Phone not recognized by Windows on two PCs - Sony Xperia T, TL, TX, V

Hi,
Let's start with the beginning: I've messed a bit with the rooted phone: deleted some seemingly useless stuff, with as a result the inability to install apps from the Play Store and even to check the storage status, so I did a hard reset but it didn't really fix it. Seems like I need a new ROM, which I wanted all the time (a custom one as we're talking)
So I've allowed Android to unlock bootloader on my Xperia T with Jellybean 4.1.2 and apparantly it rooted fine again (these instructions worked fine) and now there is the SuperUser app installed since it was forced in some way.
Now I want to follow these instructions, but step 13 brings bad luck!
When I connect the phone to the pc with either the volume up or down key, Windows says the USB Device malfunctioned the last time it was used and might not be recognized, or it doesn't react at all, except for the connection sounds. Going to the next steps doesn't bring relief...
But I can acces the phone perfectly when it's on and connected, when it's off it shows "D:\" in the Device Manager in Windows.
So I tried to update the driver manually, but when I go there it says there is no compatible installation file (while still following the instructions above)
I use Windows 8.1 on both PCs.
Please help? :/

Unroot possible with no USB Connection?

Is it possible to unroot your phone without your usb connection working anymore? I plug my phone into my computer which is running Windows XP Media Center edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3 and it says USB Device not recognized. I tried to manually update the driver in the device manager but it tells me that the specified location does not contain information about your hardware and I verified that they are the drivers for my hero. I even tried a new cable to eliminate that as a problem but I still have the same issues. To give it one last try I plugged it into my laptop Running Windows Vista and also came up with usb device not recognized. I would like to return my phone to Sprint so I can get the usb connection problem fixed but I need to unroot the phone first. PLEASE HELP! - Josh

you can "re-flash" the stock .img files from Better Terminal. I lucked out on my last phone that went completely dead for no reason I knew of. The techs couldn't revive my rooted phone, so I got a replacement.
Since then, I do a "watered down" root - @forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
Without having to wipe everything clean and start from scratch- Flashing the stock and removing root works for me through this:
I copied unrevoked and RA1.6.2 to my sdcard. Use step 7 & 8 (sh /sdcard/unrevoked and flash the RA recovery img). After reboot, I make a nand backup.
For me anyway- by doing none of the rest, it allows me to remove the apps I want to remove and allows me to reflash the stock 2.1 recovery image. I can then update to .6 if necessary to seal it up...flashing the recovery image can be done from the phone using Better Terminal as well.
The only reason I prefer it this way is, I don't want to use a custom ROM and I only want to pull some of the unecessary (for me) apps out. I'll back it up and if need be, I am 1 step closer to "unrooting" it.
I know, I know...but to each his own...I've taken a rooted phone in (no custom ROM) with a speaker issue- no hassles. I've taken a rooted phone in for dust under the screen, way back when- and had to argue the point that ROMS and rooting had nothing to do with a defect in manufacturing that caused the dust under the screen (was able to get a replacement just slightly after my 30 days was up).... So when this last one was completely dead - I thought for sure it was going to cost me.
Long Lost Thank You!
I tried that and it totally worked. I appreciate the detailed feedback. I just realized I never commented back! Now I have an EVO and I just put MIUI on it, can't wait to try it out. Thanks again!

