any chance of a motion recorder? - Samsung Galaxy Gear

It seems like a lot of the tasker apps have more potential to build off gear motions than is currently utilised. Does it seem viable to record gear motions to set as triggers for different apps like tasker and atooma?

When i had the Gear and the Galaxy S4 (using Atooma app on both devices) i had assigned phone actions to watch movement triggers. It was very easy to do and did not require tasker, root or custom ROM. For example shaking the phone vertically enabled/disabled the 4G data connection.

I can do those simple ones with atooma, but its basically just vertical and horizontal shake. The stock wakeup gives the impression more complex motions can be mapped, like I'd like to set it up so that when I scratch my ear my phone fakes a phonecall.

Moto X Active Display not working?

So, I received my Moto X in the mail today. Everything was working as advertised. The Active display and the shake gesture to launch camera.
Then I downloaded LightFlow simply for its beautiful notification settings. I set my custom notifications and everything. Disabling dibrate/tone settings for native apps. Once I did this, everything stopped. No more Active Display. No vibrate/tone for notifications. Even the shake to launch camera function doesn't work. At all. I haven't uninstalled LightFlow yet but I'll try that.
What's going on? Is this a common issue?
Thanks.
Light flow? I don't think the x has a notification LED. Uninstall light flow

If you disabled things with LightFlow it is logical that that would be the reason it stopped working. Curious why you'd use an app to disable notifications and not just turn them off in the apps themselves?
What they said above. Lightflow's accessibility features are likely intercepting the notification before it gets to active display. Uninstalling lightflow should fix it.
Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
No no, I disabled the notifications from other apps so there wouldn't be two notifications for them. Active Display along with the gesture for camera launch works now. But now I can't hear the notifications nor is there a vibrate for the ones I set up through LightFlow. I know there are no LED's (although, the app says there are...?) on the Moto X, I just love LightFlow's customization options for notifications. I love repeating ringtones and custom vibrate etc. Most ofthe time I have my phone in my pocket so sometimes I don't think to take it out to look at the device.
(I'm still used to my Galaxy Nexus)
uninstall light flow. There's a thread on here that shows the Moto X does have a LED behind the ear piece like the Razr HD had, but it isn't wired to work.

So, I'd have to use the stock notification method? I love Active Display and prefer it over a notification LED, but I want custom vibrations and repeating ringtones and all that stuff.
Active Display and Quick Capture
I'm on stock rooted verizon but don't have lightflow and never have. I also have the issue of active display and quick capture occasionally not working until I reboot. It seems fine in safe mode but the only apps of significance I've installed are dolphin browser/jetpack + flash, dead space mobile, juice defender, wifi tether, pandora, adaway, and rom manager. I'm not sure which could be causing the issue, does anyone have an insight?
Additionally, the terrible stock app for selecting backgrounds always zooms in after a reboot yet the third party apps don't place the image the same way (zoomed out and focused on the corner) leaving me no choice but to reset the wallpaper at every boot. Any solutions?

Of those apps you installed I would be most suspect of juice defender causing problems with how the phone normally is sleeping and waking up for active display to work.

I run juice defender literally the entire time my phone is on but I only occasionally get the active display/quick capture failure so I'm not as certain. Regardless I have uninstalled it for the time being as a test. I use Pandora a lot which changes the lock screen so I suspect that I'll disable that next.
Old vs. 2014 Moto X Active Display
I notice that one of the features of the 2014 Moto X Active Display is that one only needs to wave a hand over the device to activate the display. But my 2013 Moto X does that too. So is this really a new feature? Or am I missing something?

Our old one uses the proximity sensor. The new, 4 IR and is more responsive.

