset will format your internal sdcard but it will
not touch the external sdcard.
Good luck!

Help, can't load recovery, run playstore, or sign in to CM or google acc't

I have a HTC one, rooted. been running CM nightly's for over a year now and been very happy. 2 weeks ago, the nightly was CM12, and I flashed it. phone locked up shortly after, and would go into a boot loop. I could get into TWRP, tried flashing each of 4 saved recovery points. none worked, kept going into the boot loop. playing around in TWRP, I found, now not sure where a May 2014 CM nightly, and flashed it. it worked, kind of. the phone came back as a new phone, asking me to put my name in for the first time and tried to sign into my google acct, which did not work. So I am running 11-20140504-SNAPSHOT-M6-m7spr. However, if I click on PLAYSTORE, say to get Titanium Backup back on the phone, it quickly opens, then closes. there is a window on the second screen that says I need to sign into my google acct. I tap that, and it quickly flashes and disappears. Most of the apps I had are gone, but the files seem to be intact on the drive. I can boot into the bootloader, but when I select recovery, it appears to enter recovery, I get the blue TWRP initial screen, it goes black, and then repeats, so I can not go into recovery to flash a CM11, or flash anything.
can anybody help me fix my recovery and/or google account and/or playstore to get my recoverty and backup apps back. I feel if I can get into recovery, I can flash a new build and be back in business, maybe
I have copied my whole drive to my computer, so if I have to go back to factory reset and start over, I can do that, I just wanted to save time If I can fix recovery.
thanks in advance for your help. p.s. you probably can tell I am a step and a half above a newbie, so keep that in mind, thanks

Thank you BD619, I want to reflash TWRP, I think that is my best chance to making everything better. I draw your attention to last sentence, a step and an half above a newbie. if I recall, I open a DOS prompt and change directories to the phone, not sure how to figure out what the phone's letter will be, and I type some commands, again, not a clue. could you direct me to where I can relearn this aspect, cyanogen's updater was so easy.......kind of lost touch with the basics.
again, thankyou!
@blairan try this.
1. Boot into bootloader > fastbootusb
2. Open a cmd window from your platform tools folder or the folder I attached below.
3. Rename twrp to twrp.img ( remember windows hides extensions sometimes so just twrp should be fine) and put it in the folder you used to open the cmd window.
4. Type fastboot flash recovery twrp.img and hit enter...this should flash twrp for you.
5. Press power once and it should take you back to hboot where you can scroll down and choose recovery to confirm it flashed.
Tried in my ADB, and also open the file you linked to. booted phone into fastboot usb, double clicked on fastboot.exe, the dos window appears for a half a second, then closes. this is the same behavior as my google acct log in, playstore, and ebay app. I am able to use the phone, text and open email, play music, take and look at pictures. I hope you have some other ideas my friend

BD619, success, kind of. thanks for the CMD app, it opened the window and it stayed open. flashed the latest twrp, and it is now running. I put cm11 20150106 on the phone. I opened twrp. and flashed the nightly. it said flash was successful. I rebooted. nothing looked any different that the may build. I went into settings, and it says I am running that version. but.... I still can not get playstore to open. I tap it, it instantaneously appears, then closes. most of my apps are listed in the apps section of settings, but they are not opening.
should I try to flash the cm12 ? would like to get my apps, calendar back, my work apps. what did I do? what can we do to fix this?
again thanks for your help.

ok, making some headway here. I went back into twrp, and since it is a newer version than what I had, I tried to restore a recovery point from twrp. it seemed to work. so I then flashed a a recent nightly. I am not getting what my phone looked like then, but it seems to think it is new and just starting, because I am now being offered to sign in to my google account. one huge problem, android keyboard stops running, then android keyboard (ASOP) stops running. I can now open playstore, and it stays open, asking me to open an account, or an existing account, which is good, but no input device, which is bad. flashing the most recent build to see if that helps.....
still no keyboard, now the 'back button' stopped working.....
and, should have quit fooling around, bricked again.

ok, got it running again, flashed the latest cm-11 playstore is now working, the back arrow is not, and the android keyboard is also not functioning. I downloaded google keyboard from the playstore. I went into apps and disabled android keyboard and google keyboard is now running fine, and the back arrow now works. I see titanium backup listed in apps in settings, downloaded, and all, but it is not in the apps menu. in fact lots of apps are in settings, but not in the menu area. any ideas, short of wiping the unit to out of the box and re-rooting and all of that?

