Can't get SPC/ MSL on Windows Phone 8 HTC 8XT Sprint.
You should be able to call Sprint to get them, just provide the IMEI or whatever they ask for. As long as you *had* an account with them you should be fine. If you can get DM Mode running you could get it yourself.
Dial ##MFG# in the normal dialer menu and go to Diag and flip the DM Mode switch.
Drivers might get installed automatically, but I'm not sure.
not that easy

more often than not, the carriers won't give you the code especially if you don't have an account. and if you had an account, you probably wouldn't need it. also once you do the ##mfg# and select diag, guess what.... it asks for the "user unlock code" which as far as i can tell, is the six digit MSL we are trying to get. so you never get to the dm mode switch.
the problem with some of the methods that i've previously used like dfs or cdma workshop is i can't get windows to recognize the phone to prompt for a diag driver or in other words it won't show up as needing the diag driver or as a port, so i can't connect it to dfs, cdma workshop etc. i can get into the bootloader screen by holding the buttons during power on and windows then looks for a "usb bldr" driver and installs the old windows mobile interface, which i thought was great at first thinking i'd set the port manually but i couldn't get the device to show up there either.
can you or anybody offer any further advice, i know this isn't a new subject to say the least and i appreciate all the good info i've gotten from you guys over the years, i always type xda at the end of my google searches because there are so many great developers here. i have an 8xt bought from an auction, its awesome, i am a page plus dealer and i activated it through the dealer portal, it went through fine, but without being able to at least change the prl, or manually program it, i can't use it! help!

I don't remember where I found the unlock code, but I think its in my 8XT thread.
HTC has always had their own drivers for their diagnostic modes. If you still have an 8XT with 8.0 GDR2 or 3 try installing the webserver app and using the native toast launcher on one of their apps. I would work on one of those again, but its been forever since I had mine. My only issue is that the Qualcomm Diag mode (not the power+volup) seems to be in READ_ONLY mode. I'd try a few things first, but I'd be nice if someone could donate one of their old ones, so I can work on it again.
I'd recommend the ATIV S Neo if you want to attempt to reprogram stuff, its just much easier and you can do it on the phone too.

So, I have one of the HTC 8x's and Im wondering if there is a way to check if it's carrier unlocked without actually inserting a different sim.
I tried getting to the diagnostic app using ##634# but that doesn't seem to work.
Any ideas??
Thanks!
On HTC devices (at least on WP7) the Diagnostics Menu opens using ##3282#.
The ##634# code works on Samsung.

Yeah I had tried that and it came up with a message saying "USSD" and then my phone number. So not sure what else there is.
Thanks though!
Both of these codes work on my Lumia 920, displaying a lifetime counter in the first case (##634# ) and a list of network settings in the second (##3282#)
That's weird....My 8X (o2 UK) behaves differently.
When I try ##3282# nothing happens.
When I try ##634# I get an HTC Diagnostic app, which allows me to test Vibrator, Flashlight and LED, but nothing else.
EDIT:
##3424# i.e. ##DIAG# also brings up the same menu as ##634#. None of the other codes and work for me. (##3282# = ##DATA# btw)
Have just got Hands on HTC One
While going to Diag Mode ##3424# it ask for MSL
So only way now to get MSL is via Sprint or Adb
Tried ADB with Command "getprop ril.MSL" in adb shell but not able to get SPC
Seems Root is Required.
If somebody has got a Better method to get the SPC from Sprint HTC One
Update
Rooted the Phone
Used MSL Reader from MArket Still its not working
Have Attached the LOG Cat from MSL Reader
if its of any help
I had a chat rep give me the MSL during activation. I asked once, next reply was with the MSL. Usually I have to argue with them or they give you all the steps and call it security code they won't say MSL. It's hit or miss, if I get a stupid rep just hang up & call back.

