Hi there,
First of all, yes, I did stalk these forums and many others exhaustively for days before starting a thread of my own
My GT-i9070 from Hong Kong loses its IMEI when installing CyanogenMod by Team Canjica. I've had this problem with all non-official ROMs i've tried to flash on this phone, even with official ROMs from a different region.
Methods I've tried several times already:
Backing up and restoring efs and modemfs folders with dd
nvbackup and nvrestore
SynergyROM
QPST
Replacing the /system/lib/tee folder in the ROM with my original prior to flashing
Nandroid backup
I followed several guides for every method to the letter, but to no avail. Now I switch back and forth between 2 nandroid backups, the stock Samsung 4.1.2 and CyanogenMod 10.1 and 10.2 for testing. I have efs, modemfs and tee folders backed up as well, so I seem to be in no danger of losing IMEI permanently. I'll admit i'm not too deep into Android yet, but I'm not new to this kind of stuff either, as I used to develop on Maemo and Meego a few years back.
It seems to me that the Hong Kong model GT-i9070 is different from others, as at least some of the above mentioned methods apparently work for most other users. I'm thinking the modem driver might be wrong, would that be it? As I understand so far, Samsung modems are different in some parts of the world.
I have been using these forums for a while, and I'd like to contribute when I get deeper into this. In the meantime, any help is much appreciated.
Hi - i had a very similar problem, but with different ROMs (both Sami and Harsh had the same problem) - i've not tried any CM ROM yet. I've got the same handset as you, HK version and does seem be problem for HK handsets. My problem was resolved by copying back the original tee folder, but i see you have tried that already. I was planning on trying CM10.2 out...i'll let you know if i have the same issue...if you manage to resolve it, please let us know how you did it ! Good luck

Thanks for your response, good to know I'm not the only one having this issue. I'll give the tee folder method yet another try. Which ROM did you solve your problem with?
Ok, this just worked for me:
Instead of replacing the /system/lib/tee folder in the ROM prior to installation, I replaced it post-installation, rebooted, factory reset and wiped dalvik cache.
I am not sure if this will work every time, but I'm making a nandroid backup of this now. I'll try with the 10.1 CM ROM as well, see if it works there as well.
It does. Marking as solved.

yes - post installation, sorry i thought you did it post installation - if you did it pre installation surely it would just get overwritten or am i missing something !? Anyway, glad you got it sorted - i know it was bugging me a lot. I have tried with two different ROMS (Harshjelly and Sami 1.1) and both had the same problem and both sorted out by the tee folder. Something funny about HK handsets for sure !

The Taiwanese have similar issues, I hear. I'm guessing it's carrier related. Thanks for your replies, I have really been banging my head against the desk over this for a long time now
CM 11
Hi everybody.
The "tee file methode" was the only one that really work for me (while installing CM11, but the problems with other romes I tried were the same).
I live in Macau but my phone used the TYG Jelly Bean version of Hong Kong.
However, even without using the ART enviroment, I have had several issues using some of the most important apps: for starters, the nandroid backups done using the online nandroid backup app fail to do the boot and recovery backups...does anybody else have the same problem.
Since the problems reported apparently related to this region, does anybody want to start as I9070 Hong Kong Region specific thread where we can specifie this king of problems?
Thanks to all.

Hey guys,
I'm fairly new to the modding of Android phones (my previous phone was a TYTN II) and I'm having some problems restoring my backups via Clockwork mod (which is a bit of a pain in the ass for me, as I think you understand).
Ive tried to flash my phone and stuff, but I can't download apps from market/start google talk (I know this is related to eachother) when I have a mdc rom installed. This is not really the problem I'm asking a solution for, but the real problem is, that I can't go back to my old rom and stuff. I have rooted my phone, installed CWM, made a backup, but somehow it keeps freezing at the loading screen of the phone whenever I have restored a backup and reboot the phone.
Atm I have resetted my phone with NVFlash, I have not yet innstalled anything but I still have a backup which I'd like to restore. This is my situation:
LG-P990: Android 2.2.2, Baseband 1035.21_20110315 (I updated this with Paul's update), Kernel 2.6.32.9, Build: FRG83G, LGE version: v10b.
Anyone has an idea what I'm doing wrong? Did I miss a step in the process? Please help me out!
I'm no expert, so you should probably wait for one of them, but I had a similar problem and it's important to do a wipe before installing the ROM. (There's two wipe options, run them both)