BD619, I think I am back on track here. something must have gotten corrupted when I tried to flash the cm12 nightly. anyhow, I ended up uninstalling titanium backup and then reinstalling it. works great, and I have been restoring apps from TB, and they all seem to be fine. Will get back to where I was, but with a lot fewer steps, I think. anyhow thank you for your time and encouragement.

[Q] Unable to ADB Backup??

So I just got a Nexus 6 on Verizon and I'm trying to root it. I downloaded NRT and am trying to perform a backup of my apps+data so I don't have to redownload them. Anyway I follow the steps that NRT goes through and get to the "Full Backup" screen on the phone and I can't tap the "Backup My Data" button. It doesn't register the tap; all I can do is hit cancel. I also tried this on 2 different computers, rebooted the phone multiple times, and by running the ADB commands manually; nothing works. I've done this before with my Nexus 4 and never had any issues; is there something I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

unlock your bootloader, then flash twrp recovery, then make a full backup. but, unlocking the bootloader will wipe your phone. but that's OK, because if you selected to have google back up your apps and system data, it will restore everything, but non play store apps.

my disappointment increased. i dont recommend this way of creating backups. you will never now which user or system apps are included and which are missing.
I guess everybody is looking for a way to simply backup ALL, user and system apps, plus their data. This function is not reliable. Some apps work others dont.

Help, Bricked after using Kingroot

The first few times I used Kingroot to achieve temp root, it worked great and then just went back to unrooted after a while. One time after rooting, it was spammed with error messages that the play store and other apps were crashing. I rebooted the phone and it seemed to fix it. The errors were gone and so was root. I tried kingroot again and I had the same problem. I did the same reboot and then deleted the kingroot app. I thought everything was fixed then until I plugged my phone in to charge. It shut down even though it was around 75%. I didnt know what i was doing so I put it in recovery mode and choose factory. I thought this would do a factory reset but now when my phone powers up all my apps and stuff is there. Please advise how to completely rid my device of kingroot. Thanks in advance
Update: When I started in factory mode, there was a testing app called commserver or something like that running. I saw in other forums to reboot to remove that and i did and it worked. Still would like advice on removing kingroot completely.

To remove Kingroot completely, you need to reflash the system partition. You can do this by plugging your phone into a computer, installing the Verizon Upgrade Assistant, and using the "repair your phone" option. Doing this will wipe your phone, so backup any data first.

Thanks, I'm kinda a noob so could you walk through the steps like you were talking to a baby? Like do I put my phone in recovery mode and then download the version thing on the computer? How do you suggest backing up my phone? Sorry for the bother, I'm new to this stuff. Thanks again
Sure:
1. Boot your phone normally. Backup whatever data you want to preserve. Make sure that whatever backups you make are stored in a place that is outside of your phone.
The best way to backup your phone depends on what you want to backup. If you're worried about losing contacts, don't be. I'm pretty sure Google backs those up automatically. You can make sure by going to https://www.google.com/contacts/. If you see contacts there, you're good. If you're worried about losing pictures, plug your phone into a computer and use a file browser to copy the folder called DCIM to your computer. If you want to try backing up your texts, there's an app on the play store called Super Backup that might help. Just make sure that you transfer whatever backup file it makes to a cloud drive or your computer.
2. Plug your phone into a computer running Windows (I'm not sure if it what I'm about to describe works on a Mac or not, but I know that it does not work on Linux). You should get a pop-up that says something like "do you want to install the verizon upgrade assistant?" Install it. If you don't see the pop-up, install this instead: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/88481. This is the Motorola Device Manager, and it's basically the same thing.
3. If you're using the Verizon tool, select "repair device" and follow the instructions. If you're using the Motorola tool, look for something that says "repair phone" or something like that, and follow those instructions.
4. The tool will wipe your phone, along with all of that nasty Kingroot stuff that tries to make modifications to /system despite the fact that /system is write-protected until you unlock with Sunshine (which is why it messed up your phone).
5. If you decide you want it, download Sunshine from here: http://theroot.ninja/download.html.
6. Go into your phone's security settings and allow installation of apps from unknown sources.
7. Click on the Sunshine apk that you downloaded to your phone to install it.
8. Open the Sunshine app and follow the instructions. If, when your phone reboots, you see a bootloader unlocked warning message instead of the black and white Motorola M symbol that usually appears, it was successful. If it was unsuccessful, keep trying. It should get it after a few tries.

