USB to Power Outlet adapter?

Where can I buy more of the little adapter that you plug the USB cable in to, then plug the adapter into to your wall power outlet?
I'm planning on coupling it with this cable: monoprice!com/products/product.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=5459&seq=1&format=2
My Incredible charges MUCH faster when plugged in to a power outlet than it does when plugged in to USB.

I just bought two off of Ebay that I will be trying out. I will let you know if they work which ones they are. I do know that the one from Monoprice.com doesn't work well so I would avoid that one.

"PLO" brand "Powerbug" - meant for GPS devices but they work perfect with the incredible. 5v, 1A, 5watt (same as stock HTC charger). I got two at $8 each so not bad. They are nice looking compared to the generic Monoprice usb charger.
EDIT ** Don't think these have as much power as the stock charger. Spare parts states "Charging (USB)" when using these, so it's like being plugged up to a computer. Still a good deal at $8

The usb to wall plugs from monoprice are no good. I ordered several before I knew better. None of them worked properly...or for Any longer than 20 minutes.

Have you actually got it and tried it and it works? I did a search on Best Buy's website and they have them but they're $27! If yours works, I'll snag a few off of ebay before people realize how useful they are and jack the price up.

It sure does, however, if you take a look at the picture, its simply a USB slot that the mini-usb cable plugs into, which means that any USB cable could work as the OP asked about. I'd say this would work well. However, I grabbed http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/powerduouniversal and it works great and I can just move my cable from my car to my house and have power everywhere.

don't buy aftermarket USB A/C adapters unless it's just for an overnight charge. You can't use the screen when using an aftermarket adapter. It's quite annoying. every single touch screen phone I have had has this problem.

Yes, but I have a variety of micro usb cables already. Take mini usb cable, throw in trash, use your own micro usb cables.

Yes I bought two and both of them work fine. Not sure if they charge as fast or not as the STOCK charger, but they are rated the exact same. The only thing I don't like about them is they have a blue light around the USB port. I found those at $8 each which is a lot better than paying $30 each somewhere else. I found these in another thread and the person was finding them even cheaper at some discount store I had never heard of. I'll leave one at work, one out in the garage or somewhere. The HTC charger will stay in the bedroom.

That's not true. While the monoprice wall charger DID have a screen issue, the screen works perfectly fine with these chargers. And I used all kinds of chargers with my previous HTC Touch and never had a screen issue.

I have several aftermarket USB AC heads that work just fine with the Incredible. All of them purchased some time ago.

I've been using my old iphone power blocks without any problems, though its only been a couple days if charging.
Depending on the price, you may be able to snag some fairly cheap with all of the companies that make cheap iphone/ipod accessories. Unfortunately I have enough power blocks so I don't have a need to buy/test any others.
I would be curious about other peoples experiences though.

I have some Ipod AC adapters as well. I was thinking they'd be safe to use since lower amp for the Incredible... but what of the reverse? Can you use the Incredible AC wall block safely on other devices? It's 1A instead of the .5A for Iphone/Ipod.

I used this on my Palm Pre. It charges my Epic 4g, and I tried it out on the Nook Color this AM.
It worked just fine.

There's qutie a number of cigarette lighter adapters available that offer a standard USB port. You'd supply your own cable. Here's an example:

No, AFAIK, none of these will charge as fast as the standard NC charger. For that, you'd need to go thru the hassle of getting an inverter.

Monoprice has cigarette lighter to female usb chargers for $1.16 that you can use your usb cable with.

well I bought 1 from Wally World and it has a dual USB output abd says it is .5v and 1.5amp but when I plug in my NC it doesnt say charging
does the sprint charger?

Yes, the Sprint charger says 'charging' As the others stated, it's not fast, but it works just fine...

it isnt more of a hassle, I have 4 inverters, but they all have fans and make noise I wanted to use a NO noise charger thats all

Larger, heavier, more cords, much more expensive (when compared to a $1 cig-to-usb)...

Just has to be able to push out the current needed. Otherwise it may not charge, or it will charge very slowly.

The Scosche reVIVE II Dual USB Car Charger for iPad has 2.1 and 1.0 amp usb outlets, I use this for plugging in my evo and nc. It definitely charges them both even while having all the wireless radios going and tethering with gps and both screens full bright.

Same issue here, I have a road-trip coming up this summer and I'd love to load up my NC with music and dash-mount it but it'll be a 14-20 hour drive (depending on the number of whiz breaks the wife and kids need) and I don't think I could push the battery quite that long and the inverter when wired to the radio creates quite a buzzing.

Are you using the Nooks specific cable on the 2.1A connection? I too am going on a trip soon, and would love a car charger that can actually CHARGE the nook while using it..