please check if the DATE in your settings is correct. the rom I had previously installed was set to MAY and this made it impossible to use gtalk and download roms.
yeah sounds silly, but worth checking
ah well since you have reset already. but maybe you get back in the same situation at one time.
Thanks for the quick replies.
@Marco_ch: I already tried the date problem, literally went thru 100 of pages to find out what the issue was with the gtalk, but nothing helped, so I'm guessing I made a mistake with the rooting or something...
I already reset, but this is the third time I've reset, I've already tried flashing my device 3 times and each time I end up not being able download apps.
@Jakkelomme: As far as I know there is only 1 wipe option? Reset factory settings? I always do that before I install a rom yes.
well I had the same problem (gtalk, market) but I gave it another shot with this:
http://romkitchen.org/lg/?s=generator
its running brilliantly on my device. have you tried that one yet?
Tried it a few days ago, when it was anotehr version, might try it again now, thanks. Which options do you suggest (I'm not that much of an expert )
Edit: Though i wish someone had a solution for me not being able to restore via CWM!
oh you dont want suggestions from me - I have that device for a couple of days only and dont even know how to properly make a backup
but I chose the following:
EXT 4
Pauls Kernel
Left out all the LG Stuff as I find it kinda useless and laggy
good luck!

Did everything you asked, installed new version of Romkitchen with the stuff you suggested... Still doesnt download appss. Still stuck at "Starting download...". Help, anyone?
Nevermind guys, I fixed it. Turned out the problem WAS with date & time. My provider made the date 12/05/'11 instead of 12/04/'11. It was why I couldnt download from the market. Thank you all for helping out anyway
Hi. I rooted my sister's Galaxy S i9000, using the same methods I used mine (Odin, same kernels, etc.). Don't remember exactly which.
Problem is, her phone CONSTANTLY force closes everything (messaging, google services, browser, almost EVERY app).
And I mean, that's after wiping data, reinstalling the ROM. It happened on several mods: ICS MR1, MIUI v3, PilotX, CM7/9. Always. After one or two days of usage, she had to wipe everything. Even without restoring faulty apps or something like that, it would only take around 2-3 days for her to need to redo everything.
Now, I'm lost and I can't find what to do. Will changing partitions, kernels, anything like that help? What should I use? Any idea as to why this happens?
Note my phone was rooted and is running exactly the same kernel/software, but this never happens to me. I don't know what to do! Help! She's super pissed at me and she can't get any tech support because we voided the warranty by rooting.
Please I'm lost ):
Thanks in advance for any help!
First of all, I recommend to you that you flash again a clean stock rom (no mods, no custom kernels, just a stock rom). I know it's awful but it's for trying purposes.
If after 2 days it's still happening maybe it's time to install a kernel and format /system, /data and /cache directly. Else try installing CM9 latest nightly and keep it 2 days again
I think it's problem with the installation, but I can't be more helpful than now.
Tell us if problem is solved with this.

