hi dear Z1 users, in the past i mennaged to connect my phone to my computer using wifi tethering with air droid, i want to achive that in order to avoid opening my usb flap, unfortunatly my wifi signal is too low for effective transfer using the router so i want to directly connect the phone to the computer.
now for some reason in the past weeks i can't get it to work... niether using airdroid own access point or if i create my own and then activate airdroid on tethering...
if anyone else encountered this i'd like to know, or if you know of a better more reliable program that does the same thats also cool.

Before i unlocked and flashed my Nexus one, it was enough to connect my Nexus one via USB to my Laptop to use laptop internet connection.
The first time i did it, Windows installed a bridge network.
Now that i am using a customer ROM (CYA 5.5.0.3), it does not work anymore.
Any idea if it is removed from the custom ROM, or if i need any kind of menu to make it to work?
Thanks in advance
Cedric
any taker?
i cannot be the only one that is interested in this basic function?

Have you tried the Wireless tether application? It does the exact same thing as USB tether, but wirelessly:

He wants to share the PC's connection with the phone, USB tether and Wifi tether are for sharing the phones connection with the PC.
i have same requirement. because 3g signal in my N1 is very unstable. wifi as is. so i have only connect to internet via notebook. This is the biggest problem of my N1.
did anyone ever figure out if this is possible?
I believe it is possible for a laptop to get internet access from a tab though the USB tether, Is it possible for it to be reversed?
Recently I broke the wifi trying to get it into ad-hoc mode, so I can't use the wifi to connect to the internet, marketplace, etc.
Is there a way for me to get a connection from my laptop to the tab?
Im on FROYO 2.2
Thanks,

Do you mean use your laptop as the wifi access point? In that case you will have to replace the default wpa_supplicant file. Search for the thread here....
Not as a wireless access point. I believe normally, you use the USB cable to get the internet on your computer from your Tab Data plan (Correct me if I am wrong)
So, I was wondering if you could use the internet connection from your laptop and forward it to your tab through the USB cable.
I use my tab as a wireless access point several times already-mostly at work because of network restrictions at the office.(Settings/wireless and networks/Tehtering and portable hotspots)
I don't know if you can use USB tethering from laptop to tab-probably not.....
Hi,
You can get a form.of reverse tethering over WiFi by using an application called Connectify (works best on Windows 7). Install Connectify, tell it which connection you want to share, then connect to the created hotbot on the Tab.
Obviously, if your Wifi is properly broken this isn't particularly useful, but Im not aware of any way that the USB interface could be used for tethering in that direction.
Hope this helps...

Yed as agc93 said, connectify shares your pc internet connection through wifi. You need to setup static ip address in the galaxy though.
Good luck

Hi,
I searched to find a way to connect my Note to my laptop's internet, but couldn't find a way.
I have no wifi router and therefor I wonder if there is a way to surf internet in my Note by using laptop's internet connection.
Thanks for any suggestions
Connectify. Or reverse tethering (search for it in Android apps section).
Thank you
After trying so hard to get the first option to work on my PC i had to give up.
Tried second one and downloaded the trial from google play and I am now amaized how fast and good this is working. Now I have full internet access on my Note. As fast as my PC's. But you have to use the cable thou.
There's a new app called Opengarden. I haven't tried it, but it looks promising. It uses bluetooth, I think.
Not same
Opengarden is not supporting reverse tethering it is tethering. It means you can use Opengarden to use your mobile's internet on your pc, not your pc's internet on your mobile like reverse tethering. Two diffrent apps.
Just so i've the picture clear, are you using a 3G Dongle to connect to the net on your laptop.
Edit: Have you tried something like this yet? lifehacker.com/5369381/turn-your-windows-7-pc-into-a-wireless-hotspot

I am using a cable. It is student biulding and I connect the cable to my PC and the internet is there.
The problem is that the galaxy Note does NOT support AD Hock as I tried much and changed some system setings from /system/bin. If there was a solution for NOTE to support Ad Hock it would be amaizing.
hi guys,
i'm on the cm9 rom now and would like to make use of the "reverse tethering" app to leech my fast desktop connection via USB, so that i can sync files faster through dropbox.
to do that, i need to have USB tethering enabled on HP touchpad. would this be possible?
anyone?