Little known fact. I am unsure if they will let you do it. But anyplace that sells sprint can get you your MSL (doesn't need to be Corporate store) all they need to do is this. If they're using the SNAP sprint system at the end of the activation process where they print out Discount Coupon. There is an option for manual programming. Have them click that, then there is another button for detailed instructions. (takes 2 seconds) and your MSL is there.
So for example (I use Radioshack a lot because work there) if you buy the phone at Radioshack just tell the associate before you finish with the upgrade of the sprint site to do that. Or if you already upgraded the device. If you have a device to swap to. Just do a service swap back and forth. And same thing. Click the manual programming button. As far as I know. This only works with SNAP

Are you sure you did ##DIAG# in the dialer? I did that and got it just fine. ##DATA# on the other hand launched the dialog with View Mode or Edit Mode (which needed the MSL).
I get this attached screenshot as soon as I enter ##DIAG#.
When u Press Select "On" it ask for MSL
Till than no drivers are getting installed
If u try entering Wrong MSL 2times Phone gets Rebooted

the easiest way to get MSL is to contact support and tell them you have no network or limited network.
at least for sprint anyways, its always worked for me

I did this... (not connected to a sprint account and got my MSL). I'm sure there's an easier way... but i pulled the EPST apk files from the sense 5 port for EVO LTE (DMCommandService.apk, EPST.apk, FieldTrial.apk, HtcOMADM_SPCS.apk) replaced them before flashing a rom... BOOM! HTC diag runs without asking for the MSL.
Installed diag drivers (kinda tricky) then used cdmaDevTerm to give me my MSL... (calling sprint is much easier)
By the way, the open sesame door method, QPST and DFS all works for the HTC One to backup your IMEI

This is incorrect. The code printed on that sheet is a one time lock code and will be useless after it is used to program the phone.
It is not the master lock code.

This is really quite simple.
This HOW TO will show you how to keep your Sprint HTC One from dropping data and or signal while on GSM.
This solves the dropping of GSM when going from tower to tower.
There is a full video how to on our Youtube channel TK Tech News,
You need
CDMA WS, Or DFS CDMA Tool.
Make sure to put the HTC ONE in CDMA Mode
Dial ##3424#
Connect to your computer,
Open CDMA WS
Connect to port that has HTC DIAG 9K
Connect
Go to security, Select HTC Method and read SPC
Send SPC
Write SPC 000000
Go to main tab
Toggle over until you get to the tab that offers RUIM, RUIM Available, NV-RUIM, Or NV ONLY
Select RUIM Only.
Click write
Reboot and you are good to go.
This solves the connection issues, I have driven up and down the east cost and not lost service with this method, The video may explain it better.
Being I am new on XDA as a "Poster" I cant post the video but you can easily find it on the channel.
Thanks.
Also working on a GPE port for the Sprint Version
Looking forward to lots of development, Will be posting ROMS and other mods as soon as I am able to do so.
If a mod wants to allow me to be able to do this earlier that would be great.

Free way of doing it!
For those of you like me that do not want to pay any money do the following.
1. Install QPST Download
2. Start -> Programs -> QPST -> QPST Configuration
3. Click Add New Port... and select the correct Port (HTC Diagnostic Interface - 9K)
4. On QPST Configruation windows click Start Clients->Services Programming and click OK
5. Find Tab 1xHDR Security
6. Change to R-UIM
7. Click Wirte to Phone and waiting for cell phone reset. Will ask you for your SPC code.
Now to get the SPC code I used CDMADevTerm. QPST can prolly do it but I have no clue how.
1. Phone Tab -> Setup -> Scan Ports
2. Select HTC Diagnostic Interface - 9K
3. Click Read SPC and you have your code. You can change it here as well
All credit goes to TK Tech News, I only found a free way of doing the same thing.

For sure.
So it seems this was not the total fix for me. It works awesome until the phone attempts to switch to another tower and the service just drops out completely and doesn't want to re-register automatically. Any other ideas? Browsing around with QPST and see some interesting things, but know you can get into trouble while writing the wrong thing.

Sure have. I've all but given up on this idea. I've tried every suggestion that has been in any thread about this and nothing has helped. I've read every post and thread that has anything to deal with this unlock. I've tried 4.1.2 / 4.3 / 4.4.2 roms both Sprint Sense UI and CM based. I've tried international roms with Sprint support. I've tried cobbling together my own rom with bits and pieces of this and that. Tried different radios on the different configurations. Played around with settings in QPST (scary). Used apps and settings to force roaming only. Tried working T-mobile and AIO Wireless SIM cards. There just really isn't anything to be done at this point, I feel. It works great until the phone switches to another tower. I can hot reboot and service will come back and hot reboot again and data will come back too. Unfortunately that isn't good enough. But it is what it is and just another reason I am glad I don't have any reason to get a Sprint phone or service for myself.
Are there actual confirmations of service NOT dropping out for someone in the US? If so, what is your set up?
Hmm, I take it the diag code changes if I'm on a non-sense ROM? ##DIAG# didn't work for me.

