I am running the latest factory firmware unrooted with a s4, I am sure when I 1st got the gear it would vibrate and ring on calls and notifications now it looks like one or the other.
vibration is on and set to strong.
on the power off screen I can set it to sound vibrate or mute?
Nope you get ringtones or vibrate not both
Unless you choose to go with null_ rom, then you can use my widget: NotiCounter to achieve the sound and vibrate.
It also have the feature to let you select a custom sound based on what app send the notification.

I am on Null ROM & have NotiCounter & NotaList installed.
If I set the option in the gear to vibrate, then I get no tone at all even though I have one set in the Noticounter widget.
WTH & I missing here??
EDIT: NVM, I got it working

Hmm, that should be about it.
If you go into NotiCounter settings and choose to select a file, when you tap the filename, does a preview play then?
I was thinking if the volumes where set to low on your device?

Well, I thought I had it working.
I did get it to ring/vibrate on an incoming text, but no matter what I tried it refused to ring for an incoming call. I clicked the edit app & added incoming call, then selected the same ring sound I always use. The sound previewed just fine, I clicked save and exited.
I then tried calling my phone from my landline and it vibrated, but no ring tone. I tried redoing everything for over 1/2 hour & finally gave up & just set it back to sound & now it rings just fine again but no vibration.

I belive the problem is that the Gear isn´t handle an incoming call as an actual Notification. If you select a custom sound for a missed call I belive you will recieve a sound?
The sound is based on this:
When screen comes on a check for unread notifications is done, i the last count was 0 and the new one is 1 a sound is played, if last one was 1 and the new is 2 a sound is played and so on..
If the count is decreased no sound is played obiously.
So when an incoming call arrives, I don´t think it acts like an unread notification and becauese of that, no sound...

Nope, that didn't work either.
Don't worry about it, I've given up for now.

Yeah, it might not work as expected with calls and missed calls.
The widget´s initially purpose was just to show the number of unread notifications, the sound function was a later feature and works nicely (atleast on my Gear) with regular notifications.

I don't know if its just my specific phone but I want it to play the sound and vibrate whenever I get some sort of notification. With the stock messaging it gives me that option and I see the option through Handcent but phone only plays sound. When I go into vibrate mode, only calls vibrates. Nothing else.
Any help? Thanks!
Try reinstalling the app
Sent from my phone so excuse the spelling errors
Try this:
With handcent installed navigate to
Android Settings>Sound and Display>Enable Haptic feedback (make sure it's checked)
below it change vibration intensity to your desire. Once this is done you can then disable haptic feedback if you don't like it but the vibration intensity will be saved for handcent.
i was looking for an app that customized some sms and email notifications.. any out there for email? this seems great for sms

handcent settings>notification settings>vibrate settings>always
vibrate and sound works fine for me in handcent
I forgot to mention that I did have Heptic Feedback off, rumor says it saves battery life.

Handcent lets you customize the vibration pattern also.
I have changed my notification ringtone in both the Sound settings and the Personalize settings, and it still plays the default tone when I receive a text message, instead of the ringtone I have changed it to and applied. Any thoughts?
Go into the Messaging app, tap the 3-dot menu button & select Settings. Go into Notifications and under Notification sound, select the tone you want. If Default Notification is selected it uses the phone ringtone for calls. At least that's what mine is showing. I don't use the stock messaging app though so I never noticed which tone would actually play.

I have te same problem.
Notification sound works for Whatsapp but not for SMS.
Any ideas Anyone?
Never mind, did not read Sharksfan his reply properly, this fixed it.
Kind regards, Stefan.
It's hard to understand why there is no LED on the Nokia 8, not necessarily a color one like on my trusty Lenovo P2, even a white one would do the trick for notifications...
Anyway I don't like audio on notifications so I was hoping to have the phone vibrate but that doesn't seem possible, am I missing something ? Thanks for any help !
Just turn Notification/Phone ring Volume to 0 should be vibration only

That would also mute phone rings, which I doubt OP wants.
@webvan You can manually turn of notification sounds for each app by long-pressing an app icon and tap: App Info -> App notifications -> Messages -> Sound -> None.
Thanks, yes I'd still like the phone to ring !
Will try the app by app setting.
ok so I tried that method and you can indeed dig into the notifications and when they are set to a high or above importance you can activate "vibrate" and deactivate "sounds". Thanks !

