Is there a way of getting the regular S3 dialer with the 3g video call icon (bottom left) to work on KITKAT or any other ROM for that matter? the stock rom i had didnt have it and neither does ProBAMS KitKat... is it not supported on the SC-03E?
any clues? though id as before i started to flash roms just to see if there is a dialer with the 3g video call icon...
ps, i asked this as a question in another guys thread but i got no answer so i thought id make a new thread
No idea of the SC-03E features but if it is not there with a stock rom then I guess it is not supported for that model.

i just found out this is not the right phone forum for my question as i thought the I9305 has the same specs as mine but i was thinking maybe i could get the dialer.apk or the phone.apk from a S3 that supports it...i just hope its just a software problem... the I9305 does support 3g vieo calling right?

Yes i9305 does support 3g video calling.
What about in contacts. When you select a contact does a video call option show?
---------- Post added at 11:10 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:01 AM ----------
If you do have the option for video call in contacts then you will need to edit a layout in seccontacts to show video call in dialer. Someone may already have done this in the right forum section though

No i doesnt...thats the problem, so maybe contacts, phone and dialer apk has to be flashed at the same time. problem is im not that good to start messing with a rom that way yet hehe. I asked the question in the Jap s3 thread but no replies on it ...so i might try if anyone could give me a hint on how it would be done...and the i9305 is the closest in hardware, its almost identical
You could try seccontacts and secphone apks for touchwiz or phone and contacts apks from an i9305 rom of the same android version and type, doesnt need to be copied into system/app at the same time though. Just have a back up of your originals so you can revert back if doesnt work.

ok ill download a kitkat rom for the i 9305 and try Whats the difference between sec and nonsec apks?
wouldnt i need the dialer apk as well for the video call button?
Sec are samsungs apks so seccontacts, seclauncher etc. Aosp, cm etc usually arr just contacts, phone etc. Dialer is a part of contacts so you only need contacts and phone apks

hmm...im running kitkat and this (below) i9305 dialer doesnt look like it has video call?

Can anybody give me a link to a i9305 kitkat rom that supports 3g video calling (small icon in the bottom left in the dialer and in contacts, in ICS/JB), i cant try it myself as i dont have a i9305. i just want to ""steal" some apks and try something
No go... from what I read and barely understand, there are also limitations on the carrier side of things. There is Hangout (gTalk) work around but you need a US number.
So silly... why not bring this "old" feature back?

I skimmed through the links you posted and as i mentioned before most phones dont support it. But the galaxy range (international) does support it. Dont you think it would be a fairly easy experiment to "steal" the apks from a S3 supporting video call and just try it on a SC-03E? im saying fairly easy for someone with ROM cooking or android dev knowlege Im willing to use my S3 as a testdummy if anyone is willing to tell me what to do and how...My carrier Globe in the Philippines does supports native 3g video calling as i tried it on my older samsung clone calling a samsung galaxy s2
Any success with 3G call button?
Hi,
Where you able to get the 3G call button? Even I am searching for some help with getting the 3G video call button that was earlier available in my SGS3. Really liked that quality compared to skype and hangout video calls (may be due to operator settings).

hey guys,
testing the chinese xt883 stock rom these days.
apart from extensive battery drain i have one big problem:
all my contacts (which are about 500) are displayed in contacts view but when someone calls me the phone won't show the assiocated contact name to the number but only the caller id itself!?
when i go to call list and add the same number again to the contact the next time the person calls me the contact name is correctly associated and displayed.
same problem in text messaging also, but not with every contact?!
you see i don't want to manually edit all my contacts to make the phone know which number belongs to which contact ...
anyone know how to fix this?
any help would be greatly appreciated!

Is this the xt883 ROM on an xt862 for gsm functionality? If so, any reason in particular you chose this ROM? Do you know about flashing the xt883 radio.img to get gsm on the xt862? It works great and doesn't force me to use the Chinese ROM lol.
sure i know about flashing the radio.img only but i also want the other benefits of the xt883, like call firewall, call record, bluetooth transfer, hardware decoding and so on.
what's included in the radio.img? is the cell standby issue fixed when flashing the radio.img only?
thanks!