If your desktop is connected via Ethernet but has wireless capabilities there is an app for PC's called connectify that can make your PC a wireless hotspot .

What exactly is your setup is your desktop connected by Ethernet to a wireless router, how is the tablet connected.
what is that you are trying to achieve, the more info you can give the easier it will be for me to replicate and hopefully come up with an answer.
regards
my hp touchpad can connect via wifi, but it's a lot slower than a wired connection. i want to try achieving FULL/near full speed download on my hp touchpad, by reverse tethering to the desktop's ethernet connection.
the desktop is connected to the wireless router through a powerline adapter, i.e. wired ethernet and is achieving full speed on its own.
One thing to note is that you'll not notice too big of a speed boost if you are connecting to the internet. The reason being, your ISP has a throughput speed of say 25 MBits a sec down and 5 up (In a hypothetical situation). Your wireless is usually up to 54 (on wireless G), and wired is either 10/100/1000 MBits. However, you are still throttled by your ISP, who runs at 25. So tethering via USB won't net you faster speeds to Dropbox, but it might for local network related things, like streaming from a local PC, transferring files, RDP, etc.
Just a thought to share, hopefully it helps.
Oh, and running through the power line like that is a messy way to do it. Home power is noisy and slows down your network speeds. Just sayin', I hope I don't offend.

bump
This is the thread that keeps coming up in google searches, and since it was never answered, figured its time for a bump.
I´m in a similar situation atm, Ive got no access to data or wifi as Im traveling abroad.
Cyber cafes abound, and id love to use this app as well, but.. i get the same error.
Im surprised as id assumed CM would have all such features builtin. No big that it doesnt, im just not sure how to add it.
Any help?
(and yes, ive tried to get the other method working, but having trouble getting adb to detect the tablet, that method works on my phone, but id prefer a method that fakes 3g, since that other method doesnt work with many apps)
The problem is the to connect anything to the TP USB connector and get it to work needs power injected into the interface (hence the need for Y cables when using an OTG cable). This ends up as so complicated, that most give up and decide to use WiFi tethering. Also, I am not sure anyone has found a way to get the necessary drivers into the kernel.
HY,
I was wondering if there is a possibility to transfer files from computer to phone or the other way around without connecting the usb cable...
I know bluetooth is an option, but I don't have blue on the computer and it's slow...
I tryed airdroid, but the files were to big
So I need another solution...
You can connect with WiFi to your pc.
How big are the files then? I'm using AirDroid to transfer my system images and TB backups which are around 2GB without a problem, actually quicker than via USB, it just requires a fast WLAN. Another option is to switch the SD card between devices.
I'm using MyPhoneExplorer. It can connect to your phone via Bluetooth, USB and WiFi. Best tool ever to me and it's even free.

I'm trying wifidroid, it's free and does the trick...
Guys, why you make thing so complicated? PC Companion works just fine and you need it to "pair" your pc with your phone then it works over wifi.

I'd second this! Was trying many apps from Airdroid to wifidroid, none worked on mine until I stumbled upon this under Xperia connectivity, this worked flawlessly with my laptop
Use this but remember during the pair process that:
It takes a while
Don't let your screen turn off (temp increase it to something high)
Remember the above especially if you're in Stamina mode.
Once it's done though, it works well and the pair is a one time thing.
PC Companion works, I'm not as happy with it as I want to be. If it disconnects for any reason and you didn't tell it to disconnect it seems finicky about connecting back again to any computer, my home and work computers work the same, until you reboot the phone. I miss Samba but haven't rooted yet hoping for a way without unlocking bootloader still.
One work around I've used is to install FTPServer on phone and WinSCP on my computer to connect and transfer files.