'To Start Android, Enter Your Pin', no keyboard

So I have seen a few threads depicting this bug/error/whatever it is, that when starting Android it asks for a PIN, no keyboard shows up at all.
I recently changed my password, and I guess absentmindedly checked yes to asking for a password on boot. However, after the device's first reboot with the new password, I can't enter anything when it asks me to. On the bottom of the screen, there is an 'Emergency Dialer' button, but I cant even press that. Is there any way to fix this? I can decrypt the system through TWRP with the password just fine, so I know it's the right password, I just cant enter anything on the Android side of things. I saw some suggestions being flashing a keyboard (no idea how to do that), reflashing the ROM, even using an OTG cable (which I have, no keyboard though) but I don't want to mess up the device any more by doing any of these if it was somehow to mess with the password or encryption. Any suggestions, or idea as to why this happens? Any help is much appreciated.
Update: I tried to flash a Nandroid backup from before I started having this issue, and its still asking for a PIN.
Update 2: Wiped /system/, flashed ROM and STILL have the pin screen. TWRP still decrypts with the current password, not the one from the Nandroid backup.
I'm currently using Gboard, and this happens very rarely. In my case, it always resolves if I turn off the screen and turn it back on.
If nothing else is working, you could try dirty-flashing your current ROM to restore its stock keyboard.
Dirty-flashing your current ROM will not cause you to lose any data. It will only re-install any stock system apps that you may have deleted.

Did a system wipe and I'm still having the issue.
If you've already wiped your phone, then this probably won't work, but give it a shot anyways:
Use a physical keyboard connected to OTG to unlock your phone, then wipe the app data in all of your keyboard apps.
Edit: Nevermind, missed the fact that you don't have a physical keyboard.

If a physical keyboard is the last option, I'll have to wait until tomorrow to get one I guess (I only have a laptop).
I know there's a way to use adb to input keyboard commands, but although I know I had debugging on it doesnt work on whatever this screen is called.
Thanks for the help though!

Edit: Nevermind, missed the fact that you don't have a physical keyboard.

Would deleting the Swiftkey folder from /system/app or /data/app mess up anything? I'm pretty sure that Swiftkey is the culprit here.
No, uninstalling Swiftkey shouldn't mess up anything; just make sure you have another keyboard app installed.
Swiftkey is just bloatware if you don't plan on using it.
I've had Swiftkey uninstalled using a root explorer since I started using the phone and it hasn't been a problem.

Uninstalled it through file manager, and still no keyboard came up.
This is the most stubborn issue I have ever encountered, quite literally done everything.. except using a physical keyboard but even then, this issue shouldn't have persisted if I've wiped this many times..
You could try flashing a new keyboard through recovery.
I found this generic keyboard app that was packed in a flashable-zip.
Btw, have you already wiped all your user data? If so, you might as well format your /data and /system partitions and start from scratch. This should remove any encryption.

Flashed a brand new rom instead, got keyboard up but it's telling me that my pin is incorrect. Still stuck
Wrong password at boot is a far more common problem. Fix
For me, turning off display and turning it back on popped up a keyboard, when it was an issue. Somehow fixed at one point.
Luckily i recently acquired the oneplus 3t and in one of my actions in preparing the device for daily use i had the same issue after I install a [MOD] zip, the only quick fix that work 4 me was boot in twrp recovery and wipe factory reset system dalvik / art cache, install oneplus 3t firmware