Do you mean the battery life due to having the cell radio on standby? I've only used the phone on T-Mobile so I don't really have a comparison for that. I've noticed wifi reception is a little weak, so I'm wondering if that has to do with the radio.img. I read that the xt883 is only rated for 802.11 b/g, so that would explain it.
I mainly use stock xt862 ROM because I tried the xt883 ROM and didn't like having to do the work around for Gapps and all the Chinese bloatware included. I didn't know about any exclusive benefits, but I don't think I'd need them now that you mention them.
I really just wanted gsm functionality and the stock ROM with the radio tweak works just fine for that.

Also, if you're interested in seeing what it includes, you can look in the dev section where the thread is and just download the zip to look at the files.

yeah i did that now, thanks man!
well, since no one seems to have a solution for my contact problem i think im gonna get back to stock and see how its gonna go with that.

I've got the same problem.
To solve it I've added the country code to all the contacts.
That worked for me 100%
(Sorry for resuming an old thread)

i also got the same problem , i had restored all contacts and sms via app.
i imported the contacts to sdcard, then via file manager opened the vcf file manually and my contacts were updated again.
then all contacts displayed correctly when calls came or anything.
Hello guys,
I know this question is pretty typical... but I'm very very very sick of this problem. All programs seem to work at the beginning, but then the other party on the phone can't hear my voice. I tried all guides out there, but they're either incompatible with my phone or get this problem to happen, with which the other party can't hear my voice when talking on the phone.
I have Gingerbread 2.3.3, XXJVK, and my phone is rooted. Please guide me to what I can do about it.
Thank you for any efforts.
Market apps are kind of iffy.
If I recall correctly call recording only worked properly in froyo based roms.

Thank you for your reply.
Does this mean that there's no hope for this to work? is there an updated rom version to which I can update, which supports call recording?
you can easily record call with MIUI rom, this is a built-in feature.
I've tried many roms (did not try MIUI) and none of the recorders worked for me, so I just gave up..
why dont you try MIUI? it works and its exactly what you want.
Is it stable and reliable? could you please guide me to the latest stable version of MIUI? I saw many versions there and I'm afraid I would use an old version.
Thanks.
I have installed MIUI v11 from here

What's that mean? did I format my phone for nothing?!
hey TheXDestroyer, if this was urgent you could just pm me. anyways, i dont know y the guy in the link cant record calls. yes, in some countries this is illegal, in others it is legal. in order to record a call, u must conduct a call and activate the function in the call menu (dont really remember the exact name). it is really easy to find this option once youre making that call.
edit
never had any problems with this feature. worked like a charm.

Are you able to tell us what is the latest version of MIUI for I9000 (GB or otherwise) that you were able to successfully use Call Recording?
Thanks!
Try this program for my work in GINGERBREAD XXJW4 2.3.6

Boldbeast Android Call Recorder
Have you tried on I9000 and everything is ok?
But you should read the small letters on web site ( on google play there is no such warning ):
Boldbeast Android Call Recorder is full featured for free for 7 days. 7 days later it's limited to record only 30 seconds everytime. To remove this limit you need to purchase a Register Code to register your phone. Price: 9.99 USD
And for a list of compatible phones just says 2600 phone, list is nowhere.
Boldbeast is not working with my i9000 with CM 10.1
Hi, all
I had to try port Phone call feature.
but it cannot work....
Does Anyone Who had Success Porting Phonecall?
I tried port Phone.apk/Phone.apk (from SGS3) to my gc but it cannot work.
Cuz the Phone.apk/Phone.apk that i tried porting was from SHW-M440S(SGS3 South Korean 3g ver) may be..
Anyway i just know the way you enter the phone!
Just install Launche pro frome playstore
Then you can enter into phone by using Launcher Pro (if you install it, then L.P makes Short cut of Phone and we can access the Dialer)
That is all just i know....now....
So,, Doees anyone who success on Porting Phone call or Try to Port?
(And sorry for my ban ENG...)
As far as I know call electronichs are missing. So the app is not enough.
There is a post here on the forum with link to youtube in which is shown how to modify the electronics. And is not simple...