Hi All,
I got the ATIV SE and really like it. Problem is that even though it's unlocked SIM and I have also developer unlocked it, I cannot get internet sharing to turn on. I bought from Verizon, but am using it on T-Mobile. Error is:
To enable tethering on this device, go to Verizon.com or dial *611
What is the best way to get this phone to forget about Verizon? Is there a way to just factory reset to vanilla windows?
Thanks for help

I'm not sure but could it be possible that your carrier lock Tethering?
Have you tried an oter csc?
Or can you flash an other ROM`?
Thanks for the reply. No, carrier does not lock. The problem is with the phone being set up to think it's a Verizon phone. Is there a way to flash another rom here? or something like root?
We can interop-unlock Samsung WP8 phones, although if it's fully up-to-date it may need to be downgraded first. I don't know if that will help you, though. I can't tether (well, not over WiFi; wired works) my non-T-Mobile phone on TMo either.
There won't be another CSC to flash... Unless you can get @-W_O_L_F- to help you out with a custom rom....

Sorry for the slow reply. I didn't get notified by this site that there was a reply to my post.
Can you please help me out with how to do this with ATIV SE?
Interop-unlock instructions are in my signature. I don't know if they'll help you though, and if you're on GDR3 (probable) then you'll need to downgrade first (or use a custom ROM) and for that you need to read @-W_O_L_F-'s threads. I don't know if there's a base ROM (non-Verizon) for the SE; if there is you can probably flash that but we may not have one.
If you wanted to know how to do wired tethering, just search for "tether ATIV S". Seriously, #1 rule of this forum is literally "search before posting"

Seriously, thank you for the reply. I did lots of searching, but since ATIV S and SE are quite different, I wasn't sure if anything related to S would work.
I'd love to flash an SE base ROM on this, but I haven't been able to find that there is one.
The MS Store in Bellevue said that they would be getting a Samsung base ROM in a couple months that they would flash onto my device for me. But I'd like to do this sooner.
Should I reach out and read wolf's threads to see about using a custom ROM here then?
Thanks!

Try a variation on the following method:

Worked for the HTC 8x, should work for Samsung as long as you can put in the right model ID. (hint: it's not "dm=Windows%20Phone%208X%20by%20HTC" for your Samsung.) Good luck!

Worked for the HTC 8x, should work for Samsung as long as you can put in the right model ID. (hint: it's not "dm=Windows%20Phone%208X%20by%20HTC" for your Samsung.) Good luck!

Thanks for that! The process worked and got me almost there.
Ok! Super progress here. This is what you need to add for the Samsung ATIV SE
// Replace oemId=Samsung with oemId=NOKIA
oSession.PathAndQuery = oSession.PathAndQuery.Replace ("oemId=SAMSUNG", "oemId=NOKIA");
// Replace the device model with the dm for the Nokia 925 (AT&T / North America):
oSession.PathAndQuery = oSession.PathAndQuery.Replace ("dm=ATIV%20SE", "dm=RM-893_nam_att_206");
Note the CAPS for the oemId.
I installed Access Point (along with some other cool Nokia Apps). I went to enable Internet Sharing, but now I have a new message:
Add Internet sharing?
"Your current data plan doesn't include Internet Sharing (it does). Do you want to open an app from your mobile operator to add it? Internet sharing use your cellular data and may incur additional charges."
Any ideas where to go from here? Clicking Yes does nothing. So does clicking no.

At this point, I'd call T-Mobile and see if they can double-check everything on their end. They might need to reprovision your data services. I had a similar issue with my old iPhone when I added the 500MB tethering option.
They do have an "access point" app (I forget what it is called) that comes pre-installed on their phones. (Literally useless, it is so when you click Yes on the "learn more" button" it tells you to call customer care to enable internet sharing. I always delete it off of mine when I restore from stock).
That is another fun trick: to get rid of apps you can't uninstall, set the date and time on your phone to later than 2200 and click on the app...it will tell you that it expired and give you the option to uninstall it!
Let me know how you make out!
fruehling,
Did you ever get this solved? I'm planning on getting this phone too, but for use on At&t. I hope I don't run into the same problem. But I do have some questions to ask you, I hope you don't mind answering....1) Does the voice call works as any unlocked phone? .... 2) Can T-Mobile detect that you're using an ATIV SE? Or does T-Mobile says you have an Unknown device when you check your online account? Thanks!

