GPS issues - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I saw a thread a couple months ago about people having issues with GPS. I am still having the typical "GPS SIGNAL LOST" error practically every time I use Google maps. I understand it is possibly a software bug, but has anyone used a different navigation app or solved this issue. Also is using a custom rom going to have any help with as I am at 4.3 rooted stock as of now.

Please don't bump. I know it's allowed but nobody likes this.
Regarding your problem: I do read the cm official thread and it seems that the GPS lock is good for most of the users.
Did you do a clean install with system wipe? You should probably try that.

gps.conf might not be optimized for your country.
Could this be a solution?

Calibration compass?

Anyone having issues with the compass uncalibrating after a reboot is this a known issue?

Me too. Either of you guys rooted? I used the initial method, using MI1... I don't remember it happening before. I'm downloading MI9 now to see if it was fixed.
Also, how is your GPS navigation? Mine's just awful. Jumping around all over the place. There's a couple of threads for that already, and I don't want to hijack the thead. Just wondering if the two could be related?
I'm rooted mi1 --> mi9 rdlvega

Ok. MI9 fixed my GPS issues. Night and day. Google navigation was almost unusable. Always jumping to different streets, slow refresh rate, etc. My compass performance is also MUCH better. But still has a few issues. I'm using the smart compass app from the store. Upon reboot, it typically measures magnetic field strength at ~230uT (red text). At this point the reading is just garbage. Jumps all over the place. After a few minutes/seconds (might just be motion recalibrating compass), the reading jumps back down to ~40 uT (green text). At this point, it's actually usable, although sometimes off by as much as 20-30 degrees.
You guys using s view covers?

Nope. Bare Nekid!

I thought it was just mine. Compass/accelerometer is a bit jumpy too. I notice it most in Sky Map+.
I had same issue naked with field compass pro but I read on another thread that it was specifically cause of s view cover.

Kept telling me to recalibrate but it would not calibrate no matter how many figure 8s I made. Lol

The Compass issues have nothing to do with S-Cover. I had them, too, when I first bought the phone. There were reports of this problem with the S4, too, IIRC. You have to calibrate your sensors using a program like GPS Status. It's a sightly more involved process than just doing the figure 8 thing -- but not much.
I'll give it a try now.

I cannot turn off available Wi-Fi networks notification after 4.3 update.

I have unchecked the Wi-Fi network notification and notify me in the advanced menu, but I continue to receive the annoying notifications. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas on how to make it go away for good?

Me too. Annoying as f*^k! Can't help with a fix but here's to hoping a dev here can.
What's strange is that one of my co-workers has the same phone with the same software version isn't experiencing the issue. At least not that he has noticed.

I have the same problem on Viper one

I am on stock unrooted.

Same issue, annoying, but I got used to it.
I have gotten used to it as well and actually don't mind it at all now. It's like a reminder that I forgot to toggle my wifi to off when I left the house.

Root doesn't mess up any thing itself. Especially gps. It just means you have access to the heart of the system. If you have access to the system and mod anything, you have the potential to mess something up!
If you just got a replacement phone, chances are you can't currently gain root. The latest kit Kat release is locked out. If your baseband ends with NB4, MJ5, or MI9 you can root. Just don't uninstall, or delete anything unless you know what you're doing and you'll be fine.
I don't think they ship replacements with KK. Right now it is OTA only.

Mines on mj5..so I guess it was just a bad GPS antenna on the other phone..
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app
There were many reports of devices with software pre KK (NC2) That had GPS issues. It was completely software related. Custom ROMs and KK fixed that issue. There were a few instances it was not fixed though.
Root will not be a problem for GPS.

Ok glad to hear..time to get to rooting..

Wi-Fi won't stop turning on after root. Any ideas?

I updated to the first ota of kitkat when it went live and really didn't like it, so I downgraded to the first firmware, then accepted ota til I was back to 3.05.651.6, and now my Wi-Fi won't stay turned off no matter what settings I have chosen, and it won't respond to BatteryGuru like it used to before the whole mess.
Anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing it or how to fix it?

Any ideas at all? It's the only thing messing with me now. Everything else seems good at the moment.