I'm not sure reinstalling Stock would work. Also it would give me two problems: I can't (already tried) finding a Stock i9000 ROM & Kernel with Hebrew available as a locale (my sister is 14. She knows ok English but I can't keep her with it on her phone for too long), as pre ICS did not have Hebrew built-in.
Two, I'm in the army and I have little time to be at home, meaning if this doesn't work she'll be forced to use that ROM for about two weeks minimum. I'm really hoping I could partition better or something like that which might be more dependable and a more valid, "trusted" solution..
I will keep this an option though, if I find no other solution before I get home, thanks!
Mmm... Well... There is a few roms with hebrew, I think. Here is one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1189676
You might try to flash it... It's the latest gingerbread released by Samsung with a lot of mods... I couldn't find any stock rom with hebrew support, I apologize.
Let me know if it works or not. Maybe I can still help you...
Hello to all!
First of all thank u xda for beeing so usefull to all android users (like me).
I bought my s plus in April, one week later i´ve sucessfuly rooted (thanks to xda developers ).
Unfortenely this model by samsung isnt popular in my country (Portugal) and this time I could really need your help.
My s plus auto restarts. Sometimes 1x month, 1x week, today por example it restarts 3x in 1 minute. I know when he restarts because i hear the welcome song from samsung.
My question is, is there something I could do to solve this problem?
And the second questions is, what are the benefits of having a new rom. And if it solves problems like this one in particular.
The last question : there´s a app that does "fix permissions". Could this be the source to my smartphone restart??
THANK YOU
First, what ROM do you use? Is it brand one, (i.e you didn't change it since you bought the phone)?
Secod, which apps did you give a superuser permission? For example Invalid or infected app with root access could cause this. Generally rooting your phone means you can easily mess up something (you are administrator, so you can access ALL system files). Try to do a factory reset (for example hard reset with the code *2767*3855# - be advised in will delete EVERYTHING exept your external sdcard and get rid of ROOT) and then install only those apps you trust.
Yes, changing ROM could fix this problem in particular, the same way reinstalling operating system (e.g Windows) can fix a computer if it misbehaves. However this could also be a hardware problem, and in this case flashing ROM won't help and you should take your phone to manufacturer on warranty.
On the other hand it is good to flash custom ROM on i9001 because this phone has a good potential, and custom ROMs will give you a lot of advantages over brand ROM.
Fix permissions is a script which ensures that every App and App data are on their place - matching themselves. If used properly it rather fixes problems than causing them (I used this option a lot), but I am not specialist at this matter.
Hi there.
Thank you so much for the reply!!
The rom of my smartphone its the brand one.
Other specs : Firmware : 2.3.5
Gingerbread.bukp2
I have installed the app superuser + link2sd after I rooted. So i think all the programs have permission. Each time i install a app, it goes to sd card.
I was avoyding a factory reset. I will only do that if there is no other option. And when I do, i will get rid of root and go to the vodafone store with its warranty.
I allready see that there are a lot of roms for the i9001 . I agree with you, there are a lot of pottencial in this phone. What sould i choose? And to install other rom, will it erase all data??
I have the app ROM MANAGER. I never used because i´m afraid not using it right. There is a option that says : "fix permissions".
So..lol....can you give me some advice??
Thank you

Hi there.
So i´ve found several websites that explains how to update to 2.3.6
I have a question, I´m from Portugal and in here there are no oficial updates from samsung, the latest its 2.3.5 .
Can i install a version from other country in Europe? Portuguese language??
Thanks
Don't be afraid o losing data - that's what backups are for. Flashing new ROM means losing all data - system partitions, apps, settings, contacts, call history, sms, and your internal sdcard (/sdcard partition). External sdcard (/emmc partition) is not touched.
Find a "Flashing a ROM" guide on this forum, read read and read it again. Then you will know pretty much everything needed to flash a new ROM.
There is a good site to begin with: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_Plus/GT-I9001

Some other guy claims that its the problem of brand 2.3.3 ROM, so factory reset WON'T solve this problem in my opinion. You have to flash new ROM. What can I suggest?
If you are not afraid o losing warranty (I wasn't) I'd install MoonROM or BroodROM. These are heavily modified custom ROMs, that are very stable, battery friendly, very popular, very customizable, tested many times and considered best. Note that replacing brand ROM voids your warranty, but you can backup your brand ROM with recovery (e.g TWRP - Team Win Recovery Project) and restore it anytime you want (restoring your warranty as well).
If you don't want to lose warranty, it's good to install Stock ROM. It is official ROM released by Samsung, but not ported by your service provider. On this site, there is also list of Stock ROMs. Almost all of them have european languages.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_Plus/GT-I9001#Gingerbread_2.3.6
XXKQ1 is most stable and best Stock ROM so far.
XXKQB or XXKQE are prettier (value pack) but more buggy and less stable
Cheers
Edit: Don't use Kies to flash a new ROM. I soft-bricked my phone with it. Flash via Odin or via Recovery
I haven't backup of my stock rom. Now my USB it is broken. Is it possible to flash a backup stock rom to send my phone in warranty?
Thank u so much for beeing so usefull!
I will try a flashing rom!
I have one last question : do i need to unroot my phone before flashing a new rom ? The costumized roms gives us superuser permissions ? I rooted my phone so i can pass the apps to the sd card and to unistall apps like "sims trial...".
Maybe tomorrow i will try to flash a rom, but first i need to know this
Thanks a lot

