Hi there. I have a Kindle Fire HD 7" running version 11.3.1.0_user_30084920.
I have the device rooted and last time I checked there weren't any available Roms for the device. I saw some people post about a possible version of CyanogenMod coming for it. I also haven't put a recovery because all the versions I see are for the 7.x.x version of the Kindle.
Anyone got any links to posts about Recoveries or Roms for the 11.3.1.0 version of the Fire HD 7"?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there are none. At this point, rooting is pretty much the only thing available for the 2013 HD.

Tis a sad day. Just gotta wait around for a rom i suppose. I hate the stock kindle setup.

My goal is to merge in support for the 2nd gen Kindle Fire into my existing 3.0.31 kernel which is already running JellyBean on the 1st gen device.
I'll update this thread with more information as I get it.
Requirements: the device needs to be rooted and the signature check bypassed in some way to support loading a new kernel and ROMs. There is another thread in this section to discuss that.

Hi, hashcode!
i have two questions:
1:do you think there are many hardware differences between 2nd gen and 1st gen kindle fire? as i known, the cpu upto 1.2GHz, the RAM upto 1GB, that's all.
2:can you make rom and kernel which support both 1st gen and 2nd gen kindle fire?
thanks!
Right now everything i see in the kernel source says the devices are exactly the same with the 2 exceptions you mention.
I do think that Roms can be built to support both devices at once.

Then why can't I install the kindle fire 2 rom on the original? I am not very familiar with Roms but I took an existing ics rom for kindle and switched out the systems and it went through TWRP but it stuck at the bootloader. Any ideas? I just really want the launcher. How can I go about doing this?

locked bootloader on new Fire?

The kindle fire can be bought here in Germany starting tomorrow. I don't know if I really want one if those devices cannot be made compatible with Jelly Bean.
I just rooted my Kindle Fire, and like to install a stock jellybean rom. I looked at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1765288
which says
Download 4.1.2_r1 ROM here [10-10]

PLUS YOU WILL NEED TO FLASH GAPPS AFTER
Jelly Bean Gapps here

However when I go to the links I see newer versions of the ROM.
I assume I should download jb-4.2-kfire-hashcode-12-18.zip, but which Gapps do I need?
Do I want the one for CyanogenMod 10.1.x 4.2.1? I assume so, but I'm a bit nervous to just do it ....
I know this is really a noob questions, but that's what I am!

It all depends on which fire you have..7" or 8.9". The 7" is still in the process of being developed to run CM10, there are devs running it but it is not stable. I believe they have accomplished running CM10 on the KF2 and the 8.9" but if you have the 7" there is no additional ROMS

Hmmm, my fire is a 7" (at least the size of the screen is 7" measured diagonally). I ended up installing the most recent ROM from that link and also the most recent gaaps, and it seemed to work decently.
However I did notice one weird thing (perhaps a coincidence) soon after. All my gmail got marked as read as soon as it arrived. I found there was an entry in my google 2-factor permissions called Android Login V1, noticed by others too. I'd post a link, but as a new member, I'm not permitted to do it. I'm not saying this is anything bad, but it was a weird coincidence. I zapped it, and also my stock Android Login Service from my phone. Now it's ok, but made me a bit nervous.
I'd be interested to hear from other KF 7" owners on which ROM they are using!

So, I think you are on the wrong forum, this is for HD units...
The Kindle Fire 2 has, since a few days, the CyanogenMod 10 ROM running... but, as I said, this forum is for Kindle Fire HD units so I recommend you to open a new thread on the "Kindle Fire 2 Q&A, Help and Troubleshooting" thread.

How many times did you run the bin4ry root script? Sometimes it takes a few tries. Also, if you have TWEP installed, you can just flash the pre-rooted 7.4.3 zip file from the KFHD7" Android Development section.

Okay. This is the link for the 7.4.3 update.zip:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2218475
Also, when you ran the script, which option did you try? The old or the new root method?

I would try running the older root method a few times. It's the old bin4ry method that was used before implementing the new method.

just wondering whether the kindle fire hd 7 will get otg support, i know that most roms run hashcodes kernel and that it doesnt support it. I'm not demanding it or anything, i just want to know if its being considered? or in development? thanks. I want it for usb storage and controllers haha

Once I get my ROM rolled out I might try to compile a kernel with it enabled, as-is I don't have enough storage space available on my Linux partition to download the cm sources and I've messed with the innerds a little bit for my ROM so I'd rather go from hashcode's sources.

First off, there are no modifications available (besides rooting) for the newer Kindle Fire HD. Secondly, you posted in the wrong section. You should have posted under the 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A section.

nope, we haven't been able to crack the bootloader on the 2013 kindle fire hd, no custom roms available for it, sorry.