The Saga of the Gear and modified Note 3 software

I had my Note 3 long before I picked up my Gear, and as with all things, I made some adjustments to my Note 3 software experience to improve it for my use. This has had some undesirable effects on the Gear and I just want to list out what I have done and what effects it had on my Gear for awareness so those of you who plan to make changes to your Note will know what you're getting into.
I have made the following changes to my Note 3:
Rooted
Frozen all Knox apps/services
Frozen some other misc bloat
Nova Launcher set as default Launcher
S for Switch Voice installed (overrides S Voice with Google Now and gives you a Moto X - like Touchless control)
Dynamic notifications set as default lock screen
Adway blocking ads
Samsung TTS frozen (to fix the Accessibility bug for Pebble)
I usually don't modify my devices too heavily, but I really felt like my Note needed some of this and some features (such as Dynamic Notifications and S for Switch Voice) give me a Moto X type experience that I miss when using the Note. Below are the effects I have noticed this having on my Gear:
No voice feedback for S Voice on Gear (probably due to S for Switch Voice or Samsung TTS being disabled)
Notifications delay - Because of Dynamic Notifications, if my phone is face up out of my pocket, my watch will not receive a notification until the screen turns off. This is because the display is effectively on. This isn't a huge issue because if my phone is face up and I can see it, I'm not going to read the notification on my watch anyway. Most of the time, it's when it's in my pocket that I need the Gear to step in and in those cases, the notifications are instantaneous.
Occasional network errors when using S Voice - May be due to adblock (which I will not give up).
This is all I have really noticed so far. I will update this post if I discover anything else. I hope this helps anyone considering getting a gear and/or making any of these modifications on their Note 3. Happy Gearing.
I thanked your post for showing me that "S for Switch Voice" exists. Now, if we can just get a way to stream Google Now + Audio to the watch, we'd be golden.

[Q] Black screen in the night

Hi Guys,
Is there a way to automatically turn off the screen at night (during a specific time).
Is there any app to do this ? Or tasker/IFTTT/Tockle profile to do the same ?
I would like a swipe-from-the-right switch similar to the mute switch (swipe from top) which puts the watch into airplane mode and deactivates the always on mode, too. (=night mode)
WatchMaker app just got (after the last update) tasker plugin. You can switch different faces based on different parameters. If you build a face with dim mode - off and you will activate-it after midnight (as an example), then you will get exactly what you want.
Any example for this.. I am unable to figure this out
You need to install "tasker" also, in parallel with "watchmaker".'Go to watchmaker app and create the watch face you desire (or download one from the internet - there are plenty to choose from).
Take the watchface of your choice and create a duplicate.
On the duplicate add a BLACK png file on top of everything and activate-it only in dim mode.
Then, set-u tasker to switch on the duplicate face while it's night and to the original face in the rest of the day.
Now, you will basically have the same watchface in all circumstances, but at night, the dim mode will just be black (which, in the amoled world, means, screen off).

you can do the same thing without Tasker:
add a BLACK png file- or even better: a shape with the color black and size of 512x512px - on top of everything and activate-it only in dim mode
then use the following formula in the opacity field:
{dh23} > 18 and 100 or {dh23} < 7 and 100 or 0
red indicates the time in which to apply the filter (in my case between 19:00 and 07:00)

I'm just using "Slumber for Android Wear"
It makes the screen black when you put the watch on his cradle.
No airplane mode though

yes, WatchMaker is great on its own - but I really love the tasker integration!
I'm using the above formula to set a 50% opacity shade during the night hours in order to dim the screen
btw: the same thing should be possible with Facer

i have used tasker to set the black watch face in the night. but 1 problem, watchmaker works only when one of the faces from watchmaker is selected. If i select any of stock watchface, the tasker thing does not work as it is mentioned in watchmaker app description that to change the face one of the watchmaker faces should be selected on the watch..
Of course it's working like that, seriously, what have you expected?
If/when the main wear app will allow changing faces remotely via tasker (or it will offer an API for that) then we will be able to do that.
Anyway, my watch is turning off by itself while it's placed in the charger. It will not turn off immediately but after few minutes.

I haven't tried it myself, but FaceLift could be what you are looking for
it should allow you to switch to watchmaker (which you have to pre-set with a black image) and back to the stock face at certain times

As I understand it, praddz wants the watch to turn off during a certain time frame, not when charging
If you want the watch to turn off immediately when charging and are willing to enable developer options, for me it works to set the keep screen on option to enabled
At night I just deactivate Screen Alway ON to have screen off while charging. So easy that changing face or other workaround no ? Long press button and just click on screen parameter.

Figured I'd chime in that changing faces from the app is confirmed for the Lollipop/Wear 2.0 update rolling out this week. On another note, it would be cool to have the 5.0 notification system integrated into Wear, so things like Quiet Hours, Priority interruptions, etc. Maybe someday.
Am i missing something? My watch automatically turns the screen off when it's on the cradle, after about 10 minutes.