Can't connect to PC via USB

Help!
My optimus 2x is not detected when I plug it to my laptop via USB.
Turn on mass storage" in the phone does not appear, it's like I'm just plugging in into a wall charger.
It could connect just a few days before, same laptop, same drivers (LG mobile united drivers)
Have tried it with 3 different laptops, still can't connect (drivers are installed)
A google search reveals other people having the problem as well and unable to solve it.
Can't return it yet for warranty because superuser app is still there.
Originally, I rooted it using superoneclick. Can't unroot it in superoneclick since not detected in USB.
So i unrooted it using z4root (without a pc). It's now unrooted, however superuser app is still in the app drawer.
Any advice?
Hi, I have the same problem and I posted question here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1274379
Maybe some answers can help You but in my case nothing helped until one day it suddenly started to work again.
Well it was working both on my home and business laptop until few days ago when it stopped. I can+t make it to work again, and I've tried last advice there to remove battery for about 20 min.
I think problem is in the phone, because one day when it started ti work again on my business laptop it was also working on my home laptop without any action taken.
Please help!
P.S. I can hope that when GB will be available through OTA (I can't count on update tools because my phone is not detected), it will solve the problem
Thanks. Will try those suggestions. Not sure if i can update to gingerbread OTA. Theres no OTA update in my menu.
Hi,
I have the same problem as well. Nothing shows up in Device Manager, no notification when I plug in the phone. Just charging.
It was working just fine right out of the box, even before I installed any LG drivers, but it's suddenly just stopped being detected by the computer. Mass storage only or usb debugging makes no difference.
The problem is not with any of my USB ports, as other devices work just fine when plugged in (my iPod pops right up in Device Manager). I've reset the phone to factory stats, tried with other computers, downloaded the most recent drivers as well as the LG Mobile Support Tool.
I've googled extensively, only to find that a lot of other people have the same problem, but no working solutions.
I appreciate any and all suggestions.
Same issue.
Even on cwm and i can't make software update (power + vol- = reboot loop).
So i use adb tcpip...
I think i should try a stock/modaco before send it to after sales service
Thanks michoux.
Can you point me to instructions on flashing via adb tcpip?
edit:
Just did some googling. it seems device needs to be rooted for adb via tcp ip to work right?
Unless there's a way to root without pc then I can't do anything. (z4root doesn't work).
Damn, first mistake i did was to unroot.
do you already have installed the driver?? if already install remove it first and then reinstall the driver
check out this link maybe can help

Computer doesn't detect P990 through USB

Ok guys I'm a noob around here. I've had my P990 for about 7 months and I'm ready to throw it against the wall:crying: I've been searching for info on this type of fault and I read that it happens pretty often. I really didn't have the need to plug my phone to my computer, so I never did, until about two days ago I decided I was bored with my stock phone and decided to install the latest version of android, so I downloaded the LG IV suite. Installed it, I'm following the directions, connect my phone and bam, NOTHING I kept getting an error on the LG suite, can't find phone, check connection and try again. At this time I also notices that my phone was charging through the USB cable. So my basic troubleshooting techniques kicked in, and performed the basic steps:
-Made sure Mass storage only box is checked
-Switched USB cable
-Re-installed the driver
-Downloaded the latest driver from LG website
-Downloaded drivers recommended by XDA
-Tried two other computers with two different OS
So none of this worked:crying:
After monkeying around for a couple of hours with my phone, I read somewhere on this forum to take out the battery, connect to USB cable to your computer, hold down the power and volume down buttons at the same time, this would put my phone in some mode, I don't know what that mode is, but decided to do it. My phone powers up, then I see the green android little man with a white box and an arrow coming out of the box. Ok, finish doing it's thing and then it reboots. I go into my phone and find that everything has been erased and the phone was back to it's original state when I received it over the mail.
Since my phone is back to stock, I decided to go the root road. Downloaded SuperOneClick, installed it connect my phone via USB and I'm back to step one. I get nothing!!! So then I decide to go the root flash road. So I downloaded the z4root adk file and put in the flash, pop the flash in my phone and nothing. Can't see my flash card on my phone (never used an SD card on my phone and decided to buy one for this instance). Kept reading on-line and found that I need a file manager application, so I installed Linda Manager on phone, opened the z4root adk file and installed on my phone. So now I'm getting very excited and I'm giggling like a school girl because I'm starting to see light at the end of the tunnel. So I run the z4root application and go with permanent selection, the application start the root, then BAMMMMMMM. The application just stops and my phone takes me to my home page. I decide to restart the z4root application and I can't get the app to run. I re-booted my phone, restarted the app, and keep getting stuck. The app stops and I can't never successfully get a root. I'm out of ideas, I've going at it with my phone for two day and reading on the net.
The two thing I want to accomplish is to be able to use my phone via the USB cable and to root my phone. Can you guys point me in the right direction. At this point I'm willing to try anything on my phone since everything got erased.
by the way here's is what stock I'm running on my phone:
Android version: 2.2.2
Baseband version: 1035.21_20110725
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Built number: FRG83G
LGE version: LGP990-V10d
My computer is running Windows Vista, I also tried a Window 7 and a Windows XP computer and still nothing for the USB.
I would appreciate any help guys, throw me a bone over here:laugh:
Same thing happened to my friend. No USB detection (the phone was charging through usb but nothing showed up on the pc). He tried everything then he called me (I have o2x too) , i tried everything you did too. His pc detected my o2x , but when he connected his (on the same cable) ... nothing .
Finally he remembered the phone had warranty and took it to tech suppport. First they reflashed it , but when he tried it home ... nothing . He took it to support again , they kept it for about 10 days and told him they had to change the motherboard.
Phone works now.
He was on stock froyo too , Vodafone Romania version.