Could you tell me that link?
And the interesting Thing i found is 'if you put in the Phone.apk/Phone.odex from SGS3
[in fact The Phone.apk/Phone.odex was Phone_KOR.apk/Phone_KOR.odex, cuz the system dump which i used was from SGS3 Korean 3G ver(SHW-M440S Android ver4.1,2) ]
Anyway... 'if you put in the Phone.apk/Phone.odex from SGS3 than GC doesn't show the popup message 'Voice Calling not supported' more,
and you input the number&click the Call button, then the Phone app is seems like freezing status and automatically exit'
So i think it can just fix phone.apk problem but cannot fix the framework related things.
That is all i know from Just Copy Phone.apk/Phone.odex from SGS3 to My GC
Hi,
So I'm having a lot of trouble trying to configure a solution to this problem! When I text my girlfriend who is French, her iPhone can't receive accented characters, it instead replaces them with other characters. I presume this is a problem with the Unicode settings on my phone but can't find much information on this topic anywhere! I have a Samsung galaxy s i9000 international triband, baseband I900XXJVT running cm10.1.3 (android 4.2.2). I live in.new Zealand and I'm with 2degrees as my provider, have recently switched from skinny due to band issues. Any help would be much apprecjated ! Thanks!!
Hi There,
dont know if i can really help.
i'm also on 2degrees, were the messages working correctly on skinny?
have you tried texting the same message to another Iphone? or another phone?
and/or texed from another phone to her Iphone?

Yes, I have tried many different phones. I'm sure its not the network now, so more looking at trying to see how i can change the settings on my phone, but there seems to be nothing? Can it be that the version of ROM i'm running is the problem and I need to change ROM's?

If you have tried different phones i'd say the likelihood of it being a ROM issue drops through the floor.
Unless by complete coincidence all the other phones you used were running the same ROM (or had the exactly the same settings).
Also if everything worked on skinny that would make me lean toward it being a carrier issue.
I did a quick Google and came up with this article from Apple, sounds very similar to what you have.
*** I cant post a link yet
uummm ... go to apple, then support that search "SMS messages may display incorrectly on other devices"
the article should come up at the top of the list.
hope that helps.

no problem,
its the small things that are the biggest the bum.
*oh (light bulb moment) have you tried sending a MMS instead of a text? or using whatsapp or similar?
could be a short term work around.
best of luck.
@nippynz it will work with Hangouts or Gmail, Yahoo etc.
It is BTW Apple's speciality to break purposely the compatibility between their products and Android or PC. Not even JPEG or MP3 file data transfer with Bluetooth will work between Android and iPhone. Apple sucks!

hi is there any rom for our phone that has video calling feature on 3G network?
if not, why?
is it unachievable or what?
@Mr.LOVER try third party apps. There are a lot of features that can be added to a phone, software wise.ROM devs usually try to keep their ROM size low, while maintaining a medium range of features. And most apps which you can easily obtain from playstore are usually excluded from the ROM.
I haven't tried videocalling with my phone yet.But I'm pretty sure you can videocall with this phone, just get an app for it.
Don't think any app can do real 3G video calling as it's heavily RIL dependant. I saw traces of such code in frameworks, but as it's not exposed anywhere I guess LG has abandoned it finally. How could it keep a stable connection if even single RIL standby crashes constantly?

i'm not talkin about video calling over internet like skype. i'm talkin about video calling through network call. and no 3rd party gives that option, if there is any app then please correct me and tell me it's name. i have free video calling on my network, it only charges me normal call rates even if i make a video call. but our phone doesn't have video call feature in dialer or in contacts.
so i was asking if any rom has it or not.

Short answer: Yes, it's not possible. Long answer: There is always a chance that someone takes the challenge and extends the code, but it is probably an enormous work and might not even be possible.
