Its not necessary to use TWRP or CWM but its recommended because its better than stock recovery.. That's up to you whether you want to use it or not.. If you want to use either TWRP or CWM then download the appropriate CoCore E kernel because it has any one of them (depending on what version you downloaded)... You can refer the kernel's thread for instructions on how to install it..
Alternative you can use CWM with stock kernel too...

~which one of stable rom ?? based Cm7, Cm9 or Cm10 ??
~which rom will give me more free ram and perfomance ??
Any one would help me ??Thanks....
(sorry for my English )
first you will need to be on gingerbread
then you should install cwm recovery from Odin (no unlocking required)
then just choose your favourite rom and flash with cwmr

I search and get a thread that I can start to root and instal cwm on froyo ,is that right?
how about kernel and unlock bootloader ??do you mean the default kernel has support all custom rom ??
no need to root froyo just upgrade to gb with the help of Odin multi downloader
we have recovery.img so no need to change the kernel and in every rom its supported kernel is baked
so I must upgrade to official ginger then rooting and instal cwm ??
yes you will need to be on gingerbread either official or unofficial
and rooting is not required to install cwm recovery
and a big warning is do not use rom manager on this phone to install cwm, mobile will get brick

do you mean no need root to upgrade & mod this device??
yes no root for installing custom rom
as we are not flashing recovery from from manager and Odin do not require root
but if you want to be on stock and want to modify it then you will need root
Thanks for your time....nice to see this forum,God bless you !!!

Bootloader unlocking is the case of HTC phones. In Samsung phone, you don't've to worry about unlocking bootloader

[Q] Do you need a custom kernel to install clockwork mod recovery?

So I have a Samsung i9000 and when I install clockwork mod recovery from the ROM manager app it doesn't let me boot into it and just takes to the stock recovery and when I try to install it from the stock recovery it say "whole file signature not found" and aborts the operation so what do I need to do to install clock work mod recovery? I want this so I can install a custom ROM to my phone.
Fpnd cf root and flash it from odin
To answer your question, yes it does. Custom recoveries rely on custom kernels.
Easiest one for Gingerbread is CF-Root, as compacity suggested. Not too many mods and incredibly quick to apply.

On what ROM you was before?
If it was on 4.4 too, take its kernel, install it with Universal kernel flasher and go to recovery and restore it.
Kernel is in ROMs zip, name of it is boot.img.

I was lazy to give you full answer there.
First on 4.4. our developers repartitioned preload partition to use it as a swap, and on 4.1.2 there were some apks. So if you want to go from 4.4 (and 4.3.) you must repartition it with this guide.
Then you download SlimKat or OmniROM and use its kernel to get TWRP, extract its ZIP and copy kernel to phone (it is boot.img in root of ZIP file). Then install Universal kernel flasher and some root explorer from the Play store and install kernel. When it is done go to recovery (you will have TWRP) and restore your backup.
P.S. You can use CoCore kernel with TWRP too. But the process is the same.

You get a bootloop because CoCore is for Stock ONLY. You can't use CoCore on any other ROM than on Stock based one.
@shut_down
My zip to restore is needed in 4.4 ROMs based on Team Canjica sources built till 14 June, after that date (since we removed /preload as swap partition on 15 June) is no longer needed with new builds this is only an info, most of the users don't know neither on what build they are :silly: better to continue to tell them to flash that zip before restoring that kind of ROMs, nice work.

How To Root GT-I9305

Please xda developers help me how is the procedure too unlock them.Thank you bye
no need to root if you want to install a custom recovery, just flash the preferred recovery and boot into it after flashing. If needed you can flash supersu via recovery to gain root access
Ok thanks for replay first, can you send me some more info about this becouse i dont now how to make.Example what program or what buttons i need to push to make.

this thread should explain everything you need to know. If you want to install a custom recovery, download the .tar-file for CWM here https://mega.nz/#!Y5ERVQyS!Z80pUYlthdxZKXmFCmDbPr0SuqOyGIxXO0wySDNkigY and follow the instruction in the linked thread.
As mentioned after installing the custom recovery don't reboot your phone. Otherwise your custom recovery gets overwritten with stock recovery. You need to boot custom recovery first.
If you have further questions just ask =)