Seems crazy that 10 years into Android development there is no option to only make your phone vibrate when a notification arrives instead of making a sound !

May I ask what apps you are trying to turn off sound notifications? For Instant Messaging apps like Viber, Signal, Telegram, etc. I can easily turn the sound notification OFF and leave the vibration option ON. Some apps don't have those options simply because they don't send and/or display notifications.
It's strange to hear you can't do that. Try exploring all the options around the Notification Settings in each app.
Oops, had edited my message in the meantime! Yes I found that the trick is to set importance of the notification to high or above to get control of the sound+vibration settings. All good now!
Good Morning,
I just picked up my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 this Sunday and I'm loving it so far. The only problem is I work in a location where I need my ringtone off but the ability to hear my notification and messaging alerts. Kind of like a beeper/pager. Is this something I can do on the Note 9?
Thank you

Yeah that's super easy. Hit volume down, and a volume slider will appear. Then hit that little arrow in the top right of the volume slider. That will expand it to include Ringtone, Media, Notifications, System, and Bixby Voice (if you set it up). You can adjust them individually that way.

When I attempt to mute/vibrate my Ringtone. My Notifications and System options automatically white out so that I cannot change them.
Ultimately I want Ringtone (Phone Calls) on vibrate all the time and my Messages Notifications to play a small chime.

? You're right. Guess I never tried it, just assumed it would work.
Ok, do this: Go to Settings, then Sounds and Vibrations. Click on Ringtone. Then set it to Silent.

Hi!
I just want to know if there is anything I can do to separate notification volume from ringtone volume as I could not find anything on the internet that worked for me.
Try to use tile settings from play store, it has 3 sound modes in tile

I don't think you understood my question. I don't want to switch between different modes, I want to set different volumes for ringtone and notification. I have tried Volume Butler, Precise Volume and other such apps but they decrease the ringtone volume along with the notification volume & vice - versa.

Thanks for the link, but I have already figured out a way of my own. I am using macrodroid(Tasker's free alternative) to increase the volume while the phone is ringing and automatically decrease it after the call ends or I miss the call. ?
????? Thanks for trying to help me. ??????

I am glad you resolved bro :fingers-crossed:
I don't find any solution for this problem! If I use apps to solve the problem they say that it didn't work of course the system set the ringtone and notifications twice. So is there any fix for that. I need a really loud ringtone sound for work outside. But if don't won't a really loud notification. I use C26 One Ui Android 10.
I hope that you can help me out!
Thanks!

Use tasker/automate/macrodroid or something similar to automatically increase volume while the phone is ringing and then decrease it after the call ends.
Can you give me an export file of your Macrodroid Macros. Of course I have problems with the settings.
Or can you tell me your correct settings for each macro.
I hope that this is possible for you!
Thx a lot.....
triggers: phone ringing, call ended, call missed
actions: if trigger fired (phone ringing)
increase ringtone volume to 100%
if trigger fired(call ended or call missed)
change ringtone volume to 30%
constrains: not dnd/vibrate/silent
Hope it helps
Not realy..... :laugh::laugh:
1) Phone ringing
triggers: phone ringing
actions: increase ringtone volume to 100%
condition 1: not in "do not disturb" - allow all
condition 2:sound on
2) Call ends
triggers 1: call ends
triggers 2: call missed
actions: increase ringtone volume to 30%
condition 1: not in "do not disturb" - allow all
condition 2:sound on
3) No sounds - only alarm
triggers 1: not in "do not disturb" - allow all
triggers 2: no sound
actions: increase all volume to 0% and Alarm to 40%
These are my macros. But I dont find the way for "only vibration" for my 3 Option.
And I am not sure if two macros are enough. And what means "allow all"? If this trigger is true - it allow the action?!
I put my macro export in the attachment.
If you have the time I would be happy if you put your export in the attachment of your next post
Thx a lot......
My Macros doesn't work. When call comes in it is under 30% or 30%. And the 3) is really wrong, after I get up today I'm in vibration mode and can't get out. I had to stop the macro 3).
So I hope you are rescue me with a export of your macro.

Try removing "allow all" dnd condition first.
It may work then
I didn't check my mail that's why I didn't know that you were still facing problems.