Sorry for the bump, but I got some update.
when dialing the above mentioned 1809#*990# in the Port menu, switching from default AP USB to AP/CP UART gave me life signs.
After switching to AP UART I linked the Unknown device driver to lgusbdiag.inf located in C:/ProgramFiles(x86)/LG United Mobile Driver.
Suddenly it started installing it and is now recognized as: LGE Platform Android USB Device.
Once disconnected I lose USB again, I'm able to recreate the first steps though even in default AP USB mode by now.
The only thing I need USB for is for flashing a custom recovery but the only thing I don't have is ADB somehow : / Clockwork telling me: device not found.
Any help on this one?

I get the exact same symptom, as soon as I change from AP USB to AP/CP UART, my battery icon on my phone goes to charging, without the being plugged in
Well I'm pretty tired of monkeying around with this phone, but I really like phone and really don't want to change model. So I decided to order a brand new one:laugh:
I should be getting it within the next two week, hopefully that doesn't give me the same problem
I'll keep you guys updated.
Help??
A very good friend of us noobs toying with our O2x's are Paul O'Brien.
I could not get any other flashing tool to root my O2X other than his. Here is link to his guide:
modaco.com/topic/335474-25-mar-nvflash-stock-rom-release-v10b-dated-1300166062-15032011/#entry1645587
He also has the tool to completely restore your O2X back to factory standards, and in the O2X forum here you will find all the different stock roms, you need to get your phone back to these factory standards and restore your warranty.
After you flashed your phone and get ready to try all the marvellous ROMs, waiting on the other side, I can only recommend to purchase the PRO version of Clock Work Mod, it really brings out the fun in rooting your phone.
Seeing your description of your troubles, I think you have softwareproblems, more than hardware problems, so a complete flash and maybe restore, will likely solve many if not all of your problems.
Best regards
Mike
And dont forget to show your support to the developers, they do a marvellous job for us!!!
Thanks mike,
I followed the link you provided and did a lot of reading. So decided to try that method. No luck with that, my computer doesn't detect APX mode while holding down both volume keys. I tried it like 10 times every time holding the keys at different intervals. I even tried it on my wife's laptop running windows 7, didn't work either.
I did find a lot of good info on the link you posted.
Thanks, just waiting on my new O2x to come in the mail.
Possible solution
Some days ago, I also had a problem connecting my LG Optimus 2X to my PC (Windows 7).
I solved my problem using this instructions I found in the G2X forum, by conspirator_boff user (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15899923&postcount=10)
Similar issue. This worked for me on Win 7.
Uninstall the LG Drivers and reinstall the G2x 2.2 package from LG.COM /us/support/mc-support/mobile-phone-support.jsp (I can't post links)
Plug the phone in and go to Device Manager. There should be a USB Composite Device that is not properly installed. Right click it and select Update Driver Software.
Select 'Browse my computer', then 'Let me pick'. Choose have disk, and browse to where the LG Drivers are installed. Likely C:\Program Files\LG Electronics\LG United Mobile Driver\ and select lgbus9x.inf.
Then pick LGE Android Platform Composite USB Device from the list of drivers. Should be the top option. Hit next.
I let it sit for a minute while the drivers installed. Some things registered in device manager right away, the LGE USB Modem for one. But, the drives didn't. Unplugged the phone, plugged it back in, and the drives popped up under Portable Devices.

I think it's an issue from the newest LG Drivers because when I first tried to connect it a year ago I had no problems.
Hope it helps.

Good luck and I hope your new phone will behave properly.
Remember Paul also has tools for bringing your phone back to factory standards, so you keep your warranty.:good:
Enough said, good luck and remember our O2X is probably one of the easiest phones to try out different ROMs at and I have never enjoyed this little gadget as much as after I flashed it!!:

Fixed
Sorry guys for the late update.
I received my new P990 about two weeks ago. As soon I pluged the phone into my computer it started installing the drivers and I was able to use my phone via the USB cable. Another thing I noticed, on this new phone when I pluged the USB cable, I noticed it went in nice and firm, on my old phone the cable seemed to be a little loose. Anyway it was definately a hardware issue with my phone. I'm pretty happy with 2x.