If you are in Dev Preview.. try the foreign sim trick
if not just install a new keyboard.
I followed the procedure outlined, and using SysAppPusher, it attemped to install "access point" under Microsoft mobile (not Lumia), and from the store, the status changed to "owned". But it didn't actually install it.
I turned off the proxy (as it was recommended) and it still didn't install it. Any idea as to what could be wrong?
I'm on the latest 8.1 release.
Hello all.
I got myself an used SM-N950U originally from Verizon and sold as unlocked. Now my problem is I cannot connect to/use my sim with it. Originally I thought it was locked since there's an app that says "not a Verizon sim", but then I realized this app is an userspace app so to say, part of the Verizon bloatware and doesn't mean the phone. I know specially since with that phone I also got an S10+ from a friend, also from Verizon, which does see and use my sim right and which also has that same message from the same app. But works well.
Now, I don't really have the option to return this phone, since it was shipped outside the US, and shipping back would cost me half as much as what the phone cost. So I'm on my own.
At least I'm resourceful, but not that knowledgeable so that's why I come here for help.
The phone diagnostics, for the network, says in a status line "Radio off". and no info on the network. and if I try to manually select a network on connection settings, I immediately get an error. This happens wether I'm using my local sim, the old deactivated Verizon sim from my friend, and no sim... since the phone should be abe by law to make emergency calls, and it should be able to see visible networks even if not to join them, it's my guess that rather than locked, it has the radio turned off, which in some web pages says can sometimes happen "for various reasons".
My problem is, as far as I know, I have no way to turn the radio off and on again to see if that boots it up. Since this VZW Pie from has no service codes available via dialer. Not even the most basic *#06# service menu.
I see there's supposedly a way to flash the firmware back to Nougat, and root that from, on This thread. I'm guessing if I can make that work (I hope it works) I can access the service menus somehow, with it being an older rom, and having root I can probably use "Phone INFO" to get to them and try to reset the radio.
But before I do all that, and since my firmware downloads, to update to a new firmware via odin (given the warning on the root page to not use a v8 bootloader that was updated from v7 to v8 via OTA but rather something with v8 flashed directly via Odin, to avoid a possible brick). and to install the rooteable nougat will take me days to download at my speeds, I take this time to ask for help on wether there's ANY way to check and flip the radio without having to go to Nougat and root (I think I can even be happy without root on Pie for a short while.)
Ok, I'm starting to think the power connector board got damaged or the connector partially disconnected during the shipping or something.
I've installed first a N950U1 xaa rom, to make sure the v8 was installed via odin and not OTA. Then loaded a combination from and rooted as per the root post shared in the first message. This one can use service codes with the factory time (I've not installed a normal rooted nougat rom yet, as I want to do tests beforehand and try to make the radio work).
Inside *#0011# My IMEI shows as passing, but I get an ASM MIPI DEVICE FAIL:
ASM MIPI DEVICE FAIL
DEVICE MOD=0x217 , PID=0x081
Non-Fatal MIPI DEVICE FAIL
DEVICE MOD=0x217 , PID=0x081
ASDiv : NOT SUPPORTED

I tried running the Samsung Mipi Repair Tool, it detects the info, I hit repair, says it's repaired and that it'll open a menu, which does NOT open. Yet, if I open a menu with *#27663368378# and then rebuild NV with: 2. Ue Setting Info-->1.Setting-->2.System-->3.nv rebuid-->3.all, and then turn the phone off (Factory doesn't seem to have reboot) and on, still the same MIPI issue.
So I'm guessing either the board around the charge port got damaged somehow during the trip (my friend tested the phone before shipping it to me from the US), or the connector for it got loose. Anyway, I'm worried I'll have to open the phone myself (I haven't found a trustworthy tech in here. Last time I took a phone to a "recommended" tech, they stole the OEM screen from my dad's J8. So, no more techs for me unless I can find one I can befriend, and trust). If the connector to the board is not lose (I'll reseat it) I'll have to look for a new board, either abroad or here, probably not oem and with a lousier usb-c port, and swap the boards... sigh.
Anyhow since this will take time, if anyone knows of any other program or procedure I can use to test things, please let me know. I will keep the factory rom on the phone, either as the sole one or in a rom slot in safestrap, so that I can keep doing tests.
I appreciate any hints or help anybody could provide.