It definitely charges both. Like I said in my previous post, I usually have both my Evo runniong and the Nook full bright display on for 50 minute commute, using TetherGPS, wifi hotspot, torque and bluetooth, google navigation pulling satellite imagery, and playing mp3s. Granted, it is slower to charge than without all that stuff running but my previous car charger would lose charge with my evo running just gps and no wifi hotspot previously.
I am using stock blackberry usb cables that I ordered from Amazon as well for $1.25 for a pair (google 'B001UC9NOQ', can't post links yet.) These are nice, thick cables that handle the charger great. I leave them plugged in inside the truck at all times. I have not used that Scosche wall charger, I use the stock chargers for travel that remain in my backpack, and I have other usb cables I use to charge at home. I would imagine it works just as well though.

Luckily I'm used to carrying extra USB cables around but the noise my inverter generated while charging was super annoying, went ahead and ordered this to try it out. Hoping it works for what I need, thanks for the tip

Let us know if it works for you. An Amazon reviewer just reported that the Scosche reVIVE II didn't work on their Nook Color:
The nook color needs 1.9 amps, this can't do it. Scosche claims 2.1 amps but it isn't even close. It BARELY charges the nook if the machine is sleeping, when on, the battery charge goes down even while supposedly "charging." Playing video, it's even worse. On top of that if I try to charge a regular phone it puts out too much amperage on the 1 amp side and overheats the phone. Save your money, look elsewhere.

However, the reviewer may not know what they're talking about. A charger cannot put out "too much amperage." Too much voltage perhaps, but not too much amperage (current). A device draws only the current it needs.

An iPad needs an amperage around 2 A also. I got the Belkin Charge 2.1 made for the ipod/ipad and it DOES charge the nook color. It has a 12V plug with one USB outlet at 2.1A. I used the cable from the nook color obviously...

See, part of my worry is not the current output, but if the nook can actually communicate with these chargers and get a full 1.9A draw, instead of the detault 500mA over non B&N chargers...

I bought the same Belkin iPad charger from Best Buy. Rated at 2.1A. I used it with the B & N USB cable that came with my Nook Color. I used the 'Battery Monitor' software mentioned earlier here or on another post to compare charge current readings against the stock B&N wall charger/cable. The Belkin was charging right at 500 mA (NC was using ~450 mA, software showing +36 mA current). So somewhere the B & N cable & charger must have a unique way of determining that it is a B&N charger / cable and to allow the full 2.1A charge. I used the Belkin 12V charger on my TomTom and it allowed just over 1A charge, so I know the Belkin iPad charger is fine.
Yes, it does charge the Nook Color, if you are at 800 Mhz and minimum brightness running non-intensive applications--and it barely charges at that ~50 mA. It does turn the charge indicator on the B&N cable orange, and the status indicates battery charge on the screen.

can anybody confirm working portable power supplies?

I can confirm the iSound Power Max (18,000 mah) battery does not work.
Zagg Sparq 2.0 (6,000 mah) works if you're not using the optimized port, and the Solio Bolt solar charger (2,200 mah) works as well.

Looking for alternatives too as my 6600mah Lenmar I've been using for my phone is a no go even though it has a 2.1amp. charges my kids ipad no problem.

The Samsung port on my Anker 10000mah unit works fine

Just be aware that it isn't always the portable charger that doesn't work but it could be the cable. Based on the few threads already discussing which aftermarket chargers and car chargers work, you can see a pretty strange pattern of some cables working with a charging unit while others don't.
Just an example, I was testing my 2A Griffin Car Charger last night and it didn't work with the stock cable (Cable that came with the N7). But once I tried it with the cable that came with my Portable Charger, it worked.

My New Trent IMP1000 works with the cable that came with it (retractable with interchangeable micro/mini tips) but not with other cables. That cable also works with several other chargers where other cables don't.

I have a New Trent IMP500 and an Energizer PowertoGo. Both will only work if I use the cables and tips that were supplied with the power source. If the screen is on it says charging but the battery level seems to stay the same; if the the screen is off it charged 3% (from 83% to 86%) in 10 minutes - using the New Trent. I have not tested the Energizer yet.

The ZaggSparq is a piece of crap - it suffers from really bad battery drain. Unless you charge it weekly, it'll almost always be empty by the time you need it. I fell for the first generation, which was even worse. Then when they wouldn't replace it, I made the mistake of getting the new version - which STILL has the draining problem.
Get something better - like an Anker.

I picked up the New Trent 12000mah 2a portable power supply.

It comes with 2 cables:
-a standard USB to Micro USB (or whatever they call them that come with 99% of devices including the N7)
-what they call a Galaxy Adapter which is nothing more than a 2-3 inch USB extension that you can plug any USB cable in to including an iPad cable.
When i plugged the stock N7 cable in to the power supply (2a outlet) it didn't show as charging.
When i plugged in the standard USB cable that came with the power supply, again it didn't show as charging.
When i plugged in the stock N7 cable to the "galaxy adapter" and then in to the power supply, it did show as charging. Strange that the adapter made a difference but whatever at least it works.
When i plugged in another cable with multiple tips that came with my other Anker Portable charger, that worked too. No adapter required this time.
I did a test and confirmed that with the combinations that work, it is charging at the same rate as the stock wall charger.

The Anker 8000mAh I have charges the Nexus 7 at 2A. You have to use the Anker cable though.