Hello, I'm using Semaphore + CM10 JB for few weeks (installed with your support).
However I have a problem. The stability. My phone likes to resets byself, even few times per day. It happens irregularly. What's interesting, sometimes phone resets to the CWM. Sometimes resets and backs to work, sometimes totally offs the phone (and i need to pull out the battery) or freeze on cyanogenmod start screen (but not on normal start, only when resets)
Sometimes it happens when i'm using the phone, sometimes not. He likes to do that when i'm sleeping (for example, goes to the CWM and discharge the battery by whole night on full bright).
And much smaller, but maybe important issue: when the phone starts, shows the message Warning! A problem was detected with your device. Your device IMEI number is invalid. And invalid IMEI number could cause network issues including the inability to call emergency numbers.
Firstly I installed CM10, i had the problems with the network, but after @xsenman's help (reinstall with older ROM before flashing CM10) everything works correctly and i can see IMEI too. I made an EFS backup in that old ROM, should i use that? This message doesn't intrude me, but i'm just thinking if this could be connected with reseting problems. My SGS works really nice, but that one issue is really annoying.
100 views and really no one can help?
Come on, i feel so lonely
I'd recommend flashing a clean GB stock, restoring your IMEI, flashing CM9 twice and then flashing CM10 ROMs (if you want them lol). Always be sure that you wipe your phone after installs.
Sent from my Gameboy Color
thanks for your answer. However, maybe it's not a ROM problem? Maybe some application makes an issue. Is there any log where i can check that?
That IMEI stuff definitely isn't app-caused. I can only repeat my statement above. Don't worry about data, you can backup everything using Titanium Backup and SMS Backup+.
Btw: What ROM are you on?
Best regards
Sent from my Gameboy Color
True, IMEI not, but it's not a real issue for me. Actually, i'm absolutely satisfied of my i9000 (maybe flashlight absence, but it's hardware). Everything works fine, but reseting problem makes me nervous when I use the phone as car dvr or for endomondo ect.
I use Cyanogenmod 10, one of october's nightly versions.
So basically you don't want to change anything but you want us to help you? Sorry, that's not the way a community works.
You didn't understand me. My problem is phone reseting. I want to find the reason of the issue. Because without it, i can install new software and still have the same problem.

Since when has this problem occurred? I doubt an app makes a phone reset itself.
Edit: I looked around your post history and you seem to have posted in the semaphore thread. Maybe something is wrong with the kernel?
Sent from my GT-I9000
Thanks for your answer. It's hard to say because I've flash a ROM and out of hand I installed the applications. It's the worst type of problems, because it doesn't happen instantly or regularly. Actually since i wrote the topic, i didn't see the problem, however i saw two-three times the attention about IMEI, so i think, the phone resets, but not seen.
/// amerkiller: you are using i9000 too, could you recommend me any other ROM? Probably I will need to install a ROM and wait, two-three days and check if the ROM makes any issues.
/// maybe, but how can i check it? It looks like work nice, my question in Semaphore's thread was about the features
I use Remics-JB, you can try it out if you want a Samsung touchwiz feel, and apps from the S3.
Slimbean if you want a minimalist ROM.
Hopefully, the problem will disappear.

Edit: regarding the kernel, you can flash Devil and see if the problem persists.

Ok, so i want to reflash my i9000. So - i have JVU's gingerbread ROM, is that correct stock ROM? Should i make the WIPE here? I'm not sure about restoring IMEI. Should i do that in GB's temporary ROM or (as I think) later in JB's? Of course, earlier I need to backup the efs folder with IMEI so i think i should do that in GB's and restore it in CM10 (or in Slimbean which I want to test). And one more doubt. You said flashing CM9 twice. Why is that? And how can I do that if i'm installing the ROM in CWM?

You can find tutorials about flashing to stock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
Flashing the stock ROM will recover your IMEI number if you currently don't have it and will wipe your personal files. Backup your IMEI while you're on GB and if you lose it, then restore it. Fyi I never lost my IMEI, it's not common. You should flash JB / cm10 twice, ICS/cm9 should be okay after one flash. Remember to wipe if the instructions say so.
When you'll attempt to flash cm10 in recovery, you'll get a warning about partition change. You'll have to chose to flash second time, this time it should work and the phone will reboot into a bootloop. Pull out the battery and enter recovery and flash cm10 again. This time it well install and reboot successfully.

Hi, thanks for your interest
Two days ago I made a re-flash Stock > CWM > CM9 (twice) > CM10
Attention about IMEI doesn't longer appear
I've installed apps. The phone has resets for a one time when I was using some app. It is not a big problem for me if SGS makes that from time to time (maybe some apps are not adapted to the JB very well). However today I used him to record my drive (dailyroads voyager) and when i tried to stop the recording, he doesn't backs to life (just I needed to pull the battery out) and video file was corrupted. But when I was getting back to home it worked correctly. I have no idea why that's happen.