[Q] O2X bricked after restoring from nandroid backup? [Linux-related]

Hi there, honored experts!
Today I got my precious Optimus Speed bricked, after I successfully restored a recent nandroid backup.
I've been happily running paranoid android for the last months, and often updated the phone with the help of goo.im manager. Today I did a full factory-reset after the CWM upgrade-process, to get rid of the old "disappearing keyboard"-bug. I backed up all my apps and data with superbackup and titanium-backup, and even created an online nandroid-backup (freshly updated nandroid-scripts and patch for my device).
After the reset I had issues to restore everything, since ti-backup often got stuck in batch-restore-processes. Because I couldn't stop the stuck process, it required me to soft-reboot the device a few times. And in the end, it failed to boot.
So I went into CWM, and restored my nandroid-backup. This went fine, and no errors were reported. But after soft-rebooting it, it only showed the LG-Logo-Screen, and nothing else happened. So I tried to get back into CWM - with no luck .
I've tried every possible key-combination I could find, and the only mode I can bring my device into is "S/W Upgrade". In this mode it is recognized by my laptop (running Linux), but rustys recovery fails, because nvflash reports:
Code:
sh ./flash-recovery-ext.sh
Nvflash started
USB device not found
even though lsusb shows:
Code:
# lsusb
Bus 001 Device 017: ID 1004:6000 LG Electronics, Inc. KU330/KU990/VX4400/VX6000
I'm fresh out of ideas - maybe one of you can help me out? Otherwise the only thing I could try now is to turn it back in where I bought it.
I'm no expert at these matters, but I can tell you from my experience because I bricked mine P990 two times and was able to bring it back to life.
In both instances I used Smartflash, found V30a ICS ROM for it and flashed it over it, and it came back to life.
But when you do this, you will have ICS bootloader and you won't be able to install PA or CM since they work on the old bootloader.
Or you can flash it to the stock Gingerbread ROM https://hotfile.com/dl/168874678/8ea13eb/NVFlash_LGP990_V20Q_EuroOpen.7z.html
And I would recommend reinstalling nv flash drivers before, just in case the error is on your computer. http://www.mediafire.com/?cdgwwgkdozht8pw
Also, try All in one kit, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020737 maybe it will help you. I repaired my bricked phone with it a lot of times. Its very easy to use as everything is explained there.
Jasper_bin
this device is 99% unbrickable
just go ahead with the AIOT by SPYROSK (this guy is a silent killer with amazing skills)....link in my signature
it works like a magic....real magic if you read the opening post and do it properly
Thanks
Hi Obersoldat,
I'm currently on the new BL - PA has a spin for the old, and one for the new BL. Is smartflash a windows-binary? Since I currently have no access to a windows-machine :-/.
Hi Make1 and Sreeprajay,
thanks for your recommendation. I'll also hit that thanks button if it helps me solve this, but first I've got two questions:
1st: As said above, I currently have no access to a windows-machine. Therefore I wanted to try working this out with nvflash on Linux. AFAIK this should be possible, even though there would be no nice menu-system. The question is if there's a difference due to the special drivers on windows which are mentioned everywhere? I ask that, because I've successfully rooted my buddies TP-Tablet on Linux with adb, and without any special drivers (which were said to be mandatory on windows).
2nd: What am I aiming for in Spyrosks AIOT? Instantly I'd think option 2B (Change Recovery with NVFlash) might help me. As in ProgMaqs Full-Brick-Repair. Then I'd look into the batch-Scripts, and simply manually execute the needed Steps.
Ok, so I dug up my old windows-tower from the attic, soldered a power-cord that I was missing, and fired it up. Took me more than 2 hours - thats what I meant with "no access to a windows-machine".
I ran Spyrosks AIOT, but no luck . The only possible ways to save this phone, are IMHO the nvflash based methods. But nvflash on windows reports the same error: "USB device not found".
Yes - I installed the driver out of the AOIT - but it seems that it cannot be activated for my phone. I think it's not in the right state to be recognized as a device that would need that driver, so windows won't activate it.
Attached is a screenshot of how the phone appears in my Device-Manager when connected in "S/W Upgrade"-mode.
Do you still think this phone can be saved somehow? I had high hopes as I read that this phone is nearly unbrickable
Come on, please someone help me. I'm not trying to be lazy here, or have someone else do the searching/thinking for me. I just can't figure out how to solve this - propably due to a lack of experience.
I don't think this is a simple problem - but there must be a reason why that phone is said to be 99% unbrickable. I hope I'm not the other 1% in this case.
Anyone?
I would have known what to do if the pc recognized your phone when you've installed drivers because almost exact problem happened to me few days ago.
Okay, now I will suggest random things well, I'm just trying to help :/
I suppose cwm isn't working?
Then about S/W Upgrade mode, have you installed APX drivers? Because when you connect phone in S/W upgrade mode with APX drivers installed then Device manager shows no errors.
You also mentioned that you restored a backup so it means you have latest backup of your system which you wanted to use. Tell me if I'm not correct. Then full wipe of your phone will fix everything, you will just flash a new rom, do the rooting stuff again and then you can restore your backup again.
maybe its because you are on linus, try restoring a STOCK GB KDZ if you are on the old layout, if you are in the new layout use a official LG smartflash, try that on windows and use AIO Toolkit !
Hey, thanks a lot! Actually the last Tip did the Trick!
After I downloaded and installed the full LG phone suite, I was able to restore the phone with the official LG support-tool. During the installation of the PC-Suite one or two new drivers were installed, which then lead to the phone beeing correctly recognized by the Windows 7 on the PC.
So to sum that up, and clarify the questions I brought up earlier:
Can the windows Drivers do more than what the native ones on Linux?
Absolutely yes! Only the drivers which came with the PC-Suite made my PC recognize the P990, which it didn't do before. Propably even the special drivers which come with Spyrosks AIOT depend on them (correct me if thats not true).
Can I restore my bricked phone with only Spyrosks AIOT?
In my case that did not work. Even after installing the PC-Suite and its drivers (including the support-tool drivers) the nvflash based methods in spyrosks AIOT did not find my device, which was connected over USB. But LGs support-tool did, and revived the device .
Hope that helps other people in my situation. The legendary unbrickability of this thing is proven once again
Thanks to all of you (Yesyesyes - I'll hit that button right away!)