Setting Screen Dim Amount When Inactive?

I would like to use my fire tablet as an alarm panel. Found a few apps that display full screen web pages, that works good. In the development options I turned on "stay awake" so the panel could always be on. After like 30 seconds of no using the screen just barley dims. I would like to dim the screen as much as possible after no use. Anyway to override this amount? I found several apps that can set the dim amount, but just by a schedule, not by inactivity. Or even a web browser app that can control the dimming when not in use?
Thanks a bunch!

Unfortunately, not possible on this device. Minimum brightness level set in kernel (possibly a panel/controller limitation) with no known workarounds (via Xposed). To date this is the only device I own that exhibits this behavior.
Thanks for that info Davey. Maybe I'll see if I can create my own app with a webview that will dim when not touched for a period of time. Since it seems an app can control the dim level. Thanks again.

Ah - so you are not experiencing any dimming vs dissatisfied with the minimum level. Couple thoughts:
- might be able to use an automation tool like Macrodroid or Edge (w/Xposed) to dim the screen on a particular action like last user action or time of day; Tasker (a fan favorite) can do this as well but is overkill for your needs IMO
- blue light filters can emulate deeper dimming levels but you won't realize the associated battery saving as backlight level remains untouched; the again you device is likely plugged in when used as an alarm clock
Unfortunately Macrodroid and Tasker can not listen for inactivity/idle events. Sounds like an Android limitation: http://macrodroid.freeforums.org/inactivity-period-as-trigger-t86.html
Not sure what Edge (w/Xposed) is, not finding that?
Thanks Davey!

Edge is a module for Xposed Framework. You might also consider a different trigger sequence than inactivity/idle, eg: touch, activity atart or time of day. Might need to get a little creative with the thinking

Edge Lighting Notifications - Lost Cause?

Hi all,
I'm starting to give up hope on making the Edge Lighting work as a notification with AOD Always On (and not installing third-party apps).
I just want to go into Samsung's Edge Lighting Menu, select Google's Messages app, or Facebook Messenger, or Instagram, create a color, and have it work when the screen is off and AOD is on. Why is this so difficult?
Am I missing something? Why would Samsung create the Edge Lighting to work ONLY with their Messages app and not a single other app on the Play Store?
Does anyone know of a decent fix? I tried the Glimpse trick, but it only Edge Lights up one color (whatever is chosen for Glimpse), and the little popup at the top of the AOD is a Glimpse Icon, not the real notification (ex. "App Icon: Sender: Message Content"). I think this would work great, and very simply, as it's essentially just forcing a screen wake for selected apps, which is what Edge needs to work, apparently, but it's own popup bubble and Edge color is useless right now.
And I've tried the "Edge Lighting Fix For All Apps" App, but it's still pretty convoluted for setup and actually spells out each app in the notification popup (ex. "Instagram: Sender: Message Content") rather than the IG Icon and then the content. It's the best we've got right now, but it's still sad Samsung can't make this work by now (how many phones with edge screens have there been now?)
Anyone have other workarounds for this? Thanks in advance, it's driving me nuts.:silly:
I know you don't want to use a 3rd party app, but the aodNotify app will do just what you're looking for and it is developed from a user right here on XDA. It's got a low profile so battery life isn't affected much at all. You can get it on the play store. I highly recommend it as it doesn't look like Samsung is gonna do anything.

I've tried that, but it's using a knockoff version of edge light that looks like junk, to be blunt. Sammy's is smoother and I want that to be the Edge Light in use.
Also, no customizing app colors.
I use it with the Edge lighting plus app, it works well for me. Good luck on your quest!
not every app works with edge notif's, matter of fact, it seems that very few do. go to the galaxy store and download "good lock", it allows you to configure the edge notif's and its directly from samsung. Not third party. It also allows you to customize the s**t out of the statusbar, bottom icons etc etc. It gives root access to mods that no other app has access to
Apparently, my Edge Lighting on my S10 works for 2 of the 3 apps I selected: Whatsapp, Samsung Messages work fine, Samsung Email (v6.1.12) does not show Edge Lighting on my S10. I enables all notifications for Samsung Email, but not luck. Pretty annoying. Anyone experiencing this too?