Restarts shouldn't happen that was some unusual circumstance. The video problem is weird, post here if it happens again, lets hope its just bad luck.
Ok, I'll look on it.
I have one other question and maybe you will know.
Call recording. There are two options for use this feature. Simple MIC recording apps and 'two-way call recording' which is much better, however it needs kernel with handle of it. I didn't find anyone for SGS, so I want to use MIC recording. There are many apps in Google Play. However any of them makes 0kB files of record on JB's CM10. When I was using gingerbread it didn't worked too however files were good, but the second side of call didn't hear me.

Hi, I have many problems at a time lol. First of all, I bought this phone 'cause it was so cheap and it works fine for my mom. The problem is, I think I was scammed because the phone allows emergency calls only. I tested with many chips but they don't work, so I guess I'll have to find a solution for that (imei unlocking with z3x maybe?). Also, I don't know if the phone is branded. I think it's not, because it starts with other chips, but the bootscreen is still from the original company (don't know how to change it).
Okay, now that you know the conditions of the phone, I wanna ask if the phone being imei blocked affects on wether I can root it or not, cause I tried many many root files on CWM 5, but nothing happens. Some of them say that the process was completed, but I type "su" in the terminal and it says "not found". Also, I downloaded root checkers and they say the phone's not rooted. The roots I remember are universal_gb_root_v25, v23b, upd_1 and Root_Cooper. I am desperate, please help.
Also, I updated the firmware with Kies (can't remember old firmware), so now I have GB 2.3.6. I don't know if Kies might have screwed it up. I've also noticed that most people have a baseband ending in something like KT8, but mine is different... I remember I had to change the baseband on my Xperia X8 to unlock bootloader, but I know nothing about Samsung phones. Anyway, phone details are:
GT-S5830L
baseband S5830LUBLP1
kernel 2.6.35.7-1190892 [email protected] #1
compile number GINBGERBREAD.UBLP1
android 2.3.6
Thank you very much! I am posting cause I searched but found nothing u_u.
ps: sorry for my bad english.

Hi, I have many problems at a time lol. First of all, I bought this phone 'cause it was so cheap and it works fine for my mom. The problem is, I think I was scammed because the phone allows emergency calls only. Mybe you haven't enough internal memory space to push su files
Try this
Firmwares and help rooting (3th Post)
Okay I'll try these solutions, thank you all very much!
btw, I don't think it's a space issue 'cause I have like 55mb left

55mb internal space (data) is not the same as 55mb system space (rom space)
Oh god, I can't believe it still doesn't work D:
I think it would be good if I started from scratch. I mean, flash a stock firmware or something, like a factory reset. I installed CWM, how can I uninstall it?
What is the best way to do that?
thanks

Install CWM 5 from Recovery Mode. Go to CWM> Wipe data/ factory reset, Wipe cache partitions, Mounts & Storage> Format /system, Advanced> Wipe Dalvik cache, Wipe Battery Stats. Now re-flash the stock rom using odin through Download Mode. You can then try installing root and CWM. Hopefully it works well this time.
CWM 5.0.2.6 fix for Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830

Nothing seems to work u_u. I flashed the stock rom, installed cwm fix, flashed Root_Cooper.zip and nothing happened. Then I flashed the no-junk-apps and also tried with AceGingerRoot, upd_1, universal_gb_root_v25, and Root, but nothing happens. Root and upd_1 give me an error like Status 7, installation aborted (some guy in one of the links Viper sent me had the same error). I type in he terminal "su", and it says access denied.
I don't know what else to do :c

No, that's not what I meant. Before you flash a fresh copy of stock rom, make sure to do a complete wipe. You cannot do that with the stock recovery mode and hence you install CWM. Just follow my instructions in the above post. Once you have wiped of all data, then flash the stock rom back. Always remember Root first then install CWM. If you do it the other way, you will end up getting status 7 error. Do post the result.

Oooh okay, i did everything but rooted after cwm. Ill try that!
It worked! thank you all! (even though it rebooted once, but it hasn't happend again)
Now, what JellyBean ROM would you recommend? I just want a "fast" one. (I know there's no such thing as "best rom" or something, I'm just asking for advice)
Some ROMs say that I have to install CWM 6 or above, should I do that? or just stick with this fixed version?

All CM 10 (JellyBean) roms works quite well with CWM 5, so I suggest you stick with it unless you want to go for CM 11 (KitKat) roms. CWM 6 is mainly meant for CM 11 based roms but there is one CM 11 rom (KitKat for All) that works fine with CWM 5. I haven't tried all CM 10 roms, so I can't help you in that part. But I can provide you the list of all custom roms for Ace. You can try it yourself and be the judge Here is the link,