[Q] AT&T HTC One COMPLETELY wiped...

a friend of mine went out and got the HTC One, we rooted it and put on a nightly of CM 10.2 - and the phone worked relatively well, very well in fact, except the MMS/Group messaging was causing the phone to lockup and reboot. we've had a group message going on for an eternity involving a few of our friends, so many times a day this would happen.
not knowing what to do, i suggested he download a new rom, the stable or the latest nightly, and erase everything, and reinstall. somewhere in the process he erased everything - including the new rom, the phone is completely blank and in a boot loop. we can boot into fastboot or into the recovery.
and, we are Mac guys, except for an older Vista laptop i have. (to give you an idea on it's age, it has a 25gb hdd).
when we had first rooted it, i used MTP to copy the new rom over to the phone. the stock rom was still in place, the xfer went fine. but now there's no rom on the device, MTP doesn't work, the computer sees it as a 'One' but has no driver, and i'm at a bit of a loss.
i have tried to install the HTC SyncManager to get the phone to connect to my Vista machine with no luck, every time i connect Windows tries to look for a driver and it fails. somewhere in the forums i found a 'universal driver kit' which said it covered the HTC One (called it a Google Nexus Device, but recognized it at least).
however, my admittedly weak knowledge of fastboot and adb has proven not enough to get a new rom on the phone. i don't know if it's drivers or my lacking skillset, and i'd love any suggestions on taking a completely wiped HTC One with Koush's CWM on it, and getting a rom on it.
thanks.

1. Download Parallels Desktop for Mac & a copy of Windows 7 x86 (torrents available)
2. Install Android SDK to Windows C drive (exactly to C:/)
3. Download the AT&T RUU here to C:/. (The RUU is an .exe you run with the phone connected to pc in recovery to flash it.) Note: you may run into errors once or twice flashing it, but keep trying and it should eventually work.
4. Connect phone to pc and boot into recovery
5. Run the RUU you downloaded
6. After you finish the flash, reboot your phone if it doesn't automatically.
7. Your phone should now have stock AT&T running.
I hope this helps. -Mike