New trent came in before anyone else, mine has been working for a good 3 years.

I like my Sparq a lot. Had it maybe 4 months. Got it on the recommendation of several friends who have all loved theirs. And frequently they are only 50 bucks.
The only issue I have is as stated in the first post, it doesn't work in the 2.1a port. But I haven't found any of the 2.1a chargers I've tried work.

Charger Behaviour for Nexus 7 on Griffin Dual USB PowerJolt

I have this Griffin Dual USB PowerJolt Car Charger and its been working perfectly on all my devices, Playbook, Blackberry 9900, Samsung Galaxy S3, iPhone 3G, iPad 2 and many others but for some reason, this charger just don't want to work with my Nexus 7. I don't know why its so picky and wondering if you guys could help me identify the problem and preferably with a good working solution.
I tried opening it up and follow the advice from http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-m...m_ciu_pdp_images_0?ie=UTF8&index=0&isremote=0. Both pins are already been soldered together but the Nexus still isn't charging!!
This makes me wonder where's the USB standard? How are some device / chargers so picky? What did the manufacturers do to prevent charging on other devices or charging through a non compatible charger?

Thanks a lot. I did read up all the posting regarding the USB charging issue on the N7 but I still can't find the answers. I read about people having the Griffin PowerJolt and not able to charge their device.
After downloading the Battery Monitor Widget and plugging to my Griffin PowerJolt (short D+, D-), the device is charging (estimate: 384mA) but still not showing as charging. It shows Discharging and Unplugged. I don't think its the USB cable since the cable works on my PC.
So what causes this issue?

It doesn't matter why, just that your Griffin does not do a good job of charging. If you want more either buy oem or any charger designed to work with Samsung, those devices should work better.

I guess I still blame on the N7 for being so "picky" since the Griffin USB charger charges ALL devices, including iPad, Playbook, Samsung S3, iPhone and Blackberry but just not N7.

Yep, the Nexus 7 is picky. No question about it. But your chargert *does* charge your Nexus 7, the Nexus just doesn't indicate it's charging.
Personally, I bought two KMASHI chargers from Amazon. It's a 5V 2A charger and it works great. Charges at greater than 1Ah and the N7 indicates it's charging. Won't charge an iPad but it works for me. The one I bought is http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008XQYH1G but it shows as unavailable now. I suspect the other KMASHI chargers will work the same, though.

It charges it but its slow. Being rated at 1A, its can only charge at 300mA+ so its rather disappointing plus the charging isn't consistent. Sometimes when I plug in, it will charge, sometimes not so its another disappointment. But I guess I quickly adapt it and don't bother too much now.
I can still use my in car Head Unit with a build in USB port. At least I am getting 400mA+ and it shows as charging so I am ok

Ive been recommending this Sprint 2A dual usb charger to everyone. Its a OEM charger so you can expect a high quality product that works as it should and it puts out the required juice to rapidly charge the N7. It also has the added benefit of doubling as a wall charger. Hey All.. I looked forever to find a solution. The Targus 2A car charger has a small (3") adapter cable that comes with it purportedly for Galaxy Tab. That little cable with the data wires shorted on the device end allows the N7 to be charged from ANY 2A car charger. I'm using the adapter with a Scosche dual 2.1 Amp Car Charger

Edit: I just built a usb cable with the data wires shorted on the Nexus end (cut, strip, short micro usb end green and white, remake connections red to red and black to black, insulate splices individually, wrap all in electrical tape or heat shrink for strength and beauty) and it works with all chargers. Took about 20 minutes.

I cannot post the link, but if you search "Juiced Systems 4.2 AMP" in ebay it's the first item under "Best match" and it's $19.99
Has anyone tried these chargers that claim 2.1A per USB port? Or does anyone know of any similar car chargers that charge 2 devices @ 2.1A?
I just want to buy the best charger that isn't going to blow up my phone, and a dual charger would be excellent if possible.

It sounds like with that particular device, in order to get an Android phone to charge at an AC rate is to either modify the charger (through soldering) to short out the data pins or use a USB charge-only cable (DIY modification of an existing cable or purchased one). The Android phone should then see the charger as AC instead of USB for, hopefully, full and faster rate of charge.

I know you are looking for dual port, each with 2.1A - but I wouldn't hold my breath this one will output dual 2.1A without throttling down one of the ports. Its impossible to fit quality circuit in a small cigarette lighter package where due to excess heat the efficiency of your converter will decrease. And even if they manage to produce 4.2A you will either blow your fuse or melt your charger. Just think about it, you won't have any air circulation to even cool it down.
I only trust dual port chargers with 2.1A/1A rating. I reviewed one before - HERE from iSmooth which does work! Also, to my surprise, iSmooth charger was actually made for iPad/iPhone but it WORKS perfectly with Note 2. I can't voucher for other Apple converters, and as a matter of fact I have another one with a separate Apple and Android ports and Note 2 doesn't charge from Apple port. But the one from iSmooth I'm using right now works perfectly for Note 2 and also looks awesome in the car with a blue glow light
